Neverland - Pan and the Lost Boys' Camp Events occurring 150 years before Dark Curse

Pan walked up and down the little path, which led to his and the lost boys' home, on his lips a satisfied grin. Again he had found a way to give this pirate the run-around. As he would off-handedly let the hook-handed old man escape from his island. Well, actually Pan hadn't decided what to do with him yet. But even if he would let him escape, not without a service in return of course. While Pan thought about something useful, it could at least serve him some fun to watch the pirate walking around like a little mole. Peter used the forefingers of both of his hands to make a whistle sound. It wasn't long, before a shape appeared from out of the jungle. A shadow. His shadow. Pan didn't need spoken words to communicate with it. So he stared at the shadow, asking it a question. Where is he? An eerie whisper was sounding out of the shape in front of him and let his grin suddenly die down. "What?", Pan spat out angrily. "Then go find him!" Another whisper was filling the air, before the shadow made something like a bow and disappeared into the jungle again. Pan turned around, his eyebrows drawn down. Jones couldn't have ended in smoke. At last one fact brought satisfaction back to his face... He wasn't able to leave Neverland. Not without the help of his. With a nasty smile the boy walked back to the camp to join the others around the fireplace.

*A long time ago*
The kids have maneuvered him through the trees on the island, being rough but not too rough. Apparently they didn’t want him falling. Not that Bae can find it in himself to care. He’s still captured and he’s still mad at the pirate captain, the man who tore his family apart. And as if that weren’t bad enough then the man had to turn him over to the lost boys. Before he can think on that too much he’s suddenly pushed forward. His knees hit the ground and he realizes he must be in some sort of clearing. They have brought him to their destination.

Pan was waiting in one of the open treehouses, playing the pipe, as he heard Felix and the other boys arrive. Finally, Pan thought, looking at the figure with the sack over the face. So this was the owner of the heart of the truest believer... "Take it off.", Pan commanded to Felix, who was standing next to the figure with the sack. Finally he found... For one little moment anger was seen in Pan's eyes. This wasn't the Truest Believer. This was an ordinary boy. Wait. Not exactly an ordinary boy. It was the Dark One's boy. Rumpelstiltskin's son. The anger changed into joy. This wasn't what he had expected, but it actually wasn't that amiss.
With one fast move Pan jumped down from the treehouse to approach them. A wide smile was the first the boy would get to see. "Welcome home, newcomer.", he said with a friendly smile.

"Take it off." That voice… it’s oddly familiar. A second later the sack is ripped off his head and he finds himself staring up at a teenage boy. A boy he’s seen before. "Welcome home, newcomer."
“You?” he questions, recognizing the Pied Piper. Suddenly he’s starting to see why his father reacted the way he did. The Pied Piper had him captured and almost captured Wendy’s brothers too. No wonder Papa hadn’t wanted him to go with this guy. He remembers then that the pirate had said no one could leave Neverland. But that’s not true. The Pied Piper had gone to the Enchanted Forest. Did that mean he could take Bae there now? Of course the boy seems much crueler now but he had been willing to help once before, in the past. Maybe he’d be willing to do so again. But first things first. “What do you want with me?”

“You?”, the boy questioned astonished. So he hadn't forgotten their little meeting a while ago. Pan answered with a grin, wordless following the unspoken questions in the boys' eyes, until he raised up his voice again. “What do you want with me?” Aha, right to the point!
"Offer you a new home.", Pan answered, playing the good guy. "How safe can a place be with a pirate around, handing over a boy like cheesy ware? Here" Pan made a little pause to point around the Lost Boys' camp. "you'll be safe. Be one of us." Felix exchanged glances with him for a moment. The Lost Boys seemed to be unsure about Pan's plans with the boy. Probably they even didn't notice yet, that they've brought him the wrong boy. But then, they didn't knew his plans, even if this was the right one. If no one was too much involved, the risk of getting betrayed was lower. There was only one person who was. And that one was no real person at all. Pan's eyes turned back to the boy. "I'm Peter. Peter Pan.", he introduced himself. "What's your name?"

"Offer you a new home." "How safe can a place be with a pirate around, handing over a boy like cheesy ware? Here you'll be safe. Be one of us." Bae looks around at all the boys. Home. He wanted a home. He’s thought he could have that with his dad. He had had that with his dad until the curse came. And then he’d thought that maybe he could have a home with the pirate. That had taught him that his true home was with his papa though. It reminded him how much he loved his papa and now he just wants to go back to him. "I'm Peter. Peter Pan." "What's your name?"
“Baelfire,” he states. “And thanks for the offer Peter Pan, but I want to go back to my father instead.”

“Baelfire,”“And thanks for the offer Peter Pan, but I want to go back to my father instead.”
The boy didn't seem to get the situation. There was no way to go back to his father, as there was no way out of this island. At least not as long as Pan didn't want him to leave. And of course he didn't want him to leave. His island - his rules. Pan just wondered why the pirates hadn't told him about it. About him. Well, his advantage.
"Have you ever heard about the secret of Neverland, Baelfire?", he suddenly asked, ignoring the boy's statement for the time being.

"Have you ever heard about the secret of Neverland, Baelfire?" Okay, that sounds like he’s not going to help. Bae knows right then and there that he should start treating this guy like the kidnapper he’s proven himself to be and not the friendly kid offering to help him with his father. That bit had been a lie, he’s sure of it now. So he regards Peter Pan warily as he answers.
“No.”

Baelfire's wary glances hasn't slipped Pan's attention of course. Prudent boy. Pan had to be careful, if he wanted to get his trust.
"No."
"What do you think how old I am?", Pan responded with another question, before giving an answer to the preceding one. An amused grin lay on his lips, while he was waiting for a guess. Games were his passion, regardless of whether it was something big or just a little guessing game.

"What do you think how old I am?" Now he remembers the talk he had with his papa. He remembers how his papa said Pan was immortal. And more importantly he remembers how he said Pan was darker than anything Bae should be exposed to. He needs to be careful here, and getting home is probably not an option he needs to entertain anymore. Maybe there is a way, but for the moment he probably needs to focus on just surviving.
“A lot older than you look,” he replies, glad that his papa told him that much. The little bit of knowledge he passed on might just be enough to help Bae last against Pan. Hopefully.

“A lot older than you look,” So the boy did know more about him as he had assumed. Well, he wasn't able to escape anyway.
A friendly smile, just like those one of your best friends is giving to you, was shown on Pan's face. "Well played!", he responded. "So you already know the island's secret. It's time. Time stands still here. Or otherwise put, we have all the time in the world to do everything we want to do. To be anyone we want to be. Just imagine, Baelfire!", with these words Pan approached the wary boy. "No limits. No rules. No annoying adults telling us what to do and what not to. They had never understand what we really want, what we're trying to tell them. Am I right?" Yes, Pan loved to hear himself talking. And he hoped to strike a chord with his words. Wouldn't it be a lot of fun to set the boy against his father? Sure it would.

The other boy smiles then. "Well played!" "So you already know the island's secret. It's time. Time stands still here. Or otherwise put, we have all the time in the world to do everything we want to do. To be anyone we want to be. Just imagine, Baelfire!" Those words might entice others but all Bae has ever really wanted is to be with his papa. That’s why he tried to get his papa to leave with him by taking the bean. He just wants his papa back. He doesn’t care about having all the time in the world to do anything he wants because what he really wants can’t be gotten here. "No limits. No rules. No annoying adults telling us what to do and what not to. They had never understand what we really want, what we're trying to tell them. Am I right?"
True. Adults never get it. His papa didn’t understand the need to get rid of the curse, his mother didn’t understand that she should have stayed with them, Hook didn’t understand that it was wrong to use a boy to find out how to kill his father. But Pan didn’t understand either. Pan is trying to make himself sound nice but he kidnapped Bae and would have done so to John and Michal if Bae hadn’t taken their place. No, Pan is not nice and Bae is not going to play along.
“I suppose,” he says in answer to the question. “But I don’t think a kidnapper really understands the people he captures either.”

Of course Pan perceived the suspicion in Baelfire's eyes, while he was trying to influence him with the right words. The boy seemed to be really headstrong. If he didn't know, he would never get the idea speaking to Rumpelstiltskin's son. But then, there was something in his eyes changing, when Pan mentioned that adults never get it. Sure the boy was thinking about it - about his dad.
“I suppose,”, Baelfire admitted. “But I don’t think a kidnapper really understands the people he captures either.”
"You get that wrong, Baelfire.", Pan answered with a friendly smile, deliberately using the boy's name as often as possible to bring up a homey feeling on him. "We haven't kidnapped you. We've saved you." After a little pause he continued. "We just had to make it look like a kidnap to get you out of the pirate's hands, you know? Or hand and... hook.", Pan added with a chuckle in Felix' direction, who let out a hoarse laughter.

"You get that wrong, Baelfire." He frowns as Pan smiles, going on to explain exactly how Bae is wrong. "We haven't kidnapped you. We've saved you." Saved him? Saved him by sending the shadow after him? By throwing a sack on his head? "We just had to make it look like a kidnap to get you out of the pirate's hands, you know? Or hand and... hook." They laugh at that as Bae thinks. It actually does make sense. And he realizes that he has jumped to conclusions about the shadow. There is currently no evidence to suggest that Pan controls it. But his papa had been adamant about this guy being evil. There had to be a reason for that.
"Thanks then," he says, warily watching Pan, wondering about the shadow. It's probably best not to mention that yet though. Gathering more information first sounds like the best plan. "But you never answered my question. Can you take me back to my papa?" Because as mad as he still is at his papa, he still wants to be with him. It was magic that ruined things and there is magic here too. He'd like to go back to his papa and work that out if he can. Because as he told Wendy family was important, magic or no magic, anger or no anger. So if Pan could take him back to the Enchanted Forest then he wants to go.

"Thanks then,", Pan heard the boy saying, though he didn't fail to notice, that there still was disbelief in his eyes. He would need to procure even more effort to make this boy believe. Believe in his lies. Or to be more exactly, make him trust. It was no lie to withhold the truth, wasn't it?
"But you never answered my question. Can you take me back to my papa?", Baelfire suddenly came back to his earlier question.
Pan's facial expression changed into an empathetic one. "I wish I could, Baelfire.", he answered with a sigh, before doing one more step in the boy's direction. Felix and Nibs both let fully up on Baelfire and joined the other Lost Boys. "But I can't leave this island, just like you. Not anymore." Okay, now this was a lie. But who cares? Makes the game more exciting, doesn't it? Pan let his words stand open like that. For now. Baelfire would ask for details anyway. He would have heard about Pan's ability to travel between the lands. He even have seen him being in the Enchanted Forest once. So this game maybe was risky, but worth the fun for sure.

"I wish I could, Baelfire." The others back off from him as Pan comes closer and so he stands, facing the other boy. "But I can't leave this island, just like you. Not anymore." He frowns then taking it in.
"Why?" he questions as he starts to think about an answer himself. He can't find one but he does need to remember what his papa said about Pan being dangerous. He could be lying. But he seems so nice and Bae really wants to believe that for once someone is being honest and not lying to him. Maybe he is telling the truth. Well, best to hear his answer and then judge.

"Why?", Baelfire questioned, by now seemed to be unsure if he should start to trust him or not. But this was a start.
"I've lost something.", Pan answered, trying to look as painful as he could, looking down at the ground for a moment. The Lost Boys behind emulated his deed, though they still didn't seem to have discovered who the boy was. "But I can't retrieve it on my own." Inwardly Pan was grinning. The boy was too bountiful to call him a liar for sure. A new game has started, though it weren't all details set yet.

"I've lost something." "But I can't retrieve it on my own." Bae frowns, looking at Pan. He looks so sad about it and even though he's been warned about Pan, he was warned by his papa. By a man trying to keep Bae from making his own choices. Papa had lied about going through the portal with Bae. He could have lied about Pan too. And anyways, it can't hurt to hear what it is Pan needs.
"What did you lose?" he asks. "Maybe I can help."

"What did you lose?""Maybe I can help."
Gotcha! "You really would do that for me?", Pan played the role of the innocent boy, who needed Baelfire's help. His face still was wreathed in sadness. "Well no, it's better not to put you in danger. I wouldn't bear to know that it's my fault if something happens." Manipulation was one of his greatest qualities. The only question now was if the boy would take the bait. But Pan was sure there was relying on his curiosity. "I'm really sorry I can't take you back to your Papa, Baelfire. But you shall know, that you're no captive. You can go wherever you want on this island." At least you can try, Pan added in thoughts.

"You really would do that for me?" Well of course he would, if it meant the possibility of getting back to his papa. "Well no, it's better not to put you in danger. I wouldn't bear to know that it's my fault if something happens." "I'm really sorry I can't take you back to your Papa, Baelfire. But you shall know, that you're no captive. You can go wherever you want on this island." Captive. The word stirs in his mind, bringing him unease and reminding him that he was just forcefully removed from the pirates boat. It reminds him of the question of the shadow as well. This guy is dangerous. Both his papa and Captain Hook seem to think so. But if Pan really is missing what he needs to travel between realms then Bae needs to help him. And if he isn't then he's going to try and hurt Bae anyways. He can still help as long as he stays skeptical of the boy in front of him.
"No, I can help," he promises. I can fight. The memory hits him hard and makes him fight back tears. He can be brave though, he can do this. And he won't cry over memories of his papa, he won't. "Tell me what I need to know."

Did he say something wrong? Pan wondered about Baelfire's reaction. About the sudden mindfulness. But who cares? Rumpelstiltskin's boy was his captive anyway.
"No, I can help,", Baelfire lastly stated. A smile was forming on Pan's lips, maybe a little bit too joyful. "Tell me what I need to know."
"I'll tell you everything you have to know, Baelfire.", Pan answered, more seriously again. "But not today. You should get some rest for now and you're hungry for sure either, aren't you? We have everything you want... even the sweetest candy parents didn't allow their children to eat.", he added on the quite, let a twinkle follow his words.

"I'll tell you everything you have to know, Baelfire." "But not today. You should get some rest for now and you're hungry for sure either, aren't you? We have everything you want... even the sweetest candy parents didn't allow their children to eat." Once Pan mentions it Bae realizes that he is pretty tired and he could use some food. Though he doesn't know about the sweetest candy. There was a time he would have jumped at that, but ever since his papa had become the Dark One he had gotten access to more sweets. He'd also learned that there was a valid point behind the phrase 'too much of a good thing'. Though a bit of candy wouldn't hurt.
"Yeah, that's a good idea," he agrees with Pan. If he gets some food and rest he'll be ready to take on whatever he needs to to get back what Pan lost. And then he'll be that much closer to getting home.

"Yeah, that's a good idea,", Baelfire agreed.
"Fine.", Pan replied with a smile, a little bit amused. He was wondering, if the boy believed enough to eat with them. In Neverland everything was possible, as long as you was able to imagine. Though of course only Pan was able to do everything, as he was the one running the island. But as long as he wanted to have fellow players, the Lost Boys were able to join his games. Baelfire would make a good Lost Boy. Pan's smile was growing, as he imagined Rumpelstiltskin's look, when he'll see his son standing next to him. Once the boy decided to stay, he'll forget the pain about his cowardly father. They all have learned to forget the past, voluntary or not...
"Then follow the others. I'll join in a moment." With these words Pan turned around to the treehouses, while one of the other boys, not older as Baelfire himself, directed towards the newcomer. "I'm Nibs. Welcome in our camp.", the Lost Boy introduced himself. "I'll show you round, till supper is ready."

"Fine." "Then follow the others. I'll join in a moment." Pan walks away as some others come closer.
"I'm Nibs. Welcome in our camp." "I'll show you round, till supper is ready."
"Hi Nibs, I'm Baelfire," he greets, smiling at the other boy. He has to admit, meeting other kids his age who actual want to be friends with him and aren't scared of his father is very refreshing. Some other introductions go around as other boys introduce themselves and then they are leading Bae around their camp in what they call the 'grand tour'. Bae comments everything he can to memory. He could need all this information later. So he watches and learns and nods and jokes with the others, hoping he won't ever have to use the knowledge they are giving him against them. If Pan is as nice as he claims then he won't. But if he isn't... Bae is willing to do whatever it takes to get home.

***The next day***
He wakes up later that morning having slept by the fire under the stars after eating his fill of delicious food. It really isn't so bad here. But still, he doesn't really want to stay here which leads to helping Pan. He stands then, looking around the camp of still sleeping boys (apparently they don't get up with the sun like he's used to). He'll find Pan, ask about the object he needs to find, and then get it so he can go home.

Pan was already awake. He ordinarily was the first awake, looking up at the pixies flying around in his lamp, spending light to him like the other boys did with fireflies instead. But Pan liked to be more decadently. This morning he didn't seem to be the early bird. The sound of quite steps made him turn around his head. Through the open walls of his treehouse Pan recognized Rumpelstiltskin's son walking around the camp. Oh yes, he remembered to have put him off till morning. After a little stretching of his arms Pan stood up to get his meeple placed.
"Are you searching for somethin'?", he asked the boy from the side, after approached him very quiete. His arms akimbo a naughty grin was spreading around his lips. "I Hope you've slept well."

"Are you searching for somethin'?" Bae starts and turns to see Pan standing there grinning at him. "I Hope you've slept well."
"Yes, thank you," he says back. "And I was looking for you. You said you'd tell me about this object so I could help you get it back." Perhaps he's being a bit too direct, but he just wants to find the object as quickly as possible. The quicker he finds it the quicker he can get home and the quicker he can sort out his mixed feelings about his papa. So at the risk of coming off as rude, he is getting down to business.

"Yes, thank you,", Baelfire answered as much as an act of courtesy, as the question was. "And I was looking for you. You said you'd tell me about this object so I could help you get it back." Right to the point. As if the boy had those ants in the pants because of being helpful. He acted in the same selfish way everyone did. But why he couldn't await to get back to his cowardly father? Well, none of his business.
"I'm impressed.", Pan stated with an appreciative look at him. "Full of zest for action, aren't you?", he added with a grin, before he came closer to Rumpelstiltskin's boy. "Well, unfortunately I can't tell you much." At least he didn't want to. The more the boy knew, the more he could become an obstacle than a help. "It's an old lamp, holding some kind of special magic in it.", Pan continued, carefully choosing his words to not wake too much of interest in the boy's head, though he doubted the intended choosen word magic would be a risk. Despite, to be sure, he added: "Dangerous magic. Powerful enough to harm someone isn't trained to handle it."

"I'm impressed." "Full of zest for action, aren't you?" Bae doesn't really know what is so impressive about being ready to go on a quest. He just really wants to get home. "Well, unfortunately I can't tell you much." Bae feels a bit disappointed by that. Less information means it will take longer to find what he's looking for. "It's an old lamp, holding some kind of special magic in it." Bae nods. He'd know it would have to be some kind of magical object, even if he doesn't really like magic. If magic is the only thing that will get him back to his papa then so be it. "Dangerous magic. Powerful enough to harm someone isn't trained to handle it."
"You don't have to worry," Bae assures Pan. "I'll leave the using magic part to you." To be honest not very much could make Bae ever use magic himself. Pan doesn't have to worry at all. ""Do you know where I might find the lamp?" The answer is probably a no since Pan needs help finding it but it doesn't hurt to ask.
