Universal Pictures has bought Michelle McGrath's comedy script "Chip on the Old Block" for high-six figures.
The plot centers on a man who returns to his hometown, where he teaches a bunch of kids how to live life, with disastrous results.
Shady Acres' Tom Shadyac and Michael Bostick will produce the film under their banner. Shadyac's producing credits include "Patch Adams," "Dragonfly" and "Bruce Almighty," all of which he also has directed.
McGrath recently sold the untitled hip-hop nanny project to the Walt Disney Co. That feature is based on the story of a Scottish nanny who comes to America to work for a hip-hop family. McGrath's script "Shangri-La" also is being packaged.
