WENDY
Wendy stirred, sensing that morning had arrived and that she'd soon need to get up and face a new day. Today, she'd be meeting with an official to be briefed on her new assignment. She grumbled as she snuggled closer to Jax's warmth.

JAX
Jax woke slowly, drawing his arms a little tighter around Wendy. He was always a bit of a cuddler in the mornings, especially mornings after sex.

"Morning," she said as she felt Jax stirring. She glanced at the clock, seeing that they only had a couple minutes left, and groaned as she buried her face in Jax's neck. The slight throbbing starting in her head was also a reminder of the hour.
It had been nearly 24 hours since she'd last taken her daily pill she'd needed since those last experiments they'd put her through so many years ago. Damn the Alliance. She was almost positive they'd done this to her on purpose so she'd be dependent on them for the medicine she needed to live a normal life. It was made especially for her and not one found anywhere on the market. They were always sure to give her only a few more pills than was enough for the expected length of the mission and today, she'd be getting her "refill" along with her new assignment.

"Morning," he muttered back, not opening his eyes an inch. He wasn't meeting his client until the afternoon, so he didn't need to be awake this early. "When's your thing today?" He was never very articulate first thing in the morning and Wendy never expected him to be switched on into Companion mode all the time, so he usually didn't bother when he was with her.

I'm supposed to be there in about two hours." It wasn't exactly early still but considering they'd kept each other up well into the night, she was tired. "Meeting the Purple Belly at the Sea Siren Bar at noon." Jax knew her feelings about the Alliance. He also knew that she was secretly working against them. He was the only person she trusted and confided in.
Wendy groaned as the throbbing in her head kicked up a notch. She rolled over onto her back and rubbed her temples, cursing the Alliance under her breath with each stab of pain. She couldn't sleep in even if she wanted to. Wendy glanced at Jax in envy. "Your appointment not 'til later, as usual?"

Jax frowned at her with one eye open when she reacted to her headache. He knew it was withdrawal from her meds and it frustrated him that he was powerless to help her. "Yeah," he answered, "I meet my client a couple hours after yours." Looking at her again, he couldn't help asking, "You sure you're well enough to do this?"

Wendy sighed and put on a reassuring smile, grateful to have one person in her life that truly cared for her well-being and most importantly, didn't desert her. "I'll be fine." She leaned over and gave him a quick kiss before climbing out of bed and stepping around the strewn items of clothing they'd been wearing the night before. She reached into one of the pockets inside her bag and pulled out the little bottle, shaking out one of the three remaining pills. "Plus I'm due for a refill."
She grabbed a glass and made her way to the bathroom sink, filling it up. "No meeting, no refill," she simply said as she popped the pill in her mouth and took a couple gulps of water. No pills, queue the crippling migraines, then seizures, then coma and teetering on the fine line between life and death. Thankfully, it had only gotten to that extreme once. She mentally cursed the Alliance again, something she found herself doing hundreds of times a day.
The pressure in her head was already beginning to ease. "I'm gonna grab a quick shower," she called out as she pushed the door closed enough to keep the warmth of the steam in. After nearly two decades, there were no locked doors between them.

"Yeah," he replied as the door shut. He could do the decent thing and treat her to a nice sponge bath and pamper her a little before her job, but he was feeling particularly lazy and decided on dozing off a little while longer until she got out again.

WENDY
Wendy finished showering and getting dressed, making sure she had an emergency back-up pill in her locket. She picked up the small black case which held the syringe of the more powerful emergency medicine and looked down at herself. She wore a dress. Just a casual, pretty dress normal women wore and the type she rarely had the opportunity to wear. No pockets, no concealed compartments sewn in the material or seams. No holsters of any type. For more than two decades she'd carried it around and had never needed to use it.
She put the case back down on the dresser. She may get an earful from Jax for not taking it with her but there'd been other times such as these when she was only meeting to be briefed on her next assignment that she hadn't taken it with her.
All set to go, Wendy walked over to Jax who had dozed off again and placed a kiss on his forehead. "I'll send you a wave as soon as I know where they're sending me next," she said quietly near his ear so as to not pull him completely out of sleep. "Have fun tonight," she added with a wink.
