***Kaeden enters from Hogwarts Great Lake***
The entrance hall was huge. The stone walls were lit with flaming torches, the ceiling was too high to make out, and a marble staircase facing them led to the upper floors. The munchkins around Kaeden talked in fear and excitement, and as the professor led them across the flagged stone floor, the drone of hundreds of voices came from a doorway to the right.
The professor leading them showed them into a small, empty chamber off the great hall. The lack of space caused some of the first years to be pressed up against her. Her distaste in them was mutual.
“Welcome to Hogwarts,” said the Professor. “The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your Houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your House will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your House, sleep in your House dormitory, and spend time in your House common room.”
“The four Houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each House has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your House points, while any rules-breaking will lose House points. At the end of the year, the House with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever House becomes yours.”
“The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting.” The Professor glanced over the children around Kaeden and gave her a sympathetic look over. “I shall return when we are ready for you. Please wait quietly.” Professor Longbottom left the chamber.

Kaeden
After waiting for what felt like hours, the professor finally stepped back into the room. The children around Kaeden began smoothing down their robes furiously and and whispering intensely, but fell quiet the moment Professor Longbottom began speaking.
"The sorting ceremony will begin shortly. Now form a line and follow me." Professor Longbottom instructed.
Kaeden watched as the younger kids hurridly made a line behind the professor. Maybe if she didn't move then they would forget about her here. The last of the kids in line made their way out of the room, but Kaeden moved to the darkest shadow in the room and sat against the wall. I will not be sorted. I will not go here.

Two men suddenly fill the room. What looks to be another professor and a student close to her age. Kaeden slows her breathing to an inaudiable sound and closes her eyes to prevent a reflection showing in them. She knows they can't see her and hopes her heartbeat isn't as loud as she thinks it is.

"Oh you had a run in with Peeves? That explains the smell of orange blossom covering you." Tharin looked quickly around the empty room in front of him. "They were just here. The air is still tense with fear. Little excitement from this years group."

"Oh you had a run in with Peeves? That explains the smell of orange blossom covering you." Orange blossom? Great, he does still smell like orange blossoms. And of course he can’t remember the spell to fix it. Oh well. He’ll just have to live with it for a bit. At least he doesn’t reek of stink bomb. "They were just here. The air is still tense with fear. Little excitement from this years group." He frowns as he looks around the empty room. Tharin is right, he can sense the lingering excitement. However he also can sense something else. It could just be his paranoia, but he wants to check it out. He pulls out is wand as he surveys the room.
“Lumos,” he says. Light floods the room and there in a corner stands a girl. The girl they’ve been hunting no doubt. Which begs the question of why she is here and not with the first years. She seems to be getting herself in as much trouble as she possibly can.

"Oh you had a run in with Peeves? That explains the smell of orange blossom covering you." The student said. Peeves? At least that explained the smell of orange blossoms that had floated across the lake. "They were just here. The air is still tense with fear. Little excitement from this years' group." Kaeden could feel her heart beating harder.
The older man frowned and pulled out his stick, his wand, “Lumos." Light flooded the room.
I hate magic. It ruins everything. Kaeden quickly threw her hand up to shield her eyes from the sudden brightness. She held her breath, and she squeezed her eyes shut as tight as she could before blinking as quickly as she could. Her eyes began tearing up and she could feel her face reddening.
She slowly lowered her arm to see the men more clearly. A few tears were already trailing down her face. "I'm sorry, Professor. Am I in trouble?" Kaeden asked in her best English accent before she hugged her self and looked at her feet. "I came here because... because I didn't want the rest of the school to see me cry. It's just that my boyfriend broke up with me yesterday, and I'm still trying to come to terms with it. He dumped me through a text." Kaeden looked the professor in the eye, "A text of all things! What type of person dumps someone through a text?" Kaeden threw herself against Tharin and began sobbing. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I... I just don't know what to do..."

Professor McCormick frowned and pulled out his wand, “Lumos." Light floods the room and there in a corner stands a girl. She quickly blocks her face from the bright light suddenly in the room.
When she lowers it, Tharin could see that she had been crying. Tears trailed down her face which was red and blotchy. She looked towards Professor McCormick. "I'm sorry, Professor. Am I in trouble?" She hugged her self and looked at her feet. The girl had a strong English accent. Tharin sighed, she couldn't be the girl he was looking for.
"I came here because... because I didn't want the rest of the school to see me cry. It's just that my boyfriend broke up with me yesterday, and I'm still trying to come to terms with it. He dumped me through a text." She looked back up, her eyes wide and bloodshot, "A text of all things! What type of person dumps someone through a text?" She threw herself against Tharin and began sobbing. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I... I just don't know what to do..."
"Oh..um.." Tharin awkwardly put a hand on the girl's back. "Um, it will be okay. Just try to calm down." Tharin looked back at Professor McCormick with wide eyes. 'HELP ME!' he mouthed at the professor.

He listens to the almost perfect British accent, watches as she starts crying, crocodile tears he’s certain, and frowns when she gets theatrical and flings herself into Tharin’s arms. The poor lad is flustered and tries to comfort the girl, mouthing a ‘Help me’ as Nick takes in the lack of a house symbol on the girls uniform.
“Lying won’t help you Miss Carson,” he states calmly, making sure he is blocking her way to the exit so she can’t make an escape. “I’m willing to talk to you and help you sort some things out if you’re having problems, but you need to stop the theatrics and start telling the truth.”

What?
Tharin pushed the girl away from him, but kept a strong grip on her arm. "Excuse me, Professor? Is this Arizona?" Tharin quickly realized what he'd said, "Uhm, I mean, is this the new girl?" His grip on the girl's arm wavered. If this was Arizona, then he wanted to punch her, but if she wasn't then he didn't want to hurt her even the slightest.

" Oh..um.." The boy obviously felt awkward, but he put a hand on the Kaeden's back anyway. "Um, it will be okay. Just try to calm down." One sucker down, one more to go. Why are boys so scared of female emotions? Kaeden hid her grin against the student's chest.

Why'd he have to know my name?
The student pushed Kaeden away from him, but kept a strong grip on her arm. "Excuse me, Professor? Is this Arizona?" Arizona? Why does he call me that? He must have found my knife… The student quickly corrected himself, "Uhm, I mean, is this the new girl?" His grip on the Kaeden’s arm wavered. For a moment it would be almost painful, the next it was almost nonexistent.
“Ow! You’re hurting me!” Kaeden pulled her arm away from the student’s loose hold and rubbed where he had been holding her. “What’s this all about Professor?” Kaeden began wishing she had just followed the annoying tots when she’d had the chance.

"Excuse me, Professor? Is this Arizona?" Arizona? Where did that come from? "Uhm, I mean, is this the new girl?" Apparently whatever Tharin was vague on earlier has to do with this new development. Nick should probably pressure him about this. But then the lass is speaking.
“Ow! You’re hurting me!” She pulls away from Tharin and rubs her arm. He watches her, trying to get a feel for what she’s thinking as she keeps talking. “What’s this all about Professor?”
“I heard that you got in a fight,” he states, eyes never leaving hers. “I’d like to hear all about that and your reasons for not sticking with the group of first years like you should have.” He hates this actually. The disciplining of students. He wishes teaching was just teaching and not looking into fights and sorting out problems. But this has to be done and maybe he can help Kaeden out a bit. She probably needs it after everything she’s been through, what with being forced to move here from the states and all. And then he can ask Tharin why in the world he calls her Arizona.

The professor ignored the student except for a quick glance, “I heard that you got in a fight,” he stated, keeping eye contact with Kaeden. “I’d like to hear all about that and your reasons for not sticking with the group of first years like you should have.” The professor grimaced. He must really hate teenagers. No wonder they had a pushover lead the munckins.
Kaeden cleared her throat slightly before speaking in her own accent, "What's a lone girl to do when two younger boys try to force themselves upon her?" She crossed her arms and looked at the professor defiantly. "Though I do suppose I should be headin' on out there with the rest of the children. Wouldn't want to cause a scene with me being late and all." Kaeden took a few steps closer to the door.

Was that Professor McCormick's way of saying this was Arizona? “I’d like to hear all about that and your reasons for not sticking with the group of first years like you should have.” I really don't want to punch an innocent girl, Professor! Please give me a sign!
The girl cleared her throat and speaking in an American accent, "What's a lone girl to do when two younger boys try to force themselves upon her?" Arizona crossed her arms and looked at the professor defiantly. "Though I do suppose I should be headin' on out there with the rest of the children. Wouldn't want to cause a scene with me being late and all." She took a few steps closer to the door, but Tharin grabbed her and slammed her against the wall.
"You don't lie to him!" Tharin lifted her off her feet, "Maybe I should let you feel some of the pain you've caused me today. Does that sound like a good idea to you?" Tharin knew he should stop, that he should shut his mouth and let her down, but knowing that couldn't make him stop his arm from pulling back.

Finally she starts speaking in her normal voice. "What's a lone girl to do when two younger boys try to force themselves upon her?" Really? Boys younger than her tried to force themselves on her. He highly doubts that. "Though I do suppose I should be headin' on out there with the rest of the children. Wouldn't want to cause a scene with me being late and all." That’s an escape technique. She’s lying and trying to get out of here. He sighs as she gets closer to the door. Why does she have to make this more difficult?
"You don't lie to him!" Before he can react Tharin is grabbing the girl, lifting her off her feet. "Maybe I should let you feel some of the pain you've caused me today.” A memory threatens to take him over but he forces it back ruthlessly as he moves forward. “Does that sound like a good idea to you?" Tharin’s hand draws back and Nick grabs it in an iron grip, unsure whether or not he’s feeling angry or guilty. Either way he keeps his voice calm when he speaks.
“Set her down Tharin,” he states calmly. “This is not how we deal with things.” He would have thought a seventh year would know that. He would have thought a prefect would know that. Oh how he wishes it was another teacher here. Anyone would probably do a better job than he is. Come to think of it, one of the heads of house or even the headmaster probably should be dealing with this. He’ll pass the problem on to one of them eventually, but for right now he needs to calm this situation down and hopefully get an answer or two. But oh how he wishes he wasn’t here.

"You don't lie to him!" Kaeden's mind is reeling, was this the punishment at this school? "Maybe I should let you feel some of the pain you've caused me today. Does that sound like a good idea to you?" What did she do to him to cause him pain?
The student pulls back his arm to punch her, but the professor quickly steps in and grabs him. “Set her down Tharin,” he stated calmly. “This is not how we deal with things.” Kaeden kinda wished the teacher hadn't stepped in, and they could have just fought. This guy would have made a better opponent than that annoyance on the train.
The boy suddenly dropped her. Kaeden took her chance and bolted for the door. You'd think that at a school for magic there would be less fist fighting and more magic spelling. I should be grateful though, magic would be so much worse. At least I know I can heal from a punch.

His arm stopped. “Set her down Tharin,” Professor McCormick stated calmly. “This is not how we deal with things.” Tharin's arms went limp, and Arizona fell and ran out the door.
The prey is getting away boy. You had her in your grasp, and you failed. You always fail me.
"Shut up!" Tharin turned and grabbed Professor McCormick by the shoulders, looking him in the eye. "How do you make the memories and voices go away?" Tharin stared at his hands on the professors shoulders and jumped back like he'd been burned. "I'm sorry, Professor McCormick. This is the first time I've lost control since he died. I don't know what's happening." Tharin looked everywhere except his professor. He didn't want to see the shame in his eyes.

To his relief Tharin drops her. Only then she’s running out the door. He sighs. Doesn’t she realize that this is only going to cause more problems for her? Well, he should probably go after her and… "Shut up!" Arms are on his shoulders and eyes bore into his and all he can see is a man standing before him. He can smell the musty tunnels and feel the dirt and blood. "How do you make the memories and voices go away?" That jolts him back to reality and he almost laughs aloud because that question is ironic. He doesn’t have the answer to that. In fact, he’s the worst person to ask. But then Tharin is jumping back. "I'm sorry, Professor McCormick. This is the first time I've lost control since he died. I don't know what's happening." Guilt hits him hard as Tharin looks away. Arnold Drake is dead and Nick’s alive and it just isn’t fair, not when he sees what it’s doing to this lad.
“It’s natural to react like this after something traumatic,” he states, unsure if he’s talking to the lad or himself. His hands start shaking but he moves them behind his back so Tharin can’t see. Now, how to help Tharin. It’s the least Nick can do. Suggest therapy? Who’s he kidding; Nick won’t even talk to his own psychiatrist. “I’m sorry he died Tharin,” he says the truth, looking down at the floor as he tries to figure out a way to right this wrong. “If you even need to talk about him, about anything…” He trails off. What, Tharin can talk to him? Please, he’s the last person the lad should talk to. Still, he doesn’t know what to say, doesn’t know how to make this right. So instead he says nothing as he continues to stare at the cold hard floor.

Tharin looked right at him. "You're sorry he died? Are you serious? The day I heard the news was one of the happiest days of my life." Tharin couldn't contain himself and began pacing, "I thought that you, one of the smartest men I know, could have been able to see through him. The 'great' Arnold Drake was nothing more than a bully and tormentor. He fooled everyone, but I had expected more from you. I expected you to see the truth. I know what happened the day he died. It's obvious. He said his friends had a little something planned for you, so I insisted that he went too. I knew you would have outwitted him and shown him how stupid he truly was. When I heard you were the only one to survive I laughed, I knew whatever idiocy they had planned had backfired probably worse than they expected. I just would have thought someone as smart as you would have figured it out." Tharin stopped pacing and looked the professor in the eye, "I guess I was wrong though." Tharin looked away and ran his hand through his hair. How did today, what was supposed to be one of the best days, come down to this?

"You're sorry he died? Are you serious? The day I heard the news was one of the happiest days of my life." Wait, what? Happy? Happy his dad died? Nicks head shoots up as Tharin begins to pace. "I thought that you, one of the smartest men I know, could have been able to see through him.” Smart? Tharin thinks he’s smart. That’s news to Nick, though he supposes it is normal for students to look up to teachers. “The 'great' Arnold Drake was nothing more than a bully and tormentor.” Wait, no. Had Arnold actually… had he hurt Tharin? “He fooled everyone, but I had expected more from you. I expected you to see the truth.” It pains him now to know that he hadn’t seen before. The man had been hurting his son this whole time and Nick hadn’t seen it. The lad had be going to Hogwarts for five years with his father still alive and no one had seen it. Nick feels terrible. He feels guilt and pain and suddenly he’s hoping he doesn’t throw up. “I know what happened the day he died. It's obvious.” What? No. It’s impossible. Tharin can’t know what happened, can he? “He said his friends had a little something planned for you, so I insisted that he went too.” Tharin had known? Tharin had known they were going to try to do something and Nick feels a bit mad about that. Why on earth hadn’t he told anyone? “I knew you would have outwitted him and shown him how stupid he truly was.” Oh. That explains a bit but Tharin is wrong, dead wrong because they almost succeeded in those mines. They died but the almost succeeded and Nick knows that he was the only one who was stupid in that horrid place. “When I heard you were the only one to survive I laughed, I knew whatever idiocy they had planned had backfired probably worse than they expected.” Backfired? Yes, he supposes in a way it did. Only, in a way it succeeded more than they could have hoped. “I just would have thought someone as smart as you would have figured it out." Tharin stops pacing as Nick tries to take it all in, tries to breathe and figure it all out. "I guess I was wrong though." Tharin looks away and runs his hand through his hair and Nick tries to figure out what to say to him. How on Earth does one go about explaining this?
He finds that his whole body is shaking now, not just his hands and he tries to steady himself, tries to breathe deeply instead of the short shallow breaths that are threatening to take over. “Tharin, I…” He stops, refocuses. How does he say this? “I knew your father was a bully. I saw it.” He’s looking at the ground again as he tries to think of what to say and how to say it. “I knew your father was a bully Tharin I did, but gods Tharin, I had no clue he’d done anything to you. If I had, I’d have… I’m just… I…” He can’t think, he can’t talk. He’s trying so hard but he’s just shutting down because he doesn’t know what he can say to Tharin. He doesn’t know what he can do to make up for not noticing; he doesn’t know how to say what happened on the expedition. He just doesn’t know anymore and he can’t do this. Too many emotions start to overwhelm him and he just can’t. He shift back, away from Tharin, finding the closest wall and leaning against it to stay upright. He will not break down. He won’t.

“Tharin, I…” Professor McCormick started, “I knew your father was a bully. I saw it.” Tharin doubted it, but still wanted to believe the man in front of him. “I knew your father was a bully Tharin I did, but gods Tharin, I had no clue he’d done anything to you. If I had, I’d have… I’m just… I…”
Tharin took a deep breath and clenched his fists. "I believe you Professor McCormick." Then Tharin looked at him. The man wasn't doing well. In fact, he looked close to passing out or puking. "Professor? Are you alright? It's not your fault you couldn't see what he had done to me. I had just hoped you had seen what he was truly like. No one knew what he did in our home. Magic has a way of hiding the physical." Tharin pulled open the professor's robe and began fanning him. "It's okay, Professor McCormick. Really it is. I've just had that bottled up and it all came out with horrible timing. Professor?"

"I believe you Professor McCormick." The words barely register as the tone of voice prevails. It’s too close to Arnold’s voice, too close. "Professor? Are you alright?” It’s mocking, condescending, sneering. “It's not your fault you couldn't see what he had done to me. I had just hoped you had seen what he was truly like. No one knew what he did in our home. Magic has a way of hiding the physical." No, not condescending, actually concerned. He shakes his head, trying to pull himself back to the present instead of the past. He pushes past the musty smell and the feel of blood as he tries to focus on Tharin’s face. That doesn’t help. He looks too close to his father. And then he’s being touched, his robe opened and he freezes in place. It takes him a second to realize he is being fanned, just being fanned. "It's okay, Professor McCormick. Really it is. I've just had that bottled up and it all came out with horrible timing. Professor?" He pulls himself up more, taking more of his weight and not forcing the wall to bear it.
“No, it’s fine,” he says, forcing himself to take some deep breathes. “I’m fine.” Tharin needs him. He can relive terrifying memories and things later. “No time is a bad time. I just…” he tries to think of an excuse. “It’s just that I still haven’t recovered from Peeves,” he lies. Who would have known his run in with the poltergeist would be so helpful? “But if you need to talk, now or later, I’ll be here for you.” Really, it’s the least he can do after everything.

“No, it’s fine,” Professor McCormick's eyes finally focused and he took slow, deep breaths. “I’m fine. No time is a bad time. I just…” The professor paused, “It’s just that I still haven’t recovered from Peeves,” The lie was obvious, but Tharin just nodded “But if you need to talk, now or later, I’ll be here for you.”
"I think I'll be okay now Professor McCormick. I hope whatever Peeves has done to you will pass soon so that you feel better. I hope the same goes for me too." Tharin just looked at his professor, hoping that he saw that Tharin understood.
Tharin walked over to the door and peeked into the great hall. Some of the professors looked around anxiously, but the Sorting Hat just started singing,
"A thousand years or more ago
,
When I was newly sewn,
There lived four wizards of renown,
Whose names are still well known..."
Tharin looked back at Professor McCormick; he still didn't look too well.
"Uhm, Professor, Headmaster Ogden isn't in the great hall and the Sorting Hat doesn't seem to care. Perhaps you should go find him." Tharin hoped Professor McCormick would appreciate the escape.

Tharin knows full well he’s not talking about Peeves though he hopes that the lad has no idea just what did happen in the ruins. And then the sorting hat is singing and he realizes with a jolt just how late he is. This isn’t very good at all.
"Uhm, Professor, Headmaster Ogden isn't in the great hall and the Sorting Hat doesn't seem to care. Perhaps you should go find him." What? The headmaster isn’t there yet either? Hum. Should he find him? Nick is already late enough as it is and surly the headmaster is keeping track of the time. He doesn’t need to track the man down. But then, the problem with the new student is something the headmaster should be made aware of as quickly as possible. She keeps lying and trying to get out of her problems instead of owning up to them, and getting in a fight is no small thing. Those things combined probably necessitate the headmaster’s personal attention.
“Good idea Tharin,” he says as he thinks of the best way to find the man, readjusting his robes so they are back in place. “Radbey, do you have a minute?” Just like that the house elf appears. They can tell what is going on in the castle if they choose. It’s how they avoid being seen by students when they clean. And Radbey always pays close attention to Nick so he had known the house elf would hear him.
“Master McCormick,” he greets, using Nick’s last name since he knows Nick doesn’t want others to know he goes by that nickname.
“Radbey, can you locate Headmaster Ogden?”
“Yes sir,” the house elf informs him. “Right this way sir.” Nick nods, then turns to Tharin.
“Why don’t you go take your seat? We’re both late enough as it is.” He cringes a bit, realizing that he’ll have to walk to his seat in front of the whole school. He sighs. This is why he makes an effort to get there early. Well, he supposes it can’t work every year.

“Good idea Tharin,” The professor didn't seem to appreciate the chance to not attend the ceremony. He readjusted his robes as if putting a mask back on before asking, “Radbey, do you have a minute?"
A house elf suddenly appeared, "Master McCormick,” Who knew Professor McCormick was close with the house elves?
“Radbey, can you locate Headmaster Ogden?”
“Yes sir,” the house elf informed him. “Right this way sir.” Nick nodded, then turned to Tharin.
“Why don’t you go take your seat? We’re both late enough as it is.” He cringed a bit, and sighed before following the house elf into the Great Hall.
I wonder what my father and his friends did to him in those tunnels before he stopped them.. If it was anything like what my father did to me then no wonder he had a break down as well. At least he didn't ask about Arizona--Miss Carson.. I'm late enough as it is. I better take my seat soon. I'll talk to Ariz--Miss Carson about the train incident after the ceremony.

*Gwen, Oliver, Drew and Carter enter from Hogsmeade Station*
Gwen sighed as they entered the castle, not believing for one second that Oliver was as well as he insisted. But they were later than she had expected. Singing from the Sorting Hat was already filling Hogwarts' entrance hall and it was more than likely that Madame Ellis was already seated at the teachers' table. They would just have to wait until the ceremony was completed 'lest they really make a scene and she weren't ready for that. Not until she and Oliver had a chance to talk about what really happened outside that carriage.
The barns still looked at her expectantly. "We'll all go to into the Great Hall. If Oliver says that he can make it, we may as well 'ave a good time. I don't know about ye, but I'm right clemmed." She ruffled Drew's hair, drawing him closer while they approached the door to the feast. Her voice dropped for his ears only, "Look, ye mun go sit with yer 'ouse but don't ye worry. She wain't moither ye. Not with all those teachers about. An' I'll be there the 'ole time."

The sorting hat is already singing by the time they enter the school. I looks like getting the nurse was out of the question. Drew turned to Gwen, wondering what to do. "We'll all go to into the Great Hall. If Oliver says that he can make it, we may as well 'ave a good time. I don't know about ye, but I'm right clemmed." He feels panic rising even as she ruffles his hair and draws him close. "Look, ye mun go sit with yer 'ouse but don't ye worry. She wain't moither ye. Not with all those teachers about. An' I'll be there the 'ole time." It doesn't matter that she can't bother him. What matters is he's scared and he wants to stay with his sister and best friend, not go over with the others. But he's a Gryffindor. He's supposed to be brave, not scared. It doesn't matter how much he wants his sister. He can be brave and go sit with his house.
"I'll be fine Gwen," he says, pulling away. He needs to be strong and brave, not clinging to his sister. So with that he walks into the great hall towards his table, pretending that the looks the others give him don't bother him. He's a Gryffindor and thus he's not scared of anything. He can do this on his own. He will be brave.

It was best not to scare Drew or Carter with what they had been through and as Gwen backed him up, Oliver put on some bravado just to get himself through the haze that still clung to his head. "That old hat will be all the distraction we need to take our seats... And get our piece of that feast." He finished as he smiled down at Carter before the lad followed his friend into the Great Hall.
"Thanks for that. Though I do think I'll be okay I suppose." The boy said when he was alone with Gwen. "Any chance you know some kind of spell to shrink a tray down to size?" He adjusted his thumb and index finger to a manageable proportion. "I hate to keep bringing Jake such boring selections just because I can't fit more to last him." He kept his voice low as the two Ravenclaws passed into the throng beyond the two large doors that had stood in front of them.

***Anya enters from Great Hall (antechamber room door)***
Finding herself on a second floor, she peaked over the balcony to the floor below. Satisfied it was deserted, she took the stairs down. Anya wandered the Entrance area, admiring the stone knights perched in archways along the walls. As she moved past them, she thought she heard the sound of stone dragging along stone and quickly turned, alert and ready to defend herself but saw no one. Relaxing a bit but still on guard, her eyes went back to the knights whose heads were turned toward her. "Weren't those things' heads facing forward before?" she wondered as she rubbed at the goosebumps on her arms.
She frowned. Maybe it was a magic thing again but this one was kind of creepy, especially when one thought one was alone. Wanting to be alone, needing to think about all these new things finally crushing in on her mind, she headed for the massive front door. Anya gave it a pull but it didn't budge. Whether it was because it was locked or the door was just so bloody huge, she didn't know. She tried again, pulling with all her might and finally demanded, "Open." With her palm tingling, the door finally gave gave way, its groan of protest echoing in the empty entrance hall. She opened it only enough to slip through to the outside, leaving it ajar both to make it easier to get back in and to avoid making any additional noise with the ridiculously massive hunk of wood on ancient hinges.

***Enters from Great Hall***
He sighs in releif in the relative solitude of the entrance hall. He feels like he can finally breathe. Though these robes feel trapping; suffocating. Everything magical does actually. Which means he doesn't want to go back to his office just yet. As simple as he tries to keep it, he is a teacher at a school of magic. There is magic there. Not that he can escape magic entirly. He almost always has his wand. But that is different. That is protection. And it's also helpful.
He takes out his wand, using magic to replace his robes with a white button up shirt and jeans. He sighs happily. He'll have to change back before he talks to Tharin, and certainly before he talks to the headmaster, but for now this is perfect. So, where to go. He has many nooks and crannies all over the place that he knows of. He could find that secret corner in the library. But no. He doesn't want to be surrounded by magical books. Outside? Probably not the best idea at the moment. Though the roof of the Astronomy tower seems particularly...
The door is open. That is not supposed to be open. He grips his wand, instinctively crouching slightly. Attackers. Okay. He could be overreacting. He probably is. But better that than not being prepared. He reminds himself of the spell he can use to contact the other teachers before setting of to investigate. It could be nothing. But he is ready in case it's not.
