4 stars from me!
Dammit, Sawyer, I was just starting to like you as a good guy and then you have to go and pull this. I know Sawyer has a problem with being liked or seen as a good person and will do bad things to make people hate him but this long con felt different. It was more like an immature big kid throwing a fit at the fact his stuff was taken while he was away.
It's definitely gonna take a long time for Sawyer to redeem himself on this one. He conned practically everyone important. He played everyone against each other, got Charlie to hurt and scare the shit out of Sun, played Kate against Ana Lucia and Jack against Locke. Points lost for team Skate. He totally used her as well. Did you see the look on Kate's face at the end? Oh man.
I do have to say though that he played that con very smoothly. Just like he said in the flashback, you've gotta make the person you're conning think everything was their idea. I think when I watched this the first time when it originally aired, I didn't see it coming but now that I know the show so well, I was able to watch this intricate dance of his, the way he worded things, etc., to get people to come up with the idea he wanted them to come up with.
I'm so mad at him for doing all this. And Charlie, what the heck are you doing, you once sweet man? His hate for Locke and wanting revenge against him seems to be greater than his care about hurting poor Sun. Charlie's definitely got some work ahead of him as well to redeem himself in my eyes.
We continue to see how the effects of their time on the island varied for the Tailies verses our mid-sectioners. Ana Lucia made a good point when she said that they all weren't scared enough. She's kind of right. After their run-in with the Others, everyone at the camp seems to be back to normal as if nothing happened, totally trusting that if they don't cross that imaginary line set by Mr. Friendly, everything will be fine and dandy. I guess at least in the back of their minds, they carry some doubt as Sawyer was able to make them assume at first that the Others had attacked Sun.
I laughed when Ana Lucia made the Scott/Steve mistake. Poor Scott and Steve. The mid-sectioners have such trouble keeping the two of them straight, even after one had died before the Tailies had gotten there, that even the new Tailies can't get his name right.
How awesome was that character connection in Sawyer's flashback? Kate's mom was his waitress! So cool! On the subject of flashbacks, that was a tough con he pulled. I think he really did develop feelings for Cassidy. That was such an intricate con. Like a con wrapped in a con wrapped in a con. He pulled the money dropping con we first saw him do but intentionally knowing it would fail. A con of a con. At the end, he even straight up told her he knew all along about the $600K and that she was part of a long con. Well, they say that the best way to get away with lies is to infuse them with truth. very detail was played out exactly as planned. I did have to wonder though if he was going to go through with it. When he was talking to Gordy, I wondered if he was trying to con Gordy by pretending he'd fallen in love with Cassidy and pretending he was backing out just so he could take the whole $600K. I thought for sure Gordy would be in the car at the end of that scene but when he wasn't, I wondered if Sawyer was taking off with all the money. He didn't though. He split it with Gordy as was the plan. Poor Cassidy.
Well Sawyer, you have all the guns now. Congrats, you ass! Lol! Seriously though, if the Others decide to not keep their promise, it will be Sawyer's fault that they can't defend themselves. He's got all the guns and nobody but himself knows where they are. If something happens to him, the rest are basically screwed.
Favorite scenes/quotes:
Sawyer: You even made Locke take a swing at you. Hell, that's like getting Gandhi to beat his kids.
Ana Lucia: That's the nice thing about you people -- you're not scared enough.
Locke: Why are you telling me this? Sawyer: Because it'll piss off Jack.
Jack sees Sawyer at the hatch computer Jack: What are you doing here? Sawyer: One second, I'm like this close to the high score on Donkey Kong.

For me this was definitively a 5 star episode! Doesn't mean I'd appreciate Sawyer's behaviors. :/ But jesus, he's such an awesome badass guy, lol! He even managed to cheat LOCKE! Wow, the actor of Sawyer is able to look very very scarying! The look, when Jack took away the medicine from him at the beginning! But a little bit like a child, someone has stolen a chocolate bar from. xD At first I thought there would be another reason than just normal medicine taken away from him. I loved the scene, when Kate started to read loud from that women magazine to Sawyer! Haha! Did I mention I love every Skate scene? ;P Lol at the Steve/Scott gag again! Oh man, Sawyer really is a hardcore crook! I didn't see the real long con plan coming, neither in the flashbacks with Cassidy, nor in the present on the island. Wow, and the war between him and Jack seems to escalate a lot. Uhm, like again with everyone else on the island... *sigh* To be honest Jack is starting to get on my nerves a bit... :/ There even is a part in me, which appreciated, that Sawyer foiled him. Yes... Team Skate lost a lot of points... Sawyer, you're an idiot! My heart was breaking, when I saw the look on Kate's face in the end... Actually I never thought Ana was behind the Sun attack. And honestly I asked myself the whole time, where Charlie has been and even if he could be behind it somehow. Seems my intuition wasn't that bad this time. Charlie was btw looking pretty much like a criminal. Oh and I somehow feared, that Sawyer would take the money from Cassidy in the end. But I'm sure, he didn't lied, when he told her, that he loves her. --------------------------------- Favourite quotes:Sawyer: "Locke's got himself needs... [looks down at Kate]... just like anyone else." Locke: "Why are you telling me this?" Sawyer: "Because it'll piss off Jack." Jack: "What are you doing here?" Sawyer: "One second, I'm like this close to the high score on Donkey Kong."

What did you think of the episode? This episode was great! The events of the episode definitely keep you thinking and guessing and the flashback about our favourite bad boy was insightful and well written. What expectations or theories did you have that either ended up right or wrong? Even though I've seen this episode before, it's been a couple years since I saw it so I totally forgot about what happened. There's a part near the beginning where Sun gets attacked and knocked out so the whole episode makes you try to guess and pinpoint who did it. Sawyer convinced Kate that it was Ana Lucia, and I was also convinced (would give me another reason to dislike her, heh.) but I was wrong.Who was your favorite character in this episode and why? Least favorite? Sawyer! It's always insightful looking into his past. And the fact that he pretty much conned everyone on the entire island in this episode without them even noticing just had me floored with awe. I forgot just how talented Sawyer really is at what he does based on the outcome of the events that occur on the island this episode.
What scenes or situations did you like best? Least? I liked the scene near the end of the episode where Sawyer steps up to not only take initiative but to stand up to Jack. He's not one to get down and serious with emotions, but I felt his intentions (good or bad) and what he said about how he felt were true to who he really is.
The scene I liked the least is the one where Sun gets attacked and knocked out, because she is so sweet and never does anything to anyone. Even more so, later we find out that the attacker was none other than Charlie Pace. I get the intent he had to go along with Sawyer's plan, but still, not only was I slighted with disappointment but I lost another notch of respect for him during the season 2 re-watch (doesn't mean he doesn't gain it back later on !)What were some of your favorite quotes? "Saywer: One second, I'm like this close to the high score on Donkey Kong."
"Sawyer: Hate to interrupt whatever it is you're doin'. What are ya doing?
Locke: I'm alphabetizing.
Sawyer: Sure. Sun gets attacked in the jungle, you figure it's a good time to start the Dewey Decimal System. Good thinking."How do you rate this episode compared to the rest? 4 stars! What do you think of the episode now that you've seen the whole series? I watched this episode when it first aired, and then again a year later after that, so I was pretty young. I feel like now that I am re-watching this episode being a lot older and with more life experience, I understand the portrayed emotions better which makes the re-watch more enjoyable and entertaining.Did you find anything new you didn't catch the previous time(s) watching? It's been a while since I watched the episode, so I had completely forgotten who it was that attacked Sun.
