Ororo had been through a great deal since her parent's death, luckily she had been taken in by a kind man who taught her many things. She learned how to fend for herself and it took almost no time at all. She owed so much to Achmed and it broke her heart to lose him. She was ten when he died and once again she was left without a parent, until Amahl and he certainly wasn’t a good man by any means. He wasn’t around for long and once he disappeared, Ororo decided she had enough of Egypt. She decided to follow her mother’s diary and go back to her home where she was born. It took almost a year and she almost died several times but she reached her village and was welcomed with open arms.
Ororo fell into the care of a village elder; Ainet, a witch/Priestess. The woman raised her and taught her right from wrong, guiding her back to the right path; a path that Achmed and Amahl knocked her off of. It took Ororo a bit of time but in the end, she adapted to village life and learned what was acceptable.
Ororo’s powers had been very chaotic, hard to master and control but Ainet helped her and continued to do so. She did her best to keep her powers hidden, worried that the village would consider her a dangerous and make her leave. A couple years later, when Ororo was about fourteen, the land came into a horrible drought. Ororo knew what she had to do and summoned the rains, which lasted for several days. This threw off the balance and made things even worse, Ainet explained how she could remedy this and save them all. The villagers saw this as a sign and proclaimed, Ororo, as a goddess. Ororo was confused, could she really be a goddess? Did she save herself in the desert, did she really make the rain? Or maybe the goddess as working through her? Either way, the people gave her the title of goddess and she was sought all over Kenya.
Ainet taught Ororo everything she knew, how to be a midwife, to distribute medicine, to bless. Ororo had become a powerful healer and loved by many. “You’ve done well, Ororo, I'm so proud of you.” “I wouldn’t be who I am without you, you taught me to be better.” “This is true,” Ainet said with a grin, cleaning up the table in front of her. They had just finished lunch, “I’ll be traveling tomorrow morning, will the goddess accompany me?” “Of course and let me-” Ororo took the bowls from Ainet’s hands and smiled, “I believe the goddess can do her own dishes.” She leaned in and kissed her cheek before heading to the basin. Most days were just like that, just normal. Then some days it was a bit more complicated...
The well had dried up, the ground hard beneath their feet. Something wasn’t right and no matter how much Ororo made it rain, the ground seemed to just absorb it and dry up. It wasn’t until a month later when some kind of demon made itself known. She faced off with it many times but it was clever and she couldn’t do it on her own. She couldn’t protect her people, everything was dying and she needed help.
“Please, if anyone or anything can hear me, I need help. My people and land are dying, something is attacking us and I can not protect them. Please. Come or all will be lost.”

On the search of his true self, Logan had visited a lot of places during the last couple of months. Though at last every journey had ended the same - in a dead end. This time rumors about one very powerful mutant, who was colorably able to travel into someone's mind, had led him into the boondocks of Kenya in the East of Africa. And again it had been a dead-end road. Not even he had to learn that guy couldn't be a help at all, as his telepathic powers recently made him go maniac (Well, there's a narrow path between genius and insanity), also Logan had become involved in an assassination. Someone really had to be screwed up, thinking a haywire old boy, the survival of a once powerful brain, still could be a danger. But then, this wasn't his problem. The old guy was dead anyway and as for himself he just was on sort of a run, after he has slashed one of the offenders in self-defense. On a run with a stolen car. But then, is it stealing when you take a dead man's car?
Eventually Logan didn't see the men inside the rearview mirror anymore. Not that he wouldn't have been able to manage them, but whoever had sent them out, it probably wasn't the wisest to leave a bloodbath. The only one who has seen his face, got a temporary steel implant right through his jaw.
Now that he was no longer in a rush, Logan paid more attention to the dashboard and just now realized something masked with a tape. He removed it with one fast pull, whereupon the red blinking of the check oil indicator light was staring at him. And just like it always happens in a damn movie, the car all of a sudden lowered and with one last groaning came to a halt.
"Fuck!", he swore, bashing his fists at the wheel, already covered in an offensive-smelling smoke. Never drive a mad man's car... Coughing Logan left the car, slamming the door behind, before he leaned towards it with a sigh. Holy shit, where was he? All around the area seemed to be nothing but a dry landscape. Logan searched for his cigars and found one in the inside pocket of his leather jacket. He lit it and took one deep puff, before he felt way more calmed down, though still pretty pissed about being stranded right out in the sticks, most certainly no cabstand or at least some tourists, naive enough to pick up a blood stained man with sideburns.
Just as he was about to take another puff, he suddenly heard a voice, close enough to comprehend words and even to perceive the voice's owner in the distance.
"... Please. Come or all will be lost."
"Hey!", Logan called out for the person, as he came closer. He recognized it as a young woman, standing alone in the middle of the landscape, obviously as lost as he was himself. Actually she even seemed to be much more desperate or just not used to such situations as he was. "You need help?" Even though Logan still wasn't aware of his real being, he totally remembered to have never been kind of a Samaritan. But if there was something he could do to help, maybe she would be able to get him somehow out of here. It was worth a try.

Ororo wasn't that far from her village, she had come out to check on one of the wells and found it dry as the desert. She just couldn't understand it, she would make it full as it could be and just a day later it was dry. The well she could fill easily but the crops needed constant care and it was just a task and tapping her power. Then you had the animals, they had already lost almost half from dehydration and it would eventually have a great effect on the village here. All of this was hard and she was starting to doubt herself, after years of being these people's goddess and she was having doubts. Maybe she wasn't the goddess she thought she was, maybe she was a fraud?
"Hey!", When Ororo called out to the heavens for help, she expected a fellow god but instead, she got some hairy white man? She wondered if this was some kind of cruel joke? "You need help?" her hand went to the knife on her belt but she made no motion to use it. She wasn't sure how this man could help her but she would give him a chance. "I do, but I don't know how you could help me." The heat was making it unbearably hot and she realized this guy was probably in need of some shelter. "Come, we will take refuge at my camp and I will explain everything." She smiled, trying to remember she too needed to be more kind; she was no longer the little girl in Cairo. "My name is Ororo Munroe, I'm one of the many protectors of these lands. Sadly, my powers can do little for the people these days." She led him up a barren hillside and once they reached the top, an entire village could be seen. It was a simple place, livestock, small crops. "Do you have a name?" She gave him a smile and led him down the hillside.

"I do, but I don't know how you could help me."
"Makes two of us then.", Logan responded with a shrug, though he really tried not to show his pleasure about having asked. But then, one good turn deserves another. He just wondered who she did expect to appear? Some kind of godhead?
"Come, we will take refuge at my camp and I will explain everything.", the girl with Mohawk hair suddenly suggested with a smile.
So she actually was living here in the middle of nowhere? Not just in the middle of nowhere, but rather in the fuckin' dry middle of nowhere. "Sounds good.", Logan accepted her invitation, already starting to follow her steps. "I didn't see any no-parking sign around here, so I just let the car parked over there, yah?" Of course that was no real question, so he also didn't expect her to react on that.
"My name is Ororo Munroe, I'm one of the many protectors of these lands. Sadly, my powers can do little for the people these days.", the girl eventually introduced herself, as they almost reached the top of the barren hillside they walked on. "Do you have a name?"
Logan had a look at the village's image down the hillside, as she was speaking. It remembered him of places he had seen in his dreams. Has he been here some day in the past? It seemed he had come around much more as he thought he had. For a moment he drifted off in thoughts, before he suddenly remembered to has been asked a question. "Logan.", he answered tersely, before he took the path down the hillside, leading to the girl's village.
"So, here we are, right?", Logan stopped his steps, not even thinking about taking a rest for a while. "What kind of help do you guys need?", he asked, even though he thought to already know the answer to that, as he looked down the dried out ground.

"Logan." Ororo smiled and continued to lead him down the hillside. When they reached the village, people stopped and stared as they walked deep into the small village. "So, here we are, right? What kind of help do you guys need?" She knew the village wasn't much to an outsider, he was probably used to big cities, she barely remembered the big cities.
Ororo led him to her home, it was a larger hut compared but still modest. "Please come in," She smiled at Ainet once inside. "He is a friend." She could see the uncertain look on her mother's face, "He came to us, help sometimes comes in the weirdest forms; you taught me that." Ainet relaxed before shuffling her way to her chair, keeping an eye on the newcomer.
"So, our troubles..." Ororo offered him a seat and some water, sitting down and waiting until he looked comfortable enough. "Our lands are dry, our cattle are dying and people are starting to get sick. No matter how much I make it rain, the land is dry within hours. Something is happening and I don't know what, I'm at my whits end. People are starting to lose faith in me, calling me a fraud and blaming me for what is happening."

"Please come in,"
Logan did as he was told and followed the young woman into the hut.
"He is a friend."
That was the moment when he realized there was someone already inside. "Evenin', ma'am.", Logan threw in, before Ororo took over the conversation again.
"He came to us, help sometimes comes in the weirdest forms; you taught me that."
Logan let her statement pass without comment, even though he thought a weird instead of the weirdest would have been sufficient. But then, he was still a blood stained stranger in a desert-like landscape. No wonder that the old lady had a wary eye on him.
"So, our troubles...", Ororo lastly came to the point, and so got his attention back. Logan listened intently. How much she made it rain? So she was a mutant too. "Unless there is not a someone causing that and can be kicked in his ass, I don't know how to actually help you with that." That was just the truth. And as she lived here in the middle of nowhere, she didn't seem to be able to help him either.

"Unless there is not a someone causing that and can be kicked in his ass, I don't know how to actually help you with that."
"Something is happening and if it's not a who, it could possibly be a what." Ororo couldn't begin to understand what was happening at all. She had no idea if this was something supernatural or natural and she needed help. "As I said, I am at a loss, Mr. Logan."

"Something is happening and if it's not a who, it could possibly be a what."
A what should have got something to kick at as well, Logan thought in silence. But this might not be the right time for discussions anyway. He felt the instancy of their situation, and also, he was stuck in here anyway.
"As I said, I am at a loss, Mr. Logan."
For a moment Logan was just standing there, frowning, before he suddenly asked: "Is there any other hint you're dealin' with a who or a what? Someone around the village may have seen somethin' unusual except for the landscape drying out." And before Ororo could have reacted on that, he added: "And it's just Logan." Not that this addition would have been really important, but to get called Mr. Logan made him feel being older than he was. Or more precisely: older than he thought he was.

"Is there any other hint you're dealin' with a who or a what? Someone around the village may have seen somethin' unusual except for the landscape drying out...And it's just Logan."
"Of course, Logan, and no one come forward but I will ask around, sometimes it takes a bit more prodding." She would have to go out and ask them all again, someone had to see something, even if it was absurd to them. Her powers had never failed her so hard, not like this, but everything seemed to be crashing down around her.
Closing her eyes, she took a calming breath, she needed to keep her cool. "Thank you," She said quickly, "For everything," He hadn't even done anything yet, but she felt the need to say it now.

"Of course, Logan, and no one come forward but I will ask around, sometimes it takes a bit more prodding."
Oh god, how glad he was, she didn't wanted him to take on that job. Asking around was not exactly his strength.
"Thank you," Logan gave her a short reassuring smile. "For everything,"
"You can thank me, when that life-absorbing bastard is shot." Never mind who or what it was supposed to be: it was doomed to die anyway. And after that he maybe would find someone helping him with the jalopy out there, though he somehow doubted these people had a spare parts depot. He already blamed himself for it, but asked despite. "Is there somethin' I can do to help right now?"

"You can thank me, when that life-absorbing bastard is shot." Ororo heard similar words used before, though this might be thew first time she agreed with the context. Whoever or whatever was doing this, they needed to be put down and quickly. "Is there somethin' I can do to help right now?"
Ainet cleared her throat and smiled, "I think we can find you something to do." She had been sitting idle the whole time, just watching. She walked over to him and took his hand, "I'm Ainet, let's see if we can find someone to fix your car." She gave it a pat before crooking her finger for him to follow.
Ororo just smiled and nodded her head, "I'll go do some poking around, she'll take care of you."

"I think we can find you something to do.", the older lady's sudden voice made him turn around, before she walked over, taking his hand. "I'm Ainet, let's see if we can find someone to fix your car."
"She's to my liking.", Logan interposed to Ororo, while giving Ainet's hand a quick squeeze, hopefully not too rough. They didn't seem to often have guests around he concluded from her assumption with the car. Well, didn't exactly look like the Caribbean here.
"I'll go do some poking around, she'll take care of you."
Logan gave Ororo a quick nod, before silently complying with Ainet's invitation to follow her, waiting for her to reveal what would be his job.

The older woman walked to the edge of the village and found an older gentleman, she started to speak to him in another language. She exchanged a couple things with him and smiled, "This Bo', he'll bring your car into the village. He says thank you for coming to help."
Ororo had started to ask around once again, trying to see if her people had any idea what was happening. "Please, anything at all? Even if it seems silly, I will not laugh." "Shadow," She looked over to see a small girl, hiding behind her mother's skirt. "Shadow," She sat down on the ground and held out her arms for the girl. "Do not be afraid, come, tell me." The girl made her way over and nervously sat on Ororo's lap and told her everything.
"On the dunes, I saw a shadow. But not like ours, it moved like a person. It stood up and I couldn't see through it. He came into the village before, I saw him- I'm sorry." "Do not be sorry, you were scared and it's okay to be scared. Something is among us, let's just hope we can get to it before more damage is done."

Logan wordless followed Ainet outside. She was speaking to an older gentleman in a language he didn't understand and was pretty sure never has heard, before she turned to him once more.
"This Bo', he'll bring your car into the village. He says thank you for coming to help."
"Logan.", he greeted in the man's direction, reaching out a hand to officially say hello. Kindness was the least he could offer for now. "Let's see what I can do in return."
He threw another look around the village. The people really seemed to be out of strength, as the water ran low. And still everyone had a smile on their face. Not exactly a smile, but satisfaction. They loved their village and their modest life. Logan let out an inward sigh. He hasn't found that one place to call home yet. If he ever will?
"Can I do somethin' till your daughter comes back?", he eventually asked the old lady next to him. Again a question out of courtesy, but this time he didn't blame himself for asking it.

"Logan," Bo nodded his head and whistled, waving a couple of his sons over. He spoke to them for a minute before they started to get things ready to retrieve the car.
"Let's see what I can do in return." Ainet smiled and turned to Bo and continued to talk to him for a second.
"Oh no, you have done enough." Ainet grinned, "Ororo will be back shortly and I bet she will have something for you. Why don't you come help me with delivery's." She handed him the basket, it was a bit heavy.

"Oh no, you have done enough.""Ororo will be back shortly and I bet she will have something for you. Why don't you come help me with delivery's."
Logan nodded in return, before he took the delivery's from Ainet, not looking like there would be anything of heavy weight in it at all.
They walked in silence for a while, Logan letting the old lady leading the way, as he broke the silence at last. "Ororo... she was talkin' about powers and her role of bein' a protector. I don't mean to offend you... It's just that there are some assholes hunting people like her." '...and me.', he added in thoughts. Logan just wondered if these people could be truely hillbilly enough to not have caught what happened outside of their little community. But if so, they had to be informed at least. He wouldn't wish on anyone to get in their hands. So he felt the need to broach this as an act of loyalty.

Ainet
Ainet stopped and turned to look at Logan, she sighed. "Ororo believes she is a goddess, many of these people think she is a goddess but we know better." She placed a hand on his arm, "She does deserve to know the truth and maybe one day she will. She is just trying to do right by us, I think in some way she knows but she is fearful of what everyone will think of her."
Ororo
When Ororo gathered all the information she searched around for any other clues. She made her way to Ainet and Logan and smiled when she saw them on the opposite side of the village. "Putting him to work I see?" She smiled.

A goddess. Well, kinda sounded nicer than mutant, didn't it? But gods or mutants, no matter how they would call themself, they probably always will remain the haunted.
Logan turned to the old woman again, when he felt her hand on his arm. He noticed the lines of worry upon her forehead, as she spoke. Logan just wondered if Ainet or any of the other villagers were fully aware of the truth. "Has she ever met another... someone like her?", he suddenly asked, even though he thought to already know the answer to that.
Just as Ainet was looking like taking breath for a response, Ororo approached them from the distance, breaking in their little private talk.
"Putting him to work I see?"
"Found anythin' out?", Logan addressed the younger woman.

"Has she ever met another... someone like her?" Ainet was about to answer but Ororo was making her way closer and she instead closed her mouth and smiled.
"Putting him to work I see?" Ainet waved her hand at Ororo and chuckled.
"Found anythin' out?"
"A young girl said she saw a shadow that walked like a man. It came into the village, sucking up the ground. Whatever it is, it's feeding on this land and it must be stopped. I can only imagine it is living close by, I think we need to search for it."

"I can imagine only one thing to make a shadow visible." Ororo could see where he was going with this, she only knew of one thing that could make shadow- light.
"Perhaps some kind of light source could cast this shadow into the light?" She smiled, "Maybe we should light some torches, keep things burning to easily spot the creature?"

"Perhaps some kind of light source could cast this shadow into the light?""Maybe we should light some torches, keep things burning to easily spot the creature?"
Logan didn't exactly return her smile, but he was thankful for her cleverness. So now they maybe had found a possibility to make their enemy visible, but how to defeat it? Logan wondered, if they really were dealing with something like a shadow literal, or instead with a mutant being. He doubted that any of the townspeople have ever heard of his kind. Well, any but the old lady. Logan threw one casual look in her direction before he turned his attention back to Ororo.
"You've mentioned powers before. You don't have to tell me what those are, but do ya think they can be someway helpful in a fight?" He was sure a fight was unavoidable and unsure if, whatever they had to deal with, his powers all alone would be sufficient.

"You've mentioned powers before. You don't have to tell me what those are, but do ya think they can be someway helpful in a fight?" Ororo wasn't sure if she could make this better but she wondered, could her powers be used against this shadow? Now that she knew it was a shadow, could see use that to stop him?
"I have the power over the weather, the sky is mine to command. I bring the rain my people need, I can also call upon thunder and lighting." Yet she was so much more, she had no idea of her full potential. "Since we know it needs water, I could call upon the rains in a particular part- maybe it will come to it?"

Logan gave her a quick commendatory look. To have power over the weather was not what he had expected to be honest. This could actually be pretty much useful in a fight against a shadow being.
"Since we know it needs water, I could call upon the rains in a particular part- maybe it will come to it?"
"So, we basically can up with a lot of rain and light.", Logan thought loudly. A storm, so to speak. "It's worth a try."

"So, we basically can up with a lot of rain and light. It's worth a try." Ororo wanted to make this work and she hoped doing this wouldn't piss off the shadow thing. The last thing she needed was to make things worse, all she wanted was her people to be safe, happy, and healthy.
"I believe this is a good place to start, I will have the village ready the torches." Ainet smiled and took hold of the basket she made Logan carry and walked away with ease. It seemed like she didn't need any help with it at all and Ororo sighed.
"I told the people to finish with their tasks as fast as they can. They will all be inside and as the rain falls, the shadow will come and maybe he'll leave his tracks for us to follow?" Ororo didn't know how they would beat a shadow, if they could not touch him how could they stop him?

"I believe this is a good place to start, I will have the village ready the torches.", Ainet stated with a smile and took the basket back from him. In the first moment Logan was going to serve her a helping hand with the transfer, but when he noticed the old lady actually needing no help, he sent her a slight smile in return. In fact, this village wasn't as helpless as it seemed. Especially not with someone like Ororo among them, he thought with one look back in her direction.
"I told the people to finish with their tasks as fast as they can. They will all be inside and as the rain falls, the shadow will come and maybe he'll leave his tracks for us to follow?"
Logan gave her a stern nod. "Then let's hope this thing's stupid enough to show up materialized, if possible even. And if, I'll be here to spear it." He raised his right hand clenched to a fist, knowing the weapon hidden within. These guys were helping him with his car, so he won't hesitate to help them with whatever was going to kill their land. After that, he still would have time to continue the search of his true self.

"Let's hope this thing can be speared," Ororo sighed, she could really use some sleep right about now- she was so tired. But she knew that sleep would need to come after her people were safe. After this shadow was gone she would rest.
The village lit their torches before heading inside... it was almost time.
~ ~ ~ ~
So thirsty, it was so thirsty, it just needed more water... I wasn't sure why the witch didn't make it rain, she always made it rain. The rain came and it drank but it was always thirsty, always.

So all they could do for now was waiting. Waiting and waiting and waiting. Fucking hell, this was not actually his way of acting.
Logan's eyes filled with annoyance more and more, as he was producing a cigar out of the pocket of his leather jacket. He placed it between his lips to have both hands free for the search of a lighter, before he paused all of a sudden, throwing a look to his side, where Ororo sat with the torches. Wordless Logan walked over to lit up his cigar at one of the torch's flames.
"Thank you.", he said, as he leaned back again. Now this was a little better at least.

"Thank you." She smiled at him and nodded. "You're welcome," She took a breath, "I think I'm ready now." Ororo didn't normally show off her powers in front of strangers but it was time. Everyone was inside and out of danger, the torches were lit and she focused to make sure none of them got wet. Eyes turning white she lifted her hands up to the sky and the clouds started to roll in, she could feel her hairs stand on end as the sky prepared to open wide for them. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The sound of rain caught its attention, the sound alone only drove it more. It moved towards the village, floating like air until it reached the first puddle. It looked around and saw no one, everyone was inside. When it felt safe, it lowered its hands into the ground and its body shifted. Only when it drank from the ground did it become a solid mass.
