***Etta, Viktor, Rumpel, and Jefferson arrive from LWC - Frankenstein's Castle - Outside***
Being the first to jump through the abyss created by the strange hat, she was the first to land. Etta found herself thrown out of the blackness face down onto the ground, the breath knocked out of her. She opened her eyes and had to blink at the bright color of the grass an inch from her nose. She turned her head to the sound of rushing water and slowly got up, staring at the scene before her. Everything was so bright. So amazingly vivid. She found herself squinting as her eyes had trouble adjusting to the brightness. It was like looking into a sun made up of a spectrum of colors.
Hearing the arrival of someone, she turned back to the shade of the trees and blinked as her eyes adjusted. Still bright but more bearable than the sunlit areas. Her eyes adjusted and she looked at Viktor in surprise. "Why are you here? What is he doing here," she said, turning to the Dark One as he arrived, noting that unlike herself and Viktor, the Dark One had landed gracefully on his feet. She angrily approached him until she was nearly toe to toe. "The price was to have been me alone. Already Gerhardt has paid the price of our agreement and now you've raised it again to include Viktor?" She crossed her arms and glared at the Dark One. "No. I will not have it."

Viktor
It all started with a portal like this and would it now end with one? Henrietta and Rumpel already passed that strange vortex that would transport them to the other land. From the corner of his eye he could realize their ally nodding in his direction as if he wanted to urge him to pass the portal. For a second he hold and thought about the situation. He was torn between his brother and his secret love. Whoever he chose, he had to abandon one of them and in both ways he had to leave his laboratories. He reminds his brothers last view the pain and the confusion but at the same time he thought about Henrietta being caged by those creepy litle guy. A strange voice roused him from his thoughts. He was the last one standing in front of an already closing vortex. Without thinking again about all the consequences he jumped through the strange thing.
Seconds later he stands in an extremly bright forest. As soon as he got back on his feed Henrietta already turned on him.
Why are you here? He felt a sharp pain in his chest as she turned to Rumpel The price was to have been me alone[...]and now you've raised it again to include Viktor?"
Viktor felt like loosing the ground under his feet just seconds after the arrival in this land but at the same time he felt some strange anger raising.
"Surprise, surprise. You really think I'm happy about abandoning my brother?" he stressed the words. "I've crossed the edges of our world just to have a chance to heal him. Yes, it wasn't sufficient but I can't imprison him until I found a cure for what happened to him. Again, when someone traited you and revealed your hideout" for a second he looked over to Rumpel as he was sure it was him who did. No one else could know she was hiding in the castle or did he do wrong by him? "I've ceased everything just to safe you from the stake but I didn't include Gerhardt in that plan. It was his own will to ensure your safety. So you see I'm not the one who is to blame. I'm already down but that doesn't count anyway. If my attendance is really such kind of a punishment to you i will remit it to you."
Without any further word he took some specs whith dark glasses out of his jacket. The brightness of the environment hurts his eyes and with them it was at least bearable. For a last time he looked at Henrietta before turning around, leaving this place. A little stone has been flunged and landed with a clapping noise in the nearby lake.

Etta turned in surprise at the anger coming from the opposite direction she'd expected it to come from. She listened in wordless confusion and as he turned and walked away, she opened her mouth then promptly closed it, at a complete loss. She'd assumed the Dark One had involved Gerhardt. She'd assumed the Dark One had conned Viktor into serving him as well and yet, Viktor was angry at her for trying to release him from the Dark One. It didn't make sense.
Etta lowered herself onto a fallen log and momentarily dropped her face into her hands as if trying to block out the world for a few short moments. She had enough on her mind with her uncertain future of servitude to this sinister being and she could understand Viktor's anger at being dragged into it but why was it aimed at her? Unless... was he not a pawn to the Dark One as well? She dropped her hands and looked at the Dark One, hoping for some clarity. "Is Viktor here of his own free will?"

Rumpelstiltskin just landed on his feet, as Henrietta already clamored at him. Not this again...
What is he doing here?""The price was to have been me alone. Already Gerhardt has paid the price of our agreement and now you've raised it again to include Viktor?""No. I will not have it.", she glared at him with crossed arms. Gosh, what a shrew...
Just as Rumpel wanted to launch into an answer, Viktor preempt him.
"Surprise, surprise. You really think I'm happy about abandoning my brother?""I've crossed the edges of our world just to have a chance to heal him. Yes, it wasn't sufficient but I can't imprison him until I found a cure for what happened to him. Again, when someone traited you and revealed your hideout" Rumpel noticed the sudden look in his direction. He answered with one, which said something like Come on, just go on calm down the shrew without noting me. As he did. Of course it was him, who revealed her hideout, but does she have to know? Of course not. "I've ceased everything just to safe you... Blah Blah... unimportant Blah."
Rumpelstiltskin watched the doctor taking out his dark glasses and turning around to leave. Very fine. He really was going to bore him already now. If he was in a pissy mood, he maybe wouldn't disturb their training, would he? Maybe his lips broadened too much, as Henrietta turned back to him.
"Is Viktor here of his own free will?"
Rumpel gave her an undefinable smile. "Do you see any chains, dearie?" God, the doctor even wasn't here on HIS free will... "I have something for you.", he went on, changing the subject. His hand went into his coat and took out specs with dark glasses, just like the one he once gave to Viktor. Of course the specs weren't in his coat the entire time, but rather appeared in his hand, while took it out of the pocket. "Makes the light more bearable.", he added, handing them out to her.

Well of course there weren't chains physically but that didn't make at least her fate any less chained to the Dark One. Viktor, on the other hand, seemed to be here of his own free will. She would speak to Viktor about tht later, after she found out exactly what her future entailed.
"I have something for you.", "Makes the light more bearable."
Etta eyed the specs with curiosity as she stood and took them from him, noting that Viktor had donned a pair of these dark lens specs. She studied them, turning them this way and that. They reminded her of the protective goggles used in labs but in a lightweight, conveniently portable version. She peered into them before putting them on. And more comfortable, she noted as she looked around. "How fascinating," she said to herself.
Her eyes already having adjusted to the shady area they now stood, she removed them and folded them. With no pockets in her current attire, she settled on hooking them into the top of her bodice.
"Thank you," she said, looking back at the Dark One. After a moments thought, she decided to make amends. "I apologize for my earlier outburst." It would be best to try and maintain an amiable relationship with the person to whom you're indebted and after all, her father had raised her with manners. Her brow creased with worry. "My father. Were you able to save him?"

Rumpelstiltskin wordless watched her studying the specs. He still found it quite peculiar that someone needs dark glasses to bear the colours of the world.
"Thank you," A little pause, in which the Dark One had an inquiring look at her. "I apologize for my earlier outburst."
So the specs not only makes the light more bearable, also the shrew, huh? An amused grin flashed over his face.
"My father. Were you able to save him?", she suddenly asked with a worried expression.
The grin died down. Without a reply Rumpelstiltskin made a gesture that she shall follow him. He did some steps nearer to the waterfalls and then pointed at the place where the falls joined together with the river below. "As promised.", he sayed slowly pronounced. Within the movement of the waves there was seen the reflection of Henrietta's father. He still looked weak, his eyes bleak, but alive. Rumpel only grant her a short look, before with a move of his hand the image faded. "So, as you can see", he came closer to Henrietta. "I fulfilled my part of our deal."

The Dark One gestured for her to follow and she did, watching with the fascination of a doctor and scientist as with a simple point of his finger, an image began to materialize. She felt the back of her eyes prick with tears as the image of her father materialized. Still unwell but alive. Her hand twitched to reach out but stilled as the image disappeared just as fast as it had appeared.
"So, as you can see", he came closer to Henrietta. "I fulfilled my part of our deal."
"And so I must honor mine," she said distractedly, still staring at the waterfall. Resigning to her fate, Etta squared her shoulders and faced him. "Where do we start?"

"And so I must honor mine,""Where do we start?"
"Well...", Rumpelstiltskin began with a pretended thoughtfully expression. "We will start your training tomorrow morning." Henrietta had passed through an hard experience. Not that Rumpel would care little about her state of mind. But if the training shall come to fruition, she has to be with renewed strength. "Nighty!", he lastly sayed with a grin on his lips, ready to leave her all alone in a foreign land.

"Well...", "We will start your training tomorrow morning."
Etta was immensely relieved at that. She was exhausted, emotionally and physically.
"Nighty!"
To her surprise, he turned to leave and Etta panicked. "Wait, you're going to leave me? Outdoors in a strange land?" She sounded like a pampered princess even to her own ears though that wasn't the case. Her father did teach her responsibility and fending for herself but roughing it in the wild was never something that had entered their minds. They didn't exactly have much of a wild in her hometown.

Rumpelstiltskin lowered his steps with an amused smile, before he turned back to Henrietta. "I am going to train you, dear, not to adopt you.", he said with a high-pitched tone. "Besides", he added with a raised finger, "you're not alone anyway. Remember the doctor?" The word doctor had left his lips with an unmistakeable stultifying tone. Without waiting another reaction he turned and left within a magical fog. If this girl even wasn't able to pass a night outdoors, well, then she wasn't suited for his plans...

Viktor
Not far from them a man was hiding between the trees and the bushes. Of course he had been mad at Henrietta, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't care for her. Viktor came back to watch over her and to see she was in safety. He didn't get the words they spoke but that wasn't necessary as the scene he saw told his own story. The gnome promised she would be in safety but instead he abandoned her on the very first evening. Viktor clenched his fist. Who if not him knew that Rumpel would only fullfill the exact wording of the contract. Maybe he should leave his hideout but what would she think of him when she saw him leaving the bushes in that way? Still in thoughts he made a step back as he kicked an old stick which directly broke. Viktor hold his breath maybe she hasn't heard him yet and as slow and silent as possible he left his hideout to wait for her not far down the road...

Etta blinked at the dissipating fog. She was slightly less phased by it with each occurrence but didn't think she'd ever be completely unphased. The scientist in her always looked for the scientific workings behind anything and everything but right now, she was more concerned with her situation. Alone in a strange land. Of course she hadn't forgotten about Viktor. He'd left everything he knew behind in a foolish attempt to... what? Help her? Save her? There wasn't anything anybody could do. Her fate was set. Her life belonged to the Dark One now, by her choice.
But Viktor was in the same situation. Like her, he came from a civilized family who would balk at the idea of purposefully spending a night in the outdoors like a vagabond or a wild animal and like her, he'd spent much of his life in a lab.
The snapping of a twig startled her out of her thoughts. She froze, staring at the general location of the noise for any further disturbance or movement. "Viktor?" she called out, barely louder than a whisper.
But no answer or evidence that something lurked nearby. Perhaps she had imagined it? Becoming annoyed at herself, she decided there was no point in letting fear control her. How would she handle her new life if she can't handle a night in the woods? Glancing at her surroundings, she found a sturdy branch and wielded it like Gerhardt had taught her to wield a sword.
With a determined expression that belied her racing heart, Etta stepped into the woods and took in the surroundings as she slowly moved along a footpath. With each step, her courage grew until finally she spotted Viktor.
"Viktor," she said with relief. She lowered the point of the branch to the ground, resting her hand on the top. "It seems we've been left to fend for ourselves until morning. I think it best we stay together. Perhaps we can settle some of our misunderstandings as we work?"

Viktor
Not long after he found a proper place to wait for her, Henrietta already arrived holding a brunch as it was a sword. For a moment he was looking at her as if she was a brave knight and he was the princess in a mess. A slight smile showed around his lips as he came to meet her. While he was watching her from his hideout he imagined a thorough argumentation leading her to the conclusion to leave the dark one as soon as possible but now, as he was next to her, all words were lost.
"Perhaps we can settle some of our misunderstandings as we work?" Even if he watched her for most of the time he was really relieved she came back safe.
"Henrietta, I'm relieved you're safe. I'm so sorry to leave you alone with that... guy." He ran his fingers through his hair meanwhile. Why the hell was he that nervous? It wasn't the first time they met and not even the first time they've been on their own but for some strange reason he felt like having his first date even when he knew she wasn't feeling the same. Viktor looked around and suddenly realized that it was already late in the evening. They really had to hurry if they still wanted to find a good place to rest before it would be to dark to search for one. "Maybe we should move on. It's quite late and we won't be still here when it's already dark."

"Henrietta, I'm relieved you're safe. I'm so sorry to leave you alone with that... guy."
"But you haven't left me alone. You're here in this strange world with me, are you not?"
"Maybe we should move on. It's quite late and we won't be still here when it's already dark."
She agreed. They were beginning to lose light. As they walked back in the direction of the clearing, Etta began gathering sticks and branches that would be good as firewood.
"I think you misunderstood my statement earlier. I was not angry because I did not want you here. It was because you shouldn't be here. My anger was at the Dark One. You see, the agreement was that I would accompany him to this strange world. No one else was to be affected by all this. I thought he had played me for a fool and conned you into this whole mess. I had no idea you had come along of your own accord."
She dropped the armful of wood onto the ground. "I wasn't angry at you until after I learned you were here by choice." She placed her hands on her hips as she frowned at him. "As relieved as I am to not be alone in this terrifying moment of abandonment by the only person who knows this land, you should not be here. You should be living your life back home," she said with a wave in the general direction they'd entered this world. "I can look after myself but who will look after father?" She paused, swallowing the lump in her throat. "Or Gerhardt?"

Viktor
Silent and patient he listened to her words. Of course he shouldn't be here in a place that bright, that even night hurts his eyes. Just as little as she should. For a second he tried to imagine how Gerhardt was doing and silently prayed that he could escape the mob. His plan had almost been perfect except this little inconvenience. Gerhardt would have lived in the old castle and as soon as he would have found a way to outsmart the dark one he would have come back with Henrietta. Simple and easy, but now... he grinded his teeth.
"I know you're pretty tough and would be able to do so. But this land..." for a second he hesitated. Slowly he turned around looking back to where they were from as if he was checking for pursuer. "it's different from what we know." There were a lot of more words but he was unable to tell them. Unable to confess his liking. Seconds passend until he finally turned back to face Henrietta. "We really should leave and find a place for the night." Without further words he started to pick up the wood from the ground.

"Find a place? What if there isn't one and we end up lost in the forest? The clearing is--" she paused as his first words ran through her head again. this land... is different from what we know. The way he said it with such familiarity. "Wait, you've been to this land before." It wasn't a question but an accusation. She stood up, crossing her arms. She was more annoyed than angry. "How could you not have told me? Traveling to another world... the fact that there are other worlds..." she held her hands up and looked around. "From one doctor of science to another," she shook her head, "how could you have kept this from me? Or anyone, for that matter."
Knowing he'd been here before somewhat eased her fear of this new world. As she followed suit and began moving the wood out of the clearing and under bushes to leave no trace they'd been there, she found herself looking at her surroundings in a new light. With fascination rather than fear.

Now it was his time to drop the wood he only just gathered. "How could you not have told me?" For a second or two he was just starring at her with a half-opened mouth while his mind was rushing all possible explanations but none of them came close to anything he would believe. And truth? No... of course he couldn't tell her that he only went here to get a strong heart for Gerhardt. That he as well accepted the deal of that gnome.
With a little shake of his head he close his mouth and banished those thoughts. Instead he concentrated on her first question. The place for the night. "There's a road..." he murmurred pointing to the small pathway they were on. "...and it seems as if it has been used at least in the last days." he concluded as it wasn't overgrown by plants. "I think this is the right way." he said pointing in the direction they were facing to. As he had never been here he had absolutely no clue where they could find the next inn but as long as they were together they could overcome all possible dangers.

Apparently, he did not wish to talk about it. She gave him a pointed look that clearly stated the subject would be dropped but not forgotten and allowed the subject change.
She looked down, noticing the pathway he spoke of created of foliage ground down by the foot traffic of travelers. That gave her hope that there would be life other than the forest variety nearby. "Well spotted. And a highly logical theory to a probable solution. Well done, Doctor." Using the field they both excelled in to navigate through their situation put her even more at ease. She'd let fear block her from that realization but now that the fear was fading away, she found herself in a more logical frame of mind.
"But I didn't exactly have time to pack. I've no coin or anything of value on my person." She protectively covered her left hand with the other. Except for her engagement ring but she would not part with her only remaining link to Gerhardt. "You?"

Prince Eric
The temperature was dropping as the sun dipped below the tree's. It's warm glow and embrace only barely holding on. This close to the coast you could feel the difference if you found yourself in the shade. Eric was used to it though, spending more of his time on these little walks lately. He just made sure to dress the part preferring a simpler albeit fine stitched woolen tunic and breeches, saving the finer thiner garments for court.
He wasn't just running from the crowds and stifling atmosphere of the castle though, he couldn't bare to see his father like this... The way he had become. How long had it been? Months now? It didn't matter. The Physicians did not have good news though with the help of the Apothecary they had managed to at least keep him somewhat comfortable. He was grateful for that.
It wasn't long before the Prince rose from his thoughts to realize he had strayed further from the walls than normal. He should turn back... But he couldn't help but enjoy the sights, the wild, and most especially what lay just beyond the tree's to his left. Down a steep slope lay the sea. A pure beautiful stretch of blue heaven. There where no procedures out there, no sniveling lords and ladies telling you what you wanted to hear only to gossip and scheme behind your back. That was where he wanted to be... With a sigh the young man turned to head back to the castle when he heard something... The sound of voices drifting between the tree's, still too faint to make out.

Viktor
A broad smile turned onto his face while she was praising the logic that leaded to the discovery of the path even though of course it might be more luck than logic to uncover which would be the correct destination to choose.
"I've no coin or anything of value on my person. You?" Suddenly the previous smile froze. He had planned their getaway several times and even took a little bag with some coins from their old home with him but these coins would of course have absolutely no value in these lands. Why couldn't he think about taking some jewelry even though the simple thought changing his mothers necklace for some food or a place to stay for the night.
"Well... I got to confess that there might be a little snag but..." His thoughts were rushing but he couldn't figure out any possibility. Of course they could offer their logic and maybe their medical understanding. But would that help? He hardly knew anything about the people living in this land. Maybe they had a total different understanding of life and their surrounding. Gloomy he looked back to Henrietta as his mind suddenly cleared again. Of course it would work. Logic would always be logic. Else it would be something unpredictable like magic.
"We have something better. Logic and medical appreciation." And with a single gesture he offered her his right arm to follow the trail to whereever the path would lead them.

He was right again. Their circumstances now looking more positive, Etta was able to relax and offer a genuine smile as she took his arm and continued, carefully stepping over obstacles and pushing branches out of their way.
"If this land is anything like ours, I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to take in a couple of traveling doctors in exchange for--" Etta's steps faltered as did her train of thought when they stepped into the next clearing. Her hand tightened on Viktor's arm as they faced the stranger. He had a kind face but being in a strange realm put her on edge far more easily than if she'd been in her own.
She managed a tentative smile. Hopefully politeness and the good manners of a well bred lady was another trait that crossed realms and carried weight in their favor. "Good evening, sir. Apologize for our intrusion. Might you point us in the direction of the nearest town or village?"

Prince Eric
He attempted to follow the voices but they where cut by the trees and he wasn't sure he was heading in the right direction without seeing them. Tracking was not the prince's strong suit unfortunately. He stopped again to get his bearings, cutting out the sounds of his own footfalls. At that moment they came into view, heading right towards him on the path.
They both froze. It seemed they didn't know what to make of him, any more than he of them. They wore some foreign clothing, it was clear they were not of these parts. A long way from home, yet they did seem to be a well mannered couple. "Good evening, sir. Apologize for our intrusion. Might you point us in the direction of the nearest town or village?" Eric returned the smile the woman gave him, but his brow furled. "I am afraid you won't make the journey before nightfall. I think I can help you however. Please, if you will both walk with me I can show you to my castle. You can find lodging and food there until daybreak if you wish." He could not in good conscience leave them out in the dark with nothing more than what they wore on their backs.

She exchanged a look with Viktor but there really was no question that they would accept the offer. She released Viktor's arm to keep better pace with the stranger. "Your kindness is much appreciated sir."
At first, she'd assumed his reference of the castle as 'my' was simply because he worked and lived there but now upon closer inspection, despite the simple manner of dress, she noted the finer quality of the materials as well as the stitching. Perhaps he had a high ranking position with a royal family or was a lower ranking member of a royal family or perhaps, despite his dress and lack of accompanying guards, was himself a prince or king? Whatever the case, it was better to err on the side of over-ranking rather than under. "Forgive my impertinence, but should I be addressing you as 'Your Majesty'?"

Prince Eric
"Forgive my impertinence, but should I be addressing you as 'Your Majesty'?" The prince couldn't help a smile forming on his face but his back was to them as he lead the way. He did spare a chuckle however as he slightly craned his head to the side. "For that you would be referring to my father." The humor died somewhat. "Alas it will not be possible to make his acquaintance. I shall do my best to extend the hospitality in his stead."
He was overcome with curiosity and was perhaps in danger of talking his guests ears off. "I do hope you pardon my questions but do you both come from a neighboring kingdom?" Eric's mind and body worked against one another, as his thoughts raced his feet quickened. He had to make a conscious effort to slow down so as to hear their response.

Viktor
He hadn't expect to see any stranger in this part of the woods or at least not that soon but this young man could be a lucky coincidence. Suspiciously he was examining the stranger while Henrietta already was talking to him. The stranger introduced himself as the prince of these lands which could be again some lucky coincidence. In case it was the truth and it wasn't any of those traps the gnome loves to lay.
"I do hope you pardon my questions but do you both come from a neighboring kingdom?" Was he just testing them? Viktor tried to read his opposites face while he was answering in a very vague way. "No, we're far away from home, Sir. But... " Viktor was trying to quickly change the topic without making it to obvious to the stranger. "... I hope there's no serious matter your father is involved in." When he had been here for the last time it was only for a short glance. Who knows if there were any wars or plagues or worse going on these days.

Viktor's familiarity with the king of this land reminded her once again that she was the only true stranger here. It did serve as a small bit of relief for their predicament but she still couldn't believe he'd kept such a grand secret from her.
"We are traveling doctors of... medicine," she'd almost said 'science' but was unsure if a land that possessed magic as a seemingly basic resource even knew the word. "We'd be more than happy to repay your kindness by providing our services to you and your people."

"Medicine? My fathers physicians have been unable to do anything to alleviate the Kings suffering, unfortunately." Eric's pain was aparent, spread across his features. "Perhaps you have a different skill set in your realm that might indentify what our people could not."
He was not about to invite these kind people into his home however only to press them into service. "That can wait until you both have rested from you journey and taken some food and drink."

***A few days after Etta and Prince Eric's talk on the castle roof***
Etta found herself back to where she'd first entered this world. It had been a few days since Eric had left to fulfill a diplomatic duty and a few hours longer since the Dark One had unceremoniously dumped her here without any idea of what she was in for. Prince Eric would be a wonderful king to his people. He was kind, understanding, wise, and inordinately patient. He would be returning soon and the Dark One had yet to reappear. She'd hoped to have spoken to him by now so that she'd be ready with a decision when the prince returned.
Every day, after visiting with Eric's father and assisting with his comfort, which was all they could do for him at this point, she'd wandered out to the gardens and walked the paths, hoping the Dark One would appear. Today, in her distracted, frustrated thoughts, she'd wandered all the way back to the beginning.
This was not good, letting the frustration get to her. She could feel the beast within stirring whenever she angered and it seemed to be getting stronger. It scared her. It was getting worse by the day which increased her frustration and made it harder to calm herself and relax. It was a vicious cycle. The walking helped but it was starting to not be enough.
Etta paused to pick up a smooth rock here and there on her way to the water's edge. 'Where is that infernal creature?' she wondered to herself as she sent the first rock skipping across the water's surface. The soothing sound of the waterfall, the chirps of forest dwelling birds, the distracting activity of sending the stones skipping. She felt her tension easing.

That infernal creature was much closer than she thought. He has been the entire time. He was willing to train the young woman with the beast inside. But to his conditions. Also he approved of her newest acquaintanceship. It was only the doctor, who still was a mittstone around Rumplestiltskin's neck.
The Dark One was observing her walk through the forest from above the trees or to be more correctly from out of the trees. Actually his plan was to stall her just a little longer, but then he admired her stamina at wandering out in a strange land every day, only to await his appearance. This time she even reached the place where he had brought her some days ago. Wasn't it about time that he finally showed up again?
He felt the beastly power flaring inside her, while she reached at last the water's edge. The water which had shown Henrietta her father's image some days ago. A grin formed on the Dark One's lips, as she watched her picking up a stone from the ground and sent it skipping across the water's surface. What would an appearance be without some kind of performance? And so the imp in the trees raised only a finger to let appear a gap in the water's surface, which swallowed the stone like a crocodile swallowed a frog, as crocodiles weren't able to chew. Rumplestiltskin waited some seconds before he let the stone reappear from out of the gap and letting it jump back exactly the same way Henrietta did, with the only difference that he was using magic for it.
