Rules
Instructions:
1. All participants in the group are encouraged to add to the Chain Story at least once a month. If you will be unable to write for more than a month’s time, please inform in the Official Attendance Thread of your title letting us know approximately when you will be participating again. This will weed out any lurkers or fans who only joined as writers so they would be able to get the inside scoop to the stories.
2. Your addition to the Chain Story can be anywhere from one paragraph to three pages. To determine the length, use a word document with Times New Roman Font at size 10 font with 1 inch margins all around. The forum may have a limit to the amount of characters in a post, so there might be a chance you'll have to break your addition into two posts.
3. Make sure you stay current with the posts in the Writers Area of your Chain Group. The Chain Group will sometimes discuss important plot points that need to be decided upon by everyone so that we don’t have contradictions or confusions to the stories. You will need to refer to the Official Schedule in your group that will show what times writers have reserved and what times are open for you to reserve. (Reserved writing times avoid two people writing around the same time for the same part of the story.) New additions to the story are posted directly into the story's thread. Please be sure to read everyone’s entries so that your entries will continue where they left off and not contradict anything they may have written. This can avoid confrontations and unnecessary drama among writers.
4. You may reserve up to 5 consecutive hours of writing time for up to a week in advance or even reserve time right when you log in if that time has not already been spoken for. To reserve a free block of writing time, reply to the Official Writing Schedule with the exact day and hours you would like to have saved for you. Please specify your time zone as we have writers from all over the world. You may reserve up to 2 writing times at a time. If a writer finishes and posts their contribution before their reserved time is up and you feel there's enough time for you to write an entry before then next reserved block, please reply to the Official Writing Schedule letting everyone know you are reserving from now to the time of the next reserved block.
5. If you will be unable to add to the story during a time that you have reserved, please notify us in the Official Schedule thread as soon as possible. Remember, this is supposed to be stress-free and all for fun, so don’t feel pressured or feel bad if you have to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.
6. At least two other people have to add to the story before you may add again. If your title only has three writers, exceptions may be made depending on the availability of the other writers.
7. Put your writing name (if different than forum user name) and fanfiction.net user name (optional) in parenthesis right above your entry before posting it. This will be displayed on the MFC website and fanfiction.net for fans to know who gets the credit. You may also include author's notes or thanks for previous reviews.
Example of text above your addition: Hollywood Heidi (ff.net name: JasmineHR)
8. It is recommended that you use Microsoft Word or a similar program when writing your addition. Set the font to Times New Roman, size 10 Font, with 1 inch margins all around. Keep it single spaced with a double space between paragraphs. Do not indent paragraphs as indentations may not show up properly in posts. When you have finished writing your entry, please do a spell check and read it over for any errors you may have made. This will ensure a more timely posting of your addition to the website and fanfiction.net, as the title moderator will check over all entries for errors that may have been overlooked. After spell checking and proofreading, copy your entry, paste it to a new response of the current Fanfic Chain story thread, and hit Post Reply. Please note that the upgrades made by Proboards should now copy formatting of italics, bold, and alignment but you may want to check over the formatting as it can sometimes be a bit buggy. You may need to add the formatting on your forum post.
9. Do not be mean or critical of anybody’s writing. If a writer is open to receiving advice, be sure your advice is constructive. If you have any complaints and you really need to vent them, please Private Message the moderator of the title or myself on the forum. Remember that not everyone may have the same experience or level of writing as you. Think happy and remember everyone is here because they enjoy writing!
10. Your addition will be posted on the MFC site and on fanfiction.net under the profile of Movie Fanfic Chains, with proper credit given to each writer. Be sure to review the additions of your fellow writers of your group!
Notifications:
1. Please be aware that the Chain Stories can range anywhere from rated G to rated R. The rating of a Chain Story cannot be determined until it is nearly completed due to the fact that there will be different types of writers and there’s no real way of know where the story may go but we encourage the rating to match the movie or TV show the Fanfic Chain is based on. If you are under the age of 18, please be sure that you feel you are mature enough to participate in stories based on titles with an R rating and that you have the approval of your parents.
2. Anyone with an attitude problem or anyone who puts down their fellow group members may be given a warning or may be dropped from the group; depending on the offense. Remember, this is meant to be a fun environment for all and there will be a range of talents. Each person’s mind is unique, which is what makes these Chain Stories so great!
3. By joining a group, you understand that your work will be posted with the fanfic chain on the sites mentioned above and that you cannot request to have your contributions removed at any time for any reason as removal of any portions of the fanfic chain destroys the entire fanfic. You may, however, request to have your name removed from above your entries. You may also request to fix or modify your previous contributions, preferably only if you just submitted it, as long as the modifications do not require a rewrite of contributions following it.
4. In order to participate, you must accept and agree to all the above terms and rules.
