4 stars from me! Maybe even 4 1/2. Very strong episode and what happened to Locke totally got me in the feels.
Man, Ben has a freakin' creeptastically shrewd mind! Definitely one of the best bad guys ever written.
I love Kate, Sayid, and Locke's WTF expressions at the beginning as they watch Jack throw the ball around, chat with Juliet, then chat and shake hands with Ben. So funny! I can totally understand why Kate things they drugged him or did something to him. He's acting so calm and at home with them.
Locke's flashbacks are so heartbreaking. His dad has ruined his life so many times. Just when you think he's gotten away from him, something happens to reel him back in. It was his dad who had sought him out in the first place as a con. He lost Helen because of his obsession over sitting outside his dad's house. In this one, he finally seemed like he'd been out of his life, but along comes Peter Talbot, this young guy who's rightfully concerned over the man his mom is going to marry.
I almost wish that Locke wouldn't have lied to that guy. I wish he would have told him the truth. I don't think Locke refrained from telling the truth because he was trying to protect Peter though. At least it didn't feel that way. It seemed like he wanted to confront his dad on his own.
I was so shocked that Peter had been found dead. I knew Anthony Cooper was a scum but holy shit, I didn't know he was a murdering scum. I almost believed the asshole when he told Locke that he didn't kill Peter; that he was a conman, not a murderer. But then he followed that up with pushing Locke out the window of an 8-story building. Holy shit! I hadn't seen that coming. I was so shocked.
How horrible that that was the reason he landed in a wheelchair. That meant that he was probably reminded of his dad at every waking minute of his life. Just thinking of the fact he can't walk, any time he looked at his wheelchair, every time he felt helpless because of his paralysis. What a horrible, hateful man his dad is.
I loved every scene with Locke and Ben. it's a constant mental chess game with the two of them and sorry Locke, Ben is grandmaster of the mindfuck. He will checkmate you any time you try to go up against him in a battle of wits.
I also really loved Jack and Kate's scene in the rec room. It was almost heartbreaking, especially for me as a Jater, to see how Jack seemed so cold toward Kate. But then he stepped back to whisper in her ear that he'd come back for her. Aw, my Jate heart melted.
I got teary-eyed a couple times! Locke's scene at the hospital when he looks so broken and teary-eyed at what his father did to him and also, Danielle's expression when she finally got to see her daughter, Alex, for the first time in 16 years! Speaking of, I'm so glad that Sayid got to plant that little bug in her mind about the fact that her mother being dead is a lie.
Oh man, Jack attempting to strike a deal with Ben to let his friends go as soon as he leaves the island, I could just feel the glee coming off of Ben. He was just eating up the fact that he could gleefully make that promise, knowing that Jack and Juliet's way off the island was in the process of being blown up. And Ben's speech to Locke at the end about Locke having done him a favor by blowing it up was so great!
There were a couple neat little connections in his flasbhacks. One was the MacCutcheon whiskey Anthony pours for himself, the same brand that Charles Widmore said a gulp of was worth more than Desmond could make and later, the brand on the island that Hurley and Charlie got Desmond drunk off of. The second connection was the physical therapist telling Locke that he didn't want to hear what he can't do which echos Locke's "don't tell me what I can't do."
Lastly, holy shit, that ending. The surprise in that big box. The "Man from Tallahassee" that Ben told Richard to go get. Ben is freakin' prepared for anything. We know that there's now way Richard could have run off to go grab Anthony Cooper. That means he's been there for who knows how long as a pawn in Ben's back pocket. Stranded on an island after a plane crash and Locke STILL can't get away from his dad!
Favorite quotes/moments:
Locke: The man from Tallahassee? What is that? Some kind of code? Ben: No, John, unfortunately we don't have a code for "There's a man in my closet with a gun to my daughter's head." Although we obviously should.
Locke: Where do you get electricity? Ben: We have two giant hamsters running in a massive wheel at our secret underground lair...
Ben: You've been here 80 days, John. I've been here my entire life! So how is it that you think you know this island better than I do? Locke: Because you're in the wheelchair, and I'm not.
Locke: I can't do this— Kincaid: John. You fell eight stories and survived, OK? I don't want to hear about what you can't do.
Ben: Do you remember earlier, John, when you called me a cheater? When you said I didn't deserve to live on this island? Well get this: There I was, shaking hands with Jack, and thinking I'd give almost anything to come up with a way to stop him from leaving... because to let him go would be a sign of weakness, of failure, of defeat. People would see that. They would know it. And that, John, would be the end of me. But to kill him... that would be cheating. Because my people also heard me make a promise, and to break my word... that would be the end of me too. And then you came striding out of the jungle, John, to make my dream come true.

4 stars from me too! Very good episode! Yes, I loved that WTF expression in their faces at the beginning too! XD And additonally, was Kate looking jelous, when Juliette touched Jack's arm? Also Sayid looked at her like noticing that on Kate's face as well. But then, who hasn't noticed that love triangle, lol. Gosh, seeing Locke's dad, made me so angry again. I totally hate that guy! How can someone destroy the life of the own son? I think Locke lied to Peter because he wanted to protect him by confronting his dad all alone. Or he just wanted to leave that book of his past closed and didn't thought his dad would go that far... So far his dad is the most unlikeable person in the show. Well, but I'm pretty sure that was on purpose. I wouldn't have guessed it was his dad who brought him into the wheelchair, and that by pushing him out the window on a high building. O.o Poor Locke... He has to hate his father like hell. Omg, me too!! The back and forth between Ben and Locke is just amazing! And agree! Ben is the puppetmaster, even though in the start it seemed to be Locke to lead the game! But you actually never know when Ben is saying the truth and when not. What he is thinking at all. I mean he actually doesn't really talk like the usual baddie, but like he exactly knows what to say in the right moment. Just like the sentence about that submarine and that Jack would leave with it soon. So manipulative! And in the end he really got what he wanted! Everything was planned! So awesome! I really liked that Jate scene, have to admit that. But my heart will always stay with Skate! <3 Hurray, Locke's dad around... O.o XD
