5 out of 5 stars again! The show's gotten so exciting now!
Man, you think things are bad enough for Michael and Sawyer, being stranded in the middle of the ocean on pieces of wreckage. Then a shark starts bumping their wreckage as if trying to knock it's dinner into the water. Until that point, I hadn't even thought of sharks! Oh man, that was scary! Nothing between you and a vicious shark but planks of bamboo tied together by vine. And poor Jin is nowhere to be seen!
I was on the edge of my seat quite enough and then Sawyer has to go and nearly give me a heart attack TWICE by getting back into the water. With a friggin' bloodied shoulder! Geez, if we didn't think he didn't give a crap about dying before, we sure know now. I was yelling at Sawyer when he took the bullets out to check if they were dry only to have the shark bump them again and most of the bullets go flying. GAH!! When the shark was swimming after him as he was going for the bigger piece of wreckage and the gun jammed while Michael tried to shoot the shark, I was holding my breath.
I can't believe Sawyer dug the bullet out of his shoulder with his bare hands. Ouch and holy crap! I was busting out when he asked Michael if he had a band aide, lol!! Actually, most of Sawyer and Michael's scenes in the water were going back and forth between suspenseful and funny. Just the writers toying with our emotions again, damn them!
Dammit, Charlie, with your Virgin Mary statue! Claire spotted it and he makes excuses that she's good to have around because she's holy. And adds that she might be useful. Yah, not she herself, but what's stashed in side. You can see that the drugs are still playing a priority in his mind because he immediately hands back Aaron so that he can hold the statue.
And now to the hatch. Did you see all that food in the room Kate was locked in? Holy crap! Where did it all come from? I love how Kate takes it all in and then goes to find a way out only to pause when she sees chocolate. Everything is put on hold and I can't blame her. Can you imagine not having chocolate for over 40 days? I'd be right along with her, tearing open a package and savoring and then stuffing the rest in my pockets, lol! I love those little touches that the writers add. On a side note, did that Apollo candy bar look familiar? It was yet another nod to Lost in Once Upon a Time when we see Henry buying one. They aren't a real candy and were made up for Lost.
Again, Desmond brings up the topic of some sickness when he asks Locke how many of the survivors are sick. That along with Danielle's mention of it and the word Quarantine on the inside of the hatch door makes you wonder. And what's with that computer? What's going on in that Hatch? All of a sudden, we hear a beeping and Desmond looks panicked, taking Locke by gunpoint to the computer and making him type in numbers. Not just any numbers, THE numbers! Then to hit Execute after. I can understand Locke's hesitation and I want to know what it will do just like Locke wants to know. There's some weird timer going and when he finally hits execute, it flips over to start counting down again at 108.00. There's that other important number again! 108 is all the numbers added together.
So that means that the countdown lasts an hour and 48 minutes. I'm assuming when it gets close to running down, the beeping starts and you've got to put in those numbers and hit execute. Geez, no wonder Desmond looks like a mess. As far as we know, Desmond was the only one down there. That means that he has to be entering those numbers and pushing that button every hour and 48 minutes which means that he probably hasn't really had a normal sleep in however long he's been down there. No wonder he seems kinda scatter-brained. I can't even imagine! And what could entering those numbers and hitting execute possibly do that seems so important to put Desmond in a panic if it's not done?
I really love how we get to see the same scenes from different points of view and different angles. It just makes it feel so real to see it through different eyes. Last ep was through Jack's eyes, this one was through Kate's, and I believe the next ep will be a third through Locke's eyes. Yah, minor spoiler but not like I gave anything away, lol!
Did you notice that strange sticker on what looked like a circuit box? Locke had paused to look at it and had run his fingers over it. In that room with Kate, we see it on every single piece of food item. Keep an eye out for that. You'll be seeing it a lot! In fact, it's my cell phone background but instead of a swan in the middle, it's the Apple logo (I have an iPhone). That symbol, minus the swan in the middle, is a modification of the Taoist Bagua symbol which has a yin yang in the middle. I should probably do a whole separate post about that in the Symbols board as there is a lot of info on it. Bet you didn't notice it in yet another, very unexpected place! This is one that had me running back to my DVR yet again! You remember when Sawyer is in the water after they were bumped and they do an underwater shot and you see a shark swim by? Well, pause and put it on slow motion and you'll see this:
WTF is going on on that island? How the heck did the shark end up with that symbol and who's job was it to have to put it there, lol! Notice that it's different in the middle though. It's not a swan. So what do these symbols mean? It's almost like a way of labeling, organizing, categorizing, and/or tracking things but why and who did all this? The place and the Others we've seen so far seem so primitive and the Hatch and this new symbol seem to advanced.
In the flashbacks, I felt so bad for Michael. He really did want his son in his life and it was all out of his control. Lizzy, Susan's lawyer, was a total beyotch. I so hated her. She was rubbing his lack of past with his son in his face and at the same time, using it as their defense to cut Michael out of Walt's life. She was so cold and calculating. I'm not a big fan of Susan's either. The way she talks to Michael about what's best for Walt, using her own lawyer talk to persuade him to walk away and do what's best for Walt when Susan herself didn't exactly care what was best for Walt. She only cared what she wanted. Otherwise, she wouldn't have married Bryan. Bryan had made it clear he wasn't interested in having kids and she gave him an ultimatum. Um, if you have to create an ultimatum based on your kid, you are being selfish and only caring about yourself when you should be choosing a guy who wants you AND your child. I think it's obvious that Walt never felt loved or wanted by Bryan. There was no bond there. Walt always talks about him with a shrug and doesn't seem to miss him at all.
Little Walt was so adorable! I like how Michael gave him a stuffed animal of a polar bear. What a coincidence! Harold Perrineau (Michael) is such a great actor. His goodbye scene is so good and then flashing to him crying on the raft as he starts telling Sawyer that it's all his fault is heart wrenching.
Omg, the ending! Sawyer and Michael finally make it to shore and you finally let out the breath you've been holding, relieved they'll be okay. Then Jin comes running out with his hands tied behind his back shouting "Others! Others!" Geez! Out of the fire, into the frying pan! So we finally get to see more of these "Others" emerge? Whoever they are, like the people on the boat who took Walt, they look almost more wild and savage than Danielle. I definitely don't think they look like the type to have created the Hatch or that system of labeling things.
Favorite quotes/moments:Michael: Well, I guess I know why the shark is hanging around -- your shoulder.
Sawyer: Oh, well, I'll just stop bleeding then.
Sawyer: I thought we parted ways, Mike.
Michael: We're caught in the same current.
Sawyer: (after digging the bullet out of his shoulder with his bare hands) You got a band-aid?
Sawyer: Oh, what are you gonna do, splash me?
(Michael splashes him)
Sawyer: How about that? The current brought us back. We're home.
