Mornings.
They hadn't been Draco Malfoy's particular favourite time of day as a boy growing up. However, the older he got and the more life experiences he took on, the more he came to appreciate the little things about mornings. Such as being involved in the growing up of his sons, knowing what their favourite breakfasts were and getting to know their morning wake up routines. Sometimes he had been up early enough to deal with paperwork, that he had the pleasure of enjoying a hot cup of earl grey while watching the colourful sunrises right from his office window. Though, his favourite of all was waking up to his beautiful wife, Astoria, each and every day. The morning rays poured through the small openings of the curtains and graced their bedroom as a gentle awakening to the new day. Draco slowly awoke from his slumber, opening his eyes. He rolled his head slightly over to Astoria who was also just waking up from her sleep. He couldn't help but smile whole heartedly.
"What are you smiling at?" Astoria asked, bending her elbow onto her pillow she propped her chin upon her hand gracefully.
"I was just thinking about how lucky I am, that I get to wake up next to my beautiful wife each and every morning," Draco commented. He knew that she might think that he sounded silly. But Draco had so much love to give to his family, his wife most importantly.
Astoria bashfully chuckled at the remark, "You're a hopeless romantic, Mr. Malfoy."
"Well I can't help but to be hopelessly in love with you," Draco laughed as he kissed his wife on the forehead before getting out of bed and getting ready for the day. The couple had slept in that day, as their two boys Callum and Scorpius had left on the train just the other day to leave for Hogwarts for the term, expected at home for Christmas in just a few months. A house elf walked in with a tray bearing two cups of tea and morning scones with jam. Grabbing the cups of tea, Astoria slipped on her dark emerald robe of silk as she walked in where Draco was all dressed and fixing his appearance for the day ahead.
"I wonder how the boys are getting along today at school. I hope Scorpius is getting along okay with his new school mates," Astoria wondered out loud as she handed the cup of tea to Draco.
"He's a Malfoy, my love, I'm sure he's already made some new friends by now." Draco said confidently, adding the final touch to his hair before taking a sip of tea.
The next thing that his wife said took Draco back slightly. "Yes, no doubt about that. However, Callum is also a Malfoy and look at what he's done so far. And he's in his sixth year." Astoria raised her eyebrows judgingly as her mouth disappeared into her cup. Callum was the son of Draco's first wife, and although Astoria has looked after Callum and taken him under her wing since marrying into the family, she had always judged him for being not like the rest of the pure-blooded Malfoy clan.
"Now now, dear, some children take time. I'm sure Callum will aspire to great things this year," Draco said promisingly. He had hoped at least, as he had tried to teach Callum the family values and morals to the best of his ability while growing up and had quite frankly grown tired of instilling false hope in the fact that his firstborn would be the successful, power driven Malfoy that Draco had always dreamed for him to be. This year was the year of the Triwizard Tournament, and Callum was now old enough to enter. If Draco's desire comes true that his son's name comes out of the Goblet of Fire this year, his hope within Callum would be fully restored. Draco could only hope for this outcome.
Finishing his cup of tea, Draco picked up the briefcase to the side of the bed. "I'm sorry to be off so quickly, but it is the first day of school afterall. The board will be expecting me, as will Headmaster Ogden. Lots of back to school details to discuss, especially with the other schools arriving at Hogwarts for the Tournament shortly." He hugged and kissed his wife, "I will be home later. Who knows, maybe I'll run into our boys along the way!" Draco smiled as he gently squeezed the hand of his wife. "I love you. See you later for dinner," Draco promised as he left the room and ascended down the stairs to the entrance of the Manor. Stepping outside into the crisp morning air, he apparated within the instant, arriving to his morning of work at the Hogwarts Board of Governors.
