Simon
Finally he was back in his element. Quickly but thoroughly he examined her injury. "A reddish decoloration... capillaries have been injured and hemoglobin has been resigned from there but at least the zygomatic bone seems to be unharmed." Carefully but definitive he turned her head to a slightly different angle and pressed several points in her face to examine the bone. "Would you please look into my eyes for a moment?" he asked Kaylee.
Just a second passed until he examined her eye as well. For the others it might look as if he was deeply into her eyes, or maybe just flirting to her. But in fact there was a pure medical background. There were cases in which such slightly injuries had also disrupted a vein behind the eye which bled into the eye chamber and leaded to the total blindness on that eye.
"As far as I can say right now, your eye is..." Why the hell did he felt that strange right now? And why couldn't he even talk about her eyes? Sheepishly he cleared his throat and ran his fingers through his hair. Maybe he should just keep her here in the infirmary just to take care for her.
"Well... I guess it would be best... in case you..." Again his throat felt constricted. Why was it that easy to talk about medical treats but that hard as soon as realizing with whom to talk about that? Intimidated he just shook his head and ignored his previous sentence. "Have you said anything?" he just asked instead.

"A reddish decoloration... capillaries have been injured and hemoglobin has been resigned from there but at least the zygomatic bone seems to be unharmed."
Kaylee winced as Simon gently pressed the quickly swelling area around her cheek and eye. That guy really must have decked her good. The dull throb masked all other feeling of the left side of her face, something that she felt a mite disappointment for as the good doctor's fingers grazed her cheek.
"Would you please look into my eyes for a moment?"
Would she? What she wouldn't give for Simon to think on asking her that when there weren't a medical reason. Any rate, the opportunity was there. So she did as the doctor asked and focused on the blue eyes staring so intently at hers and once again found the confusion that always colored her interactions with him. Though he was always holding back, his eyes told a completely different story all together and now weren't no different. Try she might, she couldn't stop the hold of his gaze, even when he started speaking again.
"Have you said anything?"
"Huh?" It wasn't the most coherent reply but, in all honesty, Kaylee hadn't heard a gorram thing the doctor said after looking into his eyes. It was luck she'd said anything at all. Recovering, she continued, "Sorry my...my heads hurtin' an awful lot..."

Mal
The Captain just looked back and forth between his Mechanic and the Doctor and rolled his eyes. "Well you all have things well in hand. I'm just... going to... excuse myself and check on our guest." When he realized everyone was either having an out of body experience or... otherwise distracted, Reynolds just slipped out of the Infirmary. He needed to make sure Jayne wasn't making any deals that would bite him in the Pigu.

River felt the air draft beside her, as Malcolm passed her to leave the room. But it was Simon's voice, which made her stop the little chant. River looked up again. A smile appeared on her lips, when she saw him leaning over Kaylee. It was like Romeo and Julia, wasn't it? The smile was getting even more childish. But wait! The smile died down and worry was written on River's face. Julia had taken poison. "Don't kiss her, Simon.", River suddenly called out, feeling all eyes laying on her. But she didn't say anything else.

Inara barely managed to choke back a laugh. What in the world was going on in that brilliant mind of River's, she wondered.
"River, tian xin, why don't you help me to my shuttle. I'm afraid I'm not as steady on my legs as I'd like." As if to prove it, her legs buckled when her feet touched the floor but she gracefully righted herself and held out her arm for River. Before Simon could protest, she added, "It was only a sedative. There's no need for me to take up your space or your time. All I can do is sleep it off." She smiled lovely at Kaylee. "Take good care of our Kaylee. I'll be back later to check on you," she reassured.
Seeing Kaylee like that was setting her blood to boil and she directed that anger at Mal. Kaylee wouldn't be hurt if he hadn't pulled that stunt. If her mind wasn't so muddled, she'd give him a piece of it right now.
She started for the door but paused, realizing Simon might be concerned with the captain's reaction of letting a patient go without a check-up. She smiled sweetly and just as sweetly added, "If Mal has a problem with my decision, you tell him he can take it up with me."

"River, tian xin, why don't you help me to my shuttle. I'm afraid I'm not as steady on my legs as I'd like."
River's face turned around to the soft voice of Inara. For a moment she was torn between her buckled move and Simon, as Inara held out her arm. River was indecisive looking at her, but then gave her help to stabilize. She had warned Simon. And he was no idiot. Well, not always at least. "I can do that.", River said after Inara reassured Simon she was ok, while turning around to his brother. He didn't say anything to her, but she knew how worried he was about everything he does on her own. When they reached the doorway, Inara added some words to the others, before River helped her out to get to her shuttle.

*Some time later*
After an official diagnosis of concussion from Simon, the good doctor stuck around- though it seemed to Kaylee his sole purpose was to make sure she didn't go to sleep. Not very romantic, lest not when it was for medical reasons, but she'd take what she could get. They'd been in there a while, not doing much talking bout anything when the comm'd come to life.
"Jayne, take the doc and meet that shuttle. If Wash isn't too needy get him up to the galley. The rest of you just sit tight. Family meeting in 10."
After a promise to stay awake, Kaylee found herself alone with her thoughts. Her mind had cleared some, though the headache lingered. But she was beginning to feel mighty tired again. 'Maybe just five minutes wouldn't hurt...'
Her eyes began to drift shut but then snapped back open. 'The disc.'
Carefully Kaylee pushed herself up from the infirmary table and swung her legs down. Her head protested a bit at first but calmed after a minute. She slipped down gingerly touching her feet to the floor. 'So far so good.'

**River and Wendy enter from kitchen, dining and lounge area**
River
River was leading the way, had a look back at the woman behind now and then. Her arms swang back and forth while she walked up the floor and sometimes it almost looked like she was dancing. The mental picture from Wendy somehow eased her mind, let the voices disappear. "We're here.", she said, as they reached the infirmary, her brother's construction area. It was indeed, she thought with a smile. Simon was able to cobble people together. Just like Frankenstein. Though that people never were dead. "Simon!", River called out for her brother, just as she opened the door, almost forgot about the woman behind her. Simon
"River! Are you okay?", Simon said in return and seemed to always be concerned about her little sister. But when he had a look over her shoulder during the hug she gave him, Simon suddenly noticed the newcomer. "Hello. I think we haven't meet yet.", he started wary, but friendly. Though he thought this woman couldn't be that bad, if River trusted her so quickly. "I'm Simon." For a moment he seemed to examine her with his eyes, actually just to find out if she maybe needed his medical help, but then he suddenly realized, that it also could have appeared like an advance. He tried to not blush because of that.

Wendy followed River from the kitchen down to the infirmary, taking in the ship as they made their way through it. It was in ingrained habit to assess her surroundings but as they approached, her concentration went to the destination just up ahead.
Her steps slowed as different scenarios played in her mind, doubt fighting hope. What if he refuses to help? No, he wouldn't. His case file suggested otherwise. But what if what's happened has changed him? What if he refuses simply for her association with the people who had put River through what she'd been through? What if he wouldn't listen to her reasons why it would be to the benefit of his sister?
She watched Simon embrace his sister and worry over her. His demeanor appeared to be the same as reported, though a definite cautious hesitancy was there as he studied her. Because her head was already aching from already pushing herself more than she should have, she resisted reading him and went with her companion training of studying body language, expressions, and eyes. It was amazing what the eyes alone could say.
"I'm Simon."
Wendy felt herself smile in amusement as a slight blush tinged his cheeks. "Wendy," she replied as she took his hand and shook it. "I can't even begin to tell you what a relief it that I found you, Dr. Tam."

Simon
Simon managed to cool down, when the woman in front of him answered him with a smile.
"Wendy," Simon shook her hand with reserve, but in his usual polite way. "I can't even begin to tell you what a relief it that I found you, Dr. Tam."
And then Simon couldn't resist from glancing at River for a little moment. His sister however has already turned away her attention and instead looked like counting something not visible on the ground next to her shoeless feet. Simon let out a quiet sigh, even more hearable in his mind. Sometimes he really wished to grasp what was going on in River's head.
"Can I help you with something?", Simon concentrated back on the woman in front of him. "Are you wounded?" Actually he had no other idea with what else able being helpful, above all as he's never met this woman before, nor had any idea where she had come from or what has happened the last hour outside at all. There were these concussions and worrying announcements from the cockpit. Another quiet sigh formed in his mind.

"No." As an afterthought, she paused and did a quick once over in case there were any superficial wounds that she may have acquired and overlooked in the chaos of the day. "No," she reconfirmed.
She hadn't been sure if she'd even find Simon in time and now that she had, she was faced with a new problem; convincing him to help her. A spark of hope mixed with a spark of trepidation that he would refuse to help her made her nervous. She wasn't sure where to begin. Be confident. Be positive, she told herself.
"My problem is mental. Not mental," she quickly corrected with a twirl of her finger near her ear in the universal gesture for 'crazy'. "Mental." She tapped her temple, indicating her brain.
Way to go, Carter, she chastised. Real smooth.

Simon
"No.", the woman in front of him negated and started to look around her own body, just to confirm her answer. "No."Simon tried to look neutral, but inwardly he started to wonder about this meeting. Wasn't she with the hands of blue, the men, who are searching for River to do those terrible experiments with her again? Simon tried to remember her face. But he couldn't, as he has been too much concentrated on caring for Keighley's wounds. For one little moment his thoughts deviated to the beautiful brown hair. "My problem is mental. Not mental,", the woman in front of him suddenly forced his mind back, doing strange gestures with a finger around her head. Simon again tried to look as neutral and unbiased as possible. "Mental.", she repeated with a different pitch. "Well,", Simon started in a friendly, though a little confused way. "I'm not sure how I could help you... I'm not.. actually that kind of a doc..." River
"She's like me, Simon!", River suddenly threw in from the side. A smile lay on her lips. This woman was like her and she could make her feeling better. If she was able to, it meant, River could be able herself too. And that meant, she won't have to hear all those voices forever. She didn't hate it always. But there were just too much of it. Too loud. Mean ones. Commanding ones. If she just could let them being more quiet... Simon
"She's like me, Simon!"Now Simon wasn't able to hide his feelings any more. Anger raised up inside him. He had to protect River, that was everything what counts. And so he wouldn't let someone, obviously connected to the hands of blue, come too close to River. "What did you tell her?", he suddenly snapped at the woman, not loud, but obviously incensed, automatically raised his arm out to his sister, as he would have to protect her physically.

"She's like me, Simon!"
A smile tugged at her lips as she looked at River, feeling the same sort of joy over finding someone like herself. A kindred spirit of sorts. She'd felt an automatic bond the moment River had been in the same room, sensing her before she'd even seen her. It was as if someone else had finally emerged into the dark loneliness of that unique mental plane of existence, bringing light and companionship to that part of her mind.
Wendy saw the negative effect River's statement had on Simon. Her smile vanished as she automatically went into defense mode, looking into his thoughts out of habit as he turned on her.
"What did you tell her?"
Her eyes narrowed at his mental image of her standing in alliance with the Hands of Blue. "You saw what they did to your sister," she said in a calm, angry tone, ignoring his question. "Do you really think I'd voluntarily work for those sociopaths?"

Simon
"You saw what they did to your sister,""Do you really think I'd voluntarily work for those sociopaths?", the woman in front of him replied, also with an angry tone in her voice. "You have no idea, what they did to her.", Simon fought back. Anger was still hearable in his voice, even though he wasn't speaking too loud. His eyes turned to his sister for a moment, who was still smiling at the woman. No one really knew what those sociopaths have done to her, except of herself. Then Simon's eyes suddenly went back to the woman in front of him. Wait, didn't she call them sociopaths either? And she actually didn't sound like she wouldn't mean, what she said. But then, how can he be sure, she was trustworthy? Again he had a look at River. Was it prove enough, that River seemed to trust her? For some moments it was quite. No one said a word, while Simon was looking to and fro the young women.

"You have no idea, what they did to her."
Her rage at the Blue Sun corporation and the Hands of Blue and what they'd done to her leading up to the physical pain and certain death she was now left with flared, making her want to yell and scream at the unfair and unjust life she'd had. She snuffed it as quickly as it had flared.
"River," she said, giving the girl a look of calm reassurance. "May I please have a moment alone with your brother?"

"River,""May I please have a moment alone with your brother?"River
River was still smiling at Wendy. She somehow felt a strong bond between the two of them, even though she actually didn't know much about her. Not much, although maybe better than anyone else, as she totally knew what was going on in her head. Maybe she even was the only one, who really understood. "Sure.", River answered with a nod of her head, before she stepped out the door with dancing moves, quitly closing the door behind her. **River exits to Corridor - Fore Passage**
Simon
Simon watched his sister walking out the room. And when the door was closed behind, he turned around to the woman in front of him. "Okay. What is it, you can't tell me in the presence of River?", he wanted to know, not really angry anymore, but strict and inwardly curious.

Wendy maintained her smile for River but as soon as she closed the door, leaving her alone with Simon, Wendy rounded on Simon, her eyes flashing with years of anger and pain.
"I was from a poor planet, its main output from a factory producing skiffs and the like for the Alliance military which also served as a base. They ran our little planet. The teachers didn't care about their jobs, let alone the kids. They consistently complained to the higher ups about the smart mouthed little girl who corrected them in class. It didn't take long for word to reach Blue Sun. They came knocking at our door and my parents were more than happy to sell me to them. They went off on their merry to a more comfortable life without a backward glance. I had no big brother, no other family or friends with the wealth and means to bust me out of there. I've spent my entire life as their special little adopted guinea pig, cut on, poked, prodded, injected, electrocuted... They had control over me, trained me to be a soldier, a companion, a spy, a weapon. I was made to work for them, irreparably damaged by them in what I'm pretty sure was a purposefully botched procedure to ensure I'd remain dependent on them." She suddenly felt very tired and defeated after having unloaded all that weight but continued in a calmer yet still stern tone. "You look me in the eye and tell me again, Doctor, how I have no idea what they did to your sister."

Simon
Simon's face expression started severe and very sceptical. During the outburst of anger and pain about the woman's own past, it went more and more softer, in the end sympathetic, maybe even weepy as it looked. There was no doubt inside of him anymore, that all the words she said were true. That she had to feel all the pain his sister had to. But one statement stung him individually. No brother, no other family or friends... Simon felt bad and guilty for not have been there for River the whole time. For have allowed them to hurt her. For not have found her earlier. "You look me in the eye and tell me again, Doctor, how I have no idea what they did to your sister.""I.. I'm sorry.", Simon replied in his usual shy behavior again. He somehow felt miserable about it. He had to trust in River's knowledge of human nature. For one moment his eyes were laying at the closed door. Absently.

Wendy watched his expression as he looked toward the closed door. Of course he hadn't thought about what some stranger might have gone through. All his thoughts and concerns revolved around his sister, as she assumed would be the way of any loving family and all she had was assumptions when it came to that topic.
She felt a warm wetness and swiped a hand under her nose, coming away with blood. For someone who was supposed to be taking it real easy, she'd been majorly overdoing it and most likely speeding up the inevitable. "No, I'm sorry," she said, tiredly pushing herself up onto the infirmary bed. "I'm a might tetchy. Had a bad couple of days. Shouldn't'a taken it out on you."
She pinched the bridge of her nose and tilted her head back. Or should she be tipping it forward? Hell, she could barely think, what with her head splitting and a fierce exhaustion overcoming her. There was a gray haze around her vision of the threatening coma if she didn't take it easy and give in with another dose of her meds. It was tempting to welcome it, to let herself slip into a coma and spend her remaining days in sweet oblivion.

Simon (temp-play by DarksideCookie) Simon somehow felt eyes laying on him and so he drew attention back to the woman in front of him. As soon as he saw the blood under her nose, the calm doctor took the shy guy's place. And so he helped her with pushing herself up onto the infirmary bed. "I'm a might tetchy. Had a bad couple of days. Shouldn't'a taken it out on you.""It's fine.", Simon replied with a nod, while he did some steps through the room to take something out of the small fridge in the edge of the Infirmary. Back at the bed, Simon raised up the woman's head a little and placed an ice pack in her neck. "Here you go. It helps to stop the hemorrhage." Simon was curious about her background story and above all about her connection with River. But the doctor inside him knew that there was time for answers later. Everything he could do to help her right now, was allowing her to rest. "Better try to sit up.", he added, when he suddenly feared her to sleep away or even fall into a coma. "..and to stay awake. Are you hearing me?"

"It's fine.", "Here you go. It helps to stop the hemorrhage."
With Simon's help, she was now comfortably settled onto the infirmary bed. She lay back, obligingly holding the ice pack to her neck. Her grip was somewhat loose but held it steady as her eyes hooded with exhaustion.
"Better try to sit up."
Wendy merely gave a dismissive murmur and remained as she was.
"..and to stay awake. Are you hearing me?"
She gave a sound of annoyance. "Yah, yah, I hear ya, Doc," she said, sounding a bit like a child woken up to get ready for school. She grudgingly sat up, waiting for Simon to readjust the bed to sitting position and then leaned back. She willed herself out of the tempting haze and grimaced again at the pain in her head. "Would you mind bringing me my bag?" she asked, pointing to the medium sized duffel she'd dropped by the infirmary door.

"Yah, yah, I hear ya, Doc,"Simon ignored the hearable annoyance in her voice and instead was glad that her condition at least didn't seem to get worse. In addition he was used to get annoyance, as actually the fewest people were liking doctors. It seemed to be different with Kaylee though, he suddenly thought with a shy smile, letting it disappear once his patient spoke up again. "Would you mind bringing me my bag?""Sure.", he answered and followed her pointing in the door's direction. Just as he reached it, someone tear open the Infirmary's door like a really big clumsy oak.

The hot-headed, gun-loving muscle of the group entered. No doubt sent to gather information about her. His profile had also mentioned he was good with interrogation, though he wouldn't be able to use his usual bloodthirsty tactics. She wasn't a threat and she'd even helped them. She didn't mind being questioned. She'd planned to fill them in anyway and besides, she could use a good distraction right now.
"Oh, just peachy with a side of keen," she said as she pushed herself to a better sitting position. Wendy already had the advantage as she'd read their files but they knew nothing about her. She decided to amuse herself by taking the upper hand. "You here to interrogate me, Mr. Cobb?" she asked sweetly.

"Let's call it a chat.",
Jayne may be tough but one did not have to be a mind reader to know what he was thinking. She smirked.
"Let's call it a day for now." "Don't you see she's ailing?"
Wendy looked at Simon, her features softening into a smile at his care and concern over her, despite the fact she was a stranger. He most definitely had the heart of a doctor and through the brief mental connection she'd shared with River, Wendy felt a sort of sisterly affection toward him. For now at least, that feeling was only one sided. Simon didn't have the ability to share or experience the feelings of others but the lengths he'd gone to for his sister and the way he cared for River was enough to earn Wendy's respect and admiration, with or without the gift of having bonded with River's thoughts and emotions.
"It's alright, Doc," she said with a kind familiarity. Feeling less on the defensive, she looked back at Jayne and went for a more amicable approach. "I plan on sharing everything with the captain and crew. In the meantime, how about you let the Doc do his job and you can listen in, pick up on bits and pieces of my story."

"It's alright, Doc,"Simon nodded in agreement, though he didn't thought it was a good idea for her to conduct one of Jayne's interviews, at least not in her current condition. Well, that was the doctor inside of him, who didn't make a difference between his patients. Stranger or not, if one needed his medical abilities, he felt the need to help. But Wendy seemed to feel better and so it was her decision anyway. He just hoped that Jayne didn't make use of his usual public relation job, but then, she was a nice looking woman, so he wouldn't anyway. And besides, he still was in the same room with them. Simon pretended to do something doctor-ish in the background, while he kept one ear open.

"Alright," she said, casually placing the ice pack on the tray beside her and pressing the towel under her nose one more time to make sure the bleeding had stopped. "I'm here because I need Dr. Tam's help."
Wendy dug through her duffel that the doctor had kindly brought to her, retrieving the rectangular container with the syringe and the little tube container with the one and a half pills. "I've tried to have these duplicated," she began, addressing Simon as she shook the pill and a half into her open palm, "but so far, none of the other doctors had success. They're not just any ol' pills you can find on the market. They're unique, created in a special unit of one of Blue Sun's labs specifically for my... condition."
Wendy waited for Simon to respond and watched him to gauge his reaction which would be what determined the level of hope she would be putting into this.
