***Charlotte enters from Woods - Charlotte & Her Aunts' Cabin***
Charlotte hummed as she walked along the familiar trail to the town. She zipped up her jacket against the chilly dawn and slowed as she approached town. She'd finally reached the treeline. Charlotte tucked her hair back and pulled the hood of her jacket on. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly as she stepped out toward the back of the buildings of the sleeping town.

I hear a long buzzing noise and slowly open my eyes, I turn my head and realize its my alarm going off so I hit a button stopping the buzz. I get up off my bed and stretch so I don't pull a muscle, I put some shorts on and press a button on a cd player letting music roar through my cabin.
I'm alive I'm alive
When you're dead inside
I'm a slap in the face
To your lullaby
Got you all tongue tied
'Cause you're living a lie my friend
I cant down on the ground face down placing my knuckles on the ground I begin to left my body up, beginning my morning routine. 47, 48, 49, 50, I count in my head before stopping, I then lay on my with my feet flat on the ground with my knees pointed up and begin doing sit ups touching my left knee with my right elbow. 1, 2, 3, 4. After my sit ups I get up and go outside and add 25 pull ups to my morning exercise collection, I then hydrate before finishing up with 25 dips on the parallel bars. '150' I think to myself while stretching and cooling down 'not bad', I walk back into my cabin and turn the shower I throw my sweaty clothes in a laundry hamper as I take them and get in the hot steamy water.

***Charlotte enters from Storybrooke Country Bread***
Charlotte was still so ecstatic from her first day of running the bakery with her aunts that she almost found herself skipping. But that would be hardly practical of a thing to do in the woods so she opted to release all the pent up energy and excitement through singing.
She pushed back the hood of her jacket and freed her hair from the hair band and as soon as she felt she was in far enough away from town, she began to sing. The woods were her favorite place to sing. She loved the acoustics and the accompaniment of the chirping birds.

*Ruby enters from Granny's Bed & Breakfast*
Ruby looked around uncertainly, the light barely making it's way through the canopy of trees over her head. She thought she had followed Kitt's directions but she had still managed to get herself lost. She was in a midst of retracing her steps, imaging all the wild animals that could possibly eat her before she made it to Kitt's, when the sound of singing made her jump. Ruby was surprised to see a girl she didn't recognize coming down the path. That was weird, Ruby thought that she knew everyone in town... But she could kill two birds with one stone- satisfy her curiosity and see if she could get back on track.
"Uh, hey there," she picked up her pace to catch up with the girl, "I was wondering if you could tell me how to get back to the main trail."

"Uh, hey there," "I was wondering if you could tell me how to get back to the main trail."
Charlotte gasped in surprise at the voice behind her. It was extremely rare for someone other than herself or her aunts to be in this part of the woods. She quickly turned around and her tension eased when she saw the woman. The woman appeared to be around her own age and looked to be nice. Plus she looked so pretty and non-threatening in her pretty dress.
Charlotte still had a couple hours until her aunts left the bakery. She gave the woman a tentative smile. "Sure. I could take you the main trail, if you'd like."

"Sure. I could take you the main trail, if you'd like."
"Really? That would be awesome!" A huge grin spread across Ruby's face. She had just been hoping for some directions but a guide was even better! Plus, safety in numbers. "I don't really know these woods very well, always been more of a town-dweller. I'm so glad I ran into you, I'd probably be walking around in circles for hours!" Who are you mysterious girl wandering in the forest at dusk? Of course, Ruby figured, the other woman could be thinking the same of her.
"Oh, I'm Ruby, by the way. I don't think I've seen you around town before, are you new here?"

"Really? That would be awesome!"
Charlotte's tentative smile turned into a genuine one at the enthusiastic energy of this woman. The second person she met today and both had been so nice. She was starting to question her aunts' warnings about people in general.
"This way," she said as she began walking the opposite direction that they'd been going.
"I don't really know these woods very well, always been more of a town-dweller. I'm so glad I ran into you, I'd probably be walking around in circles for hours!"
Charlotte glanced at the woman as they walked side by side, envious at how outgoing and at ease the woman appeared to be talking to someone she'd just ran into in the woods. She was obviously used to conversing with people on a regular basis whereas this was only Charlotte's second time speaking to someone other than her aunts that she could remember.
"Oh, I'm Ruby, by the way. I don't think I've seen you around town before, are you new here?"
"I guess you could say I'm new around town," she said, nervously tucking her hands into her jacket pocket. This having to be cryptic and at the same time, trying to not come off as rude was new to her. "I'm Charlotte. Some people call me Charlie," she added with a smile. Well, her aunts mostly called her Charlie and she'd always imagined that if she'd had friends they'd have done the same. Charlotte attempted to switch the focus of the conversation to Ruby. "That's a very pretty dress, though hardly ideal for a walk in the woods. Where are you headed?"

"I guess you could say I'm new around town,"
Aha! She was new! Ruby want to ask more questions- no one new ever came to Storybrooke and this would be the perfect opportunity to find out about everything the outside world held- but she quickly reigned herself in. Years of waitressing had given her an unexpected talent of learning how to read people and the woman's body language was screaming secretive. Of course, in a town like Storybrooke secrets were meant to be found out eventually so Ruby just filed the information away to be asked about at a later time.
"I'm Charlotte. Some people call me Charlie. That's a very pretty dress, though hardly ideal for a walk in the woods. Where are you headed?"
Charlotte. The classic name seemed to suit her. It was a lot more classy than Ruby. Sometimes she wondered if her mother meant to have her grow up to be a stripper or a porn star.
Ruby made a face as she thought about her current attire, "Well, Charlie, I am supposed to be headed to..." She trailed off, not quite sure what to call Kitt. He wasn't a boyfriend, they hadn't even had their date yet. But he was more than a friend. "...A friend with potential's house. He lives in a cabin off of the main trail," she looked down at her dress, "Though, thinking about it now, it may have been kinda impractical to wear heels when I knew I'd have to do some walking through the woods. Truth is, I think I'm a little nervous which is weird because I never get nervous about guys." Ruby laughed a little, not exactly sure why she was sharing so much with a practical stranger but knowing it felt good to get it out. Besides, she got a good vibe from Charlie.
"So, not that I'm not totally grateful to you for rescuing me here, but what brings you to the woods so late?"

"Well, Charlie, I am supposed to be headed to..." "...A friend with potential's house. He lives in a cabin off of the main trail,"
There was someone else living in the woods? she wondered to herself. That was probably why her aunts told her to keep away from the main trail. And what did 'friend with potential' mean?
"Though, thinking about it now, it may have been kinda impractical to wear heels when I knew I'd have to do some walking through the woods. Truth is, I think I'm a little nervous which is weird because I never get nervous about guys."
The friend was a guy and she was nervous about meeting him added to the fact she was dressed to impress and Charlotte was able to figure out what 'friend with potential' meant. Her first actual girl talk and she found herself giddy to hear more.
"So, not that I'm not totally grateful to you for rescuing me here, but what brings you to the woods so late?"
"I love the woods. The trees, the animals, the way the sun and moon beams shine through and the mist covering the ground in the mornings. It all feels so..." she searched her mind for a good word to describe it, "magical. Like something out of a story." Charlotte was dying to hear more about Ruby and this mystery guy who also lived in the woods. "So this guy you're meeting. What's he like?"

"I love the woods. The trees, the animals, the way the sun and moon beams shine through and the mist covering the ground in the mornings. It all feels so... magical. Like something out of a story."
"That does sound nice..." Ruby mused thoughtfully. The description seemed so vivid to her but she couldn't put her finger on why. She must be spending too much time with Henry and his storybook.
"So this guy you're meeting. What's he like?"
She was powerless to stop the dopey smile that thinking of Kitt brought. Man, she had it bad. "Well, for one thing, he is hot. I mean, really, really hot. But it's more than just physical- he is so caring and sweet and smart. He sticks up for the underdog. He actually talks to me instead of at my chest when I wait on him at the diner. I've never really met another guy like him... Did I mention he was hot?" Kitt induced trance in five... four... three... two...

Charlotte's head swam at the way Ruby spoke. It was so... odd. Nothing like it was in the old books she'd read. It was obvious she was behind the times when it came to the current trends of conversing but was able to follow along and mostly work out what Ruby was saying. It was easy to see this Kitt must be something wonderful but Charlotte was concerned about one description Ruby used several times. Charlotte paused and looked at Ruby with concern and slight confusion at Ruby's enthusiasm over someone who seemed to be very sick. "How long has he been feeling really hot? If his fever is that high, shouldn't we get a doctor?"

"How long has he been feeling really hot? If his fever is that high, shouldn't we get a doctor?"
Huh? Ruby scrunched up her forehead in confusion, "He doesn't have a fever-" Suddenly she started laughing when she realized that Charlie had taken 'hot' in its most literal form. "Wow Charlie, you really do need to get out more! I meant that he is very good looking...That kind of hot. Not, like, temperature hot." Ruby gave her a good natured smile, "You've never heard it used that way before?"

"He doesn't have a fever-"
Charlotte felt herself flush with embarrassment as Ruby laughed. She stared down at her toes and grimaced. Apparently, she wasn't as good at this as she'd thought.
"Wow Charlie, you really do need to get out more! I meant that he is very good looking...That kind of hot. Not, like, temperature hot." "You've never heard it used that way before?"
"No," she said with a sheepish grin as she began walking again. "I've never heard temperature used to describe someone's appearance. Very odd," she added, wondering of it's origination.
They approached the trail and Charlotte stopped just before stepping into the clearing of it. "Here you are. If you head that way," she pointed right, "it will lead you back to town so you'll probably find your hot friend with potential's cabin in that direction," she said pointing to the left and hoping she was using these new terms correctly. "Some of these clearings can be wide enough to be mistaken for trails but if you're walking on foliage, you've left the main trail. Be sure to stick to the dirt trail and you should easily find your way there and back to town."

"No,""I've never heard temperature used to describe someone's appearance. Very odd,"
Ruby felt bad for obviously embarrassing her new friend but almost as overpowering was her curiosity about how sheltered Charlie's life must have been. She was determined to learn more about this mystery woman in the forest... after her date with Kitt, of course.
"Here you are. If you head that way,""it will lead you back to town so you'll probably find your hot friend with potential's cabin in that direction,""Some of these clearings can be wide enough to be mistaken for trails but if you're walking on foliage, you've left the main trail. Be sure to stick to the dirt trail and you should easily find your way there and back to town."
She smiled at Charlie's use of the new slang terms. The girl certainly learned quickly. "Thanks again, Charlie!," she glanced at her watch, "It looks like I'll even be on time!"
She started down the main trail but only walked a few steps before turning back around to her guide, "Hey, I work in Granny's diner if you ever want to stop in sometime. The least I can do is score you a free meal for helping me out and I can fill you in on the date. Plus, someone needs to catch you up on all the latest slang," she added mischievously. She hoped that Charlie took her up on the offer, she was really missing someone to 'girl talk' with. Ashley had been distant ever since she found out she was pregnant and Ruby found it difficult to get close to most of the other women in town- the unfortunate side effect to having a reputation like hers.

"Thanks again, Charlie!," "It looks like I'll even be on time!"
"You're welcome," she said, smiling as Ruby began walking down the path.
"Hey, I work in Granny's diner if you ever want to stop in sometime. The least I can do is score you a free meal for helping me out and I can fill you in on the date. Plus, someone needs to catch you up on all the latest slang,"
"Oh, I would love that!" The sincerity was apparent in Charlotte's beaming smile. "Have a wonderful time!" she called out with a wave.
Charlotte began making her way back home, her smile slowly fading as she pondered the entire way home how she could manage to meet up with Ruby again. Walking in the front door of the diner was not an option, at least not yet. Baby steps, she reminded herself. If she pushed her aunts too hard too fast, she could lose all the progress she'd managed to make in one day and walking away in defiance in order to do what she wanted and abandoning the three women she loved dearly and who'd dedicated their lives to her was just not an option to Charlotte.

Ruby waved back before turning around to continue on her way. Meeting up with Charlie had been a nice, albeit unexpected, detour and it had succeeded in calming some of the nervous flip flops of her stomach that had been driving her crazy since she left the hospital. She made her way down the dirt path, being careful this time not to stray from it, until she spotted the large 'No Entry' sign that Kitt had told her about. Soon enough, a cozy looking cabin appeared through the trees. This was it.

***Calli and Charlotte enter from Storybrooke Country Bread***
Charlotte stepped into the woods and took in a deep breath of the trees and flowers and sighed. They were the comforting smells of the only home she'd ever known here in the woods. She pushed back her hood and looked around with a fond smile.
With her hands nestled comfortably in her pockets, she opted out of signing. "Have you ever ventured into the woods?"

"Have you ever ventured into the woods?"
Calli shook her head, taking in this new lush green world around her. "Not really. I've always stayed more around the waterfront. That's where I grew up. My father is a fisherman at the docks."
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed two squirrels leaping from tree to tree in what seemed to be a frantic game of tag. The scene made her smile in delight. Such small creatures to be able to completely break the serene peace that seemed to lay over the forest. Somehow, Calli had absolutely no problem picturing Charlie growing up in this place. It fit her.
"What was it like? Growing up in a forest?"

"It's hard to say. I've never known anything different. But I do love it. The smell of the trees and flowers, the peace and tranquility, the animals." Speaking of animals, it was too quiet. Charlotte came to a stop and held up a hand for Calli to stop as well. "Something's not right."
She knew these woods so well to know that the two of them walking would not cause enough of a disturbance to quiet all the animals. She did not see much movement, save for the squirrels that she now guessed were moving to a different part of the woods. Something had spooked them.
Charlotte cautiously moved around the perimeter, pausing near a tree where a beam of the setting sun through the trees glinted off metal. She angrily grabbed a small branch off the tree and pushed the trigger of the trap causing it to close with a loud SNAP.

Aiden had followed the two women through the woods like a cat stalks its pray, silently, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. Although this wasn't quite as thrilling as a cat stalking its prey Aiden thought to himself as he slumped against a tree with his hands in his coat pockets. He watched as Charlie grabbed a branch off a nearby tree and stab it into the glint of the trap. "Great... now I have to get closer. Gold would kill me if something were to happen to his flavor of the week." Aiden said to himself as he made his way through the woods closer to the two women he had been watching but continuing to stay out of sight.

"It appears we have a poacher," Charlotte said angrily as she used the stick to push aside branches and leaves to peer into the nearby shrubs for more traps.
She didn't own the woods but these woods were her home and as far as she was concerned, nobody had the right to set traps or to hurt the animals living here. There was also the fact that she and her aunts travel through these woods. What if one of her aunts accidentally stumbled into a trap? It was enough to put her in a rare angry state.

"It appears we have a poacher,"
"A poacher?" Calli's eyes were wide as her gaze went between Charlie and the now defunct trap. It looked more like a medieval torture device that she had seen on The History Channel. Sure to be painful for any animal that had the misfortune of finding his way into it. "Charlie, who would do such a thing?"
Though Calli had been on her own for quite some time, she had not had the opportunity to meet many people with a malicious intent. But with a fully stocked town behind them, what else could one be doing setting traps like these in the woods? At the very least, it was a poor judgement call as they were not far from the main trail and any innocent bystander could get caught as easily as a defenseless animal. She grabbed her own stick and began to poke around the brush opposite of Charlie.

She watched Calli sign and then shook her head. "I don't know but I intend to find out," she said with angry determination.
Charlie paused as she heard a strange, faint squeaky sound. "Shh," she whispered, holding out a hand to signal that they stand still. "I thought I heard something."
Sure enough there was that sound again. It was coming from the bushes near her, the direction she'd been heading. Charlie dropped the stick and knelt down, carefully pushing the branches and leaves aside until she found the source of the little squeaks of pain and alarm. A white rabbit shrank back as best it could with it's leg caught in the teeth of a trap.
"Oh, you poor thing," she sad sadly. She began reaching toward the trap but stopped when the rabbit let out another sound of pain as it attempted to shrink back in fear. She couldn't blame the poor little thing for being scared but Charlie didn't want the rabbit to injure itself any further.
Music had always soothed Charlie and she'd found that it did the same for the animals she'd encountered and took care of until they were ready to be released back into the woods. She settled for one of her favorites from her Judy Garland record. Her voice carried smoothly and clearly as she sang in a slow, soothing tempo.
"Smile though your heart is aching Smile, even though it's breaking When there are clouds, in the sky, you'll get by "
The rabbit began to relax as it realized Charlotte wasn't a threat. It's squeaks of pain stopping as it stopped trying to struggle.
"If you smile, through your fear and sorrow Smile, and there'll be tomorrow You'll see the sun come shining through If you'll.... "
Charlotte cautiously reached out as she continued to sing, soothingly petting the soft fur of the bunny a couple of times before her hands moved to the trap, trying to find a release mechanism.
"Light up your face with gladness Hide every trace of sadness Although a tear, may be ever so near, That's the time, you must keep on trying Smile, what's the use of crying? You'll find that life is still worthwhile, If you'll just.... "
Charlie stopped singing and looked over at Calli in frustration. "I can't figure out how to open this stupid thing," she said quietly.

Aiden slowly walked up behind the two girls who had now bent over to investigate something he couldn't quite see, but he could clearly hear her sing and his job of getting her to audition for the musical had just gotten a whole heap easier. Aiden stood a step or so behind them with his hands in the pockets of his coat, "Are you ladies ok?"

Startled, Charlotte grabbed the stick as she jumped up and turned to face the person who'd sneaked up on them. "Aiden," she said, relaxing. She looked at him suspiciously. "What are you doing in the woods?"
If he was the one setting these traps, she was prepared to break the stick over his head, despite the fact he'd saved her from falling in front of a moving car.

"What are you doing in the woods?"
Aiden took his hands out of his coat pockets and held them up with his hands open and palms showing that he meant no harm. "Whoa Charlie, you can put the stick down sorry if I scared you. I was just going for a walk, ya know, these woods help me think."

"Sorry," she said, dropping the stick aside. "Someone has been setting traps and it has me all worked up." Charlotte knelt back down in front of the trap, trying again to find some sort of release switch or button and being careful not to further injure the rabbit. "You wouldn't by any chance know how to open one, would you?" she asked over her shoulder.

As Aiden looked over the trap, Charlotte kept the rabbit distracted with murmurs of reassurances in a soothing voice while feeding it a piece of carrot from the bait.
"I heard you singing just before. I wasn't trying to ease drop on you or anything but your voice is just so alluring, that is if you don't mind me saying."
The compliment had caught her off guard. She loved to sing and for as long as she could remember, it was just another part of her everyday life. She'd never thought much about it past her own enjoyment of singing along to her records or creating music with simply your voice, especially in a place like this where there were no records or radios.
"I don't mind," she said, feeling a blush creep up on her. "Thank you." She concentrated on the trap, willing the embarrassing blush to go away. "Do you think you can open it?" she asked hopefully.
