5 out of 5 stars! As the episode was nearing the end, I was flip flopping between 4 and 5 but the ending pushed it to the 5.
Making someone cry out of sadness can be difficult enough but making you shed tears of happiness is way harder. So many feels in those last 10 minutes from Charlie and Claire getting to share real peanut butter the way they'd shared the invisible peanut butter but mostly, it was the Tailie man approaching Michael, Sawyer, and Jin and asking if a woman named Rose had been among their group. The realization that this was Bernard and his reaction to learning Rose was alive and well made me do that giddy laugh-cry, then they cut to Rose stashing a candy bar in her pocket for Bernard, who she'd said had a mouth full of sweet teeth. She's known all along that he's alive. She felt it. All those episodes ago, back when the show first started and she sat there with Jack, we all thought she was delusional to believe her husband was alive. I've never been more happy to be wrong!
This was yet another episode with an opening that fooled me at first. I didn't realize it was a dream but then it was weird that he pulled out a whole plate with mashed potatoes, steak, veggies, etc. and then suddenly, Jin is standing there talking English... but no, he's talking Korean and Jin says so is Hurley. Then randomly, there's a guy in a chicken suit and suddenly I'm like, wtf is going on? Lol!
During that dream, did you catch a fun easter egg? It's so obvious once someone points it out! Notice the milk carton Hurley is drinking out of has a picture on it? I don't know if they do that in other countries but in the U.S., they used to put a missing person (usually a child) on a milk carton.
IT'S WALT!!! So crazy!! But you know what's even crazier? Hurley and the other survivors have no idea that the Rafties were attacked and are no longer sailing away to find rescue. They don't know Walt's been taken by the Others. Claire had just found the bottle of messages and had only shown it to Shannon and Sun and even that isn't a guarantee that something went wrong.
As with most Hurley-centric episode, there are so many quotable moments! My list at the bottom will be long! Lol, I love how Hurley is the one entering the numbers and Kate points to the sticky note with the numbers and he's just so damned sick of those numbers following him everywhere! And Hurley's mom is so awesome. I just love her. She's hilarious with her dry sarcasm. Hurley's friend is really funny, too. I love their prank, spelling out "Cluck You" with lawn gnomes on the lawn of their asshole ex-boss. Aw, Hurley's crush on Starla is so sweet, too! She really likes him and he never had the courage to ask her out until he was afraid that she'd say yes for the wrong reasons after it was revealed he was rich. So sad at the end of his flashbacks, the way his friend was looking at him. That guy is a good actor. That one look had a mixture of betrayal, disbelief, envy...
I really love the interaction between Sawyer and Ana Lucia! So funny! Just this one episode makes me want to ship those two! Sana! Lol!
It's so funny how Charlie just refuses to believe that Hurley is a millionaire. He's so mad every time that Hurley mentions it, like Hurley is continuing this lie that Charlie just thinks he knows is a lie.
Yay, I was so happy to see Rose back! Especially with her end scenes. Rose and Bernard! <3 Omg, I really, really hope they find each other again. Even apart, they are such a great couple that you totally root for them. Rose is sweet and also funny. She's very honest and goodhearted. I like when Hurley shows her the hatch for the simple fact that there's a washing machine and dryer and when Hurley says to Jack and Rose won't tell, she's like, "Honey,I wouldn't even know what to say."
We had another really neat character connection in this episode! Did you catch it? You remember Locke's asshole boss at the box company? That's the same asshole boss that Hurley has at Mr. Cluck's!! Yup, that's Randy! So somewhere down the line, Randy had gone from managing a Mr. Cluck's to managing that box company.
A couple of really great Jate moments for us Jaters! That shower scene when Jack goes to explore what that noise is when he and Sayid are under the hatch and walks in on her in a towel and she's all flirty and he can't help but watch her as she walks away with this adorable look on his face! And then at the end, when they're eating and she takes a bite of his food and when he goes to take a bite of hers, she smacks his hand with her fork. Lol, so adorable! JATE!!!!
I almost forgot to mention!! That bunker the Tailies are hiding in... did you notice there's a symbol on the wall much like the one in the Swan Station hatch? Same symbol but something different in the middle. Also, the door says QUARANTINE on the inside just like the hatch door did.
Favorite quotes/moments:Kate: (touching a post-it on the computer monitor) The Numbers are written right there.
Hurley: Yeah, I remember the Numbers.
Jin: (pointing to Sawyer's shoulder.)
Sawyer: Ah, yeah. Why don't you pee on it?
(Lol, throwback reference to Hurley telling Jin to pee on his foot when he stepped on a sea urchin! I love when they do call-backs!)Sawyer: You want me, Hotlips, you're going to have to come down here and get me -- (Pit cover slams shut) -- Bitch.
Carmen: Maybe if you pray everyday, Jesus Christ will come down from heaven, take 200 pounds and bring you a decent woman, and a new car. Yes, Jesus can bring you a new car.
Hurley: Maybe I don't want to change. Maybe I like my life.
(The phone rings.}
Carmen: Oh, that must be Jesus. (She goes to another room and picks up the phone.) Hola, momento. (Shouting to Hurley from other room) Yes, it is Jesus! He wants to know what color car you want!
Charlie: Oh, and the time you told you were worth 150 million dollars?
Hurley: It's 156 million.
Charlie: I'm sorry, I must have confused it with the 900 trillion I am worth myself. And this baby's made of chocolate lollipops. So, if you'll excuse us, I'm going to flap my wings and fly off this Island!
Hurley: Everyone's asking me what's in the Hatch.
Rose: That's your business, honey.
Hurley: Don't you want to know?
Rose: Well, whatever it is, it's not going to help get this laundry done, now is it?
Hurley: Well, actually... it sort of is.
Michael: Everything's cool. We had a talk and they believe we were on the plane, too.
Sawyer: Swell, I guess we can all sue Oceanic together.
Ana Lucia: When I tell you to do something, you do it -- I say move, you move -- I say stop, you stop. I say jump, what do you say?
Sawyer: You first.
