I glanced over, noticing the sadness that had come over her at my question. It was tough, thinking about family and friends but I tried to keep things positive. "Ah, well congrats to them," I said with a smile. "I was visiting a good friend. She'd just moved there not too long ago." I paused in my searching and sat back. "You know, it was the first time I've ever used a passport. Thought this would be a good way to get myself to start seeing more of the world." I glanced around at the surroundings and smirked, trying to find whatever amusement I could in our situation. "Careful what you wish for, right?"

Time passes and it's now mid day.
The woman who drowned had been identified as Joanna.
Some may notice that Jack is looking very worn down.
Some people are becoming aware of a water supply shortage.

Joanna set the patched up tarp down on to the sandy ground that she had patched up with a needle and some thread that she had found in a suitcase. She placed the needle and spool of thread into her messenger bag that she had laid down a few inches from her. It may come in handy one day, she figured.
"It's not much, but it should keep you dry at night" Joanna told Heidi with a smile on her face.

"Thanks for the help," I said, returning the smile. "Guess I should have taken my mom up on her offer to teach me how to sew." I studied the portion that I had patched up. "Not exactly neat and straight lines but I'm only looking to stay dry and warm, not win some shelter fashion contest."
I stood and started folding up the material to stash it in Sarah's shelter while we'd be collecting other essentials. "Thank goodness this was passed up by so many people because of the holes 'cause I don't know the first thing about weaving palm fronds together." I paused, looking thoughtful. "I wouldn't be surprised if that Locke guy knew how though."

"You're welcome" Joanna told her as she placed her messenger bag over her shoulder and glanced at the bald man who was busy with something, "I wouldn't doubt that. He must be Bear Grylls father or something"

I stashed the tarp in Sarah's shelter and headed back in the direction of the supplies. "One one hand, it's kinda scary--all those knives, how much he knows about all this stuff, how he seems to be so happy to be here--but I'm also really fascinated by it. I'd love to know what his story is." I ran the name that she'd mentioned through my mind and couldn't place it. "Who's Bear Grylls?"

"Who's Bear Grylls?"
It surprised her a bit that Heidi didn't know who Bear Grylls was. It was all she ever saw when she used to live with her father, and when she visited him.
"He's a survivalist with his own show called Man. Vs. Wild, where goes to these places and shows people how to survive there. I wished now that I paid more attention to the show everytime my father watched it. It would have come in handy about now" She explained.

"Oooh. Yah, I've heard of that show but I've only seen a very little bit of it only one time." I paused, recalling her earlier statement. "Bear's papa," I said with a delayed chuckle and then laughed a little harder before saying, "I think I'll refer to him as Papa Bear from now on."
"I wished now that I paid more attention to the show everytime my father watched it. It would have come in handy about now"
"I hear ya. I just remember thinking, 'oh hell no, why would anyone wanna live like that'. It's definitely not a lifestyle choice I'd make so it didn't really catch my attention. Never in a million years would I have thought it would be a situation forced on me." I sighed as I started rummaging through the pile of wreckage for pieces to use as tent poles. "We'll be okay as long as we've got people like Jack and Sayid and Papa Bear," I said with a grin.

Joanna chuckled at the nickname that Heidi had given Locke.
"I hope you don't mind if I use that nickname once in a while" She told her as she searched through the wreckage, "And I agree. Without them here, I'd hate to see what would happen. It's almost scary to even think about it"

Sarah
Sarah had kept to herself the last few days, she knew it would be for the best. She was feeling stressed out and that usually meant she'd get one of her episodes. She didn't want to freak anyone out, so she kept herself and Mr. Floppers inside her shelter. Now she decided it was time to come out of hiding and find Heidi.
Sarah heard about the girl that drowned, she felt horrible about it. It was sad when people died and she didn't like to think about it.
When Sarah spotted Heidi she ran up to her and smiled, "Hi Heidi!"

"I definitely don't wanna be on his bad side so probably best if we both do in case he sneaks up on us with his ninja-like survivor skills," I said with a chuckle.
"And I agree. Without them here, I'd hate to see what would happen. It's almost scary to even think about it"
I nodded in agreement.
"Hi Heidi!"
I turned and smiled at Sarah. "Hey there, hun. Everything okay?" I studied her, trying to gauge how she was doing. She'd been a little off lately, keeping to herself and to the shelter rather than the lively, outgoing little girl who'd chatter with everyone and had been excited about building sandcastles.

Sarah
"Hey there, hun. Everything okay?" Sarah gave Heidi a quick hug and nodded her head.
"Yeah, i just needed some time. I haven't been feeling the best and I didn't want to spread that around... I just really miss my mom and i'm starting to run out of my pills." she pulled out her bag to show Heidi. "It gets bad when i run out, i had enough to last a week. I was going to get more when i reached my grandmum."

I didn't let my worry over the pills show. "It'll be okay. We'll figure something out," I reassured as I hugged her in return. Best thing to do was to take her mind off of it. We would face that when we absolutely needed to. In the meantime, I was still holding onto hope for rescue. "Have you met Joanna yet? Joanna, this is Sarah and this right here," I petted one of the soft ears of the stuffed bunny, "is Mr. Floppers."

It shocked her a bit to see a young child to be on the island, other than Walt. She thought he had been the only one there, but she was wrong.
"Hi Sarah" Joanna said with a smile on her face as she looked up from the wreakage at the young girl. She then looked at the stuff bunny that she held, "And hello, Mr. Floppers"

"It'll be okay. We'll figure something out," Sarah wanted to believe Heidi, but she wasn't stupid. She knew once the pills wore out, no one would want to be around her. But, she just nodded her head and smiled.
"I hope so, because i don't want to go crazy on everyone."
"Have you met Joanna yet? Joanna, this is Sarah and this right here, is Mr. Floppers."
"Hi Sarah, and hello, Mr. Floppers"
"Hi." she smiled.

Sighing, I tossed aside yet another piece of useless shrapnel. "There's nothing useful here. I think I need to head into the jungle and cut some bamboo to use as poles."
Heading into that jungle was a last resort. I dreaded going in there and was sure most everyone else did as well. "You don't have to go with," I reassured Joanna. "You could stay here with Sarah if you'd like."

Joanna looked up from the wreakage and nodded her head at Heidi. Hopefully while Heidi was gone, she would be able to find some useful items.
"Be careful out there in the jungle" She told her and went back to searching for a moment, before glancing at Sarah, "Want to help?"

"Anything that would be useful in making a shealter" Joanna told her and picked up a small travel suitcase.
Joanna rummaged through it only to find a used tooth brush, some books, and a broken cell phone. All of which were usless in building a shealter. The books might have been useless for the shealter, but they might come in handy when she needed to trade something with Sawyer. So she set those a side and began to look through them again.
"So how old are you Sarah?" Joanna asked trying to start a conversation with the young girl.

"Be careful out there in the jungle,"
"Thanks, I will. I shouldn't be long."
I listened to the two as I picked out a piece of shrapnel with a sharp edge to cut bamboo. Feeling confident that the two would get along fine without me, I headed for the outskirts. Standing at the line of trees, I took a shaky breath, telling myself that everything will be okay.

Sarah nodded and kept looking through the things around her. "I'm eight," Letting out a yawn she placed Mr. Floppers down and continued to look around. She was starting to get a headache, but their wasn't anything anyone could do about that. "How old are you?" she asked with a smile.

"I just turned twenty-four a couple of months ago", she told her as she found some zip lock ties that could come in handy for tying something together.
Joanna placed those on top of the sewn tarp and began to search through the suitcase.
"So was this your time flying?" Joanna asked.

Kate stood near the wreckage, holding a hand over her eyes to block the glare of the sun as she listening and watched Sayid explain the devices he'd built and how they would need to be set up.
"Three antenna. Three points of a triangle. One here on the beach. Another, Kate will position in the jungle, roughly two kilometers in, and the third I'll take to high ground, up there. If the French transmission is coming from somewhere within our triangulation, I'll be able to locate the source. But there are two complications."
"Of course there are." Boone said dryly.
Sayid ignored the comment and pushed on. "The power cells I grafted onto the antennas are dry. There's no telling how long they'll last. A minute -- maybe more, maybe less."
That wasn't much time at all, Kate thought and followed Sayid's line of logic. "So we have to wait until we're in position before we switch them on."
"Wait. Wait a second," Boone interjected. "How are we going to be able to tell that we're actually in the right position? We have no way to communicate with each other."
In answer, Sayid grabbed three bottle rockets from a pack.
Kate's eyebrows raised. "Bottle rockets?"
"Thank God for fireworks smugglers," Sayid said before turning back to his serious self. "Now, when I'm in position I'll fire off my rocket. When you two see it, you fire yours. As soon as the last one has gone up we all switch on our antennas."
Sounded simple enough to Kate so what was the problem? "Okay, but you said there are two complications."
Sayid paused, saving the worst of the news for last. "The battery in the transceiver is dead. Without the transceiver all of this is for nothing. Something from a laptop computer would probably work, but I've not been able to find anything."
Kate's hand dropped to her side and she grimaced. There was one person here that was hoarding everything and there was a good chance she'd be able to find what they needed. "I think I might know where to look."
Without waiting for a response, Kate headed to Jack's old shelter.

After teaching Sarah the basics of Texas Hold 'Em and then playing a few rounds, I had left her in Jasmine's care so that I could have a little bit of time on my own.
I needed it. It was getting harder to keep up a positive front when even my usually high optimism was starting to waver. The frequency of talk of rescue never coming, of too much time having passed, seemed to be increasing by the hour. Why couldn't everyone else just do what I did by pretending everything would be fine? There was still hope in my mind but I felt it becoming more and more of an act to distract myself from reality or straight up freaking out.
It was pretty quiet by the fuselage. I figured it'd be a good place to avoid other people as nobody wanted to be near it, including myself. I skirted as close to the line of trees as I could when I walked passed it.
The sound of a breeze rustling the foliage beyond the trees was comforting. Until I realized that there was no breeze and it was only a small area that had emitted the sound. An icy chill through my veins froze me in my spot. I stared hard into the darkness of the jungle, all sorts of horrible thoughts sending my heart pounding fiercely.
'I should run. Wait, no. If I move or make a sound, it might bring attention to me,' I warred with myself. I couldn't tear my eyes away from the spot the noise had come from and finally, when the source of it stumbled into sight, I gave a huge sigh of relief and put a hand over my racing heart.
"You scared me," I said with an embarrassed chuckle.

*** Sayid enters Fuselage and Surrounding Area from Jungle Outskirts ***
Sayid stepped forward through the jungle outskirts, noticing the rock and dirt starting to meet sand below his feet and the bushes and trees starting to thin out. He was close to the beach but still had a ways to go. Sayid peered through the trees as far as his lit torch would allow to notice that he was close to the fuselage wreckage. Stepping out of the bushes and into plain sight of the wreckage, he also landed in the sight of Heidi who seemed rather startled.
"You scared me,"
"Sorry about that, I was moving as quick as I possibly could to get back here," Sayid said in a panicked tone, "Where is Jack? I need to speak with him immediately," Sayid asked, attempting to mask the panic in his face however his voice noted that there was no time to lose and that he needed to get to Jack as quickly as possible.

Any sign of humor dropped from my face and I turned as serious as Sayid. If he was this serious about something, then something was seriously wrong. It wasn't like him. He always seemed so confident and levelheaded despite the crazy situations we'd all faced.
"He's recovering at the caves. Wait, you don't know," I quickly interjected. "Come on, I'll tell you on the way."
I started toward the jungle without room for argument. Nobody should walk this jungle alone, especially at night and he didn't seem to have a moment to lose by standing around and getting filled in so I didn't figure he'd argue anyway. I was scared of this stupid jungle but there was probably nobody I'd feel safer trekking through it with than Sayid.
As I fell in step beside him, some other realizations began to dawn on me. It was late and he was just now rushing into camp, panicked no less. He was looking for Jack. That means he hadn't been at the caves or even the beach or he'd know where Jack was. Where was he all this time? Something must have gone wrong. I wanted to ask what happened but I had the feeling that he and the others in the inner circle didn't always tell the rest of us everything in order to avoid mass panic. Ignorance was bliss, after all. Still, knowing something had probably gone wrong but knowing what it was would leave my imagination to come up with all sorts of horrible scenarios so I planned to ask him after I filled him in on Jack. Perhaps he'd be more inclined to share after I shared. I wouldn't hold my breath though.
"There was a cave-in..." I began as we disappeared into the jungle.
