SUCH a great episode!  I almost gave it a 5 but then I remembered that there are a lot that are even better than this so I went with a 4.

Couple of fun facts: The girl at the beginning of Sawyer's first flashback is Harold Perrineau's (Michael's) wife in real life.  Gotta be awkward to be making out with the spouse of your fellow actor, lol!  Secondly, "Once Upon a Time," like other projects from J.J. Abrams and the writers who came from "Lost" like to sneak in little winks to "Lost."  Not sure if you guys remember how excitable I got back in one of Emma's flashbacks with Neil when they were talking about settling down and set their sights on Tampa.  Immediately in my mind, I replied with "What could possibly make us even for the Tampa job?"  Lol!

I do wonder though, what was the Tampa job?  It's obvious Hibbs had messed up the job or maybe even screwed Sawyer over.  After the way it ended, I'm thinking it was more along the lines that Hibbs screwed James over.  And yay, we finally get to hear Sawyer's real name!  I've been having to remind myself to be careful and not say it.  James "Sawyer" Ford.  Usually I refer to him as Sawyer anyway but there are times I sometimes say James.

That opening flashback with Sawyer as a kid?  Wow, that was so sad and so intense.  No wonder Sawyer is so angry and messed up.  Can you imagine being that little kid hiding under the bed as your father kills your mother and then himself, right there above you on your own bed?  I wonder if someone had heard the shots or if little James had to be the one to crawl out and find someone.  I'm hoping someone had heard the shots and he stayed there until help came.  It's better than imagining him actually seeing the bloodied corpses of his parents.

The whole Sawyer vs. Boar scenes were hilarious!  I love how everyone has this twinkle in their eye and this smirk on their face when they go and ask him about it.  It's so refreshing for them to be able to laugh at Sawyer about something after the way he's treated and talked to everyone.  He kinda deserves it and the whole thing helps to humanize him.  If you don't take the bad guy (or semi-bad guy) down a peg every now and again, you're in danger of losing whatever sympathy you've gained for the character.

Omg, the whispering in the jungle at night is SO creepy!  It was nighttime (or just about) when Sayid had heard the whispering.  Remind me to NEVER go into the jungle at night.  What does it mean and does it only happen at night?  Who is whispering and how do they know to say the exact same thing that happened to be Frank's last words?  Is it these Others Danielle was speaking of our something supernatural?

I really love Locke's stories.  They always have this funny twist where you think he's trying to tell you one thing (that his foster sister came back as a dog to make his foster stop blaming herself) and when Kate points it out, says that that's just silly.  He's right though.  On one hand, it can sound silly but on the other, it can be this random, symbolic thing that may or may not have showed up on purpose but served this really important purpose.

Yay, we have our first really big character path crossing!  Jack's dad, Christian, had met Sawyer at a bar in Sydney.  Remember how when Jack went to his dad's room and saw that his dad had left his wallet in the room?  Well, here, we have Christian asking to Sawyer to spot him because he's forgotten his wallet.  So that means this occurred close to the time Jack was looking for him which means that Christian probably died soon after he met Sawyer and maybe even because Sawyer had had the bartender leave the whole bottle for them.  In my mind, I picture that Sawyer left shortly after Christian basically encouraged him to do this business he came to Australia to do and Christian drank himself to death.  Very tragic on both accounts.  Christian unknowingly encouraged Sawyer to kill a man--the wrong man, no less-- and Sawyer may have been the one to lead Christian to his death.

I really loved the ending and that look on Sawyer's face when Jack says "That's why the Sox will never win the series."  That look of realization dawning on him.  That "holy shit!" moment that the guy you've been butting heads with while stranded on a desert island is the son of the guy you'd been drinking with at a bar.  What a small world.  I remember yelling "TELL HIM!!!" at Sawyer through the TV.  Alas, he has to be his douchebag self and not tell Jack the words Christian was too weak to say to his son himself.

So to clear up this whole Sox winning the series, when this episode aired, the Sox had never won the series.  I believe it was somewhere around when season 3 was airing that the Red Sox really DID win the series which was a fun twist but for now, keep in mind, the Sox had never won.  Well, never or not for a really, really long time.  I'm not sure which it was but we get the point.

Sawyer: You enjoying yourself?
Sayid:  Yes.

The whole "I never" scene had great parts!
Sawyer:  I never been to Disneyland.  [Kate doesn't drink.]  Ah, that's just sad.

Kate: I never had a one night stand.  Bottoms up, sailor.
Sawyer:  I've gotta drink for each one?

Sawyer:  Ah, son of a-- peed on my shirt!  Took my shirt out of the bag and peed on it!

After Locke tells the story of his foster sister's death and the dog that showed up
Kate:  So you're saying the dog was your sister?
Locke:  Well, that would be silly.

Sayid:  You're not alone.  Don't pretend to be.

Frank:  It'll come back around.

Christian and later Jack:  That's why the socks will never win the series.

5 STARS, 5 STARS!! There are even better episodes, Heidi? Oh, then there will be some more SKATE episodes?
And in germany the title is exactly the same. I just wonder why sometimes they don't translate and sometimes they do or even change the whole title...

As for the fun facts: I like when they are doing that, let persons, who are connected to the actors in real life, appear in a show/movie. It's even funnier, when these person's roles are something like the opposite they actually are. For example in King Of Queens Kevin Jame's wife appears at the show as Carry's manicurist and in one episode Doug and Carrie are talking about a list of three persons they would be allowed for cheating (actually famous persons, who they already wouldn't meet probably). And Carry's manicurist is on Doug's list. Ok, I know this has nothing to do with Lost, but I just liked to tell. Back to Lost, and back to one of the best episodes so far!

Omg, I felt so sad for little Sawyer! Well, we heard about his story already in his letter, he once read to Kate, but it's different to see that story with your own eyes. Poor boy.

Yah, the Sawyer vs. Boar was really funny! Haha and how he called the Boar "Son of a bitch". xD Like it actually was human and had fun to fight Sawyer lol.

I like the whispering in the jungle scenes! I do like creepy scenes like that!

Agree about Locke's stories! It was btw funny how Kate and Saywer were looking at him, while he was talking. As they both wanted to say something like: "Why the hell is he telling us this?" xD

Man, I was totally surprised and flashed at the ending, when Sawyer found out that the man he once met in the bar was Jack's father. You know what? I didn't realize that on my own before! O.o Yah, I just didn't recognize Christian's face and above all wasn't awaiting his face, so I just didn't remembered him. But my bad memory made this scene extremly awesome and surprising to me! I truely was looking the same way as Sawyer lol! Funny btw, how Sawyer threatened Jack with the gun, only out of fun.
And yes, the connections in Lost are amazing so far! Very tragical the story of Jack and his father. And when I knew it was him talking to Sawyer in that bar, I started to feel sorry for him, even if he was a total asshole to his son before. But doesn't everybody deserves a second chance?

During this episode I found it really funny how Sayid started to tease Sawyer btw!

I think the scene, in which Sawyer was at the shrimps-seller's car, was very creepy looking at Sawyer's face. His whole pain was readable on it and how he shivered. He wanted this guy to pay for what he did, but deep inside he feared to kill someone. But to be honest, I knew right from the beginning, that it wouldn't be the right guy. And so I was relieved, when Sawyer drove away without killing him. But then, in the end, poor Sawyer...
Btw did you realize, that one sentence in the whispering Sawyer heard, was :"It'll come back around"? The same sentence the shrimps-seller said to him before he died.

Lol, yes, when Locke was telling the story, Kate and Sawyer exchanged that "Is he for real?" look.  That's why I especially loved when Locke said "Now that would be silly" when Kate was like, "so the dog was your sister?"

Me too!  The writers do such an amazing job with character development that you actually start to sympathize and really feel for characters you had totally just hated.

Agreed!  Josh Holloway did an amazing job on that scene.  He looked pissed off and scary mixed with this heart wrenching pain.


But to be honest, I knew right from the beginning, that it wouldn't be the right guy.

I'm trying to remember back to when I first saw this ep and I don't think I figured it was the wrong guy.  I thought there might be something off but the way he answered James' questions and the skeevy way he said he likes those Southern women made me think maybe he was but that he wasn't as much of a badass as we'd expected.  I think I got the feeling he was a conman who wasn't necessarily totally heartless and the best at what he did and that maybe he quit because of what had happened with James' parents.  Lol, it was forever ago so I don't remember exactly what my first impression was.

Yes, I did realize that!!  That was a huge WTF moment!  There's something more to those whispers.  I mean, they assume it's the Others but how do the Others know the last words of the guy James killed?  Either they were somehow there or they can read his thoughts or James just hallucinated hearing those words.
