Callie couldn't have been more surprised if the totally handsome guy who had approached them had suddenly sprouted wings. She had been under the impression that Charlie didn't really know anyone in town other than her aunts. Certainly not an incredibly good looking guy who gave her compliments on her singing voice. But now wasn't the time to wonder about it. They had a bunny to rescue. Once that was through though, Charlie would definitely be getting the third degree.
"Is he going to be okay?" She signed as she knelt down next to the trap.

Callie drew Charlotte's attention as she knelt down near the trap.
"He's going to be just fine," she said with a reassuring smile. "I just don't know how bad the damage is." Charlotte studied Aiden, trying to gauge if he looked hopeful or doubtful in his endeavor to free the trap.

The trap was a relatively easy trap to open the trick was making sure the rabbit didn't try bolt off the instant it could as there would be a could chance it could lose the limb. Aiden continued pretending to study the trap as Charlie's friend bent down with him looking at the trap. "How rude of me, the name is Aiden..." Aiden took her hand and lightly kissed the back of it like a knight in the days of yore "Enchante mademoiselle"

"He's going to be just fine," "I just don't know how bad the damage is."
A sigh of relief escaped from Calli's lungs. She couldn't help but feel for the poor, scared little creature. It made her feel better to know that they had found him in time. "How rude of me, the name is Aiden..." "Enchante mademoiselle"
Calli's shoulders shook slightly in a silent giggle as Aiden's lips brushed the back of her hand. Charlie had sure found a charming one! She shot a look at the other girl, her eyebrows slightly raised with a mischievous grin. Yes, they certainly had a lot to discuss later.
"Calliope. It's nice to meet you, Aiden-" she began signing back, before realizing that Aiden might not understand. "Charlie, could you...?"

Charlotte was puzzled at the mischievous grin sent her way. She had a feeling her lack of experience in socializing and living in the real world had her missing something again. Once this was over and done with, she'd have to ask Calli. Another misapprehension she'd had was that everyone knew everyone in town. One of her daydreams of town life was taking a stroll and greeting everyone you passed with small talk and asking after their family. She wondered why that wasn't so. Was the town bigger than she'd thought? Did people keep to themselves? She hadn't imagined the latter until this moment as she'd always yearned to know and be known by each and every person.
"Calliope. It's nice to meet you, Aiden-" she began signing back, before realizing that Aiden might not understand. "Charlie, could you...?"
Charlotte shook herself out of her thoughts and gave Calli an apologetic smile. "Oh, of course. I apologize. I had assumed everyone knew everyone in town. Aiden, this is Calliope. She says it's nice to meet you."

"What can I say, I'm not allo... I don't get out all that much. So I am just going out on a limb here and going to be the closest thing to Sherlock Holmes I will probably ever be in my life and deduce that you either have one of those weird twin bond things OORR she is using sign language. In that case tell her I said hi." Aiden looked down at his hands and inspected both sides of them. "Actually teach me how to say hi in sign language."

Charlotte's main concern was the rabbit and she found herself a little frustrated with the distraction but she was raised with manners and didn't want to be rude.
Charlotte placed the carrot down in front of the rabbit and leaned back so as not to startle the rabbit with the hand movements. "It's quite simple. It looks like a salute," she said, signing 'hello', "but a simple wave would do as well." Charlotte took the opportunity to shrug out of her jacket before returning to feeding and petting the rabbit. She'd need the jacket to hold the rabbit once it was free. "I don't mean to be rude, but could we please concentrate on the trap? I don't know how much longer I can keep the little guy distracted and he really needs medical attention," she said, sounding slightly distressed. "I promise to repay you somehow. Sign language lessons... anything."

Callie was glad that the dusk had fallen, as it more easily covered the tinge of pink coloring her face immediately took on with the guilt of letting her focus shift from the injured animal. Boy-crazy Callie struck again. She firmly turned her attention back to the matter at hand.
"I think the animal shelter is still open and they are great with injured animals, we can take him there once Aiden gets him free. But it's on main street." Storybrooke was a sleepy town but it wasn't quite late enough for the streets to be empty. There was no way that Charlie would be able to just walk to the shelter without being seen. "I may have just met your aunts, but I'm pretty sure they would kill both of us if they found out that you were walking through town. We'd have to figure out a discreet way to get there."

Charlotte watched Calli speak and nodded. "You're right," Charlotte said with a frown. "I can't take the rabbit to the shelter and unless someone working there knows sign language..." Charlotte trailed off, trying to come up with a solution. Calli could always write down what was wrong but if the veterinarian had more questions, it could turn into quite a hassle and Charlotte didn't want to impose on her new friend.

"Here is what we will do.." Aiden said while taking his coat off placing it on the rabbit. "Charlie you are going to hold the rabbit while I disengage the trap, I will then take the rabbit to the shelter, that way we don't need to worry about the sign language aspect, no offense Calliope. This will also allow you, Charlie, to maintain your cover for an extended period of time!" Aiden bent down and place his hands on either side of the trap "Ok Charlie, use my coat to hold the rabbit, once I push these down I'll need you to hold on tight and lift the rabbit from the trap." Aiden instructs Charlie while giving her a trusting look signalling everything will be fine.

Charlotte chuckled as his choice of words conjured up an image of herself in a trench coat and hat, lurking in a dark alleyway as she spied on an enemy.
"Ok Charlie, use my coat to hold the rabbit, once I push these down I'll need you to hold on tight and lift the rabbit from the trap."
Charlie gave a confident nod and as placed her hands over the coat on either side of the rabbit, holding as gently as possible. The rabbit squeaked and began to struggle in protest. "Shh, it's okay, little one," she said soothingly. Once the rabbit stilled, Charlie looked at Aiden. "Okay, ready."

Aiden watched Charlie as she gave him the signal that she was ready to do this and Aiden took a deep breath in before slowly exhaling and thinking about the path that lied before him. How he was to trick Charlie who was as far as he could tell a completely nice person and didn't deserve to be used as a pawn in Mr. Golds game, yet he wasn't... or couldn't do a thing to stop him. When the exhaling stopped Aiden snapped out of it and declared it was time by saying "Now!" before pushing the sides of the trap down allowing for the rabbit to be freed.

The rabbit squeaked in pain as the jaws of the trap were removed. Charlotte quickly picked up the rabbit and gently cradled it. "Shh, little one. You're okay now. You're free," she whispered. Charlie carefully rearranged the coat to examine the damage in the hope that it had appeared worse than it actually was. She frowned. "He'll definitely need to be taken to the shelter."
Charlie carefully rearranged the coat in a way that left the rabbit's head free but kept it's feet wrapped to keep it from trying to kick it's way out. As she rearranged, she thought of her dilemma. The rabbit needed help but she couldn't stroll into town and into the shelter. Calli wouldn't be able to explain what had happened to the rabbit without going through the hassle of writing it all down along with answers to any questions the vets may have. Her aunts would not be home for hours and she would rather not have to lie to them when they asked to hear the details. That left Aiden.
The rabbit no longer squeaked or fussed but not only because she'd calmed it. It's eyes were barely open and it's breathing seemed to have slowed. She gently petted the rabbit, running her thumb up it's forehead and then looked up at Aiden with pleading eyes. "I know you've already done so much for me, and all in one day no less, but could I ask you for one more favor?"

As Aiden released the trap, Calliope's hands flew to cover her eyes. She didn't know exactly what she was afraid of seeing- whether she thought the trap opening might have some gory consequence or if it was just the idea of just standing by and watching such a defenseless creature in pain. Maybe a mixture of both. Either way, she hated the feeling of helplessness she had. It wasn't often that she allowed self-pity to sneak into her thoughts. The hand that she had been dealt sucked, yes, but she always took it in stride with creative ways to live her life just like everyone else in Storybrooke. Yet, today it had seemed like such a roadblock in her entire employment search. Now, she couldn't even lend a hand in taking the small rabbit to the shelter. Was this really how the rest of her life would be? In a town where no one would bother learning sign language just so they could understand one lonely girl. Except for Charlie.
That was enough feeling sorry for herself for one day. Meeting Charlie was a blessing- a sign that things could change. Everything would be fine. Apparently, the rabbit thought so too as he calmed under Charlie's touch.
"I know you've already done so much for me, and all in one day no less, but could I ask you for one more favor?"
Calliope also turned her sights over to Aiden- the only one of them who would be able to easily bring the rabbit to the shelter. He had already helped them this far. She had a feeling that he wouldn't turn them down now.

The next day... Charlotte had awoken bright and early, ready for another day. As she walked to the bakery and passed the spot where she'd found the rabbit, the memories of last night ran through her head. Thankfully, Aidan had agreed to take the rabbit to the animal shelter. When he'd saved her from being hit by the car earlier that day, she'd been thankful. It wasn't until she saw the way he carefully held the injured rabbit as he'd agreed to take it to the shelter that she'd thought of him as her knight in shining armor and had felt something more. It was that funny saying she'd read in books. Her heart had melted. They'd said their goodbyes and Calli had playfully teased and questioned her. The memory had her grinning and blushing once again and she couldn't hold back the song that came bubbling up.

Henry dashed down from the street into the tree line. It was the one place he could think of, closer to town than his castle, where he could hide from his mom until he knew she would be safely at the office. And after the close call he had with her earlier that morning, he knew that she would be in full Evil Queen mode. Well, without the magic and killing people part. He hoped anyway. But despite it, Henry's face was filled with a huge grin because of Operation Cobra's first success. The clock was moving again and he knew that it had to be because of Emma. Now all he had to do was get her to believe it. Which was why Henry was hiding in the woods instead of walking to his bus. He just had to see Emma before school. Once the coast was clear, he'd hightail it to Granny's- he was sure that she'd be there.
The sound of singing caught his attention- it wasn't one of those sounds you usually heard in the woods- and he found himself following it just a bit farther into the forest.
"Hi!" he exclaimed when he found the source of the voice, not paying heed that he might startled her. He never saw this girl before and was already trying to place her from his book.

Her early morning walks when most of the town was still asleep was the only time she allowed herself to let her guard down in order to immerse herself in the beauty and tranquility of the forest. As far back as she could remember, she'd never run into anybody at this time and so she was surprised by his sudden appearance and exclamation directed at her.
Startled, Charlotte lost her grip on the basket she'd been lightly swinging to the rhythm of the song. She was immediately calmed when she looked at the sweet, beaming face of the boy. His energy and friendly enthusiasm was contagious and she found herself beaming back. "Oh, hello," she said as she knelt down and righted the basket before making excuses for her jumpy behavior. "I didn't expect anyone else to be in the forest at this early hour." Charlotte began picking up the lemons and returning them to the basket.

"Sorry." Henry gave a sheepish grin as he watched her pick up the fallen basket. "I didn't mean to scare you. I just heard you singing. You have a nice voice."
He looked at her curiously. He didn't recognize her from his book but that didn't mean anything. Most of Storybrooke's residents looked different enough in their Enchanted Forest clothes that it made it harder to guess who was was by just looking at the pictures.
"My name is Henry." he offered. Maybe her name would give him a clue to who she was.

"Sorry." "I didn't mean to scare you. I just heard you singing. You have a nice voice."
She smiled up at him. "Why thank you, young man and really, there's nothing for you to be sorry about." Returning the last lemon to the basket, she stood back up and adjusted the basket on her arm. "See, no harm done," she reassured.
"My name is Henry."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Henry. I'm Charlotte though you may call me Charlie if you'd like. What brings you into the woods at this early hour?" She'd found herself at ease as it was hard to imagine children as a danger but then it suddenly occurred to her that he might not be alone. Tensing slightly as her eyes swept their surroundings, she managed to calmly add, "Is someone with you?"

"What brings you into the woods at this early hour? Is someone with you?"
"No, it's just me. I'm...uh...collecting some stuff for school." Henry felt bad for lying since Charlie seemed nice but the less she knew about his real reason for being in the woods, the less likely it was that his mom would find out. That would be bad. Though he tried, he could barely hide his disappointment that her name gave no clues as to who she was in The Enchanted Forest. He'd have to find out more.
"Why are you out here?" he asked. Then he added with a smile, "Other than singing, that is.

"I live out here," she said before realizing it. He was a sweet and innocent child, the first she could remember meeting, that she'd forgotten about keeping her guard up. "Oh, but it's a secret. Only a very few people know. You could keep that secret for me, couldn't you Henry?" she asked, her voice portraying the importance of her request.

"A secret?" Henry's eyes lit up. Now that was something he could work with. A girl secretly living in the woods- it was almost like it was a story straight from his book. It sounded familiar too... If that didn't help him discover her fairy tale identity, he didn't know what would.
He smiled warmly at the the girl, "Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. I'm good at secret keeping." And if she didn't know many people, it would help keep his own secret from his mom. Henry's face took on a thoughtful look, "It must get lonely out here by yourself."

"Oh, I'm not by myself," she reassured. "I live with my three aunts." But still, he was partially correct. She had been lonely without anyone her own age or non-guardian around her..
"We just opened the bakery in town. I do the baking there," she said proudly. "Speaking of, I'm running late. Would you like to accompany me? Unless you have some place you need to be?" She didn't want him to feel she was dismissing him or, on the other hand, make him feel he had to. Still, it would be nice to talk with someone who could give her more insight into the town and the people.

Three aunts...secretly living in the woods... Suddenly Henry thought he knew just who he was dealing with. And she did look like the picture in the book.
"We just opened the bakery in town. I do the baking there," "Speaking of, I'm running late. Would you like to accompany me? Unless you have some place you need to be?"
Henry glanced down at his watch. It should be safe. He had spent enough time hiding out, his mom was certain to be in the office already. And it would be good to learn a little more about Charlie to see if his theory was right. "Sure, the bakery is on my way anyway," he paused and sent her a sidelong look as they began walking towards the town. "I'm heading to the diner. Have you ever been there?"

"Sure, the bakery is on my way anyway," "I'm heading to the diner. Have you ever been there?"
"Once, though only briefly. My friend Ruby works there," she said, smiling at the fact that she was now able to refer to someone as a friend. As they broke through the treeline and the back of the bakery was in view, she developed a slight skip in her step. Friends. My very own bakery.. It was impossible for her to not be beaming.
Charlie dug the key out of her pocket. "Since you're going to the bakery, if you have a little time to spare, I have a couple pies for Ruby. They only need to be rewarmed and I could fix you a hot chocolate and pastry of your choice while you wait."

"Once, though only briefly. My friend Ruby works there,"
That sealed the deal for Henry. Sure, it could have just been a coincidence that one of the few people who knew about Charlie in Storybrooke just so happened to be one of the few people who had known about her in The Enchanted Forest. But Henry wasn't the sort to believe in those close coincidences. Charlie was Briar Rose.
"Since you're going to the bakery, if you have a little time to spare, I have a couple pies for Ruby. They only need to be rewarmed and I could fix you a hot chocolate and pastry of your choice while you wait."
Henry's ears perked up at the sound of hot chocolate and he happily nodded. His mom didn't often let him eat sweets or baked goods so this was definitely a treat. "Do you have any cinnamon? I like to put it in my hot chocolate."

The clock, which has been stuck at 8:15 for as long as anyone can remember, began to move once again promptly at 8:15 p.m.
Several hours pass. It is now the morning after the clock has started.
A few may have noticed the clock moving last night and those close enough may have realized when it chimed the 9 p.m. hour. Others may have learned by word of mouth or not until they next arrived in town.

A twig snapped underfoot as Aiden walked through the woods to meet Charlie as per her instructions. Rays from the early morning sun shined down through where it had won the fight against the thick canopy of leaves much like Charlie's light was shining through Aiden's own doom and gloom. The sweet scents of the woods filled the air as Aiden took his place leaning against a tree his arms crossed across his chest while one leg crossed over the over his head turned while his focus was drawn nonchalantly on nothing in particular, just gazing. His thoughts drifted over the many references to fairy tales that had been popping up lately, Aiden immediately got caught up in the message last night.
'Sleeping Beauty. Princess Aurora. A Princess. Or as she went by Briar Rose. Charlie Briar. Was that the connection the message was implying?' Aiden's thoughts flashed as fast as his synapses sparked. 'She is very Princess like.' The sides of Aiden's mouth curled up at the thought of her. 'She would be some lucky Kings Queen and I'm not even good enough to be her Lancelot. I have no white horse or gleaming armor. Maybe all fairy tales are lies as she still seems to want to come along for the ride. Maybe there is hope for a different kind of Knight.'

***Charlie enters from Woods - Charlie and Her Aunts' Cabin***
Feeling giddy despite the incident last night, Charlie had a little dance in her step to accompany the song she hummed. The song that had popped into her mind this morning was "Once Upon a Dream". She was in too high of spirits to ponder if it was the events of last night or Henry's proclamation of who she supposedly was that had brought that particular song to mind.
She did her usual morning routine, pausing at the burrow just inside the trees. She knelt down, pulling her satchel forward as she retrieved a carrot. A little pink nose emerged, sniffing the air. Charlie smiled. "Good morning," she said softly. They were used to her, just a local being living within their forest and frequenting the same areas but were skittish, no doubt catching the scent of the stranger lingering nearby. Not wanting to take more of Aiden's time than necessary, she placed the carrot close to the burrow and chuckled as the little ball of grey fluff popped out to drag the carrot into it's home.
She stood and couldn't help the smile that lit up her face when her eyes fell on Aiden leaning against a tree across the way.
She made a show of looking around. "My Good Knight, I do not see your noble steed." She gave a dramatic sigh and bit her bottom lip in an attempt to hold back a smile but was failing miserably. "I suppose we must make the journey on foot." Charlie held out her hand for his.
