Due in theaters sometime in 2005. This is tentative, of course.
I've used to love looking through the Where's Waldo books! But it's interesting that someone would think to make a movie out of it... still I'm interested in seeing how this progresses!
No cast has been attached as of yet.
From Greg's Previews:
Based Upon: This film is based upon the popular series of children's puzzle books by Martin Handford featuring extremely detailed illustrations of crowded settings, in which the reader is challenged to find Waldo, a thin boy wearing glasses and a red-and-white striped sweater and ski cap. It's unknown if the age of Waldo is just being changed for the movie, or if this means that the movie is a sort of "20 years later" sequel to the books. The books also inspired a 1991-1992 Saturday morning animated series on CBS. Specifically, this movie appears to be most directly based upon "Where's Waldo Now?", which followed Waldo as he traveled across both time and space, visiting various historical locations and events.
Premise: These are the adventures of 30-year-old Waldo, a janitor and part-time inventor who finds himself traveling through time and space (ie, his time travels land him in different locations on the planet each time, ala Time Bandits, not always in the same place, as in The Time Machine) after accidentally activating a broken time machine. In the tradition of the books, there will most likely also be some sort of search element, possibly showcasing Waldo's amazing ability to blend in well with crowds, despite wearing a bright red-and-white striped sweater and floppy ski cap. Along the way, Waldo is also expected to become romantically involved with... someone.
