Same rating from me for the same reason! 4 stars. The last half really saved it, especially that woman's story and Sayid confessing.
Speaking of, I was so convinced that Sayid hadn't done it. He was so adamantly saying he didn't. Still though, what he did was horrible and wrong but unfortunately, he didn't have a choice. If he didn't do what he was ordered to do, they would torture and/or kill his family. He mentioned that in a previous flashback with Nadia, which was why he shot himself in the leg to make it look like Nadia had escaped after shooting him, rather than looking like he helped her.
So we finally got to meet the eye patch guy we saw show up on the monitor when they were in the Pearl station! I don't remember if I mentioned for that episode the fact that they had found a glass eye in the Arrow station. Wonder if it has been Mikhail's or just randomly another glass eye?
I really love that Hurley totally beat Sawyer at table tennis! Such a satisfying feeling, like when Jack beat Sawyer at poker. I know you really love him, Ilona, but sometimes Sawyer needs to be humbled and put in his place! It's good for him.
Oh, and the bet was so funny! No nicknames for a week. He's gonna have such a hard time talking cuz he's gonna have to really think about what comes out of his month. Those nicknames fly so freely, lol!
Back to Mikhail, if I remember correctly, I kinda believed him at first when he said he was the last of the Dharma Initiative. I think maybe because it seemed like Sayid, Kate, and Locke accepted it as truth and didn't give us a reason to doubt. Until Sayid whispered it to Kate. It really liked how they handled that, with Mikhail asking why they were continuing to play this game.
I was really impressed with how Sayid laid out the reasons he knew that Mikhail was an Other. The horse and saddle thing was definitely impressive and so Sherlock Holmes. He'd definitely have a great career as a detective if they ever get out of there, lol!
Oh, and I can't believe Mikhail straight up shot Bea Klugh! Man, those Others are really intense. She ordered him to do it though and he argued with her. People posted the translation of the Russian, since they didn't provide translations on screen.
Klugh: Mikhail! You know what to do.
Mikhail: We still have another way.
Klugh: We cannot risk. You know what to do.
Mikhail: We still have another way.
Klugh: We cannot risk. You know the conditions.
Mikhail: We have another way!
Klugh: They know us. We will not let them [unintelligible]. You know what to do. It is an order.
And yes, Mikhail's cat definitely had TWO ties to Sayid's past! First of all, it looked so similar to the cat that that woman had. The woman's cat had a dark patch on its nose so it's not the same cat miraculously now on the island.
The second connection is that Mikhail named the cat Nadia, which is the name of the woman that Sayid loves and had helped escape.
As for why Sayid lied to her in the beginning, really, he was lying to her husband. She didn't go into that room until the last couple visits, it seems. I think he lied because he wanted to live and/or not spend who knows how long being put through the same things that he had put the woman through.
Haha, maybe Sayid SHOULD have hit Locke for several reasons! Definitely for entering 77 but also for the fact that Locke seemed to think it was totally cool to leave Mikhail alone and go play a stupid computer chess game! What the heck were you thinking, Locke?! Why is he so obsessed with proving that he can do something? That was definitely something about the ep that seemed a little bit hard to believe. I mean, if Mikhail had been in that room when they'd knocked him out and tied him up, that would have made more sense. Locke sitting at the desk but Mikhail over to the side, Locke's attention on the computer so he doesn't realize Mikhail got through his bonds. But no, Locke completely left the room. Dumb move, Locke! Dumb.
I swear, I think the only reason he went back to that stupid computer was because Mikhail said earlier that it was impossible to beat and that he'd been trying for 10 years. If he wouldn't have said that, I think maybe Locke wouldn't have let his need to prove himself override his common sense.
And last and final note which I feel compelled to add every time they make an appearance... Nikki and Paulo suck.
Favorite scenes/moments:The woman's cat story.
Nikki: Yeah, but it wasn't really yours to begin with.
Sawyer: A, it was mine to begin with when I took it.
B, who the hell are you? And C, because I'm fair, I'm going to let you play me for it.
Sawyer: Ooh, looks like crouching tiger and hidden dragon got something good. Lay it on me.
Sun: No nicknames. If you lose, no nicknames for anyone for a week.
Charlie: Nice!
