Of course, Rumplestiltskin didn't care for the murmurs nor the looks upon them. Quite the contrary. He found them amusing if anything. Who thought the beast could dance, right? Well, events of this sort have always been a great opportunity to make deals, and the Dark One was able to acquire any skill he wanted. Time and power were the answer. So he just casually replied the assuring smile of the princess, giving her to understand that he wasn't feeling uncomfortable at all. Then he started them off with a dance, not at all helpless or shy.
He remained silent for some steps until, while pulling her closer after a twirl, he resumed their little chat from before, now with an intention behind that interest. "And when will you be seeing that gentleman again?" the Dark One asked with a slight grin, present yet not too much to wake any more suspicion toward them.

Prince Charming - tempplay by Hollywood Heidi - The crowded dance floor made the process of maneuvering themselves closer a bit slower, but that was a good thing, as seeing his wife bothered made him want to take immediate action to rectify whatever troubled her. David inched them closer with each step and each twirl whenever the opportunity allowed, the slower process helping to make it not seem completely obvious what they were up to. They were still several twirls away from reaching them. The music and the hum of layers and layers of conversation made it difficult to hear the conversations of other couples as they danced by. The fact that the other couples were giving the Dark One and Rose a wide berth would make it virtually impossible. His wife's friendship with Rose and the fact that they'd been in a talking circle with the Dark One earlier would make it a plausible reason why they wouldn't be shying away like the others, but he was sure the shrewd Dark One would know exactly what they were up to, so he planned to blend in more by stopping once they reached the edges along with the other couples. David made idle conversation to help sell the casual 'couple just dancing'. "Have I told you yet how beautiful you look tonight?" he said with a loving grin down at her, knowing he had already, several times. A discreet glance over her shoulder as she answered and he could see that the Dark One's mouth already moving, not wasting time in spinning words into a web for Rose.

Francis let his eyes wander from the Dark One dancing with Rose towards the gentleman who had been in a conversation with said creature before. Finding him alone and unoccupied might be a good opportunity to seek some information, if not about what the Dark One was up to, then about said gentleman himself. Either way, the idea of leaving this circle he was currently in, seemed a good one.
He withdrew from the two kings with a friendly nod, hopefully giving King Stefan the false message of taking more action regarding his request from before, before heading towards the gentleman he had been observing for some moments.
"I see you've made acquaintance with both, the lovely princess and that dubious creature keeping her company on the dance floor just now," Francis started a chat with him, friendly but also very formal, naturally.

"I see you've made acquaintance with both, the lovely princess and that dubious creature keeping her company on the dance floor just now,"
Dracula pleasantly embraced the new company with a welcoming grin, "The Princess is effortless company, a breath of fresh air as some might say. The creature on the other hand, well, let's just say he seems to be the latter," Dracula spoke in agreeance with the gentleman before him, "Please forgive me for not knowing you by name, as I am not from these parts. However, I've seen you by the King's side for most of the evening - I imagine you must be of great importance of the King and the Princess and therefore I hope you address you with the upmost of respects." Dracula inquired as he bowed his head towards the gentleman who appeared to possibly be high in the King's council.

"And when will you be seeing that gentleman again?"
That warm glow of love lit up her face. Her eyes discreetly scanned the area around them. The other couples were giving them a wide berth, yet she still spoke the secret quietly just to be safe. "Tomorrow, at dawn. Oh, Rumplestiltskin, I am relieved and overjoyed. We spent a year apart, unnecessarily trying to sort out our stations in life," she said, pausing for a spin before explaining. "All this time, fate has been on our side. He is a prince!"
Most women would have said it with starry-eyed squealing as if celebrating the victory of capturing the heart of royalty, but Rose's tone was nothing but relief. Royalty or commoner, she did not care what style of life she lived, only that she lived it with Phillip.

"Have I told you yet how beautiful you look tonight?"
Snow was aware of her husband's plan to sell the casual 'couple just dancing', so she blended in well immediately.
"And you look just as fine, sir," Snow replied with a smirk, probably fondly enough to make the Dark One not want to overhear them. Or so she hoped at least. But who knew where that creature could have his eyes and ears while being in a conversation himself? Unfortunately, Snow wasn't able to overhear what their conversation was about, or not much of it, that was. However, she could tell that it was about Rose's situation with her prince. That was not at all good! Surely, Rumplestiltskin would see an opportunity to make a deal with her from a situation she felt being in need.
She tried to send David a message via her eyes, giving him to understand that he had to lead them even closer, although that might be risky. Maybe they had to stop Rose from spilling too much at some point even.

"The Princess is effortless company, a breath of fresh air as some might say. The creature on the other hand, well, let's just say he seems to be the latter,"
Aha, this gentleman didn't just look like one but also knew how to express himself in a conversation. That fact, however, left Francis still unimpressed, his features unchanged.
"Please forgive me for not knowing you by name, as I am not from these parts. However, I've seen you by the King's side for most of the evening - I imagine you must be of great importance of the King and the Princess and therefore I hope you address you with the upmost of respects."
And again, aha. So this gentleman had noticed him before, probably because he had been having more than one eye on the king, Rose's father. Otherwise, he might not have recognized him, apart from his looks that identified him as a knight. However, not as the first knight on the King's side. Conclusions, for now, only conclusions, of course.
"Well, well," Francis spoke up again after a little pause of eying the other. Then he suddenly smiled a fake one, naturally. "Know that I find no fault in your conversational skills or manners upon me, Sir. If you don't mind me asking, though," he added with this wary eye again, yet still with the fake friendly smile. "Who had been providing you with the invitation to this event? My apologies, but I'm just curious as you mentioned that you're not from these parts, and, despite my wide-ranged knowledge of people from other parts, I've never seen nor heard of you." Despite his own ability to converse, there was something in his voice and eyes that spoke of anything but a friendly chat, like a cat meowing and purring gently, smiling and chuckling in this case, while circling a mouse that had been chosen to become the next meal.

Dracula pursed his lips together in a widened grin, amused at the question as hand. He took a moment to think about how he was going to explain before forming a broad reply, "Let's just say, it was handed down to me by a friend who simply couldn't make it. Those influenzas are certainly making it's rounds, and I would bow to the gods of mercy in hopes that it doesn't make it into this very palace," Dracula spoke, stating his allegiance with a rapid nod in Francis' direction, "And you have may not seen nor heard of me, but trust when I say that when It comes to where I am from, I am what you would say a rather big deal. Not that It matters much in these lands. All that matters is that the Princess is having a grand evening. And a grand evening it is indeed. Now, I might ask, what is your intentions with this night? For a faraway prince to sweep your sweet Rose off of her feet? Or are there other arrangement already made - ones in which the princess may not now about?" Dracula blurted out before his body language began to coil away sheepishly, "I apologize if that question was informal. But I understand that you above all most likely put more stock into the wellness of the kingdom much more than anyone?" Dracula said, hoping to save himself from an immediate call to the guards for jail time.

"Tomorrow, at dawn.
So, plans have been made already. Still, that didn't mean they wouldn't need a bit of help to make sure plans would also come to fruition. He had to plant some doubts in her, enough to make her consider a deal.
"Oh, Rumplestiltskin, I am relieved and overjoyed. We spent a year apart, unnecessarily trying to sort out our stations in life,""All this time, fate has been on our side. He is a prince!"
"Good news, good news," he replied with a slight smile before sending her into another twirl. Only when she was back in his hold, Rumplestiltskin went on with more words, some to plant said doubts. "Not to spoil anything, dearie, but... have you two concluded complications? The boy might be a prince, but does he have King Stefan's blessing? Or will your father rather decide fate for you because love is not an argument for everyone?"

Prince Charming - tempplay by Hollywood Heidi - "And you look just as fine, sir,"David glanced down, wanting to place a kiss on that smirk, but propriety stopped him from doing so. He allowed his eyes to go back over his wife's shoulder to discreetly watch Rose and the Dark One whenever a turn angled his sight in their direction. Besides the trust she so freely had in everyone, Rose's inexperience in the world had allowed her to remain open and honest with her thoughts and her feelings, both of which were remarkably warm and positive due to the fact that inexperience had kept her from having others use them against her. People learned, many times through hard, real life lessons, to become guarded, but the way everyone seemed to warm so quickly to her, save for her own father, she had yet to face many, possibly any, harsh realities. Her face was just as unguarded and could be read as easily as a book and right now, the way it lit up, it was obvious that the Dark One had brought up the mystery man she'd danced with. Glancing back at his wife when the natural turn of their dance put Rose out of view, he saw her silent request to lead them closer. His own expression silently conveyed that it wouldn't be easy and he only dared to go a little closer than the rest of the couples leaving a wide berth so as to not be too obvious. The dance had Rose in view again, and he could see that Rose's expression had turned serious, telling him that the Dark One was probably reminding her of the barriers she and the mystery man faced. "And the discussion has become serious," he said quietly to his wife, still studying Rose and the Dark One as he spoke. "My guess is he's playing the angle of the barriers of their classes not making it possible for them to be together." It was David's assumption that that was the case due to the man having hidden his identity behind a mask. He had no idea that his wife had placed who the man was.

"Good news, good news," "Not to spoil anything, dearie, but... have you two concluded complications? The boy might be a prince, but does he have King Stefan's blessing? Or will your father rather decide fate for you because love is not an argument for everyone?"
Rose hadn't thought about that. Rumple's words started to lift the haze of love that had kept her blinded to reality. Before she'd struck out on her own, she hadn't believed that anything in the world could supersede love, and she'd naively believed that was the view of everyone the world over. When it came to her father, she had yet to see anything that resembled even the smallest of anything that could be deemed affection. "No, I suppose it is not," she said distractedly, the glow of joy starting to dim.
With a clearer mind, more reality started to come crashing down on her. Her gaze was blindly fixated on Rumple's shoulder as she replayed her conversation with Phillip. "He said he had not been invited," she recalled, the glowing expression slowly turned to concern. "My father invited nobility from all reaches. Why would he not invite the neighboring kingdom?" she asked, rhetorically at first, but then recalling that Rumple seemed to always be in the know, she pulled her eyes upward from his shoulder to see if his face showed any signs of awareness of what had occurred between her father and Phillip's.

"Let's just say, it was handed down to me by a friend who simply couldn't make it. Those influenzas are certainly making it's rounds, and I would bow to the gods of mercy in hopes that it doesn't make it into this very palace,"
"Ah," Francis intervened with this fake smile, yet sincere amusement, again. "So chances took you out. My congrats. The King is known for being.. let's say.. picky" because 'difficult' might give away his non-neutral position, "when it comes to the guest list."
"And you have may not seen nor heard of me, but trust when I say that when It comes to where I am from, I am what you would say a rather big deal. Not that It matters much in these lands. All that matters is that the Princess is having a grand evening. And a grand evening it is indeed. Now, I might ask, what is your intentions with this night? For a faraway prince to sweep your sweet Rose off of her feet? Or are there other arrangement already made - ones in which the princess may not now about?"
The knight raised an eyebrow, rather surprised than indignant about the other's audacity. Anyways, before he could say anything at all, the dark gentleman bowed out from said audacity. Almost a pity, as it had the potential to make the conversation more lively, much more interesting. However, Francis was no fool. He could tell that the sudden sheepish behavior was part of a tactic as well. They seemed to come from a similar path as for their mannerisms.
"I apologize if that question was informal. But I understand that you above all most likely put more stock into the wellness of the kingdom much more than anyone?"
"Well, questions are only as informal, or misplaced, if that's what you implied, as the counterpart takes it," Francis launched into a reply then, still with this attentive eye while the smile faded a bit, yet only as much to make clear they have overstepped the line of small talk at this point. Surely not a bad thing, although it depended on the perspective. Francis also left it open if he had been taking the question misplaced or not. "However, let me assure you that any arrangement I'm involved in will be made for the princess' good and by mutual agreement." And again, that depended on the perspective. "So, yes. Isn't all that matters that she is having a grand evening?" Francis repeated with the smile widening once again. "But if you allow me another question on my part, Sir. What are your expectations of this evening? There must be something more than a glass of wine and a dance when one takes such a long journey, I assume."

Snow was able to practically read her husband's thoughts right from his face as usual. Not because David was an open book in general, but because they had this deep connection where one could read the other no matter what, almost as if hearing the partner tell them intentionally. And then he gave voice to what she had been thinking, partly that was, because Snow had some extra information.
"And the discussion has become serious,""My guess is he's playing the angle of the barriers of their classes not making it possible for them to be together."
"He must be playing a different angle," she corrected quietly while they continued their dance. Snow waited until returning from another twirl before teaching Charming what her words were supposed to mean. "He's a prince. But he was not invited," she added, answering the puzzled face upon his features. "If we know one thing about King Stefan for sure, then it's that he likes to make decisions for others. If Prince Philip wasn't on his guest list, then he probably doesn't want him to ask for his daughter's hand. I'm sure the Dark One knows of this little detail as well."

Rumplestiltskin could practically see his words bearing fruit long before she gave a response that would reflect her sudden worries. He might be a beast without emotions, or at least he kept telling that to himself, but crushing the most naive heart of them all made even him feel a little sting somewhere deep down. Not that the Dark One would admit that fact, though.
"No, I suppose it is not,"
While Aurora's light was fading bit by bit, Rumplestiltskin allowed his gaze to wander around them for some moments. Or maybe that was because said little sting felt even more real when watching her sad and desperate expression. Anyways, they were being watched and maybe even overheard. He could feel it.
"He said he had not been invited,"
The princess' words turned his attention away from the couple that made the shortlist for potential observation and back to the potential deal right in front of him. He had to be careful.
"He said he had not been invited,""My father invited nobility from all reaches. Why would he not invite the neighboring kingdom?"
Instead of showing awareness of what he might or might not be in the know about, Rumple took one step back in his plan to reap the fruits. He also continued their dance, trying to get them out of the Charming's earshot, before he finally talked to her again.
"In any case, he wants you to choose the one he had chosen for you. And that surely won't be someone who isn't even on the guest list. I, on the other hand, can help you make your wish come true, your wish to be with the one you really want to be with." A smirk appeared around his lips, not too obvious though to make the around standing and dancing notice.

"However, let me assure you that any arrangement I'm involved in will be made for the princess' good and by mutual agreement."
...For the princess' good, or for the good of the Kingdom? Dracula thought inwardly as he cracked a crooked grin, listening to what Francis had to say. These rulers and their advisors were all the same - it all came down to doing their duty, Dracula knew he couldn't fault them for doing so. But at what cost?
"So, yes. Isn't all that matters that she is having a grand evening?" "But if you allow me another question on my part, Sir. What are your expectations of this evening? There must be something more than a glass of wine and a dance when one takes such a long journey, I assume."
Dracula's lips were pursed as he inwardly sucked on one of his fangs, thinking for a mere moment about how he was going to answer the question that was proposed to him. His complexion was made of stone, making anyone looking into his eyes hard to read anything about him - especially his intentions, "I am merely just a noble man passing through that simply could not miss an opportunity to relax and mingle - and enjoy an hors d'oeuvre or two, which may I say are absolutely marvelous. I must obtain the name of your caterer." Dracula remarked, tickled with delight as his beady gaze did not stop from narrowing in on Francis, observing every delighted and distraught wrinkle that creased his face.

Prince Charming - tempplay by Hollywood Heidi - "He must be playing a different angle,"David's brows rose with curiosity in a silent 'Oh?' as it was obvious his wife had picked up on more than he'd managed to. He heard the slight pause meant to capture his full attention, so he pulled his eyes from over his wife's shoulder to grant it to her. "He's a prince. But he was not invited,"His brows twitched up a bit further at that doubly surprising revelation. A prince? What were the odds? He was baffled as to why the power-hungry Prince Stefan did not find it extraordinary lucky, that in all his daughter's travels and all the types of people she'd met, she'd happened upon and had fallen in love with a prince. "If we know one thing about King Stefan for sure, then it's that he likes to make decisions for others. If Prince Philip wasn't on his guest list, then he probably doesn't want him to ask for his daughter's hand. I'm sure the Dark One knows of this little detail as well.""Prince Phillip, you say? Of the neighboring kingdom," he added distractedly as he placed the name. David searched through the political facts of his memory banks and realization of why the princess was not as lucky as he'd first deemed started to show on his face. "I recall hearing of a failed attempt on King Hubert's kingdom by King Stefan, back in his early days on the throne. A poor decision made while his ego was overblown for having recently won the throne, along with the misapprehension that a king who took the concerns of his people so seriously made for a weak kingdom," he summarized. "I imagine both kings will take issue with the match." That was putting it lightly. David's eyes wandered back over his wife's shoulder, wondering what scheme the Dark One was brewing up.

"In any case, he wants you to choose the one he had chosen for you. And that surely won't be someone who isn't even on the guest list. I, on the other hand, can help you make your wish come true, your wish to be with the one you really want to be with."
'The one he chooses?' Rose felt her stomach drop. Naively, Rose hadn't thought to consider that. Her father was distant and seemingly indifferent, but surely not even he could be so very detached from matters of the heart that he would force her to marry someone she didn't love... especially when there already was someone she loved... Could he? Her eyes discreetly went to her father. He was watching her, and a hint of a smile played around the corner of his lips as he conversed with his friend and fellow King. Not a smile of happiness or joy, exactly, but triumph, as if he'd stumbled upon good fortune.
For the first time, it seemed her father was in a good mood, and she made a mental note to take advantage of it by speaking to him about Phillip directly after the ball.
Distracted in those thoughts, she'd still heard Rumple's offer and smiled warmly at the man most referred to as a dark creature but who showed her more care than her own father ever had. "That is very kind of you and I will keep it in mind." She wanted to try to do the right thing first and mull over his offer. The song was winding down and she realized that mulling might not be a luxury she could afford. This may be the only time and opportunity she had to speak with him. "I wish to speak to my father first. It may take some time to convince him, but if I am unsuccessful, how do I reach you?"

The knight was very patiently waiting for a response from the other, because not at all was he running out of time. Also, he was a fan of interesting conversations just like this one.
"I am merely just a noble man passing through that simply could not miss an opportunity to relax and mingle - and enjoy an hors d'oeuvre or two, which may I say are absolutely marvelous. I must obtain the name of your caterer."
Nah, that was a lie. This man in front of him was anything but merely just a someone passing through. He seemed like one who tended to plan each little step on his way, just like himself.
"Ah," was all Francis gave the other for at least some seconds of an undeniable tension between them then. He watched the gentleman for a few more seconds before finally adding more. "Well, then I'm glad to hear that our offered selection of delicacies meets the taste of a man who travels so far for a mix and mingle. But if you allow me another question, Sir," Francis continued without even waiting for confirmation, making it clear that this hadn't really been a question in the first place but rather his duty to learn more about a gentleman who had performed a dance with the princess. On his features was a slight smile again, one that gave away his amusement over conversations like this. "You have mentioned being handed down the invitation by a friend who couldn't make it. Forgive me my curiosity," he smiled some more, faked a laugh almost, "but as the King's first knight, I'd prefer to be informed about the replacement, for you weren't coming with the same intentions as the original guest." 'Or were you, after all?' he added a question only with his eyes. 'Being handed the princess, that is'. "What is the name of your friend?"
