***Vlad enters from Main Street***
If there was anything Vlad wasn't, it was a fraud. Yet, he surely felt like one behind the atrocity of the minor taping job of his second pair of emergency glasses. He had looked at his reflection in the shop window at how horrible they looked perched on the bridge of his nose. Not to mention they were most certainly not up to par with the sleek and sophisticated pair he was used to wearing. And yet, here he was wearing them as a result of the aftermath from the monstrosity his last session had become. A multitude of concerns and questions surrounding the encounter with Gabriella and Elle circled his brain, yet the main one that continued to come back to the forefront was what on Earth Elle meant about Mr. Gold? Vlad most certainly couldn't nap, nor could he wait for a brand new pair of appropriate glasses to arrive without doing some research for himself and getting to the bottom of what was up between Gabriella and Mr. Gold. Shaking his head in surrender to his current look, he pushed the Pawn Shop door open.
The chiming of a bell activated before Vlad began to walk along the floor boards of the shop that creaked with character. One man's junk, another man's treasure, Vlad thought internally as he scanned the cluttered shop. He never took the time to go shopping or explore the shops, yet his old soul had an appreciation for vintage antiques. Vlad eyeballed the back of the shop where it appeared that Mr. Gold was currently busy with a customer. The Doctor figured he had enough patience today to wait. After all, it wasn't every day he was able to take the opportunity to slow himself down and meander. He figured he deserved it, especially after the hectic time he already had been through that morning. There were many things that had caught Vlad's eye, yet one in particular made him stop in his tracks. He leaned himself back slightly as to backtrack, almost missing the item that he had suddenly attracted himself to. Taking a quick inhale, he exhaled a forceful breath that blew dust in all directions before reaching both of his hands outward to pick up a black top hat. "What a curious gem," Vlad uttered as he marveled over the hat, it's brim resting between his fingertips. Typically, Vlad dressed professionally well for work as well as play. Though, he wasn't one to particularly be drawn to an item as fashionable as this. Almost as if something unexplainable was drawing him to this hat.

"If I had to place a bet, I'd say you won't make her sing easily. Better stick with the tip I gave you."
"Yes, yes," Cora agreed with a dismissive wave of her hand. "Back of the bakery, way too early in the morning. But you'd better be right or we're not friends anymore."
The sound of the bell above the door rang throughout the shop, and they turned in unison to see the new customer who had arrived. Well, well, well, Cora cooed inwardly as she looked back toward Gold with a cryptic grin. What was about to unfold would be highly enjoyable, even if it did feel like the temperature in the room had dropped like a rock and placed her in the middle of the Arctic. Those errands could wait a few more minutes.
"Dr. Lee, how lovely to see you this morning!" Cora greeted. "You know, one upside of the play's postponement is that I can revisit the printed program. Can I count on you to sponsor an ad, doctor? You'd be surprised how much new blood an eighth of a page could bring to your practice."

"Yes, yes,""Back of the bakery, way too early in the morning. But you'd better be right or we're not friends anymore."
Mr. Gold smirked at her joking threat while, at the same time, wondered about those words in silence. He couldn't remember when somebody had been calling him a friend the last time. That had to be centuries ago, and that not figuratively spoken. On the other hand, he'd never exactly made any effort to appear as a friend. Ah well, such an overrated thing anyway. He'd probably even state so with a beating heart in his chest. Besides, this woman would never call him a friend if she knew who he really was. This illusion, however, was pretty nice at times.
The sound of the shop bell broke into his thoughts all of a sudden, maybe better this way. Having no heart in his chest might mean feeling no deep emotions, yet it didn't mean being unable to miss them, granted, the rare times he'd been experiencing such things. Yah, well, he had no time for any kind of sentimentality. The curse was about to get broken, now that Emma had decided to stay. She only had to get to believe; how hard of a challenge that might be. Well, some people would try to make her at some point. That was not his task or business, after all.
In unison with Cora, Mr. Gold turned around to the showroom to see who had been entering. No, not this man, he thought with inner annoyance as he recognized the new arrival, a frigging nuisance in the land they came from, a shrink in this land. As soon as Cora looked back at him, he quickly replaced his gaze of disapproval with something more neutral, although he couldn't help but give her a challenging look to the cryptic grin of hers. This woman knew way too much about him, even though she knew nothing at all. What he knew about her was that she wouldn't miss the chance to become a spectator of the show she was seeing here.
"Dr. Lee, how lovely to see you this morning!""You know, one upside of the play's postponement is that I can revisit the printed program. Can I count on you to sponsor an ad, doctor? You'd be surprised how much new blood an eighth of a page could bring to your practice."
While Cora was throwing herself on stage, though, Mr. Gold preferred to remain in the loge area for some more time, trying to look as unbiased as possible because, in this land, they never had exchanged any word. Something he had ensured up until this day. What the hell was he doing here?

"Cora, darling, you know I've got a soft spot for the arts. I'd be honored to contribute," Vlad returned Cora's warm greeting with a friendly smile. Cora's theatre programs always brought delight to Vlad whenever he got the chance to see one on his own. Although Vlad wasn't on a friendship basis with Cora, he grew acquainted with her through every remark of congratulations after each of her shows and had grown to become quite the supporter. His gaze moved over to Mr. Gold who was giving him a rather skeptical glance. "Mr. Gold," Vlad greeted him dubiously before peering down between Cora and Gold to find a checkered board adorned with chess pieces, "Chess, is it? I've always been a big fan. All strategy with nothing to hide," Vlad's eyes flickered from the board up at Gold before a grin played along his chin, "Of course, you already know all about that. I've been dying to go up against someone who could pose as real competition. If you're ever looking for someone to meet your match, that is." Vlad extended the invitation to Gold, yet highly doubtful that it would ever be reciprocated. He wasn't sure what he ever did to the pawnbroker, but there was something about him that always seemed rather annoyed with Vlad's presence. After a while, Vlad just figured he was a lonely, bitter man who had nothing better to do than to reflect onto others. He was almost certain there was nothing more to it than that.

"So very generous of you, Doctor," Cora enthused. "I'm just on my way over to the Daily Mirror. I'll have one of the designers draw up some spec ads for you, and you can decide which one you prefer. I'd be happy to bring them by your office one night after you're done seeing patients. It's really no trouble at all."

"I'm certain you would be a much more worthy opponent than I," Cora observed. "I can't even remember which way each little piece is supposed to move, but Gold ... it's like he's won before you've even set the board." She regarded the shopkeeper with what might be construed as begrudging admiration. "So take care, Doctor. Whatever you know about the inner workings of the human mind, I'd wager that Gold knows more."
She bid both of them goodbye and made her way toward the door. While Dr. Lee had his back to her, she looked back at Gold to mouth the words 'He's so hot' and dramatically fanned herself while backing out the doorway.

"Cora, darling, you know I've got a soft spot for the arts. I'd be honored to contribute,"Mr. Gold had to check himself to not throw a look of disgust over at the shrink. He hadn't even addressed him yet, but there was something already now that somewhat pissed him off. Probably just the man's natural aura. "So very generous of you, Doctor,""I'm just on my way over to the Daily Mirror. I'll have one of the designers draw up some spec ads for you, and you can decide which one you prefer. I'd be happy to bring them by your office one night after you're done seeing patients. It's really no trouble at all."For a little moment, Gold sideglanced over at Cora, yet turned his gaze away early enough before she could have noticed. He wouldn't admit that, but not only was he annoyed by the doctor's mere presence, especially here in his shop, but also by the obvious intimacy between Cora and him. "Mr. Gold,"
He looked back up in feigned surprise, pretending to stop taking care of the goods next to him while, in truth, he had only been occupied with sending mental curses at the man. A fake smile appeared around Gold's lips, more difficult than ever before, but luckily for him, his opponent turned his gaze elsewhere. There was only one other person with who he was experiencing this problem of faking a smile at times as well. The one person around town he hated even more, yet didn't exactly avoid. Regina. "Chess, is it? I've always been a big fan. All strategy with nothing to hide,""Of course, you already know all about that. I've been dying to go up against someone who could pose as real competition. If you're ever looking for someone to meet your match, that is."The fake smile on Mr. Gold's features was widening into a slight grin of mocking amusement. But before he could have said anything, Cora was intervening in their exchanging of glances like two alpha leaders sniffing at each other, although only one of them being aware of their true surroundings. "I'm certain you would be a much more worthy opponent than I,""I can't even remember which way each little piece is supposed to move, but Gold ... it's like he's won before you've even set the board." At that, she earned a satisfied smirk from him. However, one that died down somewhat as soon as their unwelcome guest got mentioned again. "So take care, Doctor. Whatever you know about the inner workings of the human mind, I'd wager that Gold knows more."And as intriguing as it might be to beat the count in a chess match, as much wasn't he looking forward to having him long enough in his shop to get even started with it. Just as Mr. Gold was going to nod Cora a farewell, a silent wording of her lips made him almost cringe for a moment. No, just no. What was that even? No. Once she was out of the door, the echo of the store doorbell literally rang in a minute of awkward silence. Eventually, even though reluctantly, Mr. Gold turned his gaze back to the man he had successfully been avoiding to meet for a long time. And again, what the hell was he doing here? "So?" was all Mr. Gold asked, not even a 'what can I do for you?' or ' how can I help you?', but instead only the silent addition of a glance as if to ask 'how can I make you leave again?'

"So take care, Doctor. Whatever you know about the inner workings of the human mind, I'd wager that Gold knows more."
"'Til next time, my dear," Vlad tipped his forehead in a chipper farewell to Cora before turning his back to give Gold his full attention. The pawnbroker appeared to be in slight discomfort, and he wasn't sure if it was due to his presence or if Cora had given him a run for his money before he had entered the scene. Cora was definitely one of those people who had a firm footing when it came to testing the trigger points of others. Though, Vlad liked her style and especially found it entertaining when Gold's buttons were pushed. He still couldn't quite understand why it was that Gold had such a problem with him.
Vlad relaxed into a satisfied grin as he stared at Gold through a rather awkward silence. He had only forgotten for only a moment of what he had come to the pawnshop for. Though, annoying Gold posed to be more fun in this moment. Vlad didn't see the harm in taking his sweet time in getting to the point, he wasn't up to a whole lot that morning anyways.
"So?"
Vlad almost allowed an amused chuckle to escape, yet he encased it as his lips continued to be pressed together in a smile. Gold was most definitely inconvenienced by Vlad being in his shop. All the more fun for the doctor. Suddenly, Vlad remembered that he held the antique top had down by his side. He had forgotten that he had even picked it up from the shelf, and here it was. The brim still sitting between his fingertips, as if it belonged to him. "Oh! Silly me, I did mean to put this back on the shelf in which it sat upon," Vlad chuckled heartily, looking down at the hand as he grabbed it with both hands before looking back up at Gold, "Where on earth did you find such a curious article?" Vlad pondered as he stalled the real reason he came to visit.

Gold was watching each of his actions, of the disgusting movements around this man's lips as if he found malicious pleasure in something. Usually, Gold was just the same when meeting someone he held memories of a past time with while they had no clue about that, but why on earth was he smiling? Well, whatever. Mr. Gold was trying his best to hide the disgust he felt for this scum he had been crossing paths with more than once but instead made an effort to smile back; A smile not less malicious looking, though, only in place until his opponent spoke up again.
"Oh! Silly me, I did mean to put this back on the shelf in which it sat upon,"
Between clenched teeth, hidden behind his closed lips, Mr. Gold was grinding the upcoming comment into something nonverbal, only visible as slight twitches around his jaw while his eyes threateningly asked What... do you... wANT?
"Where on earth did you find such a curious article?"
At that question, he eased a little. For a moment, he'd had the odd feeling that this man could have known who they really were, but that was just not possible. And now that he got asked a simple question like this, it seemed even more unlikely. Well, maybe he just had gotten carried away with old feelings.
Mr. Gold smiled again, at least as much of a smile he was able to force. Pointing at the hat in the doctor's hand, he, instead of an answer, asked in return: "Isn't it fascinating how timeless objects like this... always find their way back into a rightful owner's hands, apparently with an appreciation of an ancient origin? I guess times and places are irrelevant, so long as they come together at some point." Mr. Gold was known for his cryptic talking, yet, this time, there was much more behind his words than only joy about the fact that he knew more than the person he was talking to. If there really was a chance that this man knew something about his past, then such words would raise an interest instead of just an eyebrow like it was the usual reaction to phrases people didn't understand, especially in this place where no one believed in anything. The smile on Gold's lips grew wider. "Are you interested in buying this?"

"Isn't it fascinating how timeless objects like this... always find their way back into a rightful owner's hands, apparently with an appreciation of an ancient origin? I guess times and places are irrelevant, so long as they come together at some point."
Confusion grew on Vlad's face as he was tickled with curiosity by Gold's way of words. There was no doubt in his mind that the man before him had always been the greatest wordsmith in town and so many other mysteries that went along with being Mr. Gold. Though, the peculiar ways of the town's pawnbroker was not why Vlad had brought his business into the store. He figured it was best to keep himself on track before he completely got sidetracked.
"Are you interested in buying this?"
Chuckling inwardly to himself, Vlad was about to graciously decline the offer. Yet, he looked down at the article once more and couldn't bring himself to say no. "I'll tell you what," Vlad looked back up at Mr. Gold, holding the hat in his hands still, "I'll give you a sale. But first," Vlad looked left then right over his shoulder to make sure that they were the only ones in the shop before turning his attention back to Gold in a rather secretive manner, "I'm on the verge of a breakthrough with one of my clients. And they tell me you're one of the only others in this town that's familiar with their case," Vlad let on, insinuating that he's had some sort of permission to come down to the shop and speak about her, "Let's just call them...Jekyll and Hyde. You're a smart man, Gold, I believe you know of whom I speak of. How did you come to know them? Both of them?" Vlad questioned Gold, unsure if he would get any answers or not. But he knew he would have to try if it meant coming down to his last few resorts to helping Gabriella.

"I'll tell you what,""I'll give you a sale. But first,"
There was only a slight movement around Mr. Gold's lips, giving away his dislike about such a condition. There was not even the need to hear it first, but instead, the words but first were enough already. Nobody was imposing a condition towards him, especially not this guy. But Mr. Gold was a professional, here at least, so he remained as such, quiet and composed, a smile, expectant yet not intrusive, upon his features even.
"I'm on the verge of a breakthrough with one of my clients. And they tell me you're one of the only others in this town that's familiar with their case,""Let's just call them...Jekyll and Hyde. You're a smart man, Gold, I believe you know of whom I speak of. How did you come to know them? Both of them?"
Many reactions were showing on Mr. Gold's face within only seconds. First, a raising of his lips, rather to hide the stress of such a question, asked so bluntly. Then, an almost inaudible snort as if to assume that this was a joke. And last but not least, a slightly irritated look, passed on from a twitch around his eyes.
Suddenly Mr. Gold appeared less focused on the other but instead let his gaze wander around the articles in front of him, pretending to continue taking care of them while they spoke. "Both, you say? Look, I don't know a lot about mental illnesses. That should be your field of expertise if I'm right. So..." He gave a warm chuckle before turning his head back towards the man in front of him. "... I'm not exactly sure what you're driving at? I know a lot of people here in town. It just so happens when you're the owner of a shop." His smile remained friendly, professional, not mocking at all, even though there was a quiet undertone in his voice that was.

"I understand. A man like you probably meets many new acquaintances on the daily," Nodding, Vlad began to grow rather disappointed inwardly as he knew that he wouldn't get anywhere with being too vague. Though, something Gold had uttered amongst his list of excuses made Vlad raise his eyebrows slightly. The doctor was a hypnotherapist, and sure his profession had a lot to do with training the mind - but he was no psychologist. Whatever conclusion Gold had come to within his mind of whom Vlad was speaking of, it was someone with a mental health issue. He must know it's Gabriella, "Yet how many people have you met that have two different personalities living in one vessel?" Gold just had to know it was her. Turning his hips slightly, Vlad placed an elbow to rest on the countertop as he gave an interrogating stare at Gold over the top of his glasses.

"I understand. A man like you probably meets many new acquaintances on the daily,"
He gave a nod to that, along with another of his friendly fake smiles. For a short moment, Mr. Gold had thought he'd have gotten rid of this nosy drag, but then it came another question, almost causing him to roll his eyes right in front of this man. The final straw of it, though, was the posture and look upon him while the doctor did.
"Yet how many people have you met that have two different personalities living in one vessel?"
Once again, Mr. Gold was faking a smile, remained professional, although he would like nothing better right now than turn this man into a little snail, only to squish it with one of his shoes afterward. Anyways, that was not how things worked out in this land. What a shame. "Well, how shall I know?" Mr. Gold questioned back, rather smirking. "Look, I've met practically everyone in this town. So, does this conversation serve a certain purpose?" His words were still free of resentment, at least on the outward, but instead sounded only interested, almost curious even.

"Well, how shall I know?" "Look, I've met practically everyone in this town. So, does this conversation serve a certain purpose?"
The mocking smirk that Gold bore on his face spoke louder than the words that poured from his tongue. Vlad always despised that smirk. More townsfolk than less were typically greeted with the same smugness. Though, the fact that everyone in this town respected Dr. Lee except for Mr. Gold tended to get under his skin. Vlad felt that Gold knew exactly who he was talking about, yet danced lightly around answering any sort of questions Vlad had for him. There were a few queries that came to mind in regards to Gold's reasoning deeper than simply playing the part of the annoyed shopkeeper. Thinking back to his conversation with Gabriella, she seemed rather hesitant when talking about Gold, almost afraid of saying too much. And then there's Gold, who's revealing too little. The man was always out for himself, so Vlad highly doubted he was protecting Gabriella out of the goodness of his heart. And out of the goodness of Vlad's he figured it would be best to drop the vagueness and if word gets back to Gabriella about this encounter, he will just have to explain himself.
"I just think it's absolutely fascinating how a man like you has his nose in every corner of this little town. It's...well, rather abnormal if you ask me," Vlad addressed as he dropped his admiration into a rather puzzled glance in Gold's direction, slowly pacing in front of the counter in his interrogation, "Between the two of us, Elle is a rather difficult lass to meet. She is kept well under wraps in the depths of secrecy. Yet - besides myself, you of all people are the only other in this town that is aware of her existence. How? Why?" For Gold, there was always a why. The motive man was a walking concern in Storybrooke, Vlad could only hope his intentions were not of the ill sort.

Gold's features became more hostile, although he still managed to pull himself together early enough. It was better not to show his true feelings towards this man. It would only bring up more questions. However, a little bit of them percolated, after all. And yet, once again, Gold was faking a smile before he launched into an answer. "Look, I can't give a professional opinion on conditions like that, so I prefer to keep any opinion to myself in the first place." He replaced the object he had just finished polishing and turned his full attention to the doctor for the first time in their conversation. "All I can tell you is that I found it quite unusual when, suddenly, this woman started talking like she was a totally different person," Gold lied rather professionally, then shrugging. "But again, is there a reason for this questioning? I'm willing to help, don't get me wrong, but I doubt that I can."

To Vlad, Gold appeared to have been holding back. For Elle to reveal herself to someone in this town, there had to have been a very big reason. Unless Gold had a way of pulling her out from the depths of Gabriella's consciousness. Though, Vlad was able to perform successfully such a task with a lengthy amount of time in school and studies under his belt. What made Gold so special? At this point, he knew that he wouldn't be able to get anything useful out of Gold today. So he would keep a watchful eye on the Pawnshop owner even moreso than before.
Vlad pursed his lips together in a defeated grin, shaking his head as he handed the vintage top hat over to Mr. Gold to purchase, "You're right. Unless you can somehow magically pull a fragmented personality out from someone's head, there would be no way for you to really help," Vlad sighed as he handed over a bill of money to Mr. Gold for payment of the article of clothing, "I'm just grasping at straws to help a friend achieve a better quality of life at this point. But no matter, it's not your problem." Vlad confirmed with disappointment as he reached his hand over the countertop to retrieve the shopping bag.

"You're right. Unless you can somehow magically pull a fragmented personality out from someone's head, there would be no way for you to really help,"
"Imagine that..." he couldn't help but comment on the so accurate explanation with a slight grin of amusement. Mr. Gold was no idiot, though, so he knew that a man like Dr. Vladimir Lee wouldn't get palmed off with just that. However, he might have missed the part where he had to explain himself. So Gold left it at that, just as the other man did, both knowing that this wouldn't be the last time that they were having this conversation about the woman with the two personalities.
"I'm just grasping at straws to help a friend achieve a better quality of life at this point. But no matter, it's not your problem."
If he thought that Gold was to manipulate by making him feel guilty, then he was grievously mistaken. Gold might have a lot of different traits, but a consciousness of guilt, at least not when it wouldn't involve his beloved ones - which were not many -, wasn't one of them.
He smiled again. "I'm sure you will soon find something out, doctor. Have a nice day," Gold quickly added before the other could have intervened with more words or questions about the former topic. Also, he wanted him to finally leave his shop.

"I'm sure you will soon find something out, doctor. Have a nice day,"
Vlad inwardly chuckled to himself as he retrieved his bagged purchase from the counter in front of Gold. Still holding a polite smile on his face, Vlad cocked his head curiously to the side, overcome with a cheeky thought, "It must be nice to know of all of this town's ongoings and yet remain utterly unbothered. You'll have to teach me your secret someday," Throwing around digs wasn't typical of Vlad's nature, and yet for some reason he felt compelled somewhere deep within himself to give Gold a hard time, "Oh, and you owe me a chess match. Until next time, Mr. Gold." Vlad gave Gold a single nod farewell before showing himself out the front door, confused as to why he found a sudden, new enjoyment in badgering Gold so much. Though he didn't spend too much time pondering that thought as his mind raced back to jumping through hoops, trying to figure out how exactly to help Gabriella.

"It must be nice to know of all of this town's ongoings and yet remain utterly unbothered. You'll have to teach me your secret someday,"
A rather humorless smile - at least for those able to read it - appeared around Gold's lips, yet he said nothing in return. He hated people that always wanted to have the last word, especially since Gold knew exactly that this man was one of those, so it was causing even more difficulty to him to leave it at that. However, the urge to see him exit his shop was stronger. So instead, Mr. Gold, smirking in fake amusement, watched the other one as he received his bagged purchase, about to turn around. Of course, he wouldn't do so without getting on his nerves at least once more. Mr. Gold kept the smile while actually wanting to roll his eyes in annoyance.
"Oh, and you owe me a chess match. Until next time, Mr. Gold."
The fake smile widened a bit, by now a real challenge. "Farewell," was all Mr. Gold said in return. He simply couldn't bear another second without showing off his true face, and that would lead to only more questions. Now leave.
Once Dr. Lee had left, the shop bell ringing the echo of this unwelcome visit, he suddenly lunged out with his cane, letting it meet with the counter before letting it fall onto the ground and placing his hands there instead. Never had he wished more to have magic in this place. One day.

Feeling grimy, tired, and a bit chilled from the hours spent digging at the walls of the cold, damp cave, Gabriella made her way to the counter were Mr. Gold stood and unceremoniously emptied the meager contents of her satchel onto the glass. Dirt that had worked its way into the satchel and had also freed from the items on their journey from the caves to the shop had also deposited across the glass, giving Gabriella a small bit of satisfaction.
"More junk for your shop," she said in a false cheery tone. Scooting the satchel to the side, she more carefully removed the larger item she'd slung onto her free shoulder and placed it atop the other items. "This one was a right pain to remove," she said, lifting the edge of the bow with her finger then releasing it, causing it to rock slightly on its perch atop the other items. "But I managed, and without breaking the string, if you can appreciate that," she added dryly. While others may not have possessed the patience and would have yanked it free, preferring to instead simply replace the old string, Gabriella had used the quality traits she possessed that made her the best of caregivers. As if it were a person under her care, Gabriella worked patiently and meticulously and with great care. She had slowly chipped and dusted away at the dirt around it to cause the least amount of damage possible and maintain as much of its originality as she could.
With a finger, she pushed the items around so that they did not overlap as she spoke. "I'm no Indiana Jones, but something doesn't add up with those caves. I mean, look at these things." She gestured open palmed at the items now resting in a neat line between the bow handle and string. A pocket watch, its hands still running, a golden scarab, a couple of ancient coins she couldn't identify the origins of, and a fairly large chunk of blue stone, nearly the size of a fist, that looked to be an uncut sapphire to her untrained eye. That particular item had caught her eye as it seemed to glow when it had first revealed itself to the light after she'd chipped away another small chunk of cave wall. It must be worth a pretty penny. And the golden scarab as well, if it were real gold and the coins? Big collector items. She finally pulled her eyes away from the treasures. "It's a hodgepodge of items, seemingly from all sorts of different places and," she glanced down again, "different eras. How have all these things accumulated in one place? And in cave walls? That's not normal. And how is it possible that this thing still works?" she asked, picking up the pocket watch and glancing down at it. "Well, the hands are going the wrong way, but they are still moving." The 'LONDON' written on its face to the middle left had easily caught her eye when she'd first freed it, but upon closer inspection, she saw smaller writing and lifted it closer to her face, raising her eyebrows when she read 'made 1882'.

Judging by the sparse greeting, Mr. Gold could tell that Gabriella didn't plan on staying any longer than it would take her to empty her satchel onto the glass, serving him with more foundings. He remained silent as she did so, only giving her a not-so-pleased expression at the dirt coming with the items. However, Mr. Gold was quickly back to get a look at the things in front of him.
"More junk for your shop,"
His gaze wandered up to her, resting on the larger item she'd slung into her free shoulder, landing on top of all other items only a moment later. A bow. The bow.
"This one was a right pain to remove,""But I managed, and without breaking the string, if you can appreciate that,"
"Well, thank you," he said rather reserved, almost like it was a matter of course to him that she would not break the items she collected for him. It was a matter of course. Any job should be fulfilled with accuracy, no matter the payment, if there would be one that was. Anyways, in this case, Mr. Gold knew that she was simply too accurate with everything she did so that not putting this amount of effort into it would be out of question, even if she had wanted to.
"I'm no Indiana Jones, but something doesn't add up with those caves. I mean, look at these things.""It's a hodgepodge of items, seemingly from all sorts of different places and,""different eras. How have all these things accumulated in one place? And in cave walls? That's not normal. And how is it possible that this thing still works?""Well, the hands are going the wrong way, but they are still moving."
Mr. Gold's eyes had long observed the different kinds of items and their origin when she finished pointing that out to her so accurately. He looked back up at her after a while, a distant yet friendly smile on his face. "Isn't this a fascinating business?" was all he said to it before observing the items again, starting to stow them away without paying any more attention to Gabriella for now. His eyes would still observe her slightly though.

There was a smile on his face as he answered. Not the usual smug smirk. A real one, though distant. Nothing about this seemed strange to him and it was almost as if there was some sort of... nostalgia to the distance in his expression? Recognition? Understanding?
Pulling herself from her thoughts, Gabriella placed the pocket watch back down amongst the few items he had yet to put away but as he reached for it, she placed her hand atop it to gain his attention, the band of her ring giving a small tink sound as it clinked against the glass of the pocket watch. "None of this seems curious to you. What is it you know?" she asked, eyes narrowed shrewdly.

Mr. Gold looked up from the watch to Gabriella, her hand resting atop it. He had taken notice of this new jewelry on her finger long before it audibly met with the material underneath, for he knew well about the secret items hidden in the dark corners of this place, connected to their pasts and almost mysteriously ending up in hands that once had been holding them. It was the same with the ring on Gabriella's finger. Mr. Gold, of course, wasn't aware of everyone's connection to their very personal items, but he could guess when one of them had found their rightful owner back.
"None of this seems curious to you. What is it you know?"
He looked back up into her face as she spoke up again. A slight smile still rested on his face. "Oh, they are curious to me," Mr. Gold informed, letting his fingers slide over the items that remained on his desk. "But curiosity comes in different forms, my dear," he added with a smirk back on his face, eying the ring on Gabriella's finger for a moment. "I like mine from a professional distance rather than adorning myself with said things." Although he kept it cryptic, Mr. Gold's eyes said clearly and now give me that ring... please.

Again, he didn't answer her question. She wasn't surprised but that didn't mean she wasn't any less annoyed by it.
Mr. Gold was pointedly glancing down and Gabriella followed his gaze, wondering what his sudden issue was. Her eyes landed on the ring on her finger. She was momentarily caught by surprise, forgetting about her rising tenacity over getting some answers. She rarely ever wore rings, especially due to her job, so she was almost constantly conscious of the foreign sensation of one against her fingers.
But this one, this random object that had drawn her in and captivated her like none of the other junk she'd dug up had... she'd completely forgotten was around her finger.
"Right, I'd forgotten about that," she said in distracted excuse in case he assumed she'd been sneakily trying to leave with it. She pulled it off the ring finger of her right hand, her hand then slowly closing and reopening. Studying her bare hand, Gabriella's head tilted in slight confusion over how it felt foreign to not have it on her finger.
Gabriella held the ring out to him, but then her hand subconsciously drew back over how badly she wanted to hold onto this little treasure. "May I keep this one? I'll buy it." Because she wanted it so badly, she kept her tone pleasant rather than the snark it deserved for offering to pay for something she'd found.

"Right, I'd forgotten about that,"
Mr. Gold's smirk grew a little bit at her remark, although barely noticeable. Of course, he knew about the captivation these items exerted on them. And - of course - it was a pleasure to him breaking into that by claiming said items anyway. Mr. Gold was anything but surprised about her hesitation and, lastly, drawing back of her hand, though.
"May I keep this one? I'll buy it."
He let out a quiet sniff of amusement, making no move to draw back his reached-out hand. "No."

"No." she repeated, slightly taken aback with surprise. She hadn't expected that. She'd been pleasant and everything. But then again, this was Mr. Gold she was talking to.
The ring still hovered in her fingers between them as she waited for him to explain, but he remained in amused silence, which poked at patience and a bit of her snarky temper got the better of her. "Sorry, but isn't this a shop?" She gestured at her surroundings flippantly with her free hand. "Normally, people sell things in one. Or are you just a hoarder who wants to show off all his little treasures for the pleasure of telling people they can't have any of them?"
No, the whole town knew making deals was his thing, and making deals is what happened all day long in a pawn shop. So why wasn't he dealing with her on this?
Damn him and his infuriatingly smarmy smirk over the glee it gave him to refuse her something so trivial. It was as if he knew she was drawn to this little, inconsequential object. Gabriella took in a calming breath and angled at his weakness. "Come now, Gold. I'm trying to make a deal," she managed through only half gritted teeth. "Name your price."

Her repeat of his answer left him completely unimpressed, consistent in his stance, and patient for receiving the ring from her.
"Sorry, but isn't this a shop?""Normally, people sell things in one. Or are you just a hoarder who wants to show off all his little treasures for the pleasure of telling people they can't have any of them?"
"Actually," Mr. Gold launched into a reply, still patient and with slight amusement, "this is a pawnshop. There's a difference, in case you're not aware." She was well aware of the difference and what it would mean regarding their little ring problem, just as he was well aware of her being aware, which probably was why she didn't go into more questioning on this part but, instead, got to the point.
"Come now, Gold. I'm trying to make a deal,""Name your price."
"Well, we already have a deal, dearie," Mr. Gold pointed out matter-of-factly, still unimpressed by her try to make him cooperate otherwise. There simply was no way she could keep the ring, not yet. "But have my advice," he offered then after all, smirking again slightly. "Fulfill your part of said deal, and it'll be yours."

Gabriella raised her eyebrows. "The one where you won't tell me what the parameters are or what it is you're looking for?" she asked incredulously. "The one, I'm starting to suspect, might not even have any form of an endgame to it?"
Knowing she wouldn't get an answer, just like all the other times she tried to get one, her tone turned from incredulous sarcasm to flat and calm with the underlying anger seething under her surface. "Fine, keep it," she said, forcefully pressing the ring into his hand he'd irritatingly kept held out the entire time with his even more irritating calm amusement at her expense. "I don't care," she said flippantly, even though she knew they both knew she did.
"Now if you'll excuse me, digging up rubbish all day is knackering," she said, slinging her empty satchel back onto her shoulder as she headed for the door, "and I'd like to spend the rest of my day in pleasant company."
Gabriella slammed the door behind her, the sharp sound of the bell almost tinkling off its hinges giving her a small bit of satisfaction.
'I like him. He's fun,' came Elle's opinion in her head. A lie, as she liked being under the control of someone as little as Gabriella did, but she knew her upbeat proclamation would annoy Gabriella.
"Of course you do, you sociopathic parasite," Gabriella muttered under her breath.
'Better than being an uptight bitch,' Elle proclaimed cheerily.
Gabriella had to disagree.
The man was infuriating and if she kept letting him get to her like that, allowing the anger that seemed to feed and strengthen Elle get the better of her, she'd land herself in the secret psychward in the hospital's basement.
Taking in a deep breath, Gabriella let off some of the steam of her anger on a frustrated growl, then started to put some distance between herself and Mr. Gold.

"Fine, keep it,"
"Thank you," Mr. Gold couldn't help but utter in a friendly tone, one that probably would annoy the hell out of her just some more. While she told him she didn't care, which, of course, she did, he took his time to open one of the drawers in front of him to let the ring disappear in there for now. Only at her next words, he looked back up at her, again just friendly and like a shopkeeper who would eye a customer when they said their farewell.
"Now if you'll excuse me, digging up rubbish all day is knackering,""and I'd like to spend the rest of my day in pleasant company."
This time, Mr. Gold didn't react to her words at all. She was obviously angry and in belief that her words would do anything with him, but they didn't. The friendly smile remained on his face as he watched her leave. Not even at the bang of his shop door and the bell sounding sharper than usual, he moved a muscle. The smile grew even, now much more sinister though. Gabriella would learn to cooperate because she had to, after all.
