"Its pristine condition is really fascinating, isn't it?" He had almost been free and clear... His shoulders slightly hunched in mid sneak, Christian was forced to relax his pose and turn back to face the shop keeper. "It is, very nice. It would make a nice gift because well, who doesn't like the sea right?" He mentally berated himself for making this even more awkward. Christian wasn't much good at idle chitchat but it was better than silence as he felt he was being scrutinized under that stare.

"It is, very nice. It would make a nice gift because well, who doesn't like the sea right?"
Well, some do even after getting caught in its clutches... "How true.", Mr. Gold answered with the hint of a smile and added after a little pause: "It's just a shame then that it's non-saleable." Inwardly Mr. Gold was pleased about the former prince's disappointment. Especially because the alleged non-saleability was a spontaneous move. As said, no one leaves his shop without getting anything... even if it was just some taunt.

"It's just a shame then that it's non-saleable." Christian could not help but feel this Mr. Gold was playing mind games with him. Why else would he build it up only to tell him it was not for sale... "I'm sorry to hear that, is it spoken for? Some things just jump out at you and that one sure does..." He trailed off and realized he shouldn't be quite so interested in the shell in front of the man. At least not outwardly. It would likely cost him a fortune if he could manage to strike a deal. Not that Callie wasn't worth it but who knew, the man might want his soul in return.
The thought made Christian chuckle to himself until he made eye contact once more and though he wasn't too far from the mark. He just cleared his throat and tried to put on a good poker face as it were.

"Oh, it is spoken for." With a chuckle he auspiciously added: "...maybe." Of course it was not. But did he know? "You know, it... depends on what it is worth for you.", he said, leaning over the counter with a devilish grin.

"You know, it... depends on what it is worth for you." He thought long and hard about that last comment. Christian knew even a high cash offer wouldn't likely sway the shop owner's decision to sell. Money wasn't an issue with this man, he knew that much. But what would it take? What would be fair... " I don't suppose you would have something you where looking for perhaps? Something equally pristine maybe? I do come across things of the like sometimes down at the Marina. Things of equal value." He had no idea if that would entice Gold but it was worth a shot.

Mr. Gold was able to see him mulling over it for a while and he kinda enjoyed that. With an amused smile he followed up on his comment. "You offer me something equal from the Marina for this? Do I look like a souvenier-seller?" Gold consolidated his voice on the last words. He never did a deal or even had any talk with this man before (well, at least not in Stroybrooke), so the former prince really seemed to feel helpless what to offer him else, didn't he? Actually he had no interest in anything from him for now. "But nice shot.", he admitted, while turning his eyes around to give him the feeling to not take him seriously anymore.

He felt pretty stupid now, "Do I look like a souvenier-seller?" Gold's comment shut that bargain down for good it seemed. Christian had nothing to offer him. At least not now anyway. "Perhaps another time then, thank you for your help." He feigned trying to look for something else of interest but only what lie between him and the door. He started moving towards it without looking back, but he was sure he could feel Gold's eyes on him still. The conversation between him and the woman had not started back up just yet.
Just as he reached for the door he thought he heard the sound of singing. It was so very faint it must have been in his head. Christian turned to where it sounded like it was coming from though and found himself looking at that shell. He clearly wasn't getting enough sleep, especially since no one else seemed to have heard anything. Glad that the other two had not yet resumed their discussion, he walked back over to Mr. Gold. "If you find your buyer falls through, or you change your mind, please let me know. I'm sure you know how to find me. I'm sure we could work something out."

"Perhaps another time then, thank you for your help.", he heard the young man saying, before moving towards the door to leave.
Well, if he was giving up that fast, he didn't understand the real value of it. Of course he didn't. How could he, if there was no magic around. God, he was so tired of living without magic... Without attracting attention Gold picked up the shell from the showcase beside, turned it around and slowly twiddled the barely perceptible cog at the bottom of the shell. Even though there was no magic, there were marks the magic had left behind. And this one would catch the former prince's full attention for sure. Gold carefully released the cog and the faint sound of a beautiful singing voice raised a song through the store. So faint, so surreal sounding, that it was just like an imagined sound, which faded away already after a few seconds.
"If you find your buyer falls through, or you change your mind, please let me know. I'm sure you know how to find me. I'm sure we could work something out.", Mr. Fry suddenly walked back over to him.
And so his action served its purpose. Curiousity. So huge that he would give anything for getting it... Well, if there would have been something interesting for him. But wasn't it always useful to have something up his sleeve when it was needed? "Sure.", he just replied with a satisfied smile, before turning his head around back to Ms. DiMarco, one of his newest deal partner. "So, where were we? Oh yes, the price..." From the corner of his eye he watched the young man being left standing.

He seemed satisfied that he had done all he could. With a nod to Mr. Gold and a somewhat confused glance to the shell that rested now in its owners hand, he turned back for the door to exit the shop. It was about time he got back to work... Not that anyone would be missing him terribly he thought...

BIANCA (Moderator approved temp-play)
Bianca growled in frustration as another patron paused outside the door. Knowing full well that Gold put off anybody who already wanted something from him for the chance to draw someone else into his web, she decided to stop wasting her time. At least for the moment.
She picked up the picture and stomped passed him for the door. "I'll be back when you're less busy."

***Gabriella enters from Tarzan's Lookout***
Gabriella paused outside of Mr. Gold's shop as she finished her call. Her curiosity over the map had really gotten to her and so pressed with time, she'd decided to put in a quick call to the pet shelter rather than stop by. Everything was fine, as she'd imagined since they hadn't contacted her. She dropped her phone into her pocket and reached for the door but it swung out of her grasp as an unhappy patron stomped past.
Maybe now wasn't a good time... but curiosity over the map overpowered that thought so she entered.
She eyed the items on the shelves with curiosity as she tentatively approached Mr. Gold. "Hi, Mr. Gold. I was wondering if I could take a moment of your time? Oh--Gabriella," she said, holding out her hand. Being a shut-in who spent most of her time at work or home, she wasn't sure who, if anybody, outside of her small circle knew her name or even the fact that she lived there.

Right after Mr. Gold has ended his question towards Ms. DiMarco, the doorbell rang another time and the next patron entered his shop. Wow, what a day! The patrons seemed to fly in as pesky flies. With the big difference that you can't make deals with flies.
"I'll be back when you're less busy.", Ms. DiMarco said in an annoyed tone from the side, while picking up the picture and hurried to the door.
Fine with him. He knew what she wanted him to do. Maybe it would be even a great move to tell his price after found that person. It would make her more compliant. Gold watched her leaving his store with a satisfied grin on his face. Then his eyes turned to the new patron. My, my! Look who it was... his personal servant in the matter of getting information about some lost objects. And not even that... also one of his former trainees. A smirk layed on his lips, as she pictured herself in front of him.
"Hi, Mr. Gold. I was wondering if I could take a moment of your time? Oh--Gabriella,"
Surprisingly she was holding out a hand to him. There weren't many persons who did. Actually... no person at all. But with a friendly smile Mr. Gold gave her hand a little shake, more like holding it for a moment. "Hello, dear.", he responded, taking back his hand and instead put them on the counter. "What can I do for you today?"

"Actually, I came to ask about an item I had purchased from your store. Not sure if you remember? It was a map. An unusual one with circles that turned."
She waited a moment to let him absorb that, assuming he didn't remember her as she had quietly made her purchase and left. People didn't tend to pay her much attention as she avoided drawing attention.
"I didn't think much about it other than it was an interesting piece that would look nice above the mantle," she explained, downplaying the fact she'd felt a strong pull to it, "but I've gotten curious of its history. I was wondering if there was anything you could tell me about it?"

"A map...", he pretended to have to think about it for a moment. "Yes, I remember that one." Of course he remembered! Lastly the map in her hands could serve him a lot of informations. But sometimes it was quite fun to play the unknowing shop keeper though. Well then, the maps history. He wouldn't tell her its true history, even if she won't believe it anyway, would he? Of course not.
Mr. Gold clasped his hands on the counter, giving the lady a friendly smile. "Oh it has its history beyond all question. And above all so many different holders. It is even said some of them has been the most infamous persons of all time." The smile on his lips broadened just for a little moment, before he continued. "Pirates.", Mr. Gold lastly answered her questioning face. "...to be correct."

"Pirates?" she echoed back in surprise. Pirates, she thought again as her eyes fell on swords displayed in a glass case. Images of pirates and treasure hunts flashed through her brain and strangely, it gave her a thrill of excitement. Her surprise melted into a smile. So he knew what he'd had which meant he'd been fine with parting with it. That meant she didn't need to be as careful as she'd thought.
"Pirates. How exciting! So then the map is... or at least was as some point, a real treasure map." She tried fishing for more information. "I'm assuming since it found it's way to an antique shop that whatever treasures it had led to have since been found." She paused a moment. "Or the map itself was a decoy? Surely it'd be a fool's errand if we--I," she quickly corrected, "were to set out to a location on the map." She gave a dismissive wave and chuckled as if the idea were a silly and fanciful.
Bloody hell, she was horrible at this. She'd wanted to sound casual as if the thought only just struck her but her slip-up with the word 'we' might give away the fact she'd already discussed the possibility with someone else.

Mr. Gold's eyes were observing her, while hers fell on the swords in one of the glass cases near the counter. These ones had it's history as well, but that was another...
"Pirates. How exciting! So then the map is... or at least was as some point, a real treasure map.", she lastly faced back at him.
Mr. Gold gave her a friendly smile, as she already was about to continue.
"I'm assuming since it found it's way to an antique shop that whatever treasures it had led to have since been found.""Or the map itself was a decoy? Surely it'd be a fool's errand if we--I,""were to set out to a location on the map."
A friendly smile was still everything shown up on his face, whereas he felt amused about Mrs. Stevenson's reaction. That she tried so hard to sound casual and then buffled herself with only one little word.
"Let me ask you a question, dear.", he suddenly responded, turning around the cane in his hands. "There is laying a hundred-dollar bill on the ground. Person A leaves it untouched in fear it could be counterfeit money. Person B picks it up and takes that risk. Well now, who do you think is the fool in our little story?" With a now amused smile he was waiting for an answer to his actually rhetorical question.

She returned the amused smile. "I see your point. A possibility of a reward and there's no risk, especially when it's practically right in front of you. And if there's nothing--if that money is counterfeit," she shrugged, "nothing has been lost."
On the topic of fools, this man was far from one and she didn't fancy herself as one either. She eyed him skeptically, knowing full well this wasn't about hypothetical money on a hypothetical ground. "You didn't baulk at the notion the map could be real. If you think there's the slightest chance that the map may lead to something, why would you part with it?"

"Exactly.", Mr. Gold responded her elaborate answer. She was interested since the word pirates had left his lips. And so was the plan.
"You didn't bulk at the notion the map could be real. If you think there's the slightest chance that the map may lead to something, why would you part with it?"
"I'm not sure if this job is... handicap accessible.", he answered, raising his cane a little. A smirk was shown in the corner of his mouth.

The smirk along with the air of confidence and the way his every movement and word spoke of his self assurance gave her the impression that nothing could stop him if he decided he wanted something.
"Mr. Gold, you strike me as the type of person who wouldn't let anything," she gestured to the cane, "get in the way of something you've set your mind to. So why sell the map to me? Why not hire someone to retrieve whatever treasures may still exist?"

And finally they came to the interesting point. "Well, Miss Stevenson, you strike me as the type of person who is reliable enough to return with whatever treasures may still exist.", Mr. Gold passed the ball back to Gabriella.

"Me. A treasure hunter." Gabriella blinked at him. "You're telling me, when I walked in that door the day I bought that map, you thought, 'hey, there's a reliable looking adventurer'." A laugh bubbled up at the mental image. "I'm no Indiana Jones or... or pirate or--wait. Hold on a minute. Rewind," she made a circling gesture with her hand. Immediately sobered, she shot him an accusing glare. "I never told you my last name."
When she'd bought that map, she'd paid cash and only the basic, minimum amount of words between sales person and patron had been exchanged. Certainly not introductions. Had he done some sort of background check on her? Is that how he'd ensured she was a reliable person? Each question branched off to more going in hundreds of directions so she tried to quiet her mind as she awaited his response.

Mr. Gold had to join in her short laughter. Just when he wanted to start the ball rolling, she made him stop.
"...Hold on a minute. Rewind,"
Suddenly a questioning expression appeared on his face, waiting for her to continue.
"I never told you my last name."
Oops... That was an accident waiting to happen someday. Ok, time for some improvisation. "Nameplate.", he replied as self-confident as possible, clothing his face in smiles. "You have worn one the day you bought the map. I just never forget a name, dearie." Was that maybe too risky? He knew that she was a nurse, so it was the first evasion came into his mind.

"Oh..." she said distractedly as she thought back to that day. She had just come from work and she did oftentimes forget to take off her name badge, seeing as she usually only went between work and home. "Right, sorry," she said with a slight flush.
She quickly pushed past her embarrassment by getting back to the previous topic. "I'm not quite sure I understand. Whatever I find--if I find anything--if I even ever get around to playing pirate," she began, downplaying any notion that she'd not only considered it but had already set plans, "whatever I happen across would, by all rights, belong to me. You sold me a map, not hired me for a job. Reliable or not, why would I return?"
Sometimes people mistook her quiet, private nature and frumpy appearance as weakness. Dissuading him of any notions of the kind, she crossed her arms as she leveled him with a steady gaze, waiting for the answer. She didn't know this Mr. Gold or what his intentions were but if he expected her to play fetch as if she were his obedient little dog, he had another thing coming.

Mr. Gold’s face stayed unreadable, but inwardly it was showing a triumphant grin. He didn’t wanted to blow it with her yet, as he knew her as the stubborn person she was. God, how much it had him cost his nerves back in the training time with Jekyll…
"I'm not quite sure I understand. Whatever I find--if I find anything--if I even ever get around to playing pirate,", she got back to the topic.
If, if, if… Yup, she was the same stubborn person as in the old times.
"whatever I happen across would, by all rights, belong to me. You sold me a map, not hired me for a job. Reliable or not, why would I return?"
“Because you will come back here anyway. If you find anything, you will need the trained eye of someone who is antique-object-wise. Someone like… an antiquities dealer.”, he added with a cheery smile, again leaning over his cane. “And if you need a proof for it,” Oh, of course she needed. She always needed… “just look, who came back here to get some information about an antique object.”, he said with an amused undertone in his voice, doing a welcoming gesture with his hands.

“Because you will come back here anyway. If you find anything, you will need the trained eye of someone who is antique-object-wise. Someone like… an antiquities dealer.”
Gabriella studied him as he spoke. The more time she spent in his presence, the more wary she became of him. There was something she just didn't trust about him. Perhaps it was his overconfidence and inflated ego. That deceptive smile of his didn't reflect one of kindness. More like one of superiority over a lesser being. He was so bloody sure she would be back and that alone was enough to prod at her stubborn nature.
“And if you need a proof for it,” “just look, who came back here to get some information about an antique object.”
The gall of him, acting as if he knew her. The amusement in his voice at the fact that she'd come back to him for answers as he'd expected and the implication that she needed him threw fuel on the fire of her pride. "Yes, but that is because I purchased that map directly from you," she stubbornly pointed out. "Now that I've gotten my questions answered, I thank you for your time, Mr. Gold. Thank you for your offer. I'll be sure to consider it as one of my options." She'd said it flippantly as one would when giving the brush-off to a sales pitch. "Good day." With that, she turned and started for the door.
Bet you didn't see that coming, she thought with satisfaction.

"Yes, but that is because I purchased that map directly from you,""Now that I've gotten my questions answered, I thank you for your time, Mr. Gold. Thank you for your offer. I'll be sure to consider it as one of my options." "Good day."
Oh yes, this was his little shrew... In place of disappointment again a confident smile was shown on his lips, while Gabriella turned around, heading towards the door. As if he didn't know that this would happen, though Gabriella without any doubt was sure to have a firm hand on the tiller.
Mr. Gold's hand reached out for a round object near to the counter. An object he never placed far away from him, as he was just waiting for this situation to happen. He slowly twiddled the clockwork at the object's backside. Maybe he wasn't able to use magic in this land, but he still was able to manipulate people to get what he wants. And he knew how to get her attention. A short beautiful melody was sounding through the shop, made Gabriella stop her steps.
"Deep Inside there is no light. In the darkness, look, it's Hyde...", Mr. Gold broke the sudden silence with an insinuated chant, after the music box had stopped. An amused smile was showing on his face.

As Gabriella approached the door, a beautiful, haunting melody slowed her steps to a halt. She turned and stared as the foreign yet familiar music box, feeling herself involuntarily moving toward it, the sweet, hypnotic tickling music made her eyelids feel heavy as her mind fogged.
A twinge of realization worked its way through the fog and she tried to shake it off, managing to gain only enough control to tear her eyes from the music box and to Mr. Gold. "Stop," she pleaded weakly but was only met with that infuriating smile of amusement. He knew what it was doing to her.
"Deep Inside there is no light.
She felt a darkness stirring in the fog of her mind as the carefully constructed wall began to crumble. Elle. Her eyes widened. "Stop," she said again mustering a little more force. She wanted to cover her ears but was unable to move.
in the darkness, look, it's Hyde..."
She felt the reigns of control fall as they were yanked away with an accompanied sinister laugh of triumph. And suddenly, she jolted as she found herself pulled into her mind.

With the first sign of freedom, Elle grasped at it without a moment of hesitation, shoving Gabriella to the background. She took in a deep breath, relishing the feeling of being able to do so. She took in the sight before her, a man with a knowing grin and Elle knew she had him to thank for this. Sensing the darkness within him, she immediately felt a kinship.
"Well, well," she said, a wicked grin spreading across her face as she slowly walked around him, dragging the fingers of one hand along his shoulders. "Hello, dark, sinister, and..." her fingers slid down his arm to his hand, feeling the cold metal of the object he grasped. She glanced down at the cane before back at him, "gimpy. You freed me." She smoothed her hands over the lapels of his jacket, leaning close. "How could I ever repay you," she cooed.
Elle found herself yanked from the forefront as the stuffy bitch took back over.

Gabriella found herself pressed close to Mr. Gold. Horrified, she jumped back and covered her ears as a throaty, sinister laugh filled her head. In the past, when Elle took over, Gabriella had always been left in complete darkness, oblivious to how much time had passed or what had occurred while she was locked away. This time had been different. She'd been able to see what Elle saw. Hear what Elle heard and said. Apparently, by the laughter still ringing in her head, Elle was now able to do the same.
"Gah, stop it! Shut UP!" she shouted aloud at Elle. She could actually feel Elle pout and jolted as Elle's voice spoke in her mind. "Oh, look at little mousy Gabriella, all authoritative! I'm mildly impressed." The last dripped with sarcasm.
Gabriella glared at Mr. Gold. "Do you have any idea what you've done?" Of course he did. She took an angry, menacing step toward him. "Whatever you did, undo it," she demanded.

The satisfied smile on Mr. Gold´s lips didn’t disappear, was actually growing even more, as Hyde, alias Elle, was showing up out of the inner darkness.
"Well, well,""Hello, dark, sinister, and...", he heard her saying with a different undertone in her voice, while her fingers touched his shoulder, slid down his arm, where they lastly met with his cane.
"…gimpy. You freed me.""How could I ever repay you,", she added with a coo, leaning close to him. Cold, calculating and manipulative. This woman could have go places, if there wasn’t that stubborn shrew always withholding her. Mr. Gold watched her wordless, as the just mentioned side took back over and let her suddenly jump back from him.
"Gah, stop it! Shut UP!"
She will never be fully herself, when she didn’t let it go. What a waste of talent.
"Do you have any idea what you've done?", she did burst out at him. "Whatever you did, undo it,"
With a feigned, mightily impressed face Mr. Gold let out a short laughter, before he responded: "Why do you think that I have something to do with this little... event of yours?" Now he was the one leaning closer. "Let us assume, I do. Then why would I feel the need to undo it, my dear?"
