5 out of 5 from me!
The sweat lodge airport hallucination was just amazing! So well done and so much meaning in the little things said by Boone about each of the characters as Locke pointed them out. Speaking of; BOONE!! It was so great to see him again! I love that even after a character has passed, this show has a way of showing them, whether it be by hallucination or dream or in someone's flashback.
I'm glad to see Charlie back to his lighter, funnier, snarkier self. He went pretty dark in season 2. I was also glad to see all the other survivors! Only two episodes where we didn't get to see them all and I totally missed them. When the show was still airing, it was also a torturous wait to find out what happened to the people who'd been in the hatch. We had to wait the whole summer for the Fall season to start again and then had to wait through two episodes before we finally got to see.
Miraculously, everyone who'd been in the hatch survived the implosion. They each seemed to have different results. Mr. Eko was dragged off by a polar bear and I'm not sure if he was unconscious because of the implosion or if being attacked by the polar bear rendered him unconscious. Locke was mute and didn't regain his voice until after he "spoke with the island". Desmond had his clothes blown off in the implosion (lol, and gee darn
) and seemingly can see the future??? The fact that he spoke about Locke's speech that didn't happen and then at the end, Locke makes that speech totally blew my mind the first time I saw it! Was it a fluke? Can Desmond see the future? If so, is it temporary like Locke's muteness was? And how adorable did he look in that huge t-shirt?
Locke seems to have a strong connection to the island. It seems like it's been awhile since we've seen that but his time in the sweat lodge really showed a strong connection. His hallucination mentioned so many of the characters and what they were currently going through, not to mention it showed him exactly where he could find Mr. Eko. That's amazing. Maybe it's his tracking kills that led him to the location but he did know that Eko was dragged off by a polar bear. That's alone is really specific.
We got our first glimpse of two newcomers, Nikki and Paulo, who were instantly despised by all viewers, myself included. They were that younger couple, the girl who yelled at Hurley asking why he didn't mention Jack was missing sooner. Um, hello?? Hurley JUST got there. Ugh, I really hate those two characters and it's such a big thing in the Lost fan crowd that they are despised. It's not the fault of the writers though. What happened was that the writers new when they wanted Lost to end. They had things mapped out but Lost was such a huge hit that ABC wanted them to stretch it out as much as possible, which meant having to introduce new characters so they went about devising a plan to take what had been other background survivors and bring them to the forefront. Those two actors were never in the show. We never saw them wandering around in the background or in any other way. It's understandable that we may not have seen or paid much attention to the background survivors but even still, that wasn't the real complaint about them. Unfortunately, Nikki and Paulo were absolutely despised and you'll see why over the next few episodes. I've yet to meet anyone who didn't despise them so I'm sure we can complain about them in future discussion threads, lol!
Locke's flashbacks continue to give me more and more to pity him about. His past is filled with tragic events. Just when he seems to find a piece of happiness, it's wretched out from under him in a horrible way. It all seems to hinge on his father in a way. For this instance, it's his daddy issue that led him to losing Helen, which led him to strike out and luckily, he came across this community of people whom he ended up considering his family. Then the cops use his past issues with his father to their advantage, knowing he'd be the perfect one to fool into helping them get the information they need, leading him to lose his new family.
I'm glad that Locke didn't end up shooting Eddie in the flashback. Just because he didn't doesn't make him a farmer instead of a hunter. I think we've all seen that Locke is quite the hunter.
Favorite moments and quotesCharlie: What, you can't speak John? You're mute? [Locke nods] I am sorry about that. So where are Eko and Desmond? Are they off being mute and building structures, as well?
Charlie: You need to speak to the sand? [Locke gestures toward the tree line] Trees? Yeah, I've heard they're wonderful conversationalists.
Charlie: You're not taking drugs are you, John? I only ask because of the strict zero tolerance policy you've enacted, and I wouldn't want you to have to start punching yourself in the face.
[Locke grabs a can of hairspray and puts it in his pocket]
Charlie: Hairspray? Now, I hate to be the one to point this out to you...
Desmond: You alone, brother?
Hurley: Uh, yeah.
[Desmond stands up and Hurley sees that Desmond's naked.]
Hurley: Whoa! Dude! I'm not alone.
Desmond: Can you get me some clothes?
Hurley: What happened to yours?
Desmond: I woke up in the jungle like this.
Hurley: So, like, the hatch blew off your underwear?
