Regina
*Enters from Storybrooke Elementary School*
Regina still had ten minutes and took that time to just go over a few papers, and think about how she could possibly bring her plans to action. She had kept these do gooders under her spell, they were her puppets and had no idea. She ran there lives and finally was on her way to get her happy ending. Snow white would pay for everything along with her charming, all in good time.

REGINA MILLS
Regina Mills carefully inspected herself in the mirror. Each strand of perfectly black hair was in place, accentuating her pale yet beautiful features. Her lips were shaded a dark haze of purple, and her power suit moved with her in what was almost an extension of her own body. She practiced a smile; gleaming white teeth that stood harshly against the shadow of her lips and eyes. Not quite perfection…but getting there.
Appearance was important, after all. Appearance informed who you were, who others were when they were around you, and the world moulded itself to fit the standards of appearance. Sooner or later, you became your appearance. You melted into it and that mask you wore so carefully ate fully into the face. Yes, appearance informed reality itself. What was the curse, but a trick of the eye that reverberated into the mind? A pretty poison that changed your view? But Regina saw everything, from both sides of the mirror. A little like a Goddess.
Or just a Queen.
Her intercom buzzed with an alert. “No need to keep Ms Mercouri waiting. Send her on in,” she said with satisfied primness, moving away from the mirror to sit behind her desk.

"Good day, Madam Mayor," Cora greeted as she entered Regina's office. "Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to meet with me. I have a very exciting season planned for the community theater this year, and I trust you'll agree once I've shared it with you." She continued to stand in front of the mayor's desk, waiting for permission to be seated, as she kept her posture straight as an army private awaiting inspection.

REGINA MILLS
Regina's lips curled into her usual closed mouth smile, a smile that lacked all warmth and ease. It looked more like a process involving invisible hooks and lines. "Trust away," she said, spreading her hands. "And like you just said, it is a busy schedule, so.." She spun her finger to indicate for Cora to hurry.

"Right, well..." She scrambled into one of the chairs facing Regina's desk, pulled the proposal paper out of her portfolio and placed it in front of the mayor. "As you can see, the Terpsichore board wants a musical, a Christmas show, a family drama for the spring, and a general audience comedy for summer. I've done a run-down of the projected costs for copyrights, set construction and decoration, costuming, and technical whatnot. And I've spoken to Mr. Gold about some of the harder-to-find props.
"He's on board, you'll be happy to know," she added hastily, unsure whether it was wise to let Regina know of an existing ally. "And he's very excited about doing The Sound of Music in the fall. We both agree there are many opportunities for the community in such a large ensemble. I suggested you play one of the nuns!" She paused for breath and a triumphant smile, which wilted quickly under the mayor's gaze.

REGINA MILLS
Regina listened carefully, her smile frozen and face impassive. She had to admit to a certain sense of sadistic joy in the natural fear she brought about in others. She had spent a great deal of her life being afraid, after all. It was only fair to turn the tables every so often.
Regina reached for the portfolio, giving it a cursory skim-through. "Impressive. You've certainly put your heart into this," she said and then raised an eyebrow sharply. "One of the nuns? Do you think I'm suited for that, or was it a joke?"

"One of the nuns? Do you think I'm suited for that, or was it a joke?"
"Of course not, Madam Mayor," she answered. "I mean, of course it wasn't a joke and of course you'd be suited to it. It's just common practice for a local celebrity to make a cameo in a big production. Nothing that would require a lot of your time but a dose of good PR for you. Not that you need it."
She clasped her hands together and leaned forward. "Madam Mayor, everyone knows how seriously you take your job, your involvement in the community, the happiness of your son and the other children who are the future of Storybrooke. I just think it would be nice for you to put on a nun's habit for two nights and a Sunday matinee and have a little fun with it."

REGINA MILLS
Regina relaxed back into her chair a little, crossing her shapely legs. "I'll think about it," she said, not planning to spend any thought on it. Despite her love of seeing Cora squirm, she did like the woman. She was another person who was good at setting the stage, although Regina chose a larger setting.
"Well, thank you for the kind words, Cora," she said, looking back through the portfolio. "And you've certainly put the effort in. As for The Sound of Music..." She smiled sweetly. "It's one of my favourite things. You have my complete support in that. Some of the others...I'd like to see the prices knocked down a little...but there's nothing wrong otherwise. What other plays were you thinking about?"

Cora allowed herself to relax, a little, at Regina's approval of her choice of musical. "I was thinking the requisite 'A Christmas Carol' for the holidays," she began. "Family tradition and all that. Perhaps 'Our Town' for the spring drama. And '1001 Arabian Knights' for the summer production. That way, we can involve the children once they're out of school. You know Henry is always welcome on my stage."

Regina nodded along at first, until the mention of 1001 Arabian Nights. "No. Not Arabian Nights," she said abruptly, her mind turning to Sidney Glass and other citizens of Storybrooke. "Find something else. The others are fine, but not that one. It's..." She tried to find a reason. "...too open for people to accuse it of being politically incorrect."

"Ah, of course. I certainly don't want to be considered insensitive," Cora remarked. "And we have plenty of time to come up with an alternate title. As long as I have your approval on the proposed schedule, I can begin approaching the local businesses and asking for their sponsorship. Any new players in town I should start with?" she inquired.

"You have my 'approval'," smiled Regina, practically pronouncing the quotation marks. "You already have Gold, I assume. That covers a lot of ground. Otherwise, I suggest you try some of the newer businesses that have opened. I heard about a bakery or something like it. And your friend Mr Sadler is a notoriously generous soul." Regina smiled again, her lips growing thin.

"Oh, I'm sure Mr. Sadler is busy with lawyerly things today," she sighed. Plus I'm not talking to him again until he apologizes for being a complete wanker, she added inwardly. "And yes, the bakery. I imagine the proprietors would be eager to get their name out there. Thank you again for your time, Madame Mayor," she said, gathering her paperwork. "It's always good to know that I can count on your support."

Regina stood as Cora did, and gestured toward the door. "You certainly can," she said. "I think I'm actually looking forward to it."

"Wonderful! And of course, I'll save the best seats in the house for you and Henry," Cora assured her as she walked to the office door. "Have a lovely day!"

The clock, which has been stuck at 8:15 for as long as anyone can remember, began to move once again promptly at 8:15 p.m.
Several hours pass. It is now the morning after the clock has started.
A few may have noticed the clock moving last night and those close enough may have realized when it chimed the 9 p.m. hour. Others may have learned by word of mouth or not until they next arrived in town.

Regina closed the door and headed for her desk. She needed to gather her thoughts if she was going to keep Storybrook under her thumb, this Emma Swan needed to go.
