"So Henry..." "Henry I'll be right back, don't go anywhere."
Henry nodded, his eyes betraying the inquisitive turn his mind had taken but not saying anything. He had some more time before he should head to the castle...plus he wanted to know what Mr. Walker was going to ask him. As Mr. Walker went in search of Ruby, Henry flagged down another waitress. May as well have a hot chocolate with cinnamon while he waited.

"What's wrong?"
Ruby started at Kitt's voice, quickly trying to compose herself, "Nothing. I'm okay. Really, I'm..." Suddenly she found herself in his arms and all her false pretenses crumbled. Words just came tumbling from her mouth, telling Kitt everything about defending Charlie, her first confrontation with Marcus and what had just occurred at his table, "And the worst part is that he's right. He might be a horrible, arrogant, slimy jerk but he's right about me. Nothing I ever do in this town is ever going to erase the things I've already done. All they're ever going to see is Ruby Lucas, the town harlot." Ruby's voice caught as she finished and she buried her face into the crook of Kitt's neck, the tears still coming hard and fast. She had not cried like this in a very long time and now it was like the dam had broken and there was nothing she could do to stop it.

I could tell what she was saying hurt her, I found my fist clenching automatically as she mentioned Marcus, I should have stormed out and defended her honor but that wouldn't accomplish much. "Nobody can erase their past Ruby. Don't listen to the Marcus what does he know you. He doesn't see what I see in you, he will never be able to see the angel that lives inside your heart. All I've ever seen in you is Ruby Lucas, the love of my life." Ok that last part just slipped out, maybe Henry was right, but I had just said it... Im an idiot. "..I ahhhh... It just..." All I could do was sigh and hold up the $10 bill "Cora's tip, she gives her regards now if youll excuse me Im going to shoot myself in the foot!"

All I've ever seen in you is Ruby Lucas, the love of my life." "..I ahhhh... It just..." "Cora's tip, she gives her regards now if youll excuse me Im going to shoot myself in the foot!"
Ruby froze, her watery eyes now wide as the tears slowed their course down her cheeks. "You...you love me?" Her voice was shaky and uncertain. The words felt foreign on her tongue. How could he love her? She wasn't anything special. Her past was checkered at best. And beside, she couldn't remember ever hearing those word directed at her before. Not even from Granny, who preferred to keep her praise and emotions to herself. So how could this man that she had gone out with once, who had just received the honor of being the first person to ever see her cry, who was now holding her so closely to him and trying to make her realize that everything would be okay...how could he love her?
But Kitt's eyes, though embarrassed, were so honest and so caring and so full of...was that love? And what she had been feeling- that unfamiliar need to be near him, that warm and bubbly feeling when she saw him, that feeling of safety and protection that she received from just being in his arms....was that love too? Did she love Kitt? But, it was crazy! Sure they knew each other for a while- as long as Ruby could remember, actually- but they went out once. Love didn't happen that fast. At least, she thought it didn't. Maybe she was wrong. "Kitt," she said softly as she placed a hand on his face, "Do you really love me?"

"Do you really love me?"
She placed her hand on my face, I could smell her perfume it was intoxicating, my eyes got caught up in her gaze and I could help but pull her into me and kiss her. Everything about Ruby seemed right like it was meant to be and if that was love then yeah I was loves bitch. How do you explain that to someone you have only been on one date with though, everyone time I ran it through my head it came off creepy and desperate and there was no way I could ever lie to Ruby. Maybe Henry was right and we are just two star crossed lovers who belonged within a fairy tale, if only it was that easy. I found myself at a lost for words and despite how hard I thought I couldn't come up with anything that seemed appropriate... unless dancing through the diner singing I Think I Love You by that Partridge kid and Tom Cruise did counts.

The kiss said everything. Ruby looked into Kitt's eyes as she finally pulled away. Her hand lingered softly against his cheek and she gently brushed her thumb across his skin. God, he had great eyes. It was almost like looking into them opened all sorts of worlds and thoughts and feelings. They were new and familiar all at the same time. As the silence fell around them, Ruby knew that he was probably waiting for some kind of reaction from her. It wasn't a moment that needed a lot of words, so she kept it simple, "I know. Me too." Whatever was going on between them wasn't something that they seemed to be able to put into words or categorize. But Ruby was okay with that. They didn't need words to know how they felt.

"I know. Me too."
Whatever we had we seemed to be willing to give it a shot. I gave Ruby a warm smile and held her hand, "I have to confess I didn't see today going like this at all. But I probably shouldn't take up all your time, you have tips to collect. Ill be waiting at the counter if you need me." I gave her one last smile before leaving and going back to sit next to Henry. "I think I do Henry..."

MICHAEL
It was finally his lunch break at the shop and Michael hadn't had time to pack his lunch today. He had slept through his alarm and was an hour late for work. Luckily for him there weren't too many cars to be seen to that morning, otherwise he'd really have been in for it. But, come lunchtime, he had no food so he had to make his way to the only diner in town and see about getting a hot meal there.
He walked in the door, nodding to a couple of people on the way to an empty booth and unfolded a menu to figure out what he wanted to eat.

Marcus finished his meal, by which time the pain in his leg had gone but his concern about Cora remained. He managed to twist his sense of guilt into blame, and then directed it at Ruby.
Sadler dropped the payment next to the plate, along with a tip. He had standards, after all. Marcus rose, whistling jovially as he exited the diner. He passed Ruby's car, lightly dragging the tip of his key along the side as he did before casually hopping in his own and driving off before anyone saw. It was a practicied gift.

"I think I do Henry..."
Henry excitedly turned away from his hot chocolate, a few small globs of whipped cream hitchhiking on the tip of his nose. "I knew it! Even if you can't remember it, something inside of you must know that you loved her before!" This was great! If true love could overcome the effects of the curse for Ruby and Mr. Walker, maybe it would work for Ms. Blanchard when Henry finally found Prince Charming. Boy did he have a lot to think about! Henry grabbed his book bag and jumped off his stool. "I gotta go Mr. Walker! But thanks!" Henry ran out the door of the diner before waiting for a reply.

Ruby gave herself a few minutes after Kitt went back front, making sure she was fully collected before going back out into the hub of the diner. She breathed a sigh of relief at Sadler's now empty table. With everything else going on, she really didn't think she could handle a third confrontation.
Ruby quickly glanced over at Kitt. The guy probably had a million other things he could be doing but he was waiting for her. Not for the first time, Ruby wondered how someone like her ended up with someone like Kitt. Okay, it was time to force her muddled mind to focus on work. She headed towards a newly filled booth who's occupant was hidden behind a menu.
"Hey Michael!" Ruby greeted when she caught sight of his face, "Can I get you something to drink?"

MICHAEL
He smiled at Ruby and gave her two fingered salute-wave. "Hey Ruby. Uh yeah, I'll have coffee, please." He liked Ruby well enough, her and her grandmother. Being neighbors, he'd helped with a little maintenance around the bed and breakfast a couple of times over the years and got to be on friendly terms with both women.

"Hey Ruby. Uh yeah, I'll have coffee, please."
Ruby smiled back, her bad mood further dissipating, "You got it." She disappeared behind the counter and returned a few minutes later with a full cup of coffee in hand. "Here ya go. So, anything exciting going on in the land of grease and spark plugs?" Ruby was well-aquainted with the goings-on at Marine's Garage. She had spent a lot of time there during her brief fling with Billy, another one of the mechanics.

MICHAEL
He poured two creams and four sugars into his coffee and stirred, then took a sip. It was perfect. They always did know how to brew a good cup of coffee there. One of these days he'll even ask Widow Lucas what brand she used so he could get some of his own. "Same old, same old. Today's a slow day though. Had more time to work on that motorcycle I'm rebuilding." He'd been working on and old Indian off and on in his own driveway, but finally got to a point where it needed to be in the shop for him to continue. Thankfully his boss didn't mind him working on it during slow hours.

"Same old, same old. Today's a slow day though. Had more time to work on that motorcycle I'm rebuilding."
"Awesome! How's it coming?" Ruby remembered seeing the motorcycle once or twice when Michael first brought it in. She didn't know anything about auto-mechanics, but even she could tell that it had needed a lot of work.
She glanced over at the counter, seeing that Kitt was still waiting for her. Maybe she should tell him that she would meet him later after her shift. ....

"It's coming along. Have to order special parts to get it running right, but she's holding together." He noticed Ruby look over at Kitt and the corner of his mouth quirked up. He didn't really keep up with the relationship circuit in town, but obviously there was something between those two. "Anyway, I'll just have the bacon burger and fries. Seems like you have other customers to wait on." He nodded in Kitt's direction, letting her know she didn't have to hover around him and make small talk if she really wanted to be elsewhere.

Ruby laughed, "That obvious huh? Thanks Michael! Burger and fries, coming right up." She put the order in at the kitchen window, making sure to note for Tony to give him extra fries for his good deed. A few more coffees had to be filled but soon enough Ruby found herself standing next to Kitt. "Hey stranger," she set a hand on his shoulder to get his attention, "You know, I think we're starting to get busy here and I think I've recovered from that mental breakdown I just had. You have to have much better things to do than sit around and watch me wait tables all day, so why don't you go get your stuff done and we can meet somewhere tonight?"

I turned as she put her hand on my shoulder,
"You know, I think we're starting to get busy here and I think I've recovered from that mental breakdown I just had. You have to have much better things to do than sit around and watch me wait tables all day, so why don't you go get your stuff done and we can meet somewhere tonight?"
"I will meet you anywhere, any night... aslong as you give me enough time to call all my other girl friends and let them know." I said with a cheesy smile. I took Ruby's hand and slowly stood up "What shall it be tonight?"

"I will meet you anywhere, any night... aslong as you give me enough time to call all my other girl friends and let them know."
"Hey, maybe they can hang out with my other boyfriends instead." Ruby teased back with a playful push to Kitt's shoulder. Wait a minute. Did he just call her his girlfriend? Did she just imply that he was her boyfriend? When did that happen? Well, they did kinda infer that they loved each other, so it did make sense. Damn it, there was that panic again...Why was she panicking? This was supposed to be a good thing! Ruby swallowed back her urge to run and instead plastered a grin on her face.
"What shall it be tonight?"
"Let's go out tonight! You know, it's karaoke night at The Rabbit Hole. We can sit back and laugh at all the drunken renditions of 'My Heart Will Go On'....It'll be fun!"

"Wow, you really want to just sit back, drink and laugh at all those people who are just trying to let off steam in the best way they know how... I like it." I said with a smirk "But alas my dear Ruby I have to leave how time flies and I have appointments to keep." I didn't think Ruby really needed to know I planned to go talk to Mr. Gold she only needed to know the out come of it. I kissed Ruby on the cheek before heading to the door turning back to her while walking out the door backwards, "Rabbit hole, 7pm, I will meet you there!"

Ruby's smile faltered as Kitt left. This freaking out business was going to have to stop. But how could she stop it if she didn't know what was causing it? She made her way to the kitchen window where Michael's burger had just appeared and prepared to bring it over to his table. She had to get a hold of herself and deal with this whole Kitt thing before she really messed things up.
A bright smile covered any of her current inner turmoil and she put the plate down on Michael's table.
"Here ya go. Bacon burger and fries. Do you need anything else?"

"Oh, you haven't heard, huh? I thought it'd be all over town by now," Ruby's smile only faltered slightly. Emotion had already gotten the best of her today, it wasn't going to again. Besides, Granny was going to be fine. "Granny actually isn't here. She had a heart attack the other night and she's still in the hospital. She'll be okay...It was just a minor one." Well, as minor as an attack on someone's heart could be. "But, she's the only one who does the baking in the morning so there's actually no cobbler today. We do have some awesome pies from the new bakery though, if you still want some dessert...."

His face fell to a look of concern at the mention of Widow Lucas's heart attack. "I'm sorry to hear that. She's a good woman, your gran. If there's anything I can do to help while she's recovering, let me know." He pops a fry into his mouth and chews, then continues, "What pies have you got today?"

*The Next Day*
Gabriella had had an incredibly bad start to her morning. She'd awoken before dawn with a splitting headache and no memory as to how she'd even ended up in bed. There were strange, fuzzy flashes that she couldn't make heads or tales of. She'd stumbled to the bathroom for some aspirin and found the reason for the gaps in her memory written in lipstick on her bathroom mirror.
Elle was back and she was not happy.
Gabriella had opted to walk to town this morning. She hoped the fresh air and exercise would help to alleviate what she'd figured was a wicked hangover. She was quite sure Elle had purposefully overdone it with the alcohol as part of her way of getting back at her. She'd have all the fun. Gabriella would pay the price.
The little bell on the door jingled like a sledgehammer against her skull as she opened the door of the diner. She rubbed her temples as she leaned against the counter. "Coffee please, Ruby. Black. And maybe something to eat."

Ruby glanced up as Gabriella ordered, half expecting to see the surprising 'new look' that she had noticed from across the bar the night before. But the woman seemed to be back to her old self again, albeit a bit worse for wear. She totally knew a hangover when she saw one. She placed a mug of coffee on the counter before quickly jotting down her own favorite day after food and handing the slip back to Tony.
"One Magic 'Which coming up. Guaranteed to combat any hangover, no matter how killer." Ruby leaned against the counter. The morning rush had already slowed so she was free to talk while they waited for the food. "Fun night?"

"One Magic 'Which coming up. Guaranteed to combat any hangover, no matter how killer."
Gabriella took a gulp of the coffee, beyond caring that it was still at the scalding temperature more suited for sipping. "Thanks, Ruby. You're a goddess." Her smile quickly turned into a wince at another stab of pain.
"Fun night?"
Gabriella answered and yet evaded the question. "There's no amount of 'fun' in the world worth this."
She eased onto a seat at the bar and wondered if perhaps she could find out exactly what kind of 'fun' Elle had gotten up to. Maybe there'd already been talk. Maybe Ruby had witnessed it. Either way, she kind of got the vibe that Ruby knew something.
"I'm not much of a drinker. I think I overdid it early into the night so truth be told, I don't remember much." Or anything, to be precise. "It's like I've lost a huge chunk of time." And that was more precise than anybody in town knew. Gabriella sipped her coffee quietly, giving Ruby an opening.

"There's no amount of 'fun' in the world worth this."
Ruby snatched a bottle of aspirin she had stashed below the counter after a particularly 'fun' night of her own and set it before Gabriella with a sympathetic look.
"I'm not much of a drinker. I think I overdid it early into the night so truth be told, I don't remember much. It's like I've lost a huge chunk of time."
"Well, you seemed like you were the life of the party. All the guys in The Rabbit Hole were drooling over you." Ruby raised an eyebrow. She had known Gabriella for...well, for as long as she could remember. She'd always seemed pretty meek and, well, mousy. This wild side was definitely something new. "Honestly, I didn't know you had it in you."
|
|

Post by Hollywood Heidi on Sept 22, 2013 13:12:43 GMT -8
Gabriella thankfully threw back another aspirin as the two she'd taken before leaving didn't seem to be making a dent in the pain.
"Well, you seemed like you were the life of the party. All the guys in The Rabbit Hole were drooling over you."
Gabriella paled and dropped her head into her hands as she groaned. Just great. She worked so hard at being invisible and Elle ruined that all in one night by apparently flaunting herself in that little black dress she'd found discarded on the bathroom floor.
"Honestly, I didn't know you had it in you."
An involuntary laugh of irony escaped her. Oh, if only people knew exactly what she had in her.
"Please tell me I didn't sing," she said dryly in an attempt to make light of the situation. Then her head snapped up and she ignored the pain over the panic. "And please tell me I didn't leave with any of those droolers!"
|
|

Post by Storyteller on Sept 22, 2013 13:47:52 GMT -8
"Please tell me I didn't sing,"
Ruby laugh and shook her head, "Oh you looked like you were far too busy to get up and make a fool of yourself. Me, on the other hand..." She sighed, thinking about how Kitt had grown more distant towards the end of their date. She wasn't sure what she had done but that little voice in the back of her mind was now screaming 'I told you so!'
"And please tell me I didn't leave with any of those droolers!"
Ruby scrunched up her forehead, trying to remember what had become of Gabriella. She had been focused on her own romantic entanglements so she didn't see much else that had happened over the bar, especially after Gabriella had begun talking with Sadler. Oh wait-
"I think I saw you leave with your stepbrother, though Marcus Sadler seemed pretty disappointed." Ruby grabbed the plate of food that Tony pushed through the window and put it on the counter. "This should take away most of the headache and help your stomach."
