Aiden Quinn
"Good afternoon, Aiden, Did you need a couple minutes to decide?"
Aiden looked up, the thought of actually ordering and eating something while here had never occured to him, he simply walked in, sat down and begun to read almost as if it was a sacred routine. He looked up at the waitress and all the things he could have done in the past to effect her and all the things someone could ask him to do flashed before him, Aiden needed remove his leash even if it meant biting the hand that bleeds him. As an auto response to his current train of thoughts Aiden asked his waitress for one thing, "Freedom..."

Taking Aiden's thoughtful look as a sign he was about to order, Gail fished the order pad from her apron and took the pen from behind her ear, holding it at the ready over the pad.
"Freedom..."
Gail looked up from her pad and eyed him curiously. He seemed a world away, lost in some troubling thoughts. If people voluntarily offered to share what was troubling them, needing to vent, get things off their chest, take a weight off their shoulders, she was always glad to lend an ear. But it was not her place to pry. She tapped the pen thoughtfully against her lips before returning it behind her ear and dropping the pad back in her apron.
"Afraid that's not something easily whipped up in a kitchen but... gimme a sec," she said, holding up a finger as she headed back to the counter and quickly returned with a piece of pie which she placed in front of him.
"It's not the key to unlock whatever has you feeling trapped but it's so amazingly good that it might help make you forget for a short while." She continued with some more idle chatter in hopes to help distract him from his thoughts as well as to not give him a chance to try and turn it down. "It's on me, compliments of the new bakery that just opened. You know those three eccentric old biddies who used to randomly show up in town selling their baked goods? They're running it. Those three ladies bake like a dream," she said with a sigh, seriously contemplating having a slice when she went on break. Of course like most everyone else, she assumed it was the three ladies who did the baking.
"You want anything with that? Water? Milk? Scoop of vanilla ice cream?"

Aiden looked up at Gail and his jaw dropped as he looked down at he pie she placed before him, a pie described as dreamy made by the woman who has occupied a space in his thoughts ever since he 'saved' her life. Aiden didn't quite understand any link between pie making any feelings of him being trapped better although there was something to say in regards to the correlating link between the pie itself and the person who mate, that is if Aiden believed in any such links. Aiden held a hand out offering her the seat opposite him, while Aiden had no friends within the town this waitress could very well give him some feminine insight and help him work out his feelings and what it all means. "Join me, please." the last word was added as an after thought, sincere manners had become such a foreign language to him now.

Gail opened her mouth to regretfully tell him she couldn't but closed it again as she looked around. Things were quiet and Ana was already clearing the two tables that had just been vacated even though they had been Gail's tables. Ana was making up for her coming to her rescue to deliver the coffee to the fierce Mayor. She gave Ana a little wave of thanks and a nod toward the empty seat across Aiden to signal she was taking a short break but would be right there if she was needed.
She was glad for the opportune timing because she was curious about this usually quiet, introverted patron and didn't know if he'd ever again be so inclined in future to make such an offer. He appeared to have a lot on his mind and she'd have dwelt on the guilt of not being able to help in some small way. Whether he'd choose to unload some of what was weighing him down or not, sometimes just a little human interaction and idle chit chat was enough to brighten your spirits.
"I think I can spare a few," she said as she eased into the booth seat across from him, keeping to the edge so that she could keep an eye on the restaurant. She folded her hands on the table and relaxed back, giving an air of having all the time in the world and keeping companionably silent as an invitation for him to open the discussion to the topic of his choice.

Aiden Quinn
"I think I can spare a few," She sat opposite him and waited patiently for him to begin, it was a vastly different experience than the shut up and take orders approach he was use to. Aiden picked up the fork and began to prod and play with the pie while he decided how best to brooch the subject.
"So..." It already felt strange to him, talking about them clearly confirmed his feelings towards her . "Have you ever looked and seen that one person and just the lovely subtle way that they do things..." A slight crooked smile passed his lips for a second as Aiden recalled his encounters with Charlie. "And then all you get is the feeling of choking on the embers of a great blaze because you know the only promise you can make is that you will hurt them. You let this one person colour your world in a way you never knew all the while knowing that you aren't worth the sorrow that will become them. To be around them means that your own eyes scream self aspersions while you beg for a chance to show them a new and improved version of yourself because though you have never realized it till you see thema table for one has become completely unbearable. Knowing that it would never be allowed to happen so you go home every night and break into two pieces which then both die leaving only a scattered dream of the fiction you could both live."
And with that Aiden did two things; the first was to stab the fork into the pie while the second was to realize this was the longest conversation he had ever had with somebody in Storybrooke.

Gail was completely enthralled by his words. It was the clinking sound of the fork breaking through the pie and hitting the plate that pulled her out of it. During that beautifully worded speech, she'd somehow found herself sitting forward, her chin resting on her hand.
"Wow," she said as she leaned back against the seat again. She had not been prepared for something so intense. So deep. She took a moment to process. "As heartbreaking and tragic as that sounds, I'm actually sorry to say that I haven't. To feel that way about someone, so find someone that makes you feel that way... that's a rare gift. Most people don't find that, you know." She paused, frowning. "But I'm having trouble understanding why it can't be allowed or why you think you can only promise to hurt her."

Aiden Quinn
"But I'm having trouble understanding why it can't be allowed or why you think you can only promise to hurt her."
Aiden let out a long sigh as his thoughts drifted to Gold then to the things Gold had asked him to do and how Aiden had obeyed without a moment of hesitation, until now.
"Because she is pure and innocent, trusting and beautiful, everything that is right in this world and I'm... not. I'm not a nice person I have done things... not for self profit merely because I was told to and I didn't even twice about it."
Aiden felt a frog clamp down in his throat, home truths hit hard but the thought of Charlie calmed him, just her general being and essence comforted him in ways he couldn't describe. "In her I swear I can see further than I ever thought possible, all words get lost within her eyes all the while she shines like stars of gold. Meanwhile I am broken and dangerous like shards of glass and my violent waves don't mix with her oceans of blue."

I hear a low whisper coming from behind me.
"So...about those Kisses..."
I can feel her sneak up behind me, her perfume overwhelms me with its delightful scent.
"Weeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllll.... they are these rather small chocolates wrapped in tin foil with a lil tag coming out of it and they are delicious in a cupcake, though I suppose one could use them for smores. But who do I know that I could make smores with?" I rub my chin while I faux thinking about the question.

"Wow," she said again. Not just at the words but at the depths that this guy could feel. After a moment of gathering her thoughts, she spoke. "You know, the waves and the ocean, they're a part of each other and it's the waves of the ocean that smooth out the jagged edges. Rocks, cliff sides... even the sand of the shore disturbed by people who've dug into it and strewn it around is smoothed back into perfection by waves." She paused. "I guess what I'm trying to say is that certain people can try to turn you into these shards of glass or violent waves but it's really only you that can let them. Sometimes it takes a certain special person to motivate you to stop letting them."
She glanced at the clock, hopping up when she realized she'd gone over her allotted break time. "I should get back to work." She turned to head back toward the kitchen but paused. "You know, Aiden, if you really were not a nice person, you wouldn't be putting yourself through this turmoil."

"I should get back to work." She turned to head back toward the kitchen but paused. "You know, Aiden, if you really were not a nice person, you wouldn't be putting yourself through this turmoil."
"The Iranians have this philosophical religion called Zoroastrianism which is all about the opposition of good and evil with good only triumphing if it is by choice. The Dutch philosopher Baruch Spinoza once said "If all men are born free then so long as they are free could form no conception of good and evil."" Aiden looked up at Gail who may have had a point before taking a bite of the mashed and stabbed pie. "I have never had the choice and have just been told what to do for as long as I can remember, just going ahead and doing it like the slave I am, but maybe..." Aiden smiled up at Gail, the first honest smile he had had for along time "..Thanks..."

Ruby laughed, her lips turning up into a smirk. Two could play at this delightful little game. She pretended to think very hard, scrunching up her face just enough to give it an over exaggerated look. After a moment, she brightened and snapped her fingers like it had come to her.
"Well, I hear that Leroy just loves smores." She teasingly pulled away and began walking in the other direction, "You could always ask him if you're looking for a smore partner..."

Gail's smile faded and she took on a stern expression as she placed both palms on the table and leaned close, speaking very adamantly. "Everyone has a choice. No one can force you to do something you don't want to do."
She stood up and blinked in surprise at herself. Where had that come from? Something about not having a choice and being forced to do what people told you... it had set her off. She smiled apologetically. "Enjoy your pie," she said as she hurried off.
If she had memory of her real life, she'd have laughed at the irony and would have fully sympathized with Aiden.

"Well, I hear that Leroy just loves smores.""You could always ask him if you're looking for a smore partner..."
I followed her keeping a step or two behind while imagining sitting around a fire cooking smores with him only to feel shivers run down my spine. "See that is why love you, you're so smart. Perfect bromance material you gave me, I mean me with abs you could bounce quarters off of and him with his beard of rugged manliness. Although it does beg the question of what we will be shipped as? Litt? No that sounds terrible, how about Kiroy? Wow that is even worse. Guess I am just going to have to find someone else." I take a couple of quick steps so now I am walking right beside her. "Sooooooooo it looks like I am in need of a date for tonight, you wouldn't happen to be free at all? Would it help if I said I was Batman?"

Ruby stopped in her trajectory down the street and suddenly turned so that Kitt would walk right into her, "Well, it wouldn't hurt..." Her fingers roamed over his chest, then his shoulders before finally leaving feather light trails on his forearms. "Of course, I'll have to check my schedule buuuuuuuuuuuuut...I think that you may be in luck." She laughed then and captured his lips with her own, breaking the faux coolness that the two had set between them.
"I think that we have the makings for smores at the B&B. Probably some extra goodies too..." It was true. It was also an excuse to avoid the market. 'Alone time' with Kitt seemed more appealing than running into a store full of people that her morning breakdown was probably currently circulating to. Despite the reminder of what their hooky date was all about, her smile reached her eyes as she grab Kitt's hand. "Let's go."
*Ruby and Kitt exited to the Bed and Breakfast*

Christian
**Enters from Main Street**
For the second time today in as many hours he found himself standing in the quaint little establishment by the counter. "Bet you didn't expect to see me again so-" He had expected to see Ruby waiting with that smirk of hers but she was gone. Christian just closed his mouth and took a look around the diner until he spotted Gail, one of the other employee's making her rounds. "Could I trouble you for two coffee's to go?" he smiled to back that up. She must be busy if she was running the shift by herself. "Thanks so much, and a few napkins if I may." He tried to keep his wet shirt from sticking to him by pulling on it a little, but just wound up slouching slightly so gravity would do the work for him. Turning his head back to his new "friend" Christian just shrugged. "Should just be a second."

Vanessa entered the diner right behind the milkface, who was going to buy her a new cup of coffee. The shirt of his still left behind a track of her previous one. Vanessa carefully avoided to walk in this track, as her shoes has been pretty expensive.
"Could I trouble you for two coffee's to go?"
Her head raised up to the counter and she couldn't suppress an eye-rolling, as she saw the waitress.
"Thanks so much, and a few napkins if I may.", the coffee donor said to the waitress, before he turned around to Vanessa. "Should just be a second."
"Oh, feel free.", she answered and added with a naughty laugh: "If I even haven't got a second, I wouldn't entered here, my dear." Her eyes turned to the waitress. Of course she would have understand the hint, wouldn't she?

"Bet you didn't expect to see me again so-"
Gail turned toward the voice. "Oh hi there, Christian! Good to see you again, so soon," she said, finishing what he'd been about to say. She turned her smile to the person next to him, ready to offer a greeting to Calliope whom she'd seen him connecting with earlier and her smile faltered for the slightest second. She was surprised to find Vanessa by his side. "Good to see you, too, Vanessa," she managed in a sincere tone. This Vanessa person wasn't pleasant to be around even when she was in a good mood but catch her in a bad one... well, she wouldn't wish that on anyone. What in the world are you doing with her? she wondered.
"Could I trouble you for two coffee's to go?"
"Wouldn't be any trouble at all!" she reassured with a dismissive wave. Especially since it's to-go, she mentally added.
"Thanks so much, and a few napkins if I may."
Noting his coffee-soaked attire, she'd already been on that and placed a clean towel on the counter in front of him as he finished the request. She then hurried to prepare the coffees. The sooner she completed the order, the less time Vanessa would be around to stir up trouble.
"Should just be a second."
"Oh, feel free.", "If I even haven't got a second, I wouldn't entered here, my dear."
Gail could clearly hear their exchange and just barely managed to roll her eyes at Vanessa's barb. She placed the two freshly brewed coffees in front of them and then neatly placed a cup of creamer and a container of various sugars beside them along with stirrers and the to-go lids to use once they prepared their coffees to their liking.
Normally she'd have prepared the coffees herself. She knew how everyone liked their coffees but in this case, she tried to avoid any opportunity of giving Vanessa bait. If she'd prepared it, there was a good chance Vanessa would have claimed it wasn't right, just to spite her.
"Can I get you two anything else?" she asked cheerily. Please say 'no'. she mentally repeated as a mantra as if she could will them to that answer and get them on their merry way. A smooth, quick transaction with only the one snide remark. That would be a story to tell Ruby.

Vanessa not even gave the waitress a nod when she was greeting her.
"Wouldn't be any trouble at all!"
Vanessa made a short sound, a mix of hard breathing and sarcastic laugh, as she heard the waitress' words. If already one cup of coffee seemed to overcharge her, how much would two at one time trouble her then? Then she gazed her with an overstated impressed look, as the cups of coffee were almost flying in her hands. She didn't think that this would motivate her to tip her, did she? Tss, but she placed the coffee without preparing it... Well, maybe that was a good thing. Then at least the coffee wouldn't be such miscarried like the last one. Actually it was a boon that one had landed on the milkface's shirt.
"Can I get you two anything else?", she heard her asking, while she was preparing the coffee on her own.
"Well, where are my manners!", Vanessa suddenly said to her coffee donor, just ignoring the waitress. "I'm Vanessa Bennett. You probably heard about me from my musical performances, didn't you?" Her hand grasped at the young man's shoulder, as they would be old friends.

Gail took care of them in short order. And even made it a towel for his shirt, which he was very grateful for. "Can I get you two anything else?" she asked as Christian started to soak up the extra coffee. "No, that will be all. Thanks so much!" he finished what he was doing and fished out some cash to pay the bill, making sure to leave a good deal extra for her time. As Christian turned to face his companion he was surprised as she put her hand on his shoulder. "Well, where are my manners! I'm Vanessa Bennett. You probably heard about me from my musical performances, didn't you?" He was starting to think he wasn't going to get a name.
"I'm pleased that we got our introductions after all." he chuckled just a bit, "My name is Christian." He had to think a moment. He didn't get out much, especially to the theater but he did know that name. "I don't think there are many who haven't heard of you, and that is saying a lot. I am now infinitely more mortified that I almost mowed down a local Celebrity!" He followed that up with a slightly nervous smile.

Oh my, the guy really had tip the waitress... For what? Being able to place two cups of coffee within five minutes...? Tss... But well, was his wasted money, not hers.
"I'm pleased that we got our introductions after all.""My name is Christian."
Vanessa gave him a plastic looking smile, while waiting his reaction to her personality.
"I don't think there are many who haven't heard of you, and that is saying a lot. I am now infinitely more mortified that I almost mowed down a local Celebrity!", lastly Christian added with a nervous smile.
She somehow liked the restrained nature of this guy, though these guys usually weren't her type. Probably his smooth words were playing a part in contributing to awaken her interest. So she gave him a broadened smile, slowly sliding down her red coloured nails on his shoulder.
"You seem to know what a lady likes to hear.", she responded, making sure to draw attention on a perfectly blink with her eyes, while sipping at her coffee.

(temp-played by Hollywood Heidi)
Regina sipped her coffee casually. Henry seemed uneasy so she wondered if perhaps he wasn't telling her the truth. And so she lingered, watching the patrons and with each passing minute, became more disheartened.
She relaxed when the Paige came walking down the sidewalk and turned into the diner path. Dropping her money and a tip on the counter, she passed by Henry. "I need to get to work. Don't be late to school," she said, running an affectionate hand over his hair.
Regina got to the door just as Paige did and held it open. "Good morning, Paige," she said, offering a rare smile. Not of kindness to the little girl but because her presence meant her son hadn't lied to her. Of course, if she'd known that Paige stopped by the diner most mornings, she would have still been skeptical.
Regina walked out, leaving behind a baffled Paige.

"You seem to know what a lady likes to hear." she responded slowly sliding down her red coloured nails on his shoulder. Christian couldn't help a shiver. Something inside him told him to go, to run but that was ridiculous right? He didn't want to be rude. "I just pay attention Miss Bennett, though I can't give myself too much praise seeing as how I broke my streak." he chuckled at the irony. "I do hope this somewhat makes up for it." Christian started to look around for a means to excuse himself and then saw the clock. His eyes widened. "It was a pleasure making your acquaintance but I must be getting back to work! I didn't realize how much time had passed."

Vanessa was amused how easy it was to fluster this young man. But well, who wouldn't get nervous, while sitting in front of a famous personality? "I just pay attention Miss Bennett, though I can't give myself too much praise seeing as how I broke my streak.""I do hope this somewhat makes up for it.""Oh, it's just Vanessa, my dear.", she responded with another perfectly blink of her eyes. "And don't sweat it. Even if the coffee isn't more than luke-warm... and we both know that's not your fault..." for a little moment her eyes wandered to the waitress behind the counter. "I'm fine with it." Vanessa gave him a cheering smile, before taking her hand off his shoulder. "It was a pleasure making your acquaintance but I must be getting back to work! I didn't realize how much time had passed.", Christian suddenly said. Speaking of the time Vanessa had a look at the clock herself. "So do I. It's arduous beeing me, you know?", she added with a quick laughter. "Will you visit my newest musical next sunday? You can read about it on every..." An irritated expression was shown on Vanessa's face, as she looked around the Diner's walls. Where the hell did they hang up her flyers?! Unbelievable! Good that she always had some with her. Vanessa took out one of the flyers about the musical and handed it out to Christian. "Here you go. Hope to see you there." Another blink with her eyes followed, before she emptied the rest of her coffee in one gulp. (Ooc: the flyer is showing a performance of Disney's The Little Mermaid next Sunday, with Vanessa Bennett in the leading role as Ariel. )

Christian took the flyer and looked it over. The Little Mermaid was displayed across the bottom of the page following some very top-rate visuals from the show. Ariel, that was a very beautiful name. And a show about the sea? It was something he wouldn't mind seeing. Maybe he could bring someone... "I would love to! I suppose I'll be seeing you then... Vanessa." He scooped up his coffee and excused himself, heading out the front door and back to the Marina.

With Christian gone, she hoped Vanessa would follow soon after. Very soon. Like right now would be great, Gail thought as she beamed a cheery smile at Vanessa. "You have yourself a lovely day, Vanessa," she said as she did a quick wipe-down of the counter where the two had sat, pushed the usual table fixtures of sugar packets, salt, pepper, etc. neatly into place and then reached for Vanessa's empty coffee cup.
Despite what she thought of this woman, Gail sounded sincere in her well wishes. Working in the service industry, it was part of the job. Saying demon out! while shoving Vanessa out of the diner was not, however, proper work etiquette for a waitress, though the image helped make it easier to keep the smile.

"I would love to! I suppose I'll be seeing you then... Vanessa.", Christian said before he excused himself and headed out the front door.
Vanessa put the empty cup down the table, when the waitress beamed a pitiful smile at her. "You have yourself a lovely day, Vanessa." "Don't worry, I will.", she responded with a plastic looking smile. A smile, which wasn't hiding how wrong it was. Then Vanessa stood up to leave for work as well. But before she went out the door, she turned around one last time. "Oh, and it's Miss Bennett for you." Without waiting for any reaction she continued her way out.

"Demon out," she muttered under her breath as the door closed behind Miss Bennett. She grabbed the empty to-go cup, noting the wastefulness when she could have used a perfectly fine mug if she was going to stay long enough to finish her coffee here. Would have been more eco-friendly if she'd have immediately left with her to-go cup, she thought to herself as she tossed the cup in the garbage. Her smile returned as the small remnants of coffee dribbled out forming a perfect coffee stain mustache across Vanessa's face on the discarded flyer.
With a cheerful bounce in her step, Gail continued her rounds.

***Later that night***
Gail gracefully made her rounds through the dinner crowd. In her mind, it was like a dance from one table to the next, from the kitchen to the tables, from the tables to the cash register and back again. She had this waitressing thing down to a science.
The dinner rush was winding down and despite the fact she loved her job, she was glad for it. Almost time to go home and overall a great day of tips. Vanessa had been the only stain on an otherwise perfect day.

The night was winding down and Gail took advantage of the quiet to get a head start on her closing duties. She topped off the last patron's coffee, assuring him he could relax and take his time and that Ana would take care of him, should he need anything further.
Gail shrugged into her coat and grabbed an empty bus box, tossing a couple clean rags and a bottle of all-purpose cleaner into it before heading out the front to the outside dining area.
"Brr," she said with an exaggerated shutter as a chilly breeze swept past her. Still not as chilly as the reception I got from Vanessa, she thought. "Miss Bennett," she muttered in correction, adding a "Bleh," to accompany the shutter at the thought of that horrid woman. She put an extra hop in her step to warm herself quicker as she made her way down the stairs to the tables.
Only one table had been used that night, the chill in the evening air making the others opt for indoor dining. She placed the bus box on the clean table beside it, removing the cleaning supplies from within and began carefully piling the dirty dishes into it.

Archie
Archie sat back in his chair, pushing away the paperwork he’d been attempting to get ahead on. After re-reading the same paragraph five times without retaining any of the information, he decided he should quit for the night. The paperwork would still be here tomorrow, and he’d be much more capable of filling it out.
He stood up, putting some of the papers he would look at in the morning into his briefcase, before pulling on his coat and attaching the leash to Pongo’s collar. He grabbed the umbrella that was leaning against the wall, turned off the lights, and locked his door, before heading home.
However, he hadn’t even gotten three steps when he noticed Gail across the street, starting to clean up the diner. While she obviously had everything under control; he couldn’t help but wonder if she’d like some help. Deciding to offer, partly out of his desire to have a conversation that wasn’t in a professional setting, he crossed the street.
“Hello, Gail,” he greeted, standing near the fence so he could tie Pongo’s leash to the fence if she accepted his assistance. “Would you like some help?” As soon as the words left his mouth he was worried that she’d take it the wrong way. What if she assumed he thought she wasn’t capable at her job, or that he was attempting to flirt with her? Maybe this was why he tended to stick to professional relationships; he worried too much about interactions that didn’t involve counseling.
