I gave it 4 stars! Very good and totally got me teared-up a couple times but there are such amazing episodes coming up that I just have to withhold my 5 stars! That's the good thing about having already seen the entire show. I can get a better sense of comparison.
Lol, I don't recall there being an official ship name for Rose and Bernard! Maybe because they're already married so it's not a couple that people were hoping would get together (since they already are). I'd go with Brose though Ronard sounds good too! I also really love them as a couple. Their backstory is so sweet and when he proposed with such a great speech, I got teared-up, even worse when she said she only had about a year to live and after processing that, he simply says, "You haven't answered my question."
I would be right there alongside you, sorting those cans by type and making sure the label was facing the right way, lol! I would definitely have been stoked in the first place that someone built shelves so that we'd be able to better organize things. Really neat to see what can still be accomplished without a hardware store around the corner.
It was really interesting to see Locke sitting at the computer, ignoring the alarm going off and funny that Jack was the one making a comment. Jack totally sounded sarcastic about it though. You know he doesn't put much faith or belief in the button and it seems like Locke has really lost his faith in it, thanks to "Henry". Locke's got himself a new obsession; re-creating that map he saw. Still though, when Locke went to the locker door to ask "Henry" about the button, oh man, that expression "Henry" had was amazing and creepy and shrewd and oh so good!
O.O "Henry" really was creepy in this one!! When he suddenly chuckled and said "They'll never give you Walt."... Oh man, did I mention, how much I like him?
Creepy guy = Ilona's taste (Haha)
I knew right when we started this Lost watch that you would like him! I know you so well, lol! I couldn't wait until he appeared in the show because I couldn't wait to hear you talk about how much you like him.
I do know what his name is and you have no idea how many times I've accidentally typed it in my discussions. I can't wait until I can stop typing "Henry".
When Jack was interrogating him about the trade, I thought the same thing right away, that "Henry" was basically admitting that he was an Other by saying "They'll never give you Walt." But then I remembered that "Henry" has done nothing but lie. What if he's just saying that because he's playing off Jack's belief? If Jack told him he wanted to make a trade and didn't say the name Walt, would "Henry" still have said Walt's name? We know how "Henry" loves to play mind games and how absolutely amazing he is at it!
I felt so sad for Bernard, when novody wanted to help him with bulding up a sign...
He was so full of energy, when he came up with his plan and told Hurley to get everyone together. Even though, it was kinda funny, when Rose gave him backtalk in front of the group and to see Bernard getting nervous about it. xD But despite, it hurt hearing her talk about wrong hope, as she had so much hope as for Bernard to have survived before... Though it wasn't really like hoping, but knowing back in that time. She actually is pretty much of a realist I think. Anyway, I don't like to see the two of them fighting.
I agree about feeling kind of bad for Bernard. I thought Rose was a little bit mean with how she put him down in front of everyone. After seeing their backstory and finding out she wanted to stay and why, I totally understood. I felt that she was right about what she said but it was kind of mean to say it the way she said it right in front of everyone. She was just so tired of him "always trying to to", wasting the little bit of time they have left with each other trying to fix something that can't be fixed.
She's also right that he's giving false hope. He's energetic and enthusiastic about his idea but that energy and enthusiasm is hope-inducing. Yes, there was a plane that went overhead when it dropped the food but that doesn't mean other planes would randomly go overhead. Should that same plane, obviously belonging to the Dharma Initiative or at least hired by them, fly overhead again, would they really help? Do they know what's going on on the island or do they assume everything is going as planned? In other words, would they ignore an S.O.S. sign? Well, I honestly don't think it hurts to build it. It's not like they have that much else to do.
I can understand why Bernard lost helpers. Like Rose said, it's a management problem. Bernard wasn't a very good manager. He was telling everyone what to do, giving out orders and not willing to listen to suggestions. I also had an issue with the process he was using. First of all, why work on the thickness of one letter? It's going to take forever! I would have done one row of black rocks to spell out each letter and then work on thickening each letter until you get to that three rows of rocks he was suggesting. That way, it would stand out more and might even be recognizable as an S.O.S. even with one row of rocks. At the very least, it would have brought attention that something man-made looking was down there.
Another thing, they should have first worked on some type of contraption to use to drag a bunch of rocks at the same time. Having people carry a big, heavy rock a half a mile each way is going to take forever. I tried searching the internet for awhile and couldn't find the translations for the stuff Jin said but I wonder if maybe he was suggesting that same thing. I saw him gesturing to the whole sign.
I also hated seeing them fight. They are two of the nicest characters in the show and after seeing how sweet they were together in the flashbacks, it was so sad to see that! But then when Rose's words sank in and Bernard understood why she was angry at him for wasting the little time they'd originally had, I saw on his face how it all clicked into place.
Okay, so this whole Eko and Charlie building a church thing is just silly. There are so many things they could be using their time and energy on, things that really could be useful to build for survival. A church? Really? I mean, I'm not really a religious person and I don't believe in church, but that's not what's making me say this. Just because I don't believe in church for myself doesn't mean that I don't respect what a church means to other people. That's all fine and good but look at their situation. Now is not the time, nor is it necessary to have a building in which to practice your faith. In their situation, a church is more of a want rather than a need. You can practice your faith and religion without a building dedicated to it. Let's concentrate on shelters and storage and protection.
Btw, but Jack's explanation why to have choosen Kate to accompany him was awful! xD "I only asked you, because they don't want you." Haha, and her look on that was the best!!
Lol, yes! The caught in a net scene! One of my favorites.
And I also thought that line was really harsh and her expression... it hurt. But then he added "They didn't want me either" so he really didn't mean it as an insult. He was just stating a fact. You saw the instant change from hurt to understanding on Kate's face when he added that last part.
It also somehow hurt me, that Rose has lied to Bernard for such a long time, though of course I can understand why she did. Poor Bernard... and poor Rose either... I totally can understand now Rose not wanting to leave the island. It's so sad AND great (because of the new chance) at the same time. I soooo loved Bernard's reaction, when she finally told him! TEARS AGAIN! RONARD!... or Berose! Whatever...
Rose and Locke at the airport flashback!
That explains a lot of her words to him.
And to the very end: Michael! O.O
Yes, sad that Rose had to lie but Bernard was just not listening to what SHE wanted. He was so preoccupied with what HE wanted that he was going to waste away her remaining time and wouldn't realize what he did until she was gone. Then he'd spend the rest of his life regretting squandering away the little time they had.
So now it seems Locke isn't the only one who wants to stay! It made me wonder how a rescue team would handle that. If a rescue team arrives and someone says they want to stay on the island, would the rescue team force you to get on the boat or helicopter or whatever? Or would they let you stay? I know that everyone has the freedom of choice, but would they assume it's some sort of mental trauma making you want to stay? Or do they not care because they're obligated to do their jobs, which is to rescue any and all people? It'd be interesting to find out and if I ever meet someone who does search and rescue, I'll definitely pick their brain about it!
Omg, that ending!! Michael! Can't wait to see more!
I almost forgot! Something important in the flashback. Remember when Rose was talking to the healer, Isaac of Uhuru? Isaac said some very interesting and probably really important stuff about places in the world having healing powers. He even used the word 'magnetic'! I'm going to post that under quotes because I really liked what he said and found it very important!
Favorite quotes/moments:Bernard: I know, I know. It's crazy. We just met 5 months ago. But 5 months is long enough because I knew after 5 minutes.
Rose: I've been in remission for the last couple of years. But now it's back and this time it's not going away. My doctor says I have about a year -- maybe a little longer.
Bernard: [after a moment] You haven't answered my question.
Bernard: [to Eko] I think I liked you better when you just hit people with your stick.
Isaac: There are certain places with great energy -- spots on the Earth like the one we're above now. Perhaps this energy is geological -- magnetic. Or perhaps it's something else.
later...
Isaac: It's not that you can't be healed. Like I said, there's different energies. This is not the right place for you.
Rose: Where is the right place?
Isaac: I wish I knew.
