A little over an hour after locating Logan with Cerebro and Maeve's teleported trip to Kenya to recruit Logan

Seeing as the group had grown, Charles had had them relocate to the parlor room. The room wasn't open to the students without invitation so they would maintain privacy. Not only did this room provide more seating, but the seating was more comfortable and the ambiance more relaxed, less trip-to-the-principal's-office for the students.
Charles checked his watch. It had been about an hour since Maeve had left. Not knowing much about her, regarding both her mutant ability or her powers of persuasion in recruiting Logan, he could only guess at how long it would be before she returned and his guess was that not nearly enough time had passed.
Charles addressed the new addition to their group. "Jean, we'll fill you in as soon as our guest returns. Now, it's completely your decision whether you choose to participate or not but either way, I trust I can depend on your discretion? I'd rather none of the other students hear of this, including Scott."

"Of course, Professor. I ... I want to help," Jean asserted, perched anxiously on the edge of a sofa. From the moment Peter had shown up unexpectedly and asked her to meet with him and Charles, her curiosity was nearly on par with her apprehension. She was honored to be asked, to be included on what must be an important matter. But for the Professor to ask her to hide it from Scott, the one person in the world she felt she could trust, made her uneasy.
"Seems like we had a lot of new arrivals at the school today," she observed. Hope, the frightened girl upstairs, Peter himself, some fast-talking psycho clad in black and red spandex that Peter had mentioned, and a woman he'd repeatedly referred to as 'Dollface.'

"Jean, we'll fill you in as soon as our guest returns. Now, it's completely your decision whether you choose to participate or not but either way, I trust I can depend on your discretion? I'd rather none of the other students hear of this, including Scott."
"Of course, Professor. I ... I want to help," "Seems like we had a lot of new arrivals at the school today,"
Too antsy to possibly sit down, Peter stood with his back leaning against the wall closest to Jean who was sitting across from Charles on the sofa as they conversed. His part of the pre-mission was a slice of cake, as it was no issue persuading Jean to come speak with the Professor. Whenever anything went down at the school, it was always an honour for anyone to be considered to be apart of it. Peering up at the clock, Peter tapped his fingers impatiently on his arms which were folded over his chest, as their new acquaintance and accomplice had been gone for quite some time.
"Yes, and speaking of new arrivals, ghosty seems to be taking a while. Do you think there's been a complication with her trying to get our good friend razor knuckles on board?" Peter asked as he raised his eyebrows in question. Charles seemed to trust her, yet how much could they really depend on their new friend to help lead them to victory?

Charles turned to Peter with a quirked brow. "It has only been an hour. If you feel you could accomplish faster the task of traveling to Kenya and convincing a particularly ornery man into assisting in the rescue of a stranger being held in one of the lairs of the same people who'd treated him as a lab rat and, mind you, who he'd recently escaped from, by all means," he said dryly with a sweeping gesture toward the door.
Speak of the devil, Charles had felt that distance presence again in the middle of his ramble and recognized it as Maeve. She was back in the mansion, though he wasn't sure where and he didn't give her away.

***Maeve enters from Kenya - Serengeti Plain/Ororo's Village***
Unsure of where Charles might be or who he might be with, Maeve had popped back to his office in ghost form. The room was empty but she heard muffled voices and in a straight line through walls and furniture, walked directly toward them until she finally found the group in a cozier sitting room. There was a new face amongst them. A pretty young girl who had a kind and unthreatening look to her. Maeve was about to make her presence known but paused when she picked up on what Charles was saying.
”...accomplish faster the task of traveling to Kenya and convincing a particularly ornery man into assisting in the rescue of a stranger being held in one of the lairs of the same people who'd treated him as a lab rat and, mind you, who he'd recently escaped from, by all means.”
So, Speedy had a problem with the length of time she’d taken. Of course, with his ability, everything everyone else did probably felt like a snail’s pace. Still though, the jibe at her ego entitled her to attempt a jibe at his.
“Aw, you missed me,” came the disembodied voice directly beside Peter.

Even with her mental abilities, Jean was having a hard time keeping up with this conversation that hadn't even really started yet. Between Peter's nicknames and the Professor's winding recap of whatever events were unfolding, she felt herself losing ground. She was about to request a second, slower explanation when a disembodied female voice cut through the awkward silence.
“Aw, you missed me,”
A tiny yelp escaped her, for which Jean chided herself. She should have been able to sense the presence of someone else in the room. She wondered if the Professor had done so, without letting them on. "I take it that's 'Ghosty'," she said, adding a polite wave to the empty air near Peter. "Hi, I'm Jean."

Peter shook his head as a slight snicker was heard coming from his throat, ”Look, man. All I`m saying is...,”
“Aw, you missed me,”
The sudden entrance of the female voice in Peter`s ear startled his whole being, and within the blink of an eye Peter`s spontaneous burst of speed sent his backside flying into the nearby bookshelf. His hands out alongside his body, Peter grasped onto the bookshelf as he had nearly sent the entire tower of books crashing onto him, only a few loose books that were on the shelf that decided to fall. ”Well, that`s one way to make a re-entrance,” Peter finally exhaled the breath he had been holding out of fright.

”Well, that`s one way to make a re-entrance,”
"I take it that's 'Ghosty'," "Hi, I'm Jean."
Maeve quietly chuckled to herself but schooled her features before turning from ghost mode to fully tangible. Only the hint of amusement remained on her face. "Nice to meet you, Jean. I'm Maeve." Proving she could be just as fast as Peter but in a different way, Maeve's sim instantly teleported from her spot in the corner to the bookcase where Peter stood. She leaned down and retrieved the books that had fallen, putting them back in their place as she spoke. "Ghosty. Is that what you're calling me?" she asked, figuring he was the brainchild behind that nickname. It was fitting in a way, especially given the fact nobody here knew exactly what it was she could do.
Her bruised ego was feeling much better after her little payback but just to rub it in, Maeve's sim disappeared from beside the bookcase and reappeared crossed legged on the couch in the blink of an eye. "I'm sorry I scared you," she said to Jean on the couch across from her. "But he deserved it." She gestured toward Peter, a slight smile on her face to show she'd intended no malice with her actions.

"Nice to meet you, Jean. I'm Maeve. ...I'm sorry I scared you, but he deserved it."
"Totally," Jean agreed, still trying to contain her laughter at Peter's freakout. Even though Peter was a friend, he could be a bit full of himself. Especially when he tried to appear completely in charge of the situation but failed miserably. The new arrival was an elegant brunette, probably not much older than Jean but certainly more sophisticated and confident.
And apparently very powerful. Charles' scolding remark to Peter came back to her, reminding her that she still hadn't been given an explanation of what was happening or what was expected of her. Or who this Maeve woman was and why they were helping her. "Sorry, did you really just go to Africa and back in the last hour?" Jean inquired.

"Ghosty. Is that what you're calling me?"
Peter smirked at the brunette who had been picking up after his involuntary mess he had created on the floor, "Gotta admit, kind of has a nice ring to it. But don't let it get to your head," Peter stepped away from the bookshelf before he caused any more damage.
"I'm sorry I scared you," "But he deserved it."
"Apparently I did," Peter mocked her comment as he obnoxiously plopped down in the nearest armchair, "Then again, when don't I?" Peter admitted in defeat as he grabbed an apple off of the fruit bowl on side table and toyed with it in his hands. Peter liked to cause trouble, and it always came back to bite him one way or another. Though, ever since he arrived at the mansion that day the control over his speed seemed to dwindle. The uncontrollable burst into the bookshelf left him puzzled as it wouldn't have happened if he was in total control. Something was rather off, yet he ignored the problem as he pressed onward to listen into the conversation unfolding at hand.
"Sorry, did you really just go to Africa and back in the last hour?"
"She's enlisted razor knuckles to help us out," Peter spoke confidently as he pointed the apple in her direction, "You-you did convince him...didn't you?" Peter eyed Maeve as he spoke warily, slowly moving the apple to his teeth to take a bite of it. Only to realize mid chewing that it was fake. "Damn it, Charles! Why you gotta fool a hungry man?" Peter spat the chewed bits styrofoam into an empty vase on the same side table he picked the fake fruit up from.

"Sorry, did you really just go to Africa and back in the last hour?"
Charles watched Peter pick up one of the fruits from the decorative fruit bowl and leaned forward, trying to interject before Maeve could answer Jean. "That's not--" But Peter piped in to answer for her, also effectively cutting off Charles' warning.
"She's enlisted razor knuckles to help us out," "You-you did convince him...didn't you?"
Charles had been watching the events unfold with amusement but when things went on a bit longer than necessary and he couldn't get a word in edgewise, he merely crossed his arms and sat back patiently, allowing Peter to learn on his own.
"Damn it, Charles! Why you gotta fool a hungry man?"
"Well, I did try to warn you but I couldn't get a word in edgewise," he said dryly. "Now, perhaps we should let Maeve catch us up?"

"Sorry, did you really just go to Africa and back in the last hour?"
Maeve was about to answer but stopped when she saw Charles lean forward in his chair.
"That's not--"
Apparently, Peter had been distracted with the apple to have noticed Charles' sudden shift in posture and took her hesitation to answer as an opportunity to answer on her behalf.
"She's enlisted razor knuckles to help us out," "You-you did convince him...didn't you?"
"Of cour--" Peter's face screwed up and he began spitting out the apple, only it was not looking so much like apple on the way out. A small laugh escaped her before she could cover it with a cough.
"Damn it, Charles! Why you gotta fool a hungry man?"
"Well, I did try to warn you but I couldn't get a word in edgewise," "Now, perhaps we should let Maeve catch us up?"
Maeve's eyes had shifted to Jean, her expression one of amusement. Charles addressed her and gained back her attention.
"Right, yes." She cleared her throat, getting back to the serious matter at hand and answered the questions aimed at her in the order she'd gotten them. With a point to Jean, she looked up in thought as she recounted her day and ticked off the locations on her fingers. "Yes. Virginia, New York, Africa, then back to New York," she said with a bit of pride. It had been entirely too long since she'd been able share the exploits of her gift with anyone.
Her attention then shifted to Peter. "Logan was the most stubborn, ornery, crotchety man I've ever come across but yes, I convinced him and he should be on his way. Oh, and he may be bringing someone," she added, her attention going to Charles. "Remember in your big metal sphere thing--"
"Cerebro," Charles interjected.
"Yes, Cerebro. We saw Logan with another figure represented as a mutant. A young lady. I didn't get to talk to her much but she seems like a good kid. She's the only one of our kind there so I hope you don't mind that I asked Logan to extend an invitation for her to join."
"No, no. That's perfectly fine. I'm glad you did. She'll be safe here."
That had been Maeve's exact line of thinking. Maeve nodded her agreement, her eyes skimming the room but stopping when she caught Jean's expression. "I take it Jean hasn't been filled in?" Charles gave Maeve a gesture to proceed.
She took in a deep breath and let it out on a tired sigh, her attention going back to Jean. "Short version. I'm the assistant to the head of Trask Industries. Stryker's been booted and my new boss is the head of the Purifiers. His first order of business is to clean house, starting Monday, with a mutant that's being held within one of the basement levels. I came here asking for help with breaking him out."

"I take it Jean hasn't been filled in? ... Short version. I'm the assistant to the head of Trask Industries. Stryker's been booted and my new boss is the head of the Purifiers. His first order of business is to clean house, starting Monday, with a mutant that's being held within one of the basement levels. I came here asking for help with breaking him out."
Jean couldn't understand why Peter was so gung ho about this outing, but then again that was his default setting. Frankly, everything Maeve was saying made her feelings shift from bad to worse. They all knew the name Trask Industries, the imprisonment and testing that they had performed on mutants as part of the Sentinel program. And this woman worked for them? The Purifiers was an even scarier term. A group of religious zealots they all had to be careful of in the outside world. She was fairly sure some of the newer students had survived Purifier attacks or had been placed in the school because their families couldn't protect them.
"Who exactly are we breaking out, Professor?" Jean asked hesitantly. He must trust this woman or he wouldn't have allowed her into the inner sanctum. He wouldn't be plotting a dangerous mission merely on her word, but Jean didn't dare to pry into Charles' mind. Peter was a different matter, though. All his emotions and motives were easily on display. Once she'd moved past his annoyance at the fake fruit, she managed to find the prominent thoughts of 'Lehnsherr,' 'Magneto' and 'father.'
"Erik Lehnsherr? Magneto?!" she cried aloud without thinking. "The poster child for when mutants go bad? You really think that's a good idea, Professor? He hurt people, other mutants -- he hurt you!"

Peter had laid back since the whole flying into bookshelf and apple deception had taken it's place as Charles and Maeve caught Jean up to speed on what was going on and where they were at now. That was, until Jean's discovery of their mission's end game began to rile her senses.
"Erik Lehnsherr? Magneto?!" "The poster child for when mutants go bad? You really think that's a good idea, Professor? He hurt people, other mutants -- he hurt you!"
"Jeanie, Jeanie," Peter sighed as he threw his glance in Jean's direction, "Look. I'm picking up what you're putting down here. Magneto did some pretty terrible stuff, and there's not a single doubt in my mind that he's wronged every single one of us in this room. But," Shifting his body forward in his seat, Peter brought himself sitting upward to meet Jean eye to eye across from where they sat, "We all have a past. And at the end of the day, Magneto is...Erik is one of us." Peter wasn't sure if he should have spoken up in the first place, but hey - usually he shouldn't. But in this circumstance, especially after his talk about Erik with Charles earlier, he had to defend what he knew was right.

Deadpool largely ignored what the other mutants were talking about, he kept an ear opening hoping to pick up an interesting word but so far it was all blah blah blah. Instead he danced around the background inspecting the bookcases pulling one out and waiting for something to happen.
"Nope." he let that book fall to the ground before pulling out another "Not that one." another "Not that one either." and another and another "No secret anything in this one, maybe it's not in the books then the only other place it could be..." Deadpool eyed a giant statue bust and picked it up weighing it in each hand, trying to rip its head off.
"Maybe it needs to be broken." the whites of his eye mask holes grew smaller as his eyes met with the statues.

"Erik Lehnsherr? Magneto?!" "The poster child for when mutants go bad? You really think that's a good idea, Professor? He hurt people, other mutants -- he hurt you!"
"Jeanie, Jeanie," "Look. I'm picking up what you're putting down here. Magneto did some pretty terrible stuff, and there's not a single doubt in my mind that he's wronged every single one of us in this room. But," "We all have a past. And at the end of the day, Magneto is...Erik is one of us."
This argument would go on all night. Both were too emotionally invested in their arguments; Peter with arguing on the side of his father and Jean with arguing on the side of the person many of the students saw as a paternal figure. Despite being directly yet unintentionally affected during Erik's actions, Charles would have to be the unbiased mediator.
He put a silencing hand up to Peter, looking to Jean. He spoke in a calm, matter-of-fact tone. "Erik has always fought against injustice toward mutant-kind. He did not intentional cause me harm. This," his hands padded the arms of the wheelchair, "was an unfortunate accident." Though he kept it hidden, there were times Charles struggled, found anger and frustration over being confined to a chair, but then the memory of the look of anguish on Erik's face when he'd realized what had happened sent Charles back into detached acceptance. Charles turned his eyes toward Peter. "Though I agree his methods are too extreme and sometimes reflect the drastic actions humans have taken against mutants." Splitting his attention between the two now, he continued before either could begin to debate again. "We are not here to discuss the rights or wrongs of the past. Someone is in danger, not because of his actions in the past, but because he is a mutant. And, might I add," he said, looking to Jean again, "the reason his clock is running out is because after many sessions of interrogations, Erik refuses to give away the location of any mutants. He is fighting for our kind to his grave, or a worse fate of spending his remaining time in a lab where Trask scientists will do their best to extract what they can of his gift in order to weaponize it." Being used to create weapons against your own kind. Charles imagined that would be worse than death to Erik.
In Charles' line of sight, beyond the couch, Wade had picked up a statue. With an exasperated sigh, he took on the tone of a parent chastising a child. "Wade, do not break that. Please put it down. And don't touch anything else," he added when he noticed the books strewn on the floor.
How had he managed to make such a mess in the short time the rest of them had been absorbed in their conversation? Another thing he had missed in his distraction was how quiet their other guest had become. She'd apparently fallen into her own distraction, looking as if she were a million miles away. And then something strange happened. A sort of flicker. Charles blinked, wondering if he'd only imagined it, but no, there it was again. Her astral projection or whatever it was--Charles had yet to fully understand her gift--dimmed slightly, then flickered. He likened it to a lightbulb about to go out. "Maeve, are you alright?"

"Erik Lehnsherr? Magneto?!" "The poster child for when mutants go bad? You really think that's a good idea, Professor? He hurt people, other mutants -- he hurt you!"
'He hurt people, other mutants.' Those words. That argument. It reminded Maeve of her early arguments with Erik. She found herself suddenly thunderstruck.
This," "was an unfortunate accident."
The sound and motion of Charles' hands padding the arms of his wheelchair momentarily caught Maeve's attention. 'He hurt you'. The realization that Erik's actions had led to the paralysis of the man who he called a friend, the man he'd told her to go find because he'd help, sent her spiraling into a rude awakening. How had she forgotten all that had happened? Everything she'd seen and read about? When had she become blind to the things Erik had done in the past? Horrible things that had fueled her end of the heated debates.
Her thoughts back in her real body were overrun, taking away concentration on her simulated self, causing it to sporadically dim and flicker. Denial, disbelief, panic, worry, then realization that somewhere along the way, her hard exterior had cracked and emotions had begun to worm their way in. Deeper and deeper until at some point, they'd seeped into her now racing--
"Maeve, are you alright?"
"What?" Startled back into the surroundings of her simulation, she was unaware her image had shot a little past fully tangible and with that extra wattage, had taken on an ethereal glow for the few seconds it took for her to gather her wits. "Yes. Yes, I'm fine," she waved away as she stood. "Just tired. I should get some sleep. I'll return tomorrow after work. Goodnight," she added with a weary smile then quickly faded out before anything else could be said.

"Wade, do not break that. Please put it down. And don't touch anything else,"
Wade made a mental note to come back and break it another time as there was clearly some secret to it that Professor X didn't want him to know.
"Just tired. I should get some sleep. I'll return tomorrow after work. Goodnight,"
Deadpool walked over to the group as Maeve faded away,
"I may not know how to read but I can read a room and I think that went rather well!"

Jean let the silence in the room after his speech and Maeve's sudden disappearance hang for a while, feeling sufficiently chastened. "I'm sorry, Professor, I just -- I didn't mean to --" she stammered, searching for her own resolve. "I said that I would help, and I meant that. Whatever I can do."
She then turned to Peter. "I'm sorry for prying, but I really didn't see that much in your mind," Jean apologized clumsily. "I mean, I get that you want answers. Even if you might not like them."
"I may not know how to read but I can read a room and I think that went rather well!"
Jean returned her attention to the Professor. "I still don't understand him," she admitted in a hushed voice, referring to the red and black whirlwind that was doing his own brand of redecorating the room.

Jean was a sweet young lady who didn't always have an easy time of things, especially where her powers were concerned. He felt bad for causing her discomfort when addressing her concern and attempted to mend things over with light humor.
With a subtle quirk at the corner of his mouth, he gave Jean a mental reply in a dry tone. 'I don't think even he understands him.'
