West Georgia Correctional Facility -- Main Gate & FieldThis level includes the greatest defense which is the prison's dual chain link fences tall and strong, surrounding the entirety of the facility. Flanked by large guard towers one passes through two large gates from the world beyond. An open field sprawls ahead that gently slopes up to the secondary gate dividing it from the main prison yard.

The floor of the woods was painted with a blanket of orange, red and golden as the trees were slowly but surely shedding their leaves, creeping in to a somber sleep for the winter to come. The morning sun was already high up in the sky, already melting the traces of frost away from the trunks of the trees and the patches of grass. Sounds like a peaceful autumn setting in sleepy West Georgia. Still, the leaves weren't the only thing that grazed the earth of the vast forest. Hordes of walkers moved in and out of the woods everyday and every night, plaguing the area with their decaying bodies and mindless, infectious cannibal ways. The heedless beings of the small group that made their way under the trees dragged their feet through the fallen leaves on the ground of the woods as they aimlessly wandered, looking for any sight of a morsel. Without even having a slight feeling as to what was about to hit them, a light rain of arrows fell upon the walkers from one of the trees nearby. As the arrows struck their heads one by one, they dropped to the ground like dead flies. The few remaining walkers of the tiny horde gazed up slowly to see a girl standing on one of the thick branches of a tree near them. Their hungry eyes followed her movements as she dropped down from the tree onto the ground in front of them. Moving their greedy hands out in front of them they sluggishly made their way towards her. Before they could even get close to grab her, she drew her arrows back in her bow and one by one she shot the few remaining walkers in the heads, sending them to the floor. The air had become thickly quiet around her as she looked down at the dead walkers. "Such a waste," Ingrid angrily yet sorrowfully muttered to herself as she weaved around the bodies. She had hated what the world around her had become, nothing but a bloodbath apocalypse. The part that made her the most angry was that there was nothing that she could do but to kill, survive and carry on. That's what life had come to these days, especially after being kidnapped and suddenly forced to make it alive on your own. She tracked and crept discreetly through the woods, being sure not to disturb any other hordes that could possibly be nearby. Ingrid's eyes gazed down at the ground as she moved along, noticing some peculiar footprints. Slinging her bow over her shoulder, she bent down to the ground to analyze the prints in the ground. Definitely not shoe prints created by walkers, she thought. Ingrid had a feeling that she wasn't the only person in the woods anymore. Were they out looking for her? What would even be the point. They should just leave her be, unless they were afraid of her somehow getting back to him and letting him in on where they all now lived. Ingrid knew that if she could get ahold of him somehow, he would make them pay for what they've done. Before she could think of anything else, Ingrid heard groans and moans of the brainless beasts coming from behind her. She briskly peered over her shoulder, and there they were, making their way over to her. Ingrid shot as many as she possibly could before she had to begin to make a break for it. Weaving through the trees and bushes she ran as fast as she possibly could, however the walkers seemed to keep spawning from nowhere. Ingrid finally escaped the woods, only to find herself face to face with a fence that travelled as far as she could see. Within all of the fences and gates, she could see in the distance there was a big building that appeared to be a prison. Did Ingrid finally find somewhere where she could seek some solitude for the time being? She could only hope as she started to climb the fence. The walkers that had been chasing her ran right into the fence, their hands reached up at her as she climbed higher. There was a spot at the top of the fence where the barbed wire had worn off and had broken off. One leg on each side of the top of the fence, she sat up there shooting arrows at the walkers below. No matter how many she killed, they still kept coming out of nowhere. Ingrid wondered how long she would last up there. Sure when she ran out of arrows, she did have a pistol and knife strapped to her side for the emergency situations but she definitely knew that she would not be able to kill them all. Not on her own.

They have been travelling around for six or even seven months, who knew anyway, without finding a place which could become something like a new home for at least some weeks. Slowly but surely they went out of time. Lori soon would born the baby... their baby. To protect them, so as everyone else of the group, was everything in his mind, since they had lost the Greene Farm. Since he has killed his best friend. Since he had to. Every moment after, he knew it has been a necessity; that Shane has been the one who got him to do it. But since then he had the feeling that everyone saw him with different eyes, above all Lori. After some time they at least seemed to have accepted his doing. To have understood that everything he did was for the safety of the group. But something between Lori and him has changed up to today. Whenever this thought came to his mind though, he made use of his self-taught method to displace it with the need of being a good leader and father as his top priority.
As it was now, after they had to leave another house because it wasn't safe. They couldn't go on like that. They had to find something more...
"Daryl.", Rick suddenly tried to get his companion's attention on their way to hunt something, while the others remained at the cars. When Daryl turned around to him, there was no need for bandying any word. The huge building with that high fence surrounding it to their right was saying everything. There it was. That something more. Only some clean-up works, regarding the wieldable amount of walkers on the field, and this could become a gold mine. "Let's go back and bring in the others."

The hunt went as expected. With the herds increasing in the area most of the wildlife had moved on... Or worse. It was getting to the point that hefting his crossbow was becoming a burden. A handful or two of some berries did little but Daryl would not take them for granted. He shared his meager find with Rick and they had continued on. It was then that they had seen it. Those wonderful fences. All that space. It was not vacant though. It would be a challenge.
As they moved back through the forest towards the road where they had left the group Daryl was starting to notice some changes. A pack of walkers on the ground. And those were not his bolts sticking from their skulls. The tracker brought it to Rick's attention but they did not delay long. It was possible he may have missed it on the way in. And the tracks heading from the scene were headed in the opposite direction. Just one pair. Unlikely to be trouble for them when they returned with the others, especially since he would be paying special attention now.
A few small groups, quietly dispatched saw the two men linking up with their companions and returning to the edge of the trees where they had made their discovery. Things had changed since the farm, they had a way with the walkers now that gave them much better odds. As long as they kept their heads. And right now to keep that edge they needed food, rest, and a place to make sure they could keep those two consistant.
Nobody talked much, it had been that way for a while. Nothing to talk about. Daryl didn't think much about it as everyone stared on at the promise of the prison in silence. It was not quiet though. The mans eyes wandered over the fences from the main gate to the edge where it bent out of sight. He was making sure it was secure but it was more than that. "Rick." He said no more but simply pointed, drawing the groups attention to what he saw. There was a woman, alone. She straddled the fence on the outer perimeter. There was a gap in the wire and her attention was on her growing crowd of admirers at the base. There were a few walkers in between the outer layers of fence as well, they had seen her too. She was about to have a real problem, especially if she ran out of arrows in that bow of hers.

With each swift draw she made with her bow, she sent arrows zipping into the air, their pointed tips plunging into the rotting scalps of the undead. The fence started to slightly sway as more walkers gathered, their decaying bodies pushing up against the fence left and right. Ingrid attempted to keep herself in a collective state but with every arrow that she sent flying, her heart beat became more rapid as the numbers of the arrows she possessed dwindled and the numbers of the walkers grabbing at her grew.
Not knowing exactly about this place where she had ended up in, she didn't linger on a hope of anyone else being around to come to her aid as the land near and far that she had scavenged about seemed incredibly vacant. She hadn't seen another live human in what seemed like ages. Ingrid was trying not to surrender to the walkers, however her chances of escaping the situation on her own seemed to become smaller. She wasn't prepared to give up just yet though. Letting go of the last few arrows, Ingrid was preparing herself to whip out her pistol. This wasn't the way she wanted to go out of the world. Not like this.

"Rick."
Rick followed his companion's eyes. He had already seen the herd on the outer perimeter of the fence, but only now he noticed there was a human as well, seemingly a loner woman. That was at least how it looked now. But nowadays you never could be sure it wasn't some kind of a trick to get a groups provisions or their car or something.
Rick bandied looks with Daryl, who seemed to wait for a leader's decision. Darn it! This could be a trap, but there also was a fifty percent chance that this really was a woman needing help. And weren't fifty percent enough to take the risk, if it could safe a human's life?
The world we know is gone. But keeping our humanity? That's a choice., the words of a hoping man suddenly echoed in his mind.
To make a choice however didn't mean to rush in. Rick answered Daryl's waiting look with a nod, before he turned to Lori and Carl. "I want you two to stay in the car whatever happens." He didn't want to know Lori and the unborn baby in danger. "You've to protect them for me, Carl, can you do that?" Just as Carl wanted to answer back, that he would be more useful at the front, Rick turned back to Daryl and the rest of the group, without leaving his son room for backtalk anyway. "We've to divert their attention and that has to happen really quick." Rick wasn't sure if this choice was in everyone's interest, nor was he really sure if it was in his own; but it was in someone's they had to leave behind at the Greene farm. He somehow felt to owe Dale this choice.

The last arrow was sent gliding through the air, swiftly puncturing a hole in the face of a nearby walker. The skin around Ingrid's body started to become alarmingly warm with panic as she slung her bow across her shoulder and out of the way.
"Crap," She muttered in a panic as she quickly grabbed her pistol from her belt. Since the apocalypse struck their little world and disrupted all of life, Ingrid's years of lessons and hunting trips really paid off and allowed her to be excessively skilled at defending herself. She unfortunately could not say the same for her pistol, as she hadn't had to use it at all up until now. Today would be the first day that the walkers would win against her bow, and her pistol would be introduced. Her thighs gripped tightly to the sides of the fence as she held onto the pistol with both hands "Well, here goes everything," She said, and with a loud bang she let bullets fly.

The crack of the gunshot pierced the air, echoing through the field. That would be sure to alert every walker in the area of their presence. They would have to be smart about this. Their ammunition was dwindling, they would run out before they'd even made a dent. Running in would be suicide.
Maggie's eyes scanned the fence, taking in the prison's inner walkway. Other than the small group gathered to the woman's right, it seemed secure. Quickly a plan formed. She reached into the army green duffle bag in her hand, removing a set of wire cutters they had picked up in their travels.
"Rick." She handed them towards their defunct leader, nodding her head towards the walkway. "We can take it and lure the rest of the walkers outside the fence in the other direction."

The older man watched the looks on the faces of his family. And that was not just Maggie and Beth but everyone. It was the only thing he could call the people he fought beside. They shared the risks and hardships, gave support and divided the rewards. He was grateful, for this family and for Rick. He was not the same man he was so many months ago beside the dying fire. He had taken control then. Someone had to. But he had earned their respect all over again. They were alive. And they all trusted him now. Whatever he decided.
Hershel noticed the eager looks on most faces. Grim but ready. Someone needed aid. Equal possibility of a friend or foe. But only one way to find out. Ricks word would send them into action. Daryl inched forward, a bolt loaded in his weapon. No one could know if they would be able to stay here but one step at a time.

"Rick."
Grown stiff Beth watched the shape of a woman in the distance. She has seen it already before Daryl made everyone pay attention to it. The woman was encircled by more than a dozen of walkers, no chance to beat them all on her own. Only some moments later she heard Rick giving instructions, but was she too far away in thoughts to really understand his words.
"Somebody has to do something...", Beth lastly whispered to her father, grabbing his hand unknowingly.
"Rick.", she suddenly heard her sister raise up a word. "We can take it and lure the rest of the walkers outside the fence in the other direction." Beth looked down at the wire cutters Maggie was handing out to Rick. Suddenly the grip on her father's hand tailed off. Maggie was so strong and prudent. Beth really should be more like that. It was on time to acquire adulthood.
"I'm going to help.", she said loud and clear, giving her sister a nod, containing the unspoken words Don't worry, I know what I'm doing.

Just as Rick was thinking about a safe way to get into the prison, Maggie called out to him.
"Rick." Rick received the wire cutters and followed her nod in the walkway's direction. That was it. The plan they needed. "We can take it and lure the rest of the walkers outside the fence in the other direction."
"That could work.", he replied with a serious look on his face. He was aware of the danger he put everyone in and if anything went wrong he would blame himself for the rest of his life. But for now there was no time for being emotional. They had to move to action. And they had to do it really quick.
"I'm going to help."
Rick didn't react to Beth' objection, as it was not his role to decide about that. He had made a decision as for his own son and his pregnant wife and the looks Carl was sending to him out from the car were stressful enough. Instead Rick turned to Daryl. "Do you think you can make it to a higher position to give us support from above? We shouldn't take the risk of using our guns, even though the woman up there probably has drawn every walker out of their woodwork within 20 miles."

One by one, Ingrid shot any walker that tried to get close enough to rip her legs to shreds. Her thighs were starting to get tired from gripping onto the sides of the broken fence. Holding on for dear life, she swiftly checked her pistol to see how many more rounds she had before her time was up. "Damn it," she spoke in a panicked tone, "Down half the rounds already. Only six more left." Her insides filled with desperation as she began to be conservative with the last few bullets she possessed in the pistol. Ingrid was so busy defending and growing worrisome, that she did not notice the group of people in the far distance running to her aid.

"Do you think you can make it to a higher position to give us support from above? We shouldn't take the risk of using our guns, even though the woman up there probably has drawn every walker out of their woodwork within 20 miles."
Daryl kept pace with Rick but took a moment to respond to his question. There where towers on either side of the main gate. It would give him a good view of the yard but he would be behind the others as they progressed to the strangers aid. He didn't want to risk injuring his friends. And to have a more accurate shot would mean to use of the firearms.
Shaking his head to save him the lengthy dialogue he simply nodded to Rick's AK-47. "With that maybe." They reached the fence and with a few quick snips the group was through. Daryl ran the rope through the coils and attached the carabiners to close the hole behind them. Inside the perimeter there was less walkers. And it was tight, just the way they liked it. It suited their tactics now. Controlling the flow. He would leave it up to Rick if he wanted Daryl to break away to distract the walkers. But if they could clear the woman's decent inside the wall then she would have an out. They didn't need to worry about the others in the field outside for now.

Maggie didn't respond to Beth as the group took action climbing through the hole Rick cut into the fence. But as Daryl secured their entrance, she pulled a knife from the bag and handed it to her. "Cover us. Only use it if it's necessary." She had to admit that Beth had proven herself a few times and Maggie found herself worrying over the younger girl significantly less than she had before. But there was no reason why Beth would have to be on the front line of this fight. The walkers inside the fence had already begun to take notice of them and Maggie pulled her own knife from her belt. She spared a precious second to send a smile at her sister, knowing that her previous response was probably not the one the girl had been looking for. "Once we've cleared the walkway, we're going to need your help to draw away the ones outside the fence."
Without waiting for a reply, Maggie moved up beside Glenn and readied the knife in her hand.

Glenn smiled when Maggie came up next to him, he was worried about her and would always worry. "Stay close," Glenn leaned in and kissed her cheek, pulling out his own knife. He was ready to take out as many walkers as he could and not die in the process.

With her worst fears coming to life, Ingrid let her last bullet go as dozens of walkers still swarmed underneath her. She had a small knife for sure, but there was no way in hell that it would take care of enough walkers for her to escape. She gave the fight her all, however her body was rapidly becoming fatigued and dehydrated. Ingrid felt the muscles in her body starting to give away as she struggled to stay put on the fence. She had lost track of how long she had been up there for, and wasn't so sure of how much longer she'd be able to hold on.

Rick felt that Daryl wasn't exactly satisfied with his plan, but instead of arguing it, Rick handed him his AK-47 and gave him a specifying nod. They were enough people for melee to subdue the walkers on their way to the woman's stand, but he wanted to make sure there was someone taking care of her staying alive until they reached her. And if Rick really could count on someone one hundred percent, it was Daryl.
Without any further instruction or remark Rick made a dash by taking point. Blood splashes were covering his face, as his knife pierced throuh the first walker head.
Another challenge they had to go through to stay human. And maybe another chance for a new place to call home.

"Cover us. Only use it if it's necessary."
Beth looked down at the knife her sister has handed to her, before her eyes met again with Maggie. Instead of an answer she gave her a confident nod. This was okay for the beginning, she thought. In fact Beth was a bit relieved about this kind of job, even though she wanted to be an important part in this. But then, she knew Maggie wouldn't have instructed her with this, if it was less important than everyone else's job. She felt like Maggie really was counting on her and above all was giving her the credit to cover them.
"Once we've cleared the walkway, we're going to need your help to draw away the ones outside the fence."
Beth looked after her sister moving up beside the others, while she was readying the knife in her sweaty hand. "Got that.", she replied, even though they all were already out of earshot.

All it took to spur Maggie into action was Rick's motion. She knew that Glenn and T-Dog would be right beside them. This is what they'd done all winter out on the road. They had become a team. And they were going to save this woman.
She grabbed the nearest walker's shoulder and used the momentum to plunge her knife through its eye socket, slanting the blade up into its decaying brain matter. It stilled immediately. The knife was swiftly removed as the body collapsed onto itself. Maggie didn't stop to look. She was too busy moving to the next walking corpse, repeating her attack until there was nothing left to fight.

Daryl took the rifle with a nod and pulled open the door to the nearest tower. Time was short as the woman's shots had ceased and she was being jostled by the growing crowd from outside the fence. If they knocked her loose either the fall or the walkers would kill her. He slung his crossbow and shouldered the firearm. It was dark inside but he couldn't smell anything particularly pungent. Anyone who had made it this far during the prisons last moments would not have lingered here. Taking the steps two at a time he breached the door at the top and proceeded onto the balcony.
He braced his elbows against the top of the hand rail and took his time lining up the shot. Letting out a quick breath Daryl pulled the trigger, again and again. The bullets tore through the walkers packed around the fence. Their numbers started to dwindle. He couldn't keep this up for long as their ammo was not an abundant commodity. But for now those who didn't fall to his attack started to amble away in his general direction. Every little bit counted. Rick's group could handle the ones on the inside.

Hershel saw Maggie join Glenn in the formation and his emotions swirled between anxiety and pride. He knew they would take care of each other. The older man shifted his attention to Beth as she readied the knife her sister had given her. He opened his mouth but closed it again. He liked to try and motivate with his words but right now they did not come to him. Not because he was at a loss but because right now they just needed to know each other was alert and ready to step in if needed.
Both Beth and himself had filled gaps as they saw the opportunities in the past if someone needed to catch their breath but until then they knew what to do. As the gunshots rang out from the tower Hershel started hollering at the walkers, baiting them away from their intended target. It wouldn't put them in any unnecessary danger since there was no way the ones in the yard could get to them from their flanks. But it didn't stop the man from plunging his makeshift spear into their eye sockets if they did try and reach through the links.

Ingrid became startled by the sudden sound of bullets hitting rotting walker flesh, bullets that were not her own. She had been out for some time. But who? She peered around her to see if she could spot someone, anyone who had seemed to have come to her aide. Her instinct had signaled within her that the bullets had been flying from one of the watch towers and as she squinted through her exhausted eyes, she saw a man in one of the towers. Ingrid carried on and continued to stab as many walker scalps as possible with what little strength she had, with relief in knowing that help was nearby. She just hoped that whoever this man was helping her, that he could help her get out of the hoard before the hoard devoured her.

After some more fighting, exhaustion seeable rising up in everyone, they finally managed to get closer to the stumblingly woman. She was still covered with the hoard, struggling with her life. Rick didn't waste even the split of a second to check on Daryl above or the others behind him. He believed in them to stay alive. They had to. Because if they didn't, it would be attributable to his fault. Rick quickly shook off that upcoming thought. There was no time for compunction.
And almost as forseen that any kind of thoughts were misplaced right now, Rick noticed the sudden movement from one of the walkers right behind the woman, by that time only a couple of metres away from his position at the front. No time for thinking. So without considering the risk it could mean, he, with all the rest of his force, let his knife fly through the air. It was only one breath later, when it pierced right through the walker's head, forcing it down immediately.
"Are you okay?", Rick panted out a question to the stranger, as he couldn't see if his help had been too late or not. By now this mission was only about saving a life and no longer about taking over a potential new home. The hoard was too immense, much more than he had estimated it to be from afar. To keep up that illusion would mean suicide.
Rick didn't let his guard slight, while he was awaiting any reaction from the woman.

With every strike, Ingrid lunged her arms forwarded as far as the rest of her body strength would allow. She had cleared enough of them to take a brief moment to wipe her sweaty brow, or at least that`s what she thought. Hearing a sudden vast movement behind her, she jolted around to face what had been going on behind her. A walker, just inches away from her backside slid down to the ground. Ingrid`s eyes widened as she stared at the man who was in the process of saving her little life.
"Are you okay?"
Obviously she had known there was someone attempting to rescue her, but could she truly trust them? Taking the sight of this man in to realize that he was nothing yet more than a stranger, it took a few seconds for things to register before she gave a panicked and rapid nod of her head as she peered around at the next wave of walkers approaching them.

Once we've cleared the walkway, Beth heard her sister's echo in his head, staring at the walkway, still surrounded by walkers. She could barely see Maggie and the others. All she could do now was readying the knife in her sweaty hand. Only use it if it's necessary. If it's necessary. Oh c'mon, sister, what does that suppose to mean?? Shall she wait here until the herd has devoured them? No, she couldn't just wait here while the dead killed the rest of her family.
And with this last thought Beth began to move in the walkway's direction, trying to catch up with the group at the front. It didn't take long, till one walker crossed her path, reaching out to her through the fence. For a split of a second panic raised inside her. She had to face them several times before, but never had she been all on her own. The knife in her hand wiggled. No. No longer was she Beth, the girl others had to protect. She could do this. She could be brave.
The walker was dangerously close to her, when Beth has made a decision. No more running. She could be a fighter too. A protector.
Hollering at the dead in front of her, she took the last metres between the fence and herself, striking down several walkers out of the walkway's position.
Later Beth wouldn't remember how exactly she has managed to, but some moments later she stood alone, the knife in her hand. Soaked in blood. Just like herself. But instead of allowing the panic to raise in her again, she stood still, kind of like being in a trance-like condition.

Rick didn't see the woman's nod, as he was just struggling with two walkers at the same time. But he could hear her moving forward at the next wave of walkers approaching them. These came out of the direction they had been heading to. Even if they could make it through the fence and towards the building alive, there was no guarantee of no walkers inside the prison. Besides, he couldn't even say how much longer the fence was an obstacle for the herd anyway. And fighting all of them at the same time, would have meant suicide. Damn, he had to make a decision real quickly.
Rick ventered a look up at one of the towers, in which he saw the shape of Daryl, busy shooting bullets from above. He gave him a sign with his hands to indicate a retreat. There was no time for biding a reaction from his friend though, so instead he tried stretching down the nearby walkers to make the way back to the walkway free.
"Take my hand!", he raised a word to the stranger woman once more, serving her help to get off of it. Just when he managed to carefully pull her down, he heard the cracking noise of a bullet piercing into a walker's head not far away from him. Rick sent one thankful look to the tower above, before he turned his attention back to the woman to finally get her out of danger. And not only her, all of them.
With one hand sustaining her, Rick started running back into the direction they had come from, consistently searching for the others of his group to give them a sign too. It was not too hard to draw back, as this direction of the walkway was still almost clean. But knowing the other half of their group, among them his son and his wife, pregnant with his other unborn child, waiting in the car, didn't let him feel at ease to soon. After all, a prison was not exactly a place he wanted for his child to be born. If there was any other option, and he knew there was, that other option would have been his first choice. Maybe this time they would get the permission to enter.

"Take my hand!"
Ingrid grabbed onto the stranger's hand. The grip was stable enough for her to quickly throw her legs around the side of the fence that her guardian angel was on and stumbled down, attempting not to injure herself anymore in the process of their quick escape. Not caring which direction he lead her in, she held onto him tightly as he supported her whilst fighting off the dead. Ingrid was in awe of this stranger who seemed so driven, like nothing could get in his way. Her free hand still gripping her blade, Ingrid stabbed any walkers on her side that came anywhere near them as they darted forward, attempting to find any sort of safety.

Glenn had always been a runner, he was always distracting some kind of walker and clearing the way for the others. He was a lot stronger now, he needed to be because of Maggie. He watched her with such love, she was a strong woman but he feared for her and for himself. Grabbing hold of another walker, he pushed it against the fence and stabbed it right in the eye before letting it drop. He made sure that the blade went all the way through, not wanting to risk them surviving and biting his ankles.
Rick got a hold of the girl and that was the first step... could they keep this place, no. Glenn could see more and more walkers showing up, it was time to go. "We need to get out of here."

The walkers were closing in on them and she struggled with clearing out the walker population. She panicked and she started to pull herself back a bit earlier, once Rick got hold of the girl. She felt like a coward for abandoning them but she was afraid to stay any longer. She felt like she wasn't good enough, she decided the safest place for her would be the car with Lori and Carl. she had a knife to protect her but she was so unsure of herself, she was working on that but it would take time- she was still learning. She needed a skill, she couldn't just clean clothes and cook food while the people around her were dying.

Hershel saw the sign for their retreat. The woman was down off the fence in Rick's care as they fell back towards their exit. Beth pressed forward killing a few more walkers through the fence but it worried him that she seemed to be in a transe. Present but far away at the same time, as if she was someone else. He hoped it wasn't because of their current predicament.
The situation had been beyond them from the start. Not saving a life, that they had done, but taking this place for their own. It hadn't been spoken but they all must have been hoping for that. But it was not to be. Carol was already back to the cars with Lori and Carl so the fence was open. He called to Beth and then stepped out into the open taking a defensive position to keep any walkers from getting inside and blocking his friends. One... Two... Three Walkers went down as they drifted closer. It was going to be too much for him soon as the newer arrivals were coming in larger numbers.
T-Dog stepped out next and pinned a pair to the fence. Hershel stepped over to deliver the killing blow as the larger man held them still but suddenly he was falling. He heard a shout, though he couldn't be sure whose as he landed on the ground and the wind was knocked out of him. Something gripped his leg painfully and the older man rolled over with all his might. He faced a walker pulling itself up to him by grabbing his boot. He lashed out with his free limb trying to get his hands under himself for better leverage. But Hershel was not able to dislodge his attacker, his strikes with his other foot simply kept it from sinking its teeth into his calf. For now... Panic was starting to set in as that thought took root.
