"If you got pancakes, I think yours is up next. I saw him making it now friend."
Leroy looked up to the guy leaning over him. He gave him just a little nod, of course as grumpy as usual. Didn't he have nothing better to do than doing other's job, or what is it? Leroy's eyes followed the guy, who was heading back to a table next to a young woman. What the...? Was that sign language they used? Leroy turned away his look, starting watching around. It seemed nearly nobody was hanging around here such early in the morning. What would he give for having a good night rest? But this shift work was no bloody good. His eyes went back to the bar ahead. An impatient grumble left his lips, as he was waiting for his breakfast.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have run out like that. It's just...I guess I freaked out a little. And everyone in there was staring at us and...I mean...Kitt. What are we doing? You're like a saint to this town and I'm...well, I think we know what I am."
She pushed off from the wall before I got a chance to answer, pushing off the wall I followed behind her down the alley.
"When things took a turn for the worse last night, all I could think was that you had finally come to your senses and seen what everyone else sees. And it hurt so much more than anything I've gotten from anyone else here. That scared me. I'm in the business of not getting hurt."
The saint comment irked me as I never considered it and never would I just to what needs to be done and help those who need it there really isn't much more too it. But her, Ruby is so much more than she knows. "Sorry, last night was all me, you gave me a pet name just kinda took me back a lil is all. Was stupid really." I walked up to her and cupped my finger tips on her delicate cheek "I really do think you are amazing just the way you. You are the most delicate and beautiful flower just waiting to blossom. The best part of my day is coming into the Diner to see how your smile lightens up a room or how you effervescent beauty wards off the the rain clouds that obscure a blue moon. I don't care what the town has to say about you because I know how wrong they are. I know there is a small part part of you that believes it... knows it isn't true. That is who you are, that Ruby is fiercely loyal, intelligent and isn't chained to an image." I gently kiss her before resting my forehead and saying the hardest thing I have ever had to say, risk vs reward right? "That is my Ruby." I then turned and slowly made my way back down the alley towards the main street.

"You know I don't get out much to town but I'm really enjoying myself," "We'll have to do this more often."
He wanted to see her again! Callie's heart was so light that it seemed like it could fly right out of her chest. She attempted to keep her composure as she replied, "I'd really like that." She paused, wondering if she was being too forward but figuring since he had already opened the door... "Do you have any breakfast plans tomorrow morning? You know what they say, it is the most important meal of the day and since we both seem to know where Granny's is..."

"That is my Ruby."
Tears rolled down Ruby's cheeks as Kitt began to walk away. Her feet stayed root to the ground as if they had forgotten how to move. A voice inside her screamed to go after him. Maybe that was the Ruby he was talking about, buried deep beneath the layers of insecurity and attitude. Fiercely loyal, intelligent, not chained to an image...she wanted to be that Ruby. More than anything she wanted to be that Ruby. She wanted to be with Kitt. She wanted to be more than what she felt she was. He was nearly across the street when she heard his name coming out of her mouth, "Kitt! Kitt, wait." And then she was running after him, her feet flying over the pavement until he was in front of her and her lips were pressing against his, her arms finding their way around his neck.
After a few moments she reluctantly pulled her head back, looking up into his brown eyes. "I want to be your Ruby. I do. I'll try."

"Do you have any breakfast plans tomorrow morning? You know what they say, it is the most important meal of the day and since we both seem to know where Granny's is..."
Was he free? He almost had to chuckle. It made him realize that each day seemed to be the same as the next. It felt like that for as long as he could remember... It all sort of blurred together... But in this case it made it easy for him to say yes, it wasn't like the fish were going to yell at him. He didn't want to make her late so he didn't beat around the bush. "It's a date Callie. I'll be here bright and early," he said.

Ruby called my name and I turned back around the next few seconds were a blur that culminated with her arms around my neck and a kiss... I can't help but breath in her aroma and it reminds me of the smell of coconut.
"I want to be your Ruby. I do. I'll try."
I look down at her and smile, thankful the risk paid off. "You are that Ruby more than you know." The moment is perfect. She is perfect. Ruby Lucas, able to shine brighter than a thousand suns, the angel who rings my bell, the woman I love. my hands pull her waist into me tightly and I kiss her again before just holding her and admiring her beauty and that was when it just slipped out "I don't wanna ever let you go Ruby."

"It's a date Callie. I'll be here bright and early,"
"Great!" Callie signed back. Her cheeks were beginning to ache with how much she was smiling but she just couldn't help it. Hastily she began to gather up her order. If she didn't leave now, she wasn't sure she would ever be able to make herself and that definitely wouldn't make a good impression on Charlie and her aunts. She stood up but lingered a moment at the edge of the booth, looking back at Christian. "It was really nice meeting you, Christian."
With a final look she headed out the door, humming to herself happily as she made her way down the street.

Christian
Callie gathered her things and got up but she lingered a moment by the booth.
"It was really nice meeting you, Christian."
"It was really nice to meet you too Callie." With a final glance she headed on her way leaving Christian alone again with his thoughts. What a great day this was turning out to be. He set to eating his breakfast and he took in everything about it because this was the first day of the rest of his life. He wanted to remember everything about it. The sights, tastes, and smells of the day such a wonderful woman like Calliope came into his life. As he finished he left a generous tip on the table and paid his bill up front before heading off to work.

"I don't wanna ever let you go Ruby."
"Then don't." Ruby replied, letting herself relax into his arms. "Let's stay here forever. Just you and me." Her arms tightened around Kitt's neck as he pulled her closer. She felt so tired, the stress of the past few days finally catching up to her. More than anything she didn't want to go back into the diner. Not yet, after that spectacular storm out. God, two days in a row. If Granny had been there, she would have had a fit. Ruby would be on bussing duty for weeks.

"Let's play hooky today. Ana can cover for me this morning. We're already past the rush. What do you say?"
"Oh Miss Lucas you are a bad influence on me" I teased in a playful manner. Hooky, something I hadn't considered in well ever I couldn't even remember that last time I ditched my responsibilities to go and have some fun. Of course this isn't just ditching to do something else this is Ruby coping after two extremely emotional days so of course I would join her in doing whatever it is she wanted. "How is it you make me feel exactly like I am back to being in High School. Hooky." I couldn't help but laugh and smile at her simple gesture. "I am all for it." I lean down and give Ruby a quick kiss "And while we are at it how about we end the night with that ole High School tradition of a bonfire on the beach?"

"Oh Miss Lucas you are a bad influence on me"
"That's me! Just call me that little devil on you're shoulder." Ruby smiled suggestively, a mischievous twinkle in her eye, "I'm sure there are dozens of other bad things I can influence you into doing. You know, if you're lucky..."
"How is it you make me feel exactly like I am back to being in High School. Hooky." "I am all for it."
She gladly accepted the kiss, thrilled that he had agreed to spend the day with her. She clearly needed a day of mindless fun and who better to get it with?
"And while we are at it how about we end the night with that ole High School tradition of a bonfire on the beach?"
A huge grin spread across her face, "Can we make smores?"

"Can we make smores?"
"Hmmmmmm" I act like I am in the midst of internalizing a difficult decision though anybody listening in would know I could never resist those puppy dog greens that she shoots me. "I just don't think.... Oh alllrriight but only on one condition... and that is you have to show me how to make one as surprisingly enough I can't ever remember making one before." It's weird it's like I know what they are and feel as though I should have made one before but yet I draw a complete blank on ever actually making one, I can only recall vaguely what goes in one. Stupid I know, I then ignore my thoughts and hold out my arm in a bent fashion for Ruby to link her arm with "Well then Miss Lucas shall we go and play hookey?"

After finishing his breakfast, Leroy had another look around the tables. The guy, which has organized his pancakes and the woman with the using sign language have already gone. The Diner now was like a morgue, especially because no Ruby was there to liven things up. With another yawn Leroy placed some coins at the counter. Normally he should have pay personal, but as Granny knew him as one of their regulars, it seemed to be ok. With tired steps he left the Diner.

*Henry enters from Storybrooke Country Bread*
Henry practically skipped down the street to Granny's, still glowing from his conversation with Charlie. Emma had only been there a day and already things really were changing in Storybrooke. He gave a quick wave across the street to Ruby and Kitt before ducking into the diner, nearly running over Leroy in the process. With a quick apology, he darted inside and immediately scanned the room for his birth mother but Emma was not to be found. Oh well, she would come in eventually. Hopefully before Henry had to go to school. He plopped down in a booth by the door. He was already in need of another fix of hot chocolate.

Regina entered the diner intending to just get some coffee before work. Regina walked up to the counter and ordered the coffee, as she sat down and looked around she saw many faces of people she didn't like. Suddenly she saw the face of someone she loved very much. Her son Henry.
Regina stood up and walked over to her son's table. Regina looked at him and smiled "Henry" Regina sat down across from him in the booth.

"Henry."
"Mom!" Henry squeaked out in surprise as the last person he expected to see in Granny's that morning sat down opposite him. All that time hiding out in the woods and he still hadn't missed her. He'd have to be more careful with Operation Cobra in the future. Even so, she seemed to be in a better mood than she had been that morning when the clock tower started ticking again. He crossed his fingers under the table, hoping that Emma wouldn't choose this moment to come into the diner. Realizing that his surprised outburst probably wasn't the reaction his mother was looking for, he hastily explained, "I, uh, I thought that you'd be at work by now."

Regina looked at her son hurt by the reaction, but, ignored it. She hadn't seen him in a while, "I'm just getting some coffee on the way" Regina said, looking at the counter. "You're supposed to be at school." Regina said, looking at the door and then back at her son. "Do you want me to take you?" Regina asked, as she went to take her son's hands.

"What?! Well, we will just have to remedy that now, won't we?"
"Well then Miss Lucas shall we go and play hookey?"
"I just have to run back inside and let Ana know I'm leaving." One glance back at the diner brought the tension back into her shoulders. Yeah, things with Kitt were patched up but she still made a epic fool of herself. Going back in was top on her list of things she didn't want to do.

"Do you want me to take you?"
"No, that's okay." Henry replied quickly, pulling his hands back. He needed to see Emma with his new information on Operation Cobra. Not that he could tell his mom that, since she was the Evil Queen. His mind raced to figure out an excuse to stay at Granny's. "I'm supposed to be meeting Paige here. She's in my class. We're working on a project together and I told her that I would meet her before school to work on it." He paused, wondering if his mom would buy it. Some days it was easier to convince her than others. For good measure he added, "It's on the Revolutionary War. Ms. Blanchard said it's going to be a big part of our grade."

Regina was hurt, but understood. He was 11 and his school was important. Regina was sure her son would meet her later so she looked at him and nodded "Oh ok, I understand." Regina said, smiling at her son before standing up "I hope you know that I love you Henry". Regina said, before walking over to get her coffee, looking back at her son on the way.

"I just have to run back inside and let Ana know I'm leaving."
I noticed the way Ruby looked back towards the diner and needless to say her expression wasn't one of enthusiasm over going back in. I took Ruby's hand and gentle squeezed it "I'm right behind you." I say with a smile "After all if that idiot shows up singing and dancing I will so be Granny's bouncer and throw him out.

"After all if that idiot shows up singing and dancing I will so be Granny's bouncer and throw him out."
Ruby laughed, a genuine smile crossing her lips, "Well, be gentle with him. I do happen to like that idiot, a lot." Tentatively she reached for his hand. It was still weird, being so shy around a guy. So not typical Ruby. But it was nice. She led Kitt towards the door, hesitating just a moment before his hand in her's reassured her. Once they got inside, her fears were quelled as the townsfolk seemed to stay involved in their own conversations. She spotted Ana behind the counter waiting on Mayor Mills. Boy, was she glad that the mayor hadn't been there for the earlier scene. Still holding onto Kitt's hand, she approached the counter just as Ana ran off to fetch something. "Looks like it'll be a few more minutes," she remarked to Kitt and slid onto one of the diner stools. A few seconds of uncomfortable silence later and she found herself greeting the woman next to her at the counter, "Good morning, Mayor."

I follow Ruby's lead into the Diner and let her go about her business of getting out of here.
"Looks like it'll be a few more minutes,"
Ruby slid onto a stall while I remained standing, I put my forearm on the counter and lead against it.
"Good morning, Mayor."
Ruby was addressing Mayor Mills a woman I instinctively never trusted, something in my gut just screamed out not to trust a single thing she ever said or did I don't know why but I've always felt that I could rely on my instincts. I never voted for Mayor Mills but evidently enough of Storybrooke don't share my concern, it may have been possible I was making it up but regardless I was always on my guard around her. I gave her a quick nod "Madam Mayor" manners are still free after all.

Regina looked up "Hello Ruby, Kitt" Regina said, smiling at them. Regina could tell that Kitt didn't like or trust her, but, she wasn't planning to stay here long anyway. Regina looked around the Diner and then back at Ruby and Kitt, "How are you this morning?" Regina decided she should try to make small talk even though she wasn't planning to be here long.

"Hello Ruby, Kitt" "How are you this morning?"
To say she was surprised at the friendly response was an understatement. For some reason, Ruby had always gotten the feeling that Mayor Mills was none too fond of her. It was honestly the reason that she tried so hard to kill the mayor with kindness. Couldn't hurt being on the woman's good side, though being on her bad side could hurt an awful lot.
Quickly, so as not to show her bewilderment, she responded, "Have had better ones...but it is showing signs of improvement." She gave Kitt's hand a quick squeeze. It was pretty confusing, as he was the cause of both, but she supposed the course of true love never did run smooth. Ruby had to force back a snort of laughter at that thought. Right, true love. Like such a thing existed.
"Having breakfast with Henry?" she asked, spying the younger Mills in a booth across the room.

Gail clipped the new order to the rack and spun it toward the kitchen. She glanced around as she made a mental note of the status of each table. Her eyes stopped on Ana who fumbled nervously by the coffee machine. What's gotten into her? A quick glance at the mayor answered that question.
"I don't remember how she likes her coffee. I can never remember! I'm afraid I'll piss her off if I ask her for the fifth day in a row," Ana whispered in frustration.
Gail placed a hand over Ana's, stilling the shaking pot of coffee. "I got this," she said with a comforting smile. "Mind taking my order to table three?"
"Gladly!" Ana said as she took off before Gail could change her mind. Not that she would.
Gail automatically set to preparing the Mayor's coffee. She remembered exactly how each person liked their coffee or tea prepared and several patrons had gotten out of the habit of specifying how they wanted it prepared. With the same patrons of the small town frequenting the diner, nearly all the waitresses had no problems keeping track but for some reason, people were so nervous around the mayor. She didn't understand why. Mayor Regina definitely had a tough exterior but she seemed nice enough.
Gail placed a freshly warmed apple turnover on a plate and put on a smile as she walked the items over. "Here you are, Madam Mayor." She placed the coffee on the counter and then the plate. "Apple turnover, on the house. It's from that new bakery that opened. They've graciously provided us with pastries until Granny's back to baking." It really was very nice of the bakery to help out so she always took the opportunity to return the favor by recommending the newest addition to their little town.
She threw a quick smile to Ruby and without wanting to further interrupt the awkward conversation she'd walked into, she eased back, making herself busy behind the counter as she stayed near in case the Mayor needed anything further.

The position with Madam Mayor was an awkward one so I decided to make a break for it, leaning in toward Ruby I whispered in her ear. "Sorry but I gotta shoot, I have an appointment feeding smores and Hersheys Kisses to a one Miss Ruby Lucas." I then turned to the Mayor with the most innocent smile I could muster "You will have to excuse me Madam Mayor but I have so much time and very little to do." I then dip an imaginary hat and leave the Diner waiting for Ruby outside.

***Aiden enters from his place***
Aiden entered the diner after leaving his place the thoughts of Charlie still fresh in his mind. As per usual Aiden found himself a booth away from all the people who frequented the Diner. Aiden sat down before fishing a book out of his coat pocket which he then began to read,
"I am responsible for everything ... except for my very responsibility, for I am not the foundation of my being. Therefore everything takes place as if I were compelled to be responsible. I am abandoned in the world ... in the sense that I find myself suddenly alone and without help, engaged in a world for which I bear the whole responsibility without being able, whatever I do, to tear myself away from this responsibility for an instant. "

Gail couldn't help but grin to herself as she watched Kitt whispered in Ruby's ear from the corner of her eye and then disappeared outside. It was obvious Ruby wanted to go running out right after him. Gail started to clear away the dishes of the patron that had just left the counter to the other side of Ruby, giving Ruby a knowing smile. "Go on," Gail said with a nod to the door. "The lunch rush is over. I got this," she added for the second time in minutes.
They turned to the sound of a jingle as someone entered and Gail watched Aiden make his way to a booth away from the rest of the crowd. Before Ruby could say anything more, Gail gave her a shooing motion with her hands. "If you don't go, I will," she teased with a wink before heading for the exit of the counter to the diner floor.
Gail paused in front of the new patron. "Good afternoon, Aiden," she said cheerily despite his usual quiet and withdrawn disposition. She made it a point to learn everyone's name, no matter how anti-social or grumpy a patron may be. She automatically placed a menu on the table though most patrons rarely needed them anymore as they seemed to have it memorized. Not a hard thing to do when there's only one diner in town. She added the automatic accompanying line of, "Did you need a couple minutes to decide?"

"You will have to excuse me Madam Mayor but I have so much time and very little to do."
The trace of a smile crossed Ruby's lips as she watched Kitt all but bolt out of the diner. Now to extract herself from the quickly turning awkward social interaction with Mayor Mills . With a shrug, and a bit of a wickedly mischievous grin, she explained her comrade's hasty departure. "Please excuse him, he forgot to take his medication this morning. Makes him all crazy. In fact, I better go catch up to him before he hurts himself." As she moved away from the Mayor, her actual reason for coming back into the diner in the first place represented itself. Ana was still darting from table to table and Ruby began to wonder if this was actually a good idea after all. She knew what Granny would say. Work always had to come first before Ruby's social life. That was how the waitress so often ended up working with such wicked hangovers.
"Go on," Ruby turned to see Gail leaning over the counter beside her. "The lunch rush is over. I got this," Was she really that transparent? Apparently so with the look that Gail was sending her. Ruby hesitated long enough that the girl began to literally shoo her out the door.
"If you don't go, I will,"
It didn't take much more than that. Gail was more than able, and seemed willing, to run things on her own. Ruby quickly threw her a grateful look before rushing out the door. Kitt was waiting by the gate, seemingly hotter than ever with the bright sunlight glinting off his golden hair.
