***ONE WEEK BDC*** They had brought her here some time ago. Belle didn't know just when. Time was a difficult thing to keep track of here. The darkness provided few clues to time of day, passing seasons...could it have been years since she last felt the cool air of evening in The Enchanted Forest? At first, she fought. Day after day, looking for a way out. A way back to life. A way back to him... She would never stop fighting for him. Not now. Not ever. But her bars were reinforced. The locks replaced with iron padlocks, unable to be picked. Each chance was taken from her so that now all she had left was to sit vigilantly and hope for a change. Pray for just one opportunity that would take her back into the sunshine, far from this place... It would be soon. She had barely seen anyone as of late. Not even Queen Regina, who always took great delight in gloating to her prisoner. There was something happening. Something big to keep Regina from sharing what Belle very well knew must be deceitful tales... Not much longer...not much longer... She would keep believing. The Evil Queen would not take that from her. "I'm coming back, Rumpel."

Grumpy was sitting in the corner of the dungeon, they had brought him some hours ago. Everything because of his big mouth and maybe a little too much of alcohol. Otherwise was it worth it, thinking about how often he wanted to tell that damn Evil Queen the truth right into her face. Well, it was worth it, as long as he was only sitting in this filthy dungeon, but would it still be after they found some time to execute him? Probably not...
Grumpy could already see Snow's stern look, when she finds a way to get him out of here. He was sure, that she will try, though he rather would like she won't. This was his fault. Or maybe this would have happened anyway, alcohol and a big mouth or not, as the Evil Queen was known for taking every chance to get Snow White.
"I'm coming back, Rumpel.", a woman's voice let him suddenly rouse from his thoughts.
"Rumpel?!", Grumpy couldn't bite back a reaction. This person seemed to be fully out of her mind. Probably a longtime jailbird. How long will it take to face the fate for him? He rather got it over and done quickly, instead of loosing his mind like this poor sister. With a short bitter laugh he leaned his head back to the dungeon's wall. "Oh man, this is gonna be great..."

"Rumpel?!", "Oh man, this is gonna be great..."
The voice startled Belle, so much so that she didn't think to be offended by it's obvious mocking of her words. Quickly she stood and looked around. No guards stood outside. The Evil Queen had taken to posting them much farther from the cells. That only left one possibility. Taking a few steps towards the adjoining cell, she called out softly, "Is someone in there?"
Unless she was losing her mind, they must have brought another prisoner in while she was asleep. It didn't happen often. Not that Regina didn't keep many prisoners- Belle could often hear their cries for mercy echoing from other unseen areas of the dungeon. But never had that adjoining cell been filled. Until now. A slight movement in the shadows assured her that it was not just a trick of her mind but an actual person. "Please, I won't hurt you. It would just be nice to have someone to talk to."

"Is someone in there?"
The woman's voice let him look up again. It was too dark in here to see more than a silhouette though.
"Please, I won't hurt you. It would just be nice to have someone to talk to."
A short bitter laugh escaped his lips. "You think I'd fear to get hurt? Sister, we're in the Evil Queen's damn dungeon." With a quite hiss Grumpy's head leaned back at the wall again, closing his eyes for a moment. What would be the good of this? Doing smalltalk with someone, who probably will be next on the Evil Queen's execution list...

"You think I'd fear to get hurt? Sister, we're in the Evil Queen's damn dungeon."
"Yes, I suppose any fear wouldn't be of those in these cells." It had been a rather silly thing to say, in retrospect. How could she possibly hurt anyone while surrounded by the barred walls? But the ridiculous trope, meant to put one at ease when often it did just the opposite, had come out of habit. Not phased by the gruff tone of the man's voice, Belle pressed on in her eagerness to break the silence that for so long defined her prison. Her voice was gentle as she spoke, maybe even a little hoarse from disuse as she soon realized. "Why are you here?"
She had reached the bars separating the two cells but still could not see her companion's face, shrouded in the darkness of the far corner. Not receiving an answer right away, she continued speaking. "I've been here for such a long time, there are moments when I forget why. I always dreamt of heroics...I never imagined that they would end quite like this."

"Why are you here?", Grumpy heard the woman asking with a hoarse sounding voice, accompanied by the sound of her careful steps coming closer.
Though it was dark, the shadow of her approaching figure made him look up.
"I've been here for such a long time, there are moments when I forget why. I always dreamt of heroics...I never imagined that they would end quite like this.", she continued without waiting for an answer.
There was something about her evoking a memory. Like she was reminding him of a person he once met. "Indulging yourself in dreams is just a waste of time, I tell ya, sister.", Grumpy dodged her question, this time at least turned around in the woman's direction, whose face still was laying in the dark of the cell.

"Indulging yourself in dreams is just a waste of time, I tell ya, sister.",
With those thoughts, the man turned towards her. In the dim light of the cell, she could just make out the features of his face. "Not always. There are bumps in the road but life is so much more when you follow your dreams." She still believed it. Even if her dreams of adventure landed her in this cell. It was just one of those bumps that would pass and make the journey all the sweeter when she arrived at her destination. Rumple.
She paused, her eyes searching the barely lit face in the adjoining cell. There was something about it, like a long ago memory. But the darkness obscuring him made it difficult to pinpoint. "Do we know each other?" She drew a breath and shook her head, "I'm sorry, that must sound strange. There's just something very familiar about you and I can't place it. Could we have met before?"

"Not always. There are bumps in the road but life is so much more when you follow your dreams."
Grumpy let out a hissing sound. Following dreams doesn't lead you to more than a dead end, seemingly even in the true sense of the word regarding to this woman. As silence was filling the air, Grumpy thought to hear an echo of her words in his head. He once heard someone telling him something similiar.
"Do we know each other?", the woman in the cell next to him suddenly broke the silence and confirmed his suspicion. "I'm sorry, that must sound strange. There's just something very familiar about you and I can't place it. Could we have met before?"
"You've told me to live my dreams.", Grumpy responded, recognizing the woman from the bar. The woman, induced him to risk everything for love. And where did that advice lead him to? But of course it wasn't her fault, nor it was his. The try was worth it, though it made his dreams die down. But it made him who he was. "But well, see what happened?", he continued with the usual grumpy sounding voice of his.

"You've told me to live my dreams." "But well, see what happened?"
Belle tilted her head to the side. She remembered. In her mind, she could see the crowded tavern, hear the uproarious laughter of its customers...and in the middle of it all, one hopeful dwarf realizing he was in love. But this gruff man before her, he couldn't be... "Dreamy?
Her voice was incredulous, her eyes wide at the change. It seems that after that night, things had not gone as planned for either of them. What had happened to the optimistic young dwarf who'd been planning to run away with his true love?
Despite the physical and emotional changes...he was here. This man from her past, whom she'd last seen in freedom, was here in front of her now. An unexpected wave of mixed emotion rushed over her and her voice dropped to a quiet whisper as she confirmed what she already knew, "Dreamy, is that really you?"

Jiminy
*enter with Red from Queen Regina's Kingdom - The Dark Palace*
He fluttered after her, and when they reached another fork in the road, she chose the left path. He followed, trusting her instincts much more than his own. Sure enough, soon they’d entered a room, that was still very dark. But it was obviously a prison.
"Dreamy, is that really you?" someone asked. There were people down here, and perhaps Grumpy was one of them.
“Hello?” he called out quietly into the room, trying not to startle the woman too badly. “My name’s Jiminy. We’re here to rescue Grumpy. He’s a dwarf. But, we’ll help you too.” He and Red weren’t the sort to leave someone behind. Especially not someone who desperately needed their help. “Have you met a Grumpy?” He hoped so, it would be so much easier to rescue him once they knew where he was.

For a moment silence was filling the dungeon and Grumpy started to wonder, if the woman still was interested in a conversation, as he suddenly heard her calling out a name. A name, which once had been more than familiar to him.
"Dreamy?""Dreamy, is that really you?"
Just as Grumpy was about to deny the question as for the name, another voice was interrupting them. A familiar voice.
“Hello?”“My name’s Jiminy. We’re here to rescue Grumpy. He’s a dwarf. But, we’ll help you too.”“Have you met a Grumpy?”
Gee! It was Jiminy, the cricket. It really was. Grumpy has awaited to never see the others again. Before Belle could have reacted to his friend's words, Grumpy answered instead. "Right here.", he said in a monotone way. "Glad to see ya, but I really hope, you didn't brought Snow with you.", he added with a stricter sounding voice. She really shouldn't risk to get killed by the Evil Queen, just to rescue him. On the other side he doubted that Jiminy did went out for a rescue mission all by himself. At least it was what Grumpy was hoping for.

Dreamy did not get the opportunity to answer before a small, soft voice seemed to float through the air. “Hello?” Surprised, Belle's eyes searched for the owner of the kind voice but she could not make out anyone on the other side of the bars. That was peculiar. “My name’s Jiminy. We’re here to rescue Grumpy. He’s a dwarf. But, we’ll help you too.” “Have you met a Grumpy?”
Grumpy. She looked back at the adjoining cell at the surly dwarf, her heart heavy for him. Did he feel his pain so deeply that it changed who he was? Confirming her suspicions, the gruff voice sounded from beside her, "Right here."
At his confirmation, the sound of fluttering wings and a small creature appeared by the bars of the cell. It was a fairly large cricket. Her astonishment held her tongue as Dreamy continued, "Glad to see ya, but I really hope, you didn't brought Snow with you."
A growl from the darkness was his response. If Belle didn't know any better, she would have sworn that it sounded annoyed. And then something else emerged from the shadows. Two bright yellow eyes. Then the largest wolf that Belle had ever seen. It should have terrified her but the was something about this wolf. There was something in those eyes that almost seemed...intelligent? Not just the intelligence of an animal but the kind of intelligence one would find in a human being.
Something else caught Belle's attention. Something Dreamy had said. "Snow? Do you mean Snow White?"

As soon as they entered the chamber, even before they heard the woman's voice, Red knew that Grumpy was not alone. She could hear her heartbeat. But whether she would be friend or foe remained to be seen so Red stayed to the shadows as Jiminy continued forward.
“Hello?” “My name’s Jiminy. We’re here to rescue Grumpy. He’s a dwarf. But, we’ll help you too.” “Have you met a Grumpy?”
It was Grumpy. Red knew that smell anywhere. And anyway, from her vantage point now she could see him clearly. But she continued to let Jiminy speak as she sat back and examined his cellmate- a young woman probably about her own age. She seemed dirty, underneath it her fair complexion even paler than Red surmised it normally was. She had been there for much longer than their companion. Despite it, there was a warmth in her expression.
"Glad to see ya, but I really hope, you didn't brought Snow with you."
Of course we didn't bring Snow with us. We aren't idiots walking her right into the Queen's clutches. As she was unable to say it out loud, Red growled lowly in response knowing that Grumpy would get the message. Then, satisfied that the new woman would be trustworthy enough, she walked into the light. They would need to move quickly to get them out of the cells. There was only a small window of time before the changing of the guard. Without a sound, Red began to search for the key.

Jiminy
"Right here.", "Glad to see ya, but I really hope, you didn't brought Snow with you." Red answered for them with a deep growl at Grumpy’s words.
“It’s just me and Red,” he answered the dwarf. Snow, had she tried to come, would have been stopped. It was too dangerous for her to be sneaking into the Evil Queen’s castle. No, it was just Red, and him. The cricket who was, for the most part, absolutely useless. Although, he wasn’t about to be. He could figure out how to open these cages, he was sure of it. The locks really didn’t look to complicated; not after the ones his parents had taught him to pick.
"Snow? Do you mean Snow White?"
“Yes, Snow White,” Jiminy confirmed. “She’s the one who sent us here, to find Grumpy.” Speaking of … “We’re going to get you both out. Do you know where they keep the keys?” If they were too far away, or Grumpy and Belle didn’t know, he might have to do something he hadn’t done in a very long time; pick the lock. He hoped it wouldn’t come to that, but if it did, then he would do it. They needed their freedom, and he would make sure they got it.

Instead of an answer a deep growl, almost sounding annoyed, followed his question. Grumpy already had an idea where it came from, as a pair of bright yellow eyes were showing in the darkness. Though the dwarf knew about her secret, an odd feeling went through his veins, seeing Red in her wolf form. But Snow once had reassured them, that Red was able to be fully in control of it nowadays. And so Grumpy took the growl as a positive reaction. Of course they wouldn't bring Snow here. The question anyway was meant to be Snow was hopefully clever enough to not insist on coming with you?.
“It’s just me and Red,”, their little cricket friend lastly confirmed.
"Snow? Do you mean Snow White?", the woman in the neighbor cell suddenly drew his attention, while the wolf started to search for something. “Yes, Snow White,”, Jiminy answered to her instead. “She’s the one who sent us here, to find Grumpy.”“We’re going to get you both out. Do you know where they keep the keys?”
A harsh laughter left Grumpy's lips, looking back at the cricket again. "Do we look like we would know? ... So, don't ya have another trick to open the cells?", he added with a joyless smile, grabbing at the bars.

Jiminy
"Do we look like we would know? ... So, don't ya have another trick to open the cells?" He would have to do it. He’d avoided picking locks for the entire time he’d been a cricket, but now it seemed to be a necessity.
“I do have another trick,” he informed them, quieter than he’d spoken the first few times, as he fingered his umbrella. It was about the right size to fit into the lock, he should be able to use it to get into the cells. He hoped he could forgive himself for this. He flew closer to Grumpy’s cell, and started working on the lock. The umbrella fit perfectly. It was going to take a bit of time, he was out of practice and wasn’t used to his tool being so large in comparison to himself. Still, he instantly knew he was going to be able to do it. “I should have you out soon,” he reassured the dwarf, still fiddling with the lock and trying to ignore that he was, yet again, using his thieving skills. He could feel guilty about that later.

“We’re going to get you both out."
Both out. That was what Jiminy said but Belle could hardly believe her ears. Was she dreaming? Was this some wonderful dream that she was about to awake from, just as alone and trapped as she had been for years? She resisted the urge to pinch herself, as if it were a dream, she had no desire to wake.
While the little cricket stuck his tiny umbrella into the lock on Dreamy- er, Grumpy's - prison, the large wolf returned and seemed to take an appraisal of the scene. She almost looked...relieved that Jiminy had found another way to open the lock. It was not surprising to Belle. The wolf must have been searching for the keys to the cells but Belle rarely ever saw them, even when the guards happened by. It would have been nothing short of a miracle if Red had managed to find them.
It was rather amazing, watching Jiminy work. Belle couldn't help but wonder how a cricket learned to open locks like that. She was about to ask when Red's ears perked up and she let out a barely audible growl before approaching the connecting hall. Belle's breath caught in her throat. Something was wrong.

Grumpy watched his little cricket friend stucking his tiny umbrella into the lock. A doubtful expression lay on the dwarf's face, even though he knew Jiminy's abilities were not to be underestimated. And so it had to be this time. Fully concentrated and with all his dexterity the cricket was about to open the first cell, as a barely audible growl came from the wolf behind, Red.
"What is it?", Grumpy asked, maybe a little bit too loud, even though he thought it would come out as a whisper. A sheepish smile followed his question, disappeared when he had a look at Red's alarmed face.

He tried to block everything out, focusing solely on the feel of the lock. His umbrella felt unwieldy in this situation, but he was able to make it work. Jiminy had almost managed to unlock it when he heard Red’s growl. He froze, almost dropping his umbrella and losing all his work, but he managed to keep ahold of it.
"What is it?" Grumpy’s voice seemed to boom in his ears, yet Jiminy did his best to ignore the dwarf. He needed to focus and unlock the cage. He could figure out what was going on afterward, but he couldn’t afford to lose his progress due to whatever Red had smelled. He took a deep breath, before moving his umbrella again, and finally heard that satisfying click as the lock sprung open.
“You’re free,” he informed Grumpy, before turning to face Red, and using his ears to listen to the hallway, not the lock. He didn’t hear anything, yet, but by the way she was standing, someone was coming. “I’ll hurry,” he said, not willing to give up on Belle just yet as he zoomed over. If the guards were as close as Red seemed to believe, the chance was small that he’d be able to break Belle out in time. But Jiminy had to try.

Someone was coming. Five, maybe six guards judging by the different scents. More than would be on a normal patrol of the dungeons. It wouldn't take them long to reach this block of cells. Silently cursing to herself, Red knew that they had been found out. A patrol that size she could handle but once she realized who she was dealing with, The Evil Queen wouldn't be far behind. They didn't have a choice, they needed to get out.
She rushed from her post at the bend in the corridor and returned to the group, where Jiminy was frantically working on the lock of the woman's cell. But it was pointless. Regretfully, Red realized that they were not going to be able to free her. Urgently she gave another soft growl, moving away from the cell towards the hall they'd entered from. They needed to go. Their time was up.
A heartbroken realization washed over the woman's face, one that Red was certain the other two had not seen. It was quickly replaced by a brave determination. "Go. Please go," she urged, first to Jiminy and then to the dwarf, "You must get yourselves out. It will do no good to any of us if they catch you."
She was right. Still the thought of leaving the woman behind, in the clutches of that horrible witch... It made Red's blood boil.

He heard Red’s growl, but tried to ignore it. He could do it, all he needed was a little more time. Just a little … "Go. Please go," "You must get yourselves out. It will do no good to any of us if they catch you."
She was right. Jiminy knew she was right, and while it wouldn’t be that hard for him to find a hiding spot and pick the lock at a later date, he knew the woman wouldn’t be able to get out with just his aid. She wouldn’t stand a chance fighting the guards alone, and there was nowhere for Red or Leroy to hide and wait until the guards disappeared. If only he had more time. But, unfortunately, he didn’t.
“I’ll come back for you, if I can,” he promised as he removed his umbrella from her lock. “We will find a way to save you.” Snow and Charming wouldn’t let an innocent woman rot in the Evil Queen’s prison. They would find a way to free her, whether it be another stealth operation, or when they defeated Regina once and for all. She wouldn’t stay a prisoner forever. Jiminy would never allow that, and he was certain Red and Leroy wouldn’t, either.

With a click the lock of his cell sprung open.
“You’re free,”, Jiminy said to him, before the cricket turned to face Red too. “I’ll hurry,” And with these words Jiminy drew his attention back at the celldoor next to him, trying to free Belle. Grumpy's eyes didn't leave the alarmed wolf returning, while he made slowly steps out of the cell. He noticed something in its face, even though it seemed hided behind a mask. And Grumpy thought to know what it was... No! He won't let the woman, who had once tried to help a stranger, a blind man named Dreamy, behind.
"Go. Please go,""You must get yourselves out. It will do no good to any of us if they catch you."
Grumpy's face darkened.
“I’ll come back for you, if I can,”“We will find a way to save you.”, he yet heard the cricket say, followed by the noise his little umbrella made by removing it from the lock of Belle's cell.
"NO!", Grumpy suddenly snapped at him, as quite as it was possible in his sudden anger about the turned situation. "Continue trying! It's almost done, I know it!" Deep inside the dwarf knew he wasn't right and that they didn't have enough time, before the guards and probably the Evil Queen herself will reach the dungeons. But he just didn't want it to be like that! "Try!", he repeated in a hurry, while facing the woman behind the bars with a sad look.

"NO!", "Continue trying! It's almost done, I know it!" "Try!",
Dreamy was still in there, somewhere buried deep inside. She could see it in that moment. The moment they all knew that she would have to stay behind. The cricket assured her that they would return and on some level, Belle truly believed him. But the Queen had been planning something, something big and Belle had the feeling that her rescue would not come to pass so quickly. So she turned to the dwarf, to the one connection she had with her past. She reached out a hand to grasp his. "Dreamy- please. You need to go help Snow White. I will be here, I promise. Come back for me but right now you need to escape this place and help her. It's the only way."
Belle didn't know if that was true. But in her gut, she believed it. She knew how much Regina hated the young princess. She had told her so. It had to be the only way to stop her. "Dreamy. Please."
A look akin to respect filled the wolf's eyes. Belle thought that she could quite agree with her. But their time was now up.

"NO!", "Continue trying! It's almost done, I know it!" "Try!"
Jiminy couldn’t blame Grumpy for wanting him to try again. He wanted nothing more than to try and free Belle himself. They just didn’t have the time. Regina’s guards would be here any second, and they’d all be captured; if they were lucky. Jiminy had the feeling they’d consider Red too much of a threat to keep alive, and Grumpy and him might be labeled as ‘unneeded’ as well. Belle was right; they had to leave now, and try again another day.
"Dreamy- please. You need to go help Snow White. I will be here, I promise. Come back for me but right now you need to escape this place and help her. It's the only way." "Dreamy. Please."
“Grumpy, we’ll come back,” Jiminy reassured him. “We’ll come back as soon as we can. But right now, we have to go.” Grumpy would see the truth in what they were saying. They simply didn’t have enough time. But, Jiminy was certain the three of them wouldn’t forget Belle. They’d work tirelessly to find a way to save her.

Suddenly the soft touch of a hand grasped his.
"Dreamy- please. You need to go help Snow White. I will be here, I promise. Come back for me but right now you need to escape this place and help her. It's the only way."
The dwarf looked at her indecisive. He knew the young woman was right about no time left to safe her as well. He damn knew it. And that was the worst. Grumpy stood stone still for a moment, fighting an inner war.
“Grumpy, we’ll come back,”, he heard Jiminy right behind. “We’ll come back as soon as we can. But right now, we have to go.”
But what if there won't be any as soon as they can?
"Dreamy. Please.", Belle again called for him insistently.
"Darn it...", Grumpy suddenly cursed quietly into his beard, looking at the bars who blocked her way to freedom. His inner war was over. It just wasn't clear if he has won it. "I won't leave ya in the witches' hands forever, I swear." Grumpy hated himself for letting off her hand and turning around to the strict look of the wolf. Or maybe it wasn't strict. It was the face of a wolf actually. "Let's go.", he said with a somehow bitter sound in his voice. He even wasn't able to look back at Belle one last time, as he felt ashamed.

The tension was in the air as the woman spoke to Grumpy, spouting brave wisdom despite her precarious situation. If she could have, the wolf would have smiled as the woman's spirit somewhat reminded her of Snow. No wonder she'd found herself in the Evil Queen's dungeons.
Relief filled her when Grumpy finally began to move for the tunnel. She'd not been looking forward to it but she was not above grabbing the dwarf by the leg and dragging him out behind them. Red fell back, sending both Grumpy and Jiminy out to lead while she covered them. She couldn't help but glance back at the woman, whose brave facade had fallen in her presumed solitude. Her shoulders were hunched, a look of despair masking her pretty features. It was in that moment that Red's resolve strengthened.
They would absolutely return to rescue her. Red knew for a fact that Snow and Charming would be in agreement of that. It wasn't a matter of if. It was when.
Quickly Red entered the tunnels, leaving the woman behind.

Regina couldn't afford to have anything go wrong, not now. She would be casting the curse soon and everything needed to be perfect. She would finally get her happy ending, no matter what she would get her happiness, even if anyone had to be miserable.
It didn't take long for her to hear about the breakout of the dwarf, "Find him and the ones responsible for this, go!" She yelled at the guards and turned to the cell. "You could have escaped but here you are, why stay when you could have escaped with the dwarf?"

Belle stared at the rough stone floor, her expression blank and defeated. Freedom had been within her grasp. So near that for a moment, she'd thought her plight had ended. Yet it was not to be.
Once upon a time, tears might have sprung to her eyes at the hopelessness of her situation. But those tears had dried out over the time of her incarceration and now only a vague, searing emptiness remained. It was these moments when believing in a future free from the Evil Queen's clutches was much harder.
"Find him and the ones responsible for this, go!"
As if summoned by her thoughts, the voice of the Queen herself echoed through the labyrinth of the dungeon. Belle's gaze remained glued to the floor, certain that the rescue party was long gone and not in the mood to interact with the woman.
That also seemed not to be.
"You could have escaped but here you are, why stay when you could have escaped with the dwarf?"
Not lifting her eyes, Belle replied in low sardonic tone, "Why escape when I have such fine accommodations here?"

"Why escape when I have such fine accommodations here?" Regina was rather amused with Belle's tone, but she couldn't understand why she wouldn't escape with the others. She obviously saw the ones who broke in and took the dwarf, so why didn't she go with them? Perhaps she didn't care for the company?
"Who broke the dwarf out, who was involved- names if you please."
