***Marcus Sadler enters***
Marcus liked wearing suits. He liked the sense of power they gave him, the way they elevated him above others...and he did just like the way he looked in them. Now, however, his sharp tie was feeling like a noose. He loosened it as he walked to the bar, letting it hang around his shoulders. "Let's start with a daiquiri, huh?" he said, leaning on the bar.
He downed the entire drink in one gulp, not savoring or appreciating it. He'd chosen it simply because it was a 'pre-dinner' cocktail, and therefore appropriate. Or something. "That's fine, 'nother," he said, licking the outside skin of the lime slice.

***Cora enters from the theater***
"Starting early, are we?" Cora asked, appearing at Marcus' side and tossing her purse onto the bar before placing her order with the bartender. "Vodka tonic, please."
She turned to survey the crowd, propping her elbows on the counter. "This happy hour needs to get...happier. There's a whole potential Von Trapp ensemble out there. I just need to find them."

"Starting early, are we?"
"If anything, this is late," he said, lifting his second glass.
"This happy hour needs to get...happier. There's a whole potential Von Trapp ensemble out there. I just need to find them."
"Don't even think of eyeing me up for Max. Way too obvious," said Sadler, finishing the drink quickly. "Although I can see Mary Margaret stepping into Julie Andrews shoes. Not that she'd leave her kids for a second." He turned to adopt the same position as Cora, albeit with an empty glass in his hand. "You could cast Dr Whale as any Nazi...he's got the whole creepy Aryan thing going on. And I think Leroy would make a good Rolfe, don't you think?"

"I think that I've learned not to take casting advice from you," she replied. "Because weren't you the one who suggested Mary Margaret for the female lead in 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof'? I'm sure that had nothing to do with your desire to see her half-dressed for two hours."
She turned to retrieve her drink from the bartender. "You as Max? Perish the thought. I wouldn't dare to tear you away from your beloved law practice," she pledged.

"Not at all," he maintained innocently. "Why on earth would I want to see that sexy teacher with the cute pixie-cut half-dressed? You insult my honor."
"You as Max? Perish the thought. I wouldn't dare to tear you away from your beloved law practice,"
Marcus grinned and tilted his head at her. "It is beloved. I am all about justice," he said. "Now, how drunk am I going to have to get you before you begin table-dancing?"

"Oh, darling, I'll do that sober. Typical Tuesday night," she replied with a nonchalant flick of her wrist. "Sadly, not enough people here yet to enjoy the show."
Cora took another sip of her drink and surveyed their fellow patrons over the rim. "Speaking of that beloved law practice, you haven't been doing any paperwork for Gold, have you?" she inquired.

"...she asked, plotting away," finished Sadler with a hefty sigh. "What are you interested in, Mercouri? Stirring up trouble?"

Ruby slipped through the entrance of 'The Rabbit Hole' from the now darkened streets of town. She was certainly no stranger to the establishment, recalling a few times even just recently that the Sheriff had to show up to escort her home after a night of free drinks from men who hoped to get her drunk enough to forget even her lower standards. But this night was different.
The knots in her stomach were tighter than a sailor's knot. So tight that if they were a physical object, she couldn't imagine hoping to ever untangle them. But even with her nerves about their relationship, there was still a pull inside of her. A deep need to see Kitt. Was it really supposed to be so confusing?
She let her eyes adjust to the dim lighting of the bar as she took in the scene before her. It didn't look like Kitt was there yet but the knot tightened when she noticed Sadler and Cora at the bar. She had no desire to relive their afternoon encounter, especially after her suspicions that Sadler had caused the deep scratch now running the length of her car. There was no way that she could just leave. Not before Kitt arrived, anyway. She'd have to settled for the next best thing- the empty table as far from the bar as possible and crossing her fingers that this would be the thing to go right in an otherwise crappy day.

"...she asked, plotting away ... What are you interested in, Mercouri? Stirring up trouble?"
Cora shook her head quickly. "Nope, no plotting and no trouble-stirring. Mere curiosity, nothing more," she declared. "Gold has an interest in that new bakery, and I like to know why things interest him. Because as far as I can tell, he doesn't have a penchant for puffed pastries. But perhaps it's just another point of profit for him."
She'd noticed Ruby's entry and her subsequent avoidance of their current position at the bar. She glanced back at Marcus and the drink in his hand. "How many more of those before you can apologize to someone sincerely?" she inquired.

"Don't go digging in Gold's garden," he advised. "Even if you're only looking for bottlecaps. All you'll get is dirty."
"How many more of those before you can apologize to someone sincerely?"
"About two ahead of how many I've had at any time," said Marcus. His eyes followed Ruby. The alcohol made him charming. "Although maybe I can think of another way to apologize."

"Although maybe I can think of another way to apologize."
"One that wouldn't get you a drink in the face or another kick in the kneecap?" she asked with an arched eyebrow. "I'm going to say hello. You, stay here."
Drink still in hand, she cautiously approached the table where the red-headed waitress was seated. "Evening, Ruby," Cora began, with as warm a smile as she could muster. "Y'know, I would apologize for the callousness of my friend Marcus this morning but I think we both know that would be an exercise in futility. Anyway, I just wanted to offer my condolences; I heard that your grandmother's in hospital."

Kitt Walker
I stood before the entrance to The Rabbit Hole, one hand rubbing my slightly stubbled chin before I breathed into my hand to check my breath. In my other hand were a bouquet of lillies that I had got earlier for Ruby. I took a deep breath in as I entered The Rabbit Hole which was quickly sapped away as I saw Ruby, even across a room she managed to take my breathe away. I hid the flowers behind my back and slowly made my way over to her completely oblivious as to everything else that was going on in the club. As I approached Ruby I revealed my hand and the bouquet of flowers, "For you mi lady."

"Evening, Ruby,"
At the sound of the voice greeting her, Ruby nearly jumped out of her skin. So engrossed in ignoring the side of the room that housed both the bar and Marcus Sadler, with hopes that the latter would respond in kind, she hadn't noticed Cora's approach to her table.
"Cora," she responded, giving a small nod of welcome. It wasn't that she didn't like Cora- honestly, she didn't really know much about the woman other than she ran the community theater and she had always been nice enough through their limited interactions. But Cora, for whatever reason, had some form of friendship with Sadler and that ran the danger of ruining Ruby's plan of avoidance.
"Y'know, I would apologize for the callousness of my friend Marcus this morning but I think we both know that would be an exercise in futility."
Futility was probably the understatement of the century. More like, 'cold day in hell when pigs sprout wings on the twelfth of never'.
"Anyway, I just wanted to offer my condolences; I heard that your grandmother's in hospital."
"Yes, it's definitely been a less than stellar week for the Lucas women. Dr. Whale had a bright prognosis for her though and she's already back on my case, so she seems to be getting back to normal. Granny's a tough old bird. It'll take more than a heart attack to bring her down." Ruby paused awkwardly, not quite sure how to continue. "Um, thanks by the way. For that super generous tip you left earlier. You really didn't have to."
And then there he was. As if by magic, there was Kitt with another bouquet in hand- briefly Ruby wondered just how much he spent on her in flower purchases alone- looking every bit the gentleman and so handsome that for a second she wasn't certain that she remembered how to breathe. The sudden quickening of her heart drove away the previous doubts clouding her mind, at least for the time being.
"For you mi lady."
"I bet that Moe French is happy that you're single-handedly helping him pay off his flower truck." Lame joke. How was it that Kitt Walker had the capability of taking the normally fairly witty waitress and turning her brain to mush? "They're beautiful," she amended, internally cringing at herself as she took the flowers.

"I bet that Moe French is happy that you're single-handedly helping him pay off his flower truck."
The joke was cringe worthy and I could tell that she had regretted saying it but all I could do was smile and let out a slight chuckle. "Would you prefer some terribly cheesy poetry?" I took a set opposite Ruby and grabbed her hand before I put on a (more then likely) terrible posh British accent "Ruby, come out and play, I have a secret for you today, I think you're pretty, I just wanted you to know." I smiled chessily ending it there for fear of embarrassing Ruby. I turned to Cora and gestured for her to grab a seat. "I'm sorry I hope I didn't interrupt you two?"

Marcus watched as Walker burst in with flowers, and felt something snarl in his stomach as he and Ruby treated each other like Donny and Marie. It was sickening, and he found himself ordering more alcohol. "Struck by what's 'tween her legs," he assured the bartender, who was trying his level best to ignore the lawyer. "Struck in the head, like a spell. No need for it, all this prancing around like apes on display."
He abandoned his drink, which in of itself was unprecedented, and began to make his way toward the group. "If it isn't my three favourite people. The delightful Cora, the....well-known Ruby and..." There was no entry in Marcus' internal glossary. "...Tate."

"Um, thanks by the way. For that super generous tip you left earlier. You really didn't have to."
"Oh, I think I did. People in this town are notoriously tight-fisted, as I've learned from my fundraising campaigns. Plus, I waited my share of tables back in the day, my dear," she confided with a warm smile and a glance at the bouquet-bearing Kitt.
"I'm sorry I hope I didn't interrupt you two?"
"Not at all," Cora replied. "Just inquiring about Ruby's grandmother. I do hope she'll be back on her feet in time for opening night."
"If it isn't my three favourite people. The delightful Cora, the....well-known Ruby and...Tate."
Her smile faltered as she heard Marcus. Hadn't she plainly told him to sit and stay? "Marcus, you know Kitt Walker. He helps out at the school," she cordially explained. "And he and Ruby obviously have things to discuss, and you and I have copyright issues to discuss, so why don't we leave these two alone?" She hooked her arm through his elbow and attempted to spin him back in the direction of the bar.

"If it isn't my three favourite people. The delightful Cora, the....well-known Ruby and...Tate."
So much for turning the day around. Of course Sadler wouldn't miss his chance to try to kick her while she was down. But now that they were out of the professional setting of the diner, she would be damned if she let him.
"And if it isn't my least favorite person- The Marque de Sade."
"Marcus, you know Kitt Walker. He helps out at the school," "And he and Ruby obviously have things to discuss, and you and I have copyright issues to discuss, so why don't we leave these two alone?"
"No, it's okay, Cora. If Marcus has a problem with me, then he may as well be able to express it, right?" Ruby abandoned her seat and crossed her arms over her chest. Somehow, the simple act of standing face to face with him ignited the anger that had been building within her all day. "So what exactly is it, Sadler? The fact that even the 'town slut' won't sleep with you or that she prevented you from luring a naive, innocent girl into your perverted web of sadism?"

It was a small town, people talked, gossiped and some tried to get under your skin more then others. Sadler was one of those people and it was great seeing Ruby sticking up for herself. I took Ruby's hand and tried my best to hide a smile, I usually told the kids that any kind of fighting is wrong whether through actions or words but sticking up for yourself and others is always something I admire and adhere to. The only downside to this was I knew that Marcus would more than likely be getting off on this conflict and do his best to get the upper hand on Ruby. "Ruby, don't give him the satisfaction." I then turned my attention to Marcus but continued talking to Ruby. "IF Mr. Sadler would like to join us then he WILL start showing you some respect and if he wishes pursue his 'web of sadism', well then there are a lot of empty tables around."

"My 'web of sadism'?" laughed Marcus. "That's...wow, that's good. And a girl looking like that won't be innocent for long. Believe me." Marcus fixed his gaze on Ruby, untangling himself from Cora and leaning over the table, palms flat. "You know Ruby, you and I aren't so different. You should respect that," he said in a low voice. "I take what I want too. When you see something you want, don't be so uncertain about taking it. Just...take it."
"Ruby, don't give him the satisfaction. IF Mr. Sadler would like to join us then he WILL start showing you some respect and if he wishes pursue his 'web of sadism', well then there are a lot of empty tables around."
Sadler turned his attention to Kitt. "The fuck are you? Grown-ups are talking, kiddo."

"The fuck are you? Grown-ups are talking, kiddo."
I groaned slightly as Marcus turned his attention to me, first I had to make a deal which will more than likely bite me on the ass now I had to deal with this. Truthfully if he wasn't insulting Ruby I would leave him to his own devices but his blatant disrespect of her needed to be addressed. "Mr. Sadler, Ruby and I are just here to enjoy the night and each others company. The lady doesn't seem to want you around so how about you go back to your table and have another drink on me?" I knew this approach probably wouldn't work but a guy like Sadler could through any approach back in ones face so I took my chances.

"I think that's a fabulous idea," Cora enthused, artfully inserting herself between Marcus and Kitt. "Though probably a club soda for Marcus. I think he's had enough for now. Don't you, darling?" She looked back to Marcus with her best impression of doe eyes. "Do try to be decent for one night, please."

"Do I look like I need my drinks bought for me by some-"
Before he could utter another word, Cora intervened.
"Though probably a club soda for Marcus. I think he's had enough for now. Don't you, darling? Do try to be decent for one night, please."
Marcus didn't know what it was about Cora, but she had an annoying habit of getting him to do things he normally wouldn't. "Cora, no, with the Bambi eyes..." he groaned, briefly closing his eyes and then relenting. "Right, right, right. But you're getting on stage in the next ten minutes."

***Elle arrives from Gabriella's House***
ELLE
Elle pushed open the door of The Rabbit Hole with a little more force than necessary. Just enough to bring attention. Of course, that was the point. Draw attention and the dress would keep their attention. She moved to the bar, making it a point to make eye contact and smile at every male she passed until she found a free spot to lean her back against the bar, propping her elbows up on it as she studied the room and waited for the first free drink to come her way.
"Excuse me," she heard the bartender say above the noise of the karaoke. She turned toward him and flashed him with a smile that had him flustered. He cleared his throat. "This is from the gentleman over there," he said, pointing to a table by the door.
"Thanks," she said, turning toward the table and studying the man. Hm, too much of a good mama's boy for her taste and she bet he wouldn't have the courage to approach her unless she encouraged him. As much as she'd love to toy with him, she wasn't in the mood and so she didn't encourage him. She simply held up the glass in a 'thanks' salute and drank as she continued surveying the room.

BILLY
Billy had drifted along to The Rabbit Hole in hopes of seeing Ruby, but she was already talking to some guy. She was always talking to some guy, and Billy was always firmly in second-place. Even at the bar, he felt a little out-of-place. His clothes weren't the best, he didn't have time to shave since leaving the garage, and he was fairly certain that the dirt under his fingernails was noticeable.
Then in came someone he certainly hadn't seen before. He practically felt his pants get shorter. Billy forced himself to pull his gaze away before he started drooling, which was difficult when it came to someone with such...what was he thinking about?

ELLE
As Elle surveyed the room, she caught a scruffy, sweet looking guy watching her just before he looked away. So sweet and adorable, like a fragile new toy for her to play with that would probably end up broken. She stared at him over the rim of her glass, willing him to look back and as soon as he did, she smiled at him and beckoned him over with a crook of her finger.

BILLY
This was straight-up Twilight Zone, but Billy wasn't complaining. He smiled lightly, allowing his eyes to fall across her with appreciation. "Yeah. Yeah, I do," he said, locking eyes with her.

ELLE
She was impressed that he looked her in the eyes. She assumed he'd shyly be studying his toes as he fumbled to answer but he was brave. This toy was a bit more durable than she'd originally thought. A smile slowly spread across her face. "Aren't you sweet." She ran a finger down his stubbly cheek. "I love that 5 o'clock shadow look. Gives a man an air of danger."
She reached for her glass, pouting down at it's emptiness before placing it back on the bar. It was a clear opening for someone to buy her her next drink and if Billy didn't see it, one of the other men watching her would take the opportunity.
