The dress code. Yes Marius tried to stay abreast with the practices of their fellow schools. And it was as true in Hogwarts as it was in Ilvermorny. "Yes my dear Emily that is the way of it. And here at Hogwarts the girls do have that option, though few take the opportunity." He leaned forward slightly in his chair and fixed the young student with a firm but friendly expression. Not unlike the glances he often caught the portrait of Albus giving him...
"If that is what made you happy in your previous school then whatever makes you feel most at home. There are approved slacks that will match your robes nicely. We wouldn't want you to feel uncomfortable while you are adjusting to your new life here." Ogden knew he was only just beginning to break the surface of Emily, there was something about those eyes that tugged at him. And there wasn't much that he had trouble recalling...

"If that is what made you happy in your previous school then whatever makes you feel most at home. There are approved slacks that will match your robes nicely. We wouldn't want you to feel uncomfortable while you are adjusting to your new life here." Sirius exhaled relieved. And Corvus croaked as if he wanted to give his approval. „Haha, you´ve to excuse him. It´s all new to him, too.“ He patted the ravens head. „Do ya hear it, my friend?! We´re at our new home now!“ The student smiled – and if an animal could smile Corvus also did.
„Oh, there is one more question, Mr.Ogden. Could you please told me which house I´m going to be part of? I wanna stow my baggage away.“ It seemed like he had just his bagpack, but this was no ordinary bag – it was occupied with an Extension Charm. He carried enough clothes or whatever else with him he would need in the next month.
Suddenly he grinned broadly, his voice sounded a bit euphoric. „And can I become member of a Quidditch-Team?! My father teached me a lot. I´m a good Seeker. Or a Hunter...“ Sirius disrupted himself because he noticed that he ran off at the mouth. Poor headmaster.

He laughed a hearty laugh, "Yes I am sure we can make some arrangements for you to try out for the Quidditch Team. I do not personally have a say in who plays but with your background I think they would be happy to have you." Marius lifted his wand at that point and started gesturing with a swish and flick. The sorting hat started to levitate and floated from its perch to right over top of Emily's head.
"Ah! They say two heads are better than one but two minds is the exception to that rule if you ask me," bellowed the dusty old hat as it sprang to life before even making contact. It then rather unceremoniously plopped down into place. "That makes things interesting, but difficult. Who do you think you are I wonder? A choice you will have to make. And you have less time to do so than others your age. But you're no stranger to that sort of pressure now are you?" It flapped its brim lightly against the sides of the students head. Marius sat patiently, making no move either with his facial features or his body language to indicate he heard a word of what was being said. The hat started to make a noise as it appeared to be in thought, its 'brow' deeply furrowed.

The headmaster laughed. It was then that Sirius decided to like him. Perhaps Mr.Ogden wouldn´t be strict overly if he did some mischief during the next month... Bright prospects.
And then the moment of truth came: The eminent hat. Of course Sirius already knew the houses of Hogwarts. Harry Potter has told him and her mother about those. Way back in Ilvermorny it was totally clear to which house he belonged. He always was an adventurer. But now?
"That makes things interesting, but difficult. Who do you think you are I wonder? A choice you will have to make. And you have less time to do so than others your age. But you're no stranger to that sort of pressure now are you?" The speaking hat might read his thoughts. Sirius wondered if the headmaster could hear that words too, but Marius Ogden didn´t give him a hint. To be sure that at least his words were just bounded for the hat he didn´t say a word. But his thoughts followed in quick succession.
Gryffindor – The house his grandfather was classified. The house of the braves. Maybe also the adventurers. It seemed to be the perfect house for himself... But perhaps it would be better not to go to the same house like his grandfather. And the most important thing: If he would go to Gryffindor, he probably would do mischief non-stop like Sirius Black sen. and his friends in their school-years...
Ravenclaw – The house of the wise and the nerds. No, he totally didn´t fit in to this house.
Hufflepuff – The house of... nearlly everybody, the ordinary ones. Also not his house, would be too boring.
Slytherin – What about Slytherin?! Ambition, pride, cunning... He possessed all of this – first and foremost cunning! It would be a formidable challenge pretending to be a girl for the rest of his school-time. But Sirius liked challenges...
Such preoccupied with thoughts he forgot the hat, the headmasters office and nearlly everything else. He didn´t even notice that Corvus had flapped away from his shoulder and lit on one of the tables edge. And he shifted around on his chair. Sirius couldn´t just sit down still never before.

"I know what you need," the hat continued after its putting noise ceased. "You need guidance, your mind is more divided than I thought." Marius smiled, his only sign thus far during the internal struggle between the child and the hat. "Lucky for you, you have come to the right school. Challenges... You will face plenty, yes. But there is no better place to help you through them and your personal life than...." As if spoken from the very walls and indeed from every single atom occupying the space between 'Emily' and the headmaster, the hat clearly burst forth without another moments hesitation. "Gryffindor!"
"Well there you have it!" Ogden chimed in, not missing a beat himself. He stood from his chair and swished his wand once again. The Hat flew from the students head and back to its perch where it sat triumphantly. It wore an expression indicating it was very proud of itself. "I trust you will be happy with its decision." The older man said putting a cryptic and ever so slightly sarcastic twist to the word 'its'.

Challenges... You will face plenty, yes. But there is no better place to help you through them and your personal life than...." Although the hat continued unceasingly, it felt like an eternity till it declared "Gryffindor!". But to be honest he was relieved to be sorted into this house - the same his grandfather belonged to.
"Well there you have it!" "I trust you will be happy with its decision." Sirius gave the older man a polite smile. „Yeah, hope so. I trust it knows what it does“, he kidded by using the word it in the same tone like Mr.Ogden before. Suddenly without a spoken invitation Corvus flew up from his seat on the desk and sat back on Sirius‘ shoulder. The boy who pretended to be a girl turned around to leave the office, but span round on his heel a few seconds later. „Err,... where do I get my schedule?“

Emily seemed to be at peace with the sorting and that made Ogden smile, in a warm grandfatherly way. As the student's pet alighted on its favored perch Ms. Hill started for the door. Before placing a hand on the latch Emily turned one last time. "Err,... where do I get my schedule?“
Marius had been scrutinizing the silent retreat but unfurrowed his brow at the question. "My dear child, you will find everything you need in your house's common room, the head boy will be happy to assist you. It is probably already waiting for you along with your things." The door opened on its own accord at that.

"My dear child, you will find everything you need in your house's common room, the head boy will be happy to assist you. It is probably already waiting for you along with your things."
That sounded great. Everything will be clear then. However, it was a bit awkward that he forgot about the head boys assisting the novices.
„Um, oh... I forgot about the head boy. It all happened so long ago.“ Sirius smirked. Then he nodded at Mr. Ogden to say goodbye.
This time he really left the headmaster‘s office. Along his way to Gryffindor common room, he wondered if he would be introduced to Hogwarts together with the new first class students. That would be a bit weird...

***Anya and Boyle enter from Hogwarts - Infirmary***
The walk from the infirmary to the Headmaster's office had been immensely uncomfortable. It was a free day, so there was no avoiding the other students freshly returned from the early end to their Hogsmeade trip and loitering all over the castle. Whispers as they nudged each other and openly stared, some stopping in their tracks to watch and whisper until she disappeared from view.
Professor Boyle's pointed glare got a few to move along and avert their gaze, but there were too many to stare down and most were too absorbed in staring and whispering about her that they didn't even notice Boyle's glares. The glares filled with fear or suspicion were far easier to take than the ones who looked at her with pity. She really hated that Scorpius had blabbed about her parents' death and her very private feeling that nobody wanted her, which clearly hinted that she'd either been passed around many foster homes or had spent most of her life in an orphanage. Those were things she hadn't wanted anyone to know, even more so than the thieving, which was the only part of it that could get her into actual trouble.
Anya found it easier to maintain her cool by keeping her eyes downcast and her expression stony while doing her best to pretend they weren't there, though she couldn't help but glance up every now and again in hopes of seeing Callum, hoping he was alright and really hoping she wouldn't see a look of disdain on his face. That was the only instance where she'd rather see pity.
Regrettably, she did not see him, though perhaps that was for the best. Anya was barely holding onto her tough facade. Any evidence that Callum's feelings toward her had completely changed would have crumbled that facade. It would probably be best to avoid him and all the students as much as possible while she took the time she needed to rebuild the walls she'd slowly let come down as she'd grown more comfortable in this world.
Anya glanced around the office, hoping the busy decor would distract her. Unfortunately, it was hard to distract oneself when much of the decor was staring back, most out of their usual dozing and eying her with mixtures of curiosity and suspicions, some with pity and sorrow. Being former Headmasters, they were more professional and took things in better stride than the students or the other portrait occupants outside this office.
Gossip from the students must have been picked up by the portrait occupants and the news had managed to travel all the way to the portraits of the Headmaster's office. Her shoulders slumped as she looked to Professor Boyle. "Word travels fast through the grapevine... or portrait-vine, as it were," she added, trying to make light of her situation in hopes of diffusing the seriousness of it all.

"Just keep.. walking," Severus muttered to her very quietly when he noticed her looks meeting with the other students passing. Of course, he saw their staring, heard their whispering, but had learned himself once to ignore. It wouldn't change things anyway. If anything, attention made things worse. Well, in his current position, there was no need anymore to ignore but reply to them with glares of his own, sharp and intimidating. But he couldn't take care of all of them, just as he couldn't afford to make allowances for the girl's probably still weak condition while they walked. That was something Severus never actually had had anyway. He's gone through so much pain and sorrow himself that, at some point, he'd become even resistant to others' pain and sorrow as long as it seemed bearable in his eyes. He surely wasn't the right person one should reach for pity, but he was for helping somebody out of a situation.
As soon as they entered the office, Severus rushed to close the door behind them and stare at the portraits with all their nosy pre-headmasters inside, throwing them a glance as if silently say 'not.. a.. word'. Usually, they kept their mouths shut anyway. But especially in a situation like this, he didn't need comments or questions directed at a girl already being pretty much afraid and agitated.
"Word travels fast through the grapevine... or portrait-vine, as it were,"
There was no sign of amusement or any hint of him joining in the humor to make light of the situation, at that. Severus had never been the type who did nor appreciate that. If a situation was spicy then there was nothing else but a solution path to make it through.
With one quick movement of his arm, he gave Anya to understand to sit before he headed for the headmaster's chair himself. A little bit hesitating, he took a seat in it. There were so many memories connected to this seat, this place in general. Memories that, however, weren't helpful right now.
"We must be prepared for them to knock on these doors every minute," Severus declared with severeness. "And they might or might not be the owner of your journal by now. We both know of the obnoxiousness of somebody like Scorpius Malfoy." Although he'd never seen the Malfoys anywhere near Potter and his friends, Potter senior, that was. Draco, and most probably also Scorpius, were just misguided cowards having to grow up to show what they were really made of. Yes, he never had thought bad of Draco, despite his difficult behavior towards other students, Gryffindors especially. Granted, Severus had shared some of this spite for many years, but only because he had seen the disproportion of the house system that Albus always had tended to look away from. "I need to know if you wrote anything in there that could get us into trouble." And he wasn't talking teenager stories of rebellion or harmless proceeds of crime here but occurrences that the ministry would consider a worldwide endangerment, which he tries to make clear with his look upon her.

"We must be prepared for them to knock on these doors every minute,"
Anya immediately sobered, forgetting about the eyes in the portraits watching them and focusing only on Boyle.
"And they might or might not be the owner of your journal by now.
At that, she paled. Anya swallowed hard at the thought of more eyes going through her journal. Her privacy had never felt so violated.
We both know of the obnoxiousness of somebody like Scorpius Malfoy." "I need to know if you wrote anything in there that could get us into trouble."
"It's mostly personal stuff," she said, shrugging as if it was no big deal, but her eyes pulling away gave away how much that bothered her. "But more recently, I've been researching and writing about this," she turned her palm up, fingers tracing over the marks on them, "and my newest revelation that I was most likely using magic to do the things I did."
Nobody was that lucky with getting into places. Doors and windows had always opened with such ease to her. She'd never stop feeling guilty for doing those things, and it made the guilt feel fresh whenever she thought on it and worse, shame mixed in by talking about it. She'd already told Boyle about her life in the foster home, so she could leave it as a vague reference, especially with all the extra ears on the walls. Though they'd all probably heard or would hear soon.
Even though Boyle put her mind at ease over not being thrown into that Azkaban place for it, it still worried her immensely. Using magic in the Muggle world, especially in the company of Muggles was illegal and punishable, though she had no idea to what extent. It wasn't a slight misdemeanor, judging by things she'd heard and how seriously it was spoken of. What, then, would be the punishment when you add in that the magic was used for the benefit of crimes?
Anya defeatedly plopped herself onto a chair and glanced up, worry on her features over the last bit. "I know absolutely nothing about the magic... world... legal system." Right down to not even knowing the proper term for it. Anya found herself completely and utterly lost. "I don't even know how I should be reacting to all this," she said on a short, overwhelmed, humorless laugh as she dragged a hand through her hair before using it to gesture left and right with each of the next items. "What I should say, what I shouldn't say, how I should act or not react when they show up to interview me..." Marius was not around to look to for instruction, so Anya looked to Boyle now, transferring her full trust to him, which showed in her eyes. She knew this would only work if she was an open book. "Whatever you need to know, about me, about my past, just ask and I'll tell you."

"It's mostly personal stuff,""But more recently, I've been researching and writing about this,""and my newest revelation that I was most likely using magic to do the things I did."
It was the first issue that gave Severus reason for concern. Young wizards and witches unwittingly using their magic in times they didn't know anything about the wizarding world was usual, at least something the ministry wasn't too interested in. But an unusual mark, along with ongoing research about it, would be. He said nothing to that, just kept watching the girl in silence. Severus was also good at not letting his thoughts show on his features. However, this thoughtful gaze of his could be intimidating. But, at this point, she should be aware that he didn't mean harm but protection to her.
"I know absolutely nothing about the magic... world... legal system.""I don't even know how I should be reacting to all this,""What I should say, what I shouldn't say, how I should act or not react when they show up to interview me...""Whatever you need to know, about me, about my past, just ask and I'll tell you."
"Don't worry about what to say. I'll make that my business, and since I'm, at least momentarily, in charge of this school, they'll have to respect my way of proceeding," Severus explained in a matter-of-fact tone. He wasn't afraid of the ministry, although he'd be lying if he said that he didn't feel, at least, slightly nervous about them, but that had nothing to do with the issue at hand. "I have to know what they might, in case they are in possession of your journal. About what you found out regarding this," he added with a pointer towards Anastasia's hand, waiting for her to response.

"Right," she said, glancing down as she turned her palm face up. "I'm starting to wonder if I didn't get this the way I remember it." She glanced up at him, trying to read if that was a possibility, some way that her memory had been tampered with. But his expression, like always, was unreadable, so she continued onto what she'd learned about the markings, skipping over the unknown origins that she'd only begun wondering about and hadn't yet put to writing.
"It was a friend's pet who first noticed what we were missing." A ghost of a smile found its way to her face as she recalled the memory of that day with Callum and Ralph. Strange how Ralph triggering her phobia of fire was the beginning of an intriguing revelation that had fueled hers and Callum's motivation to research and unravel more of the mysteries within the markings. "When he triggered it, we realized it's actually vari--"
There was a sharp knock at the door and Anya's voice disappeared along with the ghost of a smile. Wide-eyed, she scrambled to her feet and faced the door as a woman let herself in, grasping her hands behind her back to hide them but looking as if she was standing at attention.

Zinnia Fog, Ministry Lead Investigator Temp-play by Hollywood Heidi
***Zinnia enters from Hogwarts - Gargoyle Corridor***
Huffing her annoyance at the dizzying loop of stairs, she finally reached the top and raised her hand to knock, but paused at the sound of a voice. Leaning closer, she tried to make out what was being said, but it was far too muffled behind the thick door.
Zinnia gave the door a sharp knock and the voice immediately stopped. She took it upon herself to invite herself in, closing the door behind her as she eyed the two occupants. There was a professor, no doubt fairly new as she did not recognize him, though it had been some time since she'd been within the walls of Hogwarts. The Headmaster wasn't in sight, which was to Zinnia's benefit. She felt as if she had more of a free reign, despite the presence of a professor.
"Good afternoon," she formally greeted him before dismissing him from her attention to hone in on the girl. "You must be Anastasia Novak." The girl paled, giving Zinnia her answer. "I am Inspector Fog of the Ministry of Magic, here to interview you regarding the occurrence at Hogsmeade."
Question, actually, or if you got right down to it, interrogate, but she'd learned in her years that 'interview' tended to make people less intimidated and more cooperative. Let them believe you were on their side, even though there were no sides. The law was the law. You either followed them or broke them. It was a smart tactic that usually got the spilling of information started. Though this young lady remained quiet as her eyes instead went to the professor, revealing deep seated trust issues that usually went hand-in-hand with a troubled past... or trouble itself, who had learned how to dodge consequences.

Severus was listening to the girl's explanations, her little achievements and dead ends on their research about the mark and the symbols linked to it. His facial expression didn't change, not even once, but only when a sharp knock on the door suddenly interrupted them. And even then, there was no more than a turning of his gaze and head hinting at a change. But before Severus could even answer the knock, the person behind the door invited themself in. It would be interesting to know where this woman got the password from, but, on the other hand, most students would be either too afraid or too bribable to question the idea of letting someone from the ministry in on the headmaster's office password.
"Good afternoon,"
Severus watched her with more unreadable looks yet surely with something not so pleased.
"You must be Anastasia Novak.""I am Inspector Fog of the Ministry of Magic, here to interview you regarding the occurrence at Hogsmeade."
And again, this woman - at least not one of the pink devil kind they once had to deal with at Hogwarts for much longer even - went on inviting herself in, this time into a direct conversation with Anya, an interview, how she so innocently had put it.
"If I may- interrupt?" Severus finally spoke up as well, still unchanged as for his position behind the desk, looking at the woman with the same neutral displeasure as before. He went on, not even once looking at Anya while he did, before she could say anything to his former words. "Miss Novak had been having quite an eventful day, as we all had. So I'd like to deputize for her in this- interview.. just like I- do for the headmaster.. until his- return."

(Anastasia and Zinnia)
So, Marius Ogden still hadn't returned to his post. Zinnia found this to be curious. He had made it known that he would be absent for a short time, but the time had gone beyond short and stranger still, Marius had not given any information as to where he was going or how he could be reached. Everyone she'd talked to seemed to have no idea. Zinnia wasn't familiar with this particular professor sitting in his stead. He must be one of the few new ones amongst Hogwart's roster this year.
"And when will that be?" she asked rhetorically with a shrewd narrowing of her eyes that showed she knew something was off about Marius' absence and what he was up to. "Very well," she said with a nod, before returning her attention to Anastasia once again. "But your parents should also be informed and brought into attendance immediately."
There was only a flicker of pain on Anya's face before she put on a stony expression that hid what she was feeling. "My parents are gone," she said in a calm, matter-of-fact tone.
It had been a natural and legal decision to come to when a minor was involved. Zinnia had momentarily forgotten Scorpius' claims regarding Anastasia's parents until seeing the reaction it had brought to the girl. She'd unintentionally confirmed the truth and felt slightly guilty for having done so in such a way. "My apologizes. Your family, then."
Anya shrugged, not reacting to the apology or this new question that brought on an additional painful fact. "Haven't any of those, either," she said just as casually.
Zinnia let out an exasperated sigh. Miss Novak wasn't exactly being defiant, but she also wasn't exactly being cooperative. "Legal guardian, then. You must have foster parents?" she said with mild annoyance. 'Bingo', Zinnia thought at the unexpected expression that brought to Miss Novak's face.
Anya was startled out of her stony expression at the thought of seeing her foster parents again. No doubt they were all still looking for her. She was a loose end, a potential complication or even end to their carefully organized operation. And how they would react to this newest revelation with greedy opportunity. They would find a way to get her back and exploit her magic. "You can't tell them." By Zinnia's raised eyebrow that said a silent 'Can't I?' Anya added, "They don't know anything about the magical world." When Zinnia made a move to counter with what Anya was sure would be a comment about how a legal guardian should know, Anya interjected again. "Marius got me away from them for good reason."
And Anya left it at that. There was already so much about her that had been made public today that she'd wished never to be public. It was hard enough coping with the hands life continued to deal her. Anya preferred to block out the past, which was hard to do when others were looking at you with eyes that showed it was what they thought of when looking at you. Even worse were comments, particularly good intentioned ones. Sometimes a heartfelt 'I'm sorry' was enough to break a person on a bad day.
When Miss Novak first proclaimed that her foster parents couldn't be told, Zinnia had assumed that it was simply a child wishing to avoid the punishment their parents would deal them, but she was wrong. Miss Novak had been correct in her assumption that with the second comment, Zinnia was about to inform her that a legal guardian should know, even if they were Muggles. But Miss Novak's final comment had her retracting any other comments she may have and making mental notes to look into these foster parents. There were very few reasons the wizarding world would ever intervene in the Muggle world. Child endangerment was one of them.
Anya could see Inspector Fog's mind at work. "I'm 17 years old. Couldn't I just file for emancipation?" she asked before Fog could make any more determinations or decisions.
Zinnia studied the girl. She'd obviously looked into the concept. The fact that Miss Novak even knew that that was a thing spoke volumes of how bad her situation had been. It would certainly make her job easier if Miss Novak would follow through with that notion, but a thread of sympathy wove itself through Zinnia's usually emotionally detached staunch upholding of the law. "Then you would be an adult in the eyes of the law and put on trial for the events of today." There was still a chance of it leading to that, but the law was far more lenient toward minors and tended to want to settle issues outside of magical courts. "It would be in your best interest that we look into assigning you a temporary legal guardian. Now, would you like to tell me about what happened today?"
After a pause, Anya had given a single nod of agreement at the first, but at Zinnia's follow-up, question, Anya's lips remained sealed as her eyes went to Professor Boyle once again. Zinnia had hoped that the advice she'd provided would have gained enough trust to get the details of the day from the source rather than have to go through Professor Boyle, but no such luck. The girl's distrust and self-preservation ran deep.

Severus grew with annoyance with each further minute. He thought he'd spoken plain English when saying that he would deputize for Anya. The only reason for not having interrupted this chat yet was the fact that he knew nothing about the girl's housing situation himself. Anyways, there came a moment when he would have done so after all, intervening with a sharp 'or we don't go on with assumptions but, instead, with facts', if not the ministry woman brought just that up herself.
Severus faked a slight smile, not really putting an effort into that though, when all eyes turned on him suddenly. "Well. As I said before..., I'd like to... deputize," he spoke slowly and with a determined look at the woman, then turned his gaze towards Anya for a moment before adding: "Means: I'd like to give our students, this one included, time to get some rest from said eventful day." Severus cocked an eyebrow at her as if to silently add a sarcastic 'am I allowed to do so, or will you question my current position to decide such things?'

Anya took advantage of Professor Boyle's dismissal and excused herself before Inspector Fog could come up with another line of questioning to keep her around.
Relief had her relaxing a bit which let some of the exhaustion of the day show. "Thank you, Professor Boyle," she said, giving the Inspector a respectful nod as a silent goodbye. She quickly made her way out the door before Zinnia had the chance to say anything further to her.

Zinnia Fog, Ministry Lead Investigator Temp-play by Hollywood Heidi
Zinnia watched with annoyance as the young lady disappeared out the door. She turned her annoyed glance over toward the man who had proclaimed he'd speak on the girl's behalf. A man she had no knowledge of. The Ministry might not know all the professors of the schools in their district, but they always knew the Headmasters.
And this one acted as if his authority outweighed the Ministry's. True, the Headmaster may have jurisdiction when it came to school grounds, as long as there was not a threat that might go beyond school walls, but he was not officially the Headmaster and Zinnia was contemplating a theory that posed a threat that would go beyond school walls. It was time to throw around her own authority to gain the upper hand.
"And who, pray tell, are you; a stranger to the Ministry sitting in the seat of a mysteriously absent Headmaster? Is there more going on at this school that I should be bringing to the attention of the Ministry besides Miss Novak?"

"Thank you, Professor Boyle,"
Severus replied to her words of farewell with no more than a slight nod, barely noticeable even, before he turned his full attention towards the ministry woman, who most certainly would speak up again first. Well, he was not in a rush, although he would have liked nothing better than the school being free again of these people. However, Severus didn't like the annoyed and, at the same time, curious gaze upon him, to which he replied with just another cocked eyebrow.
"And who, pray tell, are you; a stranger to the Ministry sitting in the seat of a mysteriously absent Headmaster? Is there more going on at this school that I should be bringing to the attention of the Ministry besides Miss Novak?"
"More than a headmaster attending to his duties that sometimes would have him be needed outside of school while someone has to represent him for the while of his absence you mean? Such a mystery, isn't it?" Severus sarcastically made the other wonder, once again cocking an eyebrow at her. "Benjamin Boyle," he then added with an undertone slightly annoyed himself, "Born in January 1979, Professor since eighteen years, not at Hogwarts but Ilvermorny, been tasked with a representative position before, which, obviously, despite my only recently obtained employment at this school, made the headmaster see me as a good candidate for the job. You can have a look into my file if you feel a need to," Severus added with a tone that rather turned his suggestion into ridicule, letting follow a look like 'anything else you'd like to know about me personally before we talk about what you're actually here for?'.

Zinnia Fog, Ministry Lead Investigator Temp-play by Hollywood Heidi
Zinnia listened carefully and mentally noted the facts he'd given about himself. It would be good to keep notes and to look into this new Professor since he was taking charge of Anastasia on the school's behalf, and he was proving to be making her job difficult. Sometimes one needed to find leverage in order to make another more cooperative.
"That won't be necessary," she said with a dismissive wave, then turned authoritative and serious again. "However, I do require Anastasia Novak's file." Zinnia pinned him with an expectant gaze, that added an unspoken 'now'.

Severus was, of course, well aware of this way of turning questions into ridicule wouldn't change the fact that they will do further research about him anyway. Fortuntaley, he had himself educated before taking on Professor Boyle's persona. So Severus remained unperturbed, on the outside same as on the inside.
"That won't be necessary,""However, I do require Anastasia Novak's file."
As much as he disliked her silent way of adding a 'now' to her request, Severus, once again, was aware of a fact. He had to hand the file out if he wanted to get rid of her and the ministry in general. He had no idea what exactly the file contained but was sure it wouldn't be something the headmaster couldn't risk anyone to know. Probably just the usual.
"Of course," he uttered in his usual slow spoken way, and with a false smile at that, before walking over to the archive with all the files. "Accio Anastasia Novak's file", Severus spoke up again as soon as he stood in front of the drawers. It took only a moment before one of the folders started flying right at him and into his open hand. With his features unchanged, he walked back to the desk, holding it out to the ministry woman, then sat back down without any more words.

Zinnia Fog, Ministry Lead Investigator Temp-play by Hollywood Heidi
"Thank you," she said, slightly smug over finally having gained some cooperation. Zinnia settled herself into a guest chair opposite him and retrieved her notepad and pen from her robes. Placing them to the right, she opened the file and the pen began writing on its own what she was mentally magically sending to it.
Zinnia's finger followed down the general information form, the name and address of her foster parents copying down onto her own notepad along with general information such as date and place of birth, names of birth parents, etc.
She stopped halfway down the page when she reached some blank lines, her pen also stopping and hovering over her notepad. "This is incomplete," she said, glancing up with an accusatory eye before looking to the form again. "The information on her previous school has been left blank." Zinnia flipped through the few other meager papers in the file. "No transcripts, no cumulative records transferred from her previous school..." What she was really looking for were any assessment reviews, discipline records, or records of concerns or oddities that may have occurred surrounding Miss Novak, to see what the professors at her Muggle schools may have gathered about her and to see how far back strange incidents such as today may have gone. She'd also hoped the names and addresses of the previous foster parents that had housed her would be present, but only the most recent was listed.
Zinnia glanced up at Boyle accusatorily, even though she was sure the blame lay with Marius as Miss Novak had been here longer than Boyle had temporarily taken on Headmaster duties. Still, she couldn't dismiss the possibility that perhaps her file had been tampered with recently.

Severus completely ignored her words of gratitude. With those and the ministry, it was anyway no more than a formality, a way to react to a task fulfilled to their satisfaction. If there was something that almost all people working at the ministry had in common, then it was their delight in performing any kind of power, at least those in higher positions.
He wouldn't allow this woman to bath in a filled tub of satisfaction by ducking in though. Instead, his gaze would remain glued to her like a cat's eyes to a mouse while not bothering that she was taking notes from the file.
Severus noticed the sudden stop of her actions yet remained silent and with his features unchanged before she would explain the matter for that.
"This is incomplete,"
He raised an eyebrow at that like 'is that so?', although still pretty unperturbed.
"The information on her previous school has been left blank.""No transcripts, no cumulative records transferred from her previous school..."
Of course, her accusatory glance at him didn't slip his attention, but he was withstanding that as well. "And, of course, we're used to altering information as we wish because we want nothing but our perfect army of students here in Hogwarts," Severus replied to her with sarcasm, raising once again an eyebrow to turn his words even more into ridicule.

Zinnia Fog, Ministry Lead Investigator Temp-play by Hollywood Heidi
Zinnia shrewdly narrowed her eyes at him as she drummed her fingernails on the desk. She resented the accusation, truth to it, though there may be. She was getting nowhere fast, getting absolutely no help from the school part of Miss Novak's life, so she'd have to look deeper into her home life. Zinnia had her quill circle the address of the last known foster parents as a mental note that paying them a visit was to be one of her first tasks. Whatever worry Miss Novak had had about a possible reconnection between herself and her foster parents, it was important that she learn of any odd goings on that may have occurred.
Distractedly glancing through the sparse file again for anything she might have missed left an open opportunity for Boyle to eye what she'd written on her pad or had just circled. Not that she much minded. Perhaps it would inspire a bit of cooperation.
Finding nothing else useful, she folded the file closed and pushed it back toward Boyle. "What can you tell me about Miss Novak? Have there been any other instances out of the ordinary involving her? Things that should have been added to her file," she gestured open palmed to said file, "but perhaps, you haven't gotten around to adding yet?"

Severus took notice of the pushed-back anger, no matter how calm this woman tried to remain, and he wasn't unpleased about it. To see the ministry not getting what they wanted, or not getting it the easy way, actually made him feel good, or just better than usual since good would have been a lot to feel for him. Anyways, these people mostly were a bunch of arrogant witches and wizards who had the upper hand way too often.
When she glanced through the file again, Severus was, indeed, using the chance to get a glimpse of what she had written down so far. However, he turned his eyes back away from that rather quickly after all. It was mostly notes of what stood in Anya's file anyway. Also, he didn't want to risk looking too curious.
"What can you tell me about Miss Novak? Have there been any other instances out of the ordinary involving her? Things that should have been added to her file,""but perhaps, you haven't gotten around to adding yet?"
"These kids are students... and no convicts," he informed her with yet another snark, spoken with ridicule but also like he actually questioned the ministry's credibility in this affair. "But to answer your question-" Severus added before she could react to his former words, "No. There was nothing unordinary involving her."
