"You don't have to worry,""I'll leave the using magic part to you." A friendly smile formed on Pan's lips - inwardly more than satisfied with the boy's statement. Though he was quite sure Rumpel's son wouldn't have be interested in using magic anyway. "Do you know where I might find the lamp?", Bae asked.
"I do.", Pan answered, before he continued with a sigh: "Sure you'll ask me now, why I haven't acquired it myself then. Well, the answer is, that I'm not able to enter the place where it's hidden. These boys aren't either.", Pan added, as he thought to see the question formed on Bae's lips, pointing to the Lost Boys, still sleeping in the treehouses. "But you", Pan said with a smile. "might be able to."

"I do." Well that's a surprise. If Pan knows where it is, then why...? "Sure you'll ask me now, why I haven't acquired it myself then. Well, the answer is, that I'm not able to enter the place where it's hidden. These boys aren't either." Well that's weird. What kind of place won't let people in? A magic place no doubt. "But you might be able to." Now he's starting to wonder. Why can't the others get in? Why might Bae be able to? It doesn't really make that much sense. What is different about him?
"Why me?"

"Why me?"
Of course Pan was awaiting this question, actually worked towards it. "Because you have something special, Baelfire.", he responded, making some steps in the boy's direction. "Something, which maybe some of us once had, maybe not." He let a stagily pause follow his words, before he continued. "Unbiasedness. Like a diamond in the rough." Pan gave him an elating smile. He was pretty sure, that this boy had what he needed. That he was allowed to enter the cave of wonders. And so he finally would get this damn lamp - with the damn Genie in it. One wish was enough to make the sand-timer stop and to get immortality.

"Because you have something special, Baelfire." Him? Special? That doesn't sound very likely. "Something, which maybe some of us once had, maybe not." He shifts a bit as Pan pauses. What could he be talking about. "Unbiasedness. Like a diamond in the rough." Pan smiles at him but Bae only frowns. He doesn't really see himself as unbiased. But maybe Pan sees something in him he can't see in himself. At the very least it's worth a try.
"Alright," he states, letting Pan know he understands. "So, where do I need to go and what do I need to do?" He is ready to get this mission going. He is ready to help out Pan. And most importantly, he is ready to go home.

"Alright,""So, where do I need to go and what do I need to do?"
Pan couldn't resist to show a grin. He actually could have started to like this boy... If he wouldn't have known his fate to probably fail the mission. Sure Pan was hopeful, that he finally has found someone unbiased enough to obtain the lamp. That he finally has found the diamond in the rough. But how many boys had tried already? Well, too many to count. But it was at least worth a try, as long as he don't find the truest believer.
"Unfortunately I can't give you the exact location.", Pan lastly answered regrettingly. "But I've got this map." Well-prepared as he was, Pan put it out of his pocket, holding it out to Baelfire and watching him studying it. The map was quite hard to understand. Instead of showing the cave's location, it seemed to show only riddles, which probably in the end led to it. Again a grin was formed in the corner of Pan's mouth. What a game would be like without some obstacles in the way? "I hope you make sense of it.", he added with an innocent look.

"Unfortunately I can't give you the exact location." What? But he'd said he knew where it was. That makes no sense. "But I've got this map." Oh, a map. That makes a bit more sense but it's still a bit suspicious that he didn't say that earlier. Bae takes the map reluctantly but soon forgets his hesitance as he pours over the map To be honest he loves a good challenge, and this is definitely one. It was full of riddles and such and Bae found himself looking forward to the challenge of solving the riddles himself. "I hope you make sense of it." But that's when the feeling of distrust comes back. As much as he's looking forward to the challenge...
"Can't the rest of you help decipher the map?" Pan had only said that getting into the place was impossible for them. Now he's possibly saying that Bae has to figure out the map on his own too? It all just seems rather suspicious. And as much as he's looking forward to working out the challenge, the faster it's solved the faster he can go home. He just wants to know why none of the others can help him with this part, because at the moment it doesn't make any sense at all.

"Can't the rest of you help decipher the map?", Baelfire suddenly asked. What a clever boy. Of course Pan was able to help him deciphering the map. He was at last the one who made it. But why would he? Inwardly he grinned. This was all part of their little game. Wouldn't it be boring to just take the boy to the exact location? In addition, if he wasn't able to find it himself, then he also wouldn't be able to open it.
"So, you don't make sense of it, either?", Pan asked in a disappointed way and let a deep sigh follow his words. "I hoped you would, as you seem to be a really clever boy. We tried to decipher it on our own, but we're pretty bad at riddles. Look here..." Maintaining the innocent, he pointed at a written line on the map in Baelfire's hands.
You cannot see me, hear me, or touch me. I lie behind the stars and alter what is real, I am what you really fear.
"Do you have any idea?", Pan asked helplessly. "I'm also not sure how the answer could show the way, as there is no mark on this map nor a way to go." This was only the first step, the warm-up.

"So, you don't make sense of it, either?" "I hoped you would, as you seem to be a really clever boy. We tried to decipher it on our own, but we're pretty bad at riddles. Look here..." Not good a riddles? The man who his father swore was dangerous and who seemed to be in charge of an entire island couldn’t solve riddles? Sure Bae has heard that some kings are pretty stupid, but whether his father was lying about the danger or not he can’t see someone the Dark One called dangerous as being an idiot. He frowns then as he looks to the riddle Pan is pointing too. He is starting to distrust this guy more and more, but he tries to keep that hidden. There is no use in letting an enemy know you’re on to them after all. Instead he looks down at the riddle, concentrating on it.
You cannot see me, hear me, or touch me. I lie behind the stars and alter what is real, I am what you really fear.
"Do you have any idea?" Pan asks too quickly for Bae to really have an answer ready. "I'm also not sure how the answer could show the way, as there is no mark on this map nor a way to go."
“Give me a second,” he says as he frowns down at the written words in concentration. After all they should work on discovering the answer to the riddle first and then figure out what the answer meant later. What you really fear. What Bae really fears is magic but that doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the riddle. After all, Bae has seen and heard plenty of magic, and there is no evidence that magic lies behind the stars. Wendy had said that science was behind the stars and space, so that ruled out magic. Wendy said space was behind the stars, but Bae doesn’t really know anyone who was just afraid of space, and space certainly didn’t alter reality.
He runs a hand through his hair as he thinks. What else does he fear? The Dark Curse for sure. Wait. Dark. The dark! You can’t really see darkness and you certainly can’t hear or touch it. Blackness, or darkness, is all you can see behind stars, almost everyone is afraid of it, and it changes your perception of reality. “It could be darkness,” he tells Pan then before frowning. He’d had a bit of trouble with that but not too much. Surely Pan could have come up with that. He shifts his thoughts though, refusing to let Pan know he doesn’t trust him. “But where would we go? Darkness isn’t exactly a place?” Hopefully Pan will think that’s why he was frowning. If Bae’s suspicions are right and Pan finds out about them, he could be in serious danger. Hopefully he can trick the guy for long enough to see whether or not his suspicions are well founded. Because if they are, it doesn’t matter how much Bae hates the idea of magic. He’ll use the object to get him without Pan’s help.

“Give me a second,”
Pan watched the boy wordless brooding over the riddle. Sure this one was pretty easy to solve, but it was the first anyway and he didn't want to get Baelfire unmotivated too early. So he made a hopeful look while waiting.
“It could be darkness,”, Baelfire spoke up after some minutes. Pan let a surprised expression flying over his face. “But where would we go? Darkness isn’t exactly a place?”, the boy added frowning.
"So my guess was right after all.", Pan said with a look at the map in Baelfire's hands. "But I wondered about the same actually." The boy shouldn't get the idea that he was some kind of moron or even making him distrust. "Above all because the map seems to show almost the whole area of the island.", he added, making himself sounding as thoughtfully as possible. "But no way or mark. Nothing but this riddle... hm.." Inwardly he was waiting for the boy to come up with the answer, Pan already knew of course.

"So my guess was right after all." So he had made a guess. Which didn't explain why he hadn't told Bae what his guess was, but he supposed that didn't matter. He might have just wanted to get a second opinion to check himself against. So Bae let it slide. For now. "But I wondered about the same actually." "Above all because the map seems to show almost the whole area of the island." "But no way or mark. Nothing but this riddle... hm.." Bae almost sighed aloud. He didn't know the island at all. How was he supposed to figure out where to go?
"Maybe we have to go somewhere at night," he suggested, really just throwing out random ideas. "Or go somewhere that's dark all the time, like a cave." Pan really should know this more than Bae would. He sighed as he looked at the map. "Wait," he said, seizing on an idea. "You said the map shows almost all of the island. What part doesn't it show?" Because that part would be 'dark' on the map. So maybe they were supposed to go there. But really, Pan was the one who knew the island, and if anyone would know where to go it would be him.

Pan didn't let himself get bothered by Baelfire's impatience. This was part of the game anyway. And not only of the game, but Pan had to find out if the boy was clever enough to find out the things on his own. Because if he wasn't, he would be useless for him anyway. He wouldn't manage to find the cave of wonders and above all the lamp.
"Maybe we have to go somewhere at night," Hmm. "Or go somewhere that's dark all the time, like a cave." Oh, that's a start at least. Pan was waiting in silence, waiting for Baelfire to come up with the answer. "Wait,", the boy then suddenly called out. Could it be he found it? "You said the map shows almost all of the island. What part doesn't it show?" Bingo! First Part solved.
"Hm, let me see.", Pan mumbled with a look at the map on his own. Wait some seconds. "It could be!", Pan then finally said something in return, a surprised look on his face, like a revelation had come up to him. "There is a place on the island called Dark Hollow. I can't see it on this map. Well, even if it's not the place the object is hidden, you could maybe find out more about it there." Pan had a soft pleading look at Baelfire, though inwardly it was a devilish grin. As if the cave of wonders would be there, tzzz. But what would be a game without some obstacles, hm? Pan anyway knew the exact location of the cave, just needed the diamond in the rough to open it.

"Hm, let me see." "It could be!""There is a place on the island called Dark Hollow. I can't see it on this map. Well, even if it's not the place the object is hidden, you could maybe find out more about it there." Dark Hollow? Really? And the other boy hadn't made the connection? He couldn't stop himself from frowning ever so slightly. How long had Pan had the map, exactly? Maybe something on the island messed with everyone's brains.
"Can't some of you come with me?" he asked, confused. Why would he have to go alone? Going in a group made a bit more sense. Especially since he didn't know the island. Yeah, he was trusting Pan less and less by the minute. And having trouble concealing that, which wasn't exactly a good thing. But Dark Hollow? Come one. Surly Pan would have seen that one.

"Can't some of you come with me?"
Pan didn't like the way Baelfire was looking at him. It seemed the boy was even more distrustful than he thought. If he didn't come up with something plausible, he'll maybe loose his token. Hm, so why not with the truth? Or at least... with parts of it. Well, not without changing some little details of course. Where would be the fun?
Pan let out a sigh. "I'm sorry about it, Baelfire, but I haven't told you everything.", he lastly admitted with a caught expression, before he took a seat on one of the tree stubs around. Pan even didn't look up on the I knew it look Baelfire had on his face for sure now. "There is a reason I asked especially you to help me with this." Another sigh. A pause. Playing the ashamed one was kinda funny, something new for him though. "Remember I told you about lost something, which allows me to leave the island? Well, the truth is, I was taken in by someone stolen it from me. He used magic to hide it and to make it impossible for Neverland's residents to find it. That affects actually all of us... except of you, Baelfire." Pan came up with a hopeful look. This talk should raise the boy's trust a little. And if not, he at least wouldn't ask for too much details any more, as Pan knew how much the boy hated magic. Inwardly a grin appeared on his lips. "You haven't been long enough on the island to become a part of it, so it's worth a try. Well,", Pan added, raised up from the tree and approached the boy. "You want to leave Neverland and I want to get back the object to make it possible for both of us. There is no reason to deceive you, am I right?" And if all of the talk couldn't wake up the boy's trust, this last sentence should.
