Maeve had just sat and picked up her phone when he started for Stryker's office. The phone clattered to the desk as she ran for the door, standing in front of it with hands up signaling 'stop!' in case her glare did not convey the message.
"Fun, my ass!" she bit out through clenched teeth. "I'm the one who has to answer to him. There's a proper protocol!" she added sternly with a point toward the waiting area.

"Protocol? You know you're right, I have my own too." He took in a deep breath, locking eyes with Maeve. She might be able to resist him like non other but it didn't mean he couldn't enjoy her in other ways, she'd come around eventually. He had that feeling.
"Mine doesn't involve sitting in a chair waiting for someone to play mind games with me. I know what these missions are really about. Wasting my time." Rather than elaborate further he took the conversation in another direction. "Who needs doors, I'll take one of those chairs and throw it through his window... Or, you could entertain me." Creed's head turned to look down at her computer screen. "So tell me, what does he have you doing all day?" With that Victor sat down in her seat watching her expectantly.

"Protocol? You know you're right, I have my own too."
Realizing he wasn't going to plow right through her like a freight train had Maeve relaxing. But then the way he was looking at her had her tensing again. She'd seen him turn that look on her and others before. Like a predator ready to gobble up his prey. It was unnerving, frightening, and, she was loathe to admit it, a little thrilling. That animalistic quality radiating from him may had the other women swooning like idiots but she was too level headed and too hell bent on her mission to allow anything to distract her from it.
She broke the connection, letting out a breath of relief as she headed back to her desk while he followed and continued.
"Mine doesn't involve sitting in a chair waiting for someone to play mind games with me. I know what these missions are really about. Wasting my time." "Who needs doors, I'll take one of those chairs and throw it through his window...
If these missions were such a waste of his time, then why did he bother? His "time wasting" was furthering the threat to mutant kind; their kind. She had a cover to maintain so she bit her tongue and settled on narrowing her eyes at him over the chair comment.
Or, you could entertain me." "So tell me, what does he have you doing all day?"
"Excuse me," Maeve said, having to lean passed him to flip her monitor off. "That's--" she was about to say 'confidential' but got a mental image of a chair going through a window. "Boring office duties. Paper pushing, setting appointments, taking notes. Excuse me," she said more pointedly this time as she had to reach passed him again to briefly return the off-hook beeping phone to the cradle to regain an active line before dialing Stryker's extension. His large frame took up most of her work station and though she was dropping big enough hints that he was in her way, he wasn't leaving her seat or giving her much room. "Sir, Mr. Creed is here for you." Maeve was silent a brief moment as she listened to his reply. "Yes, sir."
With one last lean and no bother with an 'excuse me', she relieved her annoyance by slamming the phone back into its cradle. "He'll be with you in a few minutes." Giving up on any notion of getting her seat back, she sat on the corner of her desk with a frustrated sigh and returned to 'entertaining'. This time though, she attempted to take the reigns and steer the questions away from herself. "So tell me. What do you have against your own kind?"

The phone slammed down one final time. "He'll be with you in a few minutes." Creed was picking up on her hints. He just didn't care. "This is a comfy chair." He rocked in it a little as it squeaked under his weight. "So tell me. What do you have against your own kind?" He stopped moving. He shifted just his eyes to face her as he pondered her question.
"My kind?" he laughed an utterly remorseless sound. "People who believe they share some twisted kinship within a manufactured catagory just because they have some lines of genetic code in common are fooling themselves. 'Humans' don't give a rats ass about one another, why should 'mutants' be any different? There ain't no kind like me." As the silence settled back in he went back to being passive, folding his arms behind his head and leaning back in the chair. "Tell me I'm wrong."

It was important for their kind to stand together, given the fact that their kind was under attack simply for the fact that they were mutants. No other part of their genetics, beliefs, practices, or anything mattered. How they lived their lives, if they were a good person or a bad one, it did not factor in. It was that uncontrollable anomaly in their genetic code that made them a target.
There were people out there, mutants and humans alike, who did give a rats ass. She gave a rats ass and the fact that she'd placed herself in the middle of one of the biggest organizations that were a threat to her kind went far beyond proving that. But she couldn't throw that in his face. She wanted so badly to debate the topic further from her point of view--a mutant's point of view but current circumstances prevented that and so with great annoyance, she had to bite her tongue.
"Tell me I'm wrong."
Having already been annoyed at having to bite her tongue, the arrogance in his added challenge while he casually lounged in her chair gave her temper a flare. Maeve's eyes narrowed into a glare as she crossed her arms. "With pleasure." She shifted her casual stance by leaning forward for added stress to her two sharply spoken words. "You're. Wrong."

The man's eyes widened a bit. "You're. Wrong." came the response. For the first time Victor wondered if she had some pheromone of her own, he could not get her out of his mind even after he left this miserably facility. Today would be more of the same. But that was impossible, right?
"You are a fiery one. I like that." His eyes turned mischievous as he looked down her shirt as she leaned towards him. Creed then made eye contact. "It's a shame you aren't like me, I might actually take back what I said and give a shit." His large frame extended to it's full height as he vacated her chair. "But you're not. You are just a secretary for the man on the other side of the field. Who is taking his god damn time."

"You are a fiery one. I like that."
When her anger and annoyance flared up, and most especially when she added her scathing glare, people tended to shrink back. It made her feel formidable and intimidating. But this man wasn't normal. He sat there, looking amused and as if that wasn't enough to deflate whatever delusion she'd had that she could intimidate him, even with her added attempt of getting in his face, his mischievous, pointed look right down her blouse squashed any remaining notions of it.
Though she did not feel she intimidated him in the least, she was able to maintain the illusion that she felt formidable. She was still angry and rather than smacking the smug look off his face after he got an eye full, she leaned back with casual dignity, glaring anew.
"It's a shame you aren't like me, I might actually take back what I said and give a shit." "But you're not. You are just a secretary for the man on the other side of the field. Who is taking his god damn time."
She made a barely audible sound of annoyance, akin to a grow. He'd thrown fuel on the fire and she was left biting her tongue again. Her fingers itched to get home and write it all out. That was her therapy, the way she'd been dealing with bottling things up when she was playing the role of non-mutant secretary. Things she couldn't say, she got it out of her system by angrily scribbling it out in a notebook at home. She always seemed to use up several pages on days Victor graced them with his presence.
She'd maintained her seat even when he'd stood, not letting him intimidate her with his towering height. She merely craned her neck to continue her glare. Maeve was saved from entirely biting her tongue off when the man who was taking his god damn time finally opened his office door and called them both in.

The meeting went much as expected. Stryker was hoping for Victor to do some field work. Whatever was giving his people trouble, it was Creed's job to get one step ahead. Fine. And in order to do that they had to start asking questions from some old man? He didn't know how old the guy was but he didn't really care, sounded old. That was as far as his interest went without seeing the fellow, sizing him up. Getting his scent.
The good thing was the 'boss' was too busy to go himself. So Maeve was coming with him. Or he was going with her. Whatever... This guy was a guest of theirs in the basement and they did this often. Must not have had the right touch if they hadn't received the information they needed before now. Victor cracked his knuckles absentmindedly, the only noise as they walked silently down through the lobby and took the elevator to the lower levels.
As it dumped them off into another long lonely corridor, he decided to break the silence. "I can tell when somebody is going to start some shit. And I know when they are afraid. But I see other things too. You don't have much in common with Stryker. Why are you here?"

Victor was abnormally silent during their journey down to the secret basement levels. The one time she could have used his mouthing off to distract her from the nervous energy of not only finally achieving another level of security clearance, but of setting out to meet Erik face to face.
She stepped into the elevator alongside Victor and lifted her wrist with the coiled ring of keys and security card to slide her security card through the scanner. A panel she hadn't known existed opened, revealing the buttons for the basement levels. She hit the B5 button as instructed, already knowing that was the level Erik was kept. As they descended, she nervously tapped the key ring attached to her wrist between her palm and thigh, eliciting a fast paced click click click of metal and plastic as they collided over and over.
It had taken her by surprise. Apparently, whatever was going on required Stryker's attention so he'd sent her to do his work. If she'd been merely accompanying him, she could have silently observed and blended into the background. Maeve was going to be front and center, alongside Victor, who's mouthy mouth might distract from her but she was still worried. Even though her personality working here was different from Erik's invisible visitor he knew as Sim, who ironically had Maeve's real, unfiltered personality, what if she did or said something that triggered recognition in Erik?
"I can tell when somebody is going to start some shit.
"Said the shit starter," she muttered.
And I know when they are afraid.
The click click click abruptly stopped as though his statement brought on the realization she'd even been tapping her keys. Having been distracted with her thoughts, it wasn't until this comment that she connected he'd meant her starting shit up. The nervous flutter of fear of being caught went through her stomach but she did not give any outward appearance that his comment affected her in any way. Maeve had prepared herself for many lines of questioning, particularly pertaining to who she was and where her loyalties lay.
But I see other things too. You don't have much in common with Stryker. Why are you here?"
"You don't either. Why are you here?" she countered. Realizing that came off as a bit more harsh than usual and that defensiveness was usually a sign of guilt, she gave the resigned sigh of someone who was getting ready to grudgingly divulge information. "Whatever I do or don't have in common with Stryker doesn't matter. I needed a paycheck and I struck gold with this job. It's hard for a woman to find a halfway decent job, let alone one with a high position and great pay." She shot him an accusatory look as if blaming him and his gender on behalf of her gender.
The end of the corridor, she slid her security card again and the little light flashed green as the lock of the door clicked open. She pulled the door open and the feeling of satisfaction hit her again. "And I'm damn good at my job," she said, flashing a rare smile over her shoulder. Of course she was referring to her job of playing the role of 'just a secretary.'
She worked out a way to address his nervous and scared comment. "We're about to question the Magneto. That doesn't make you a little nervous?" she asked.
They'd entered the main area so Maeve had kept her voice lower. As she waited for his response, she glanced around, studying the level for the first time during work hours under the guise of curiosity and getting the lay of the land. But she already knew the lay of the land. What she was focused on were the open lab doors, cabinets unlocked, and projects spread out on counters.

"You don't either. Why are you here?" she countered. Victor ignored her as he pressed on but she was persistent. "Whatever I do or don't have in common with Stryker doesn't matter. I needed a paycheck and I struck gold with this job. It's hard for a woman to find a halfway decent job, let alone one with a high position and great pay," There was a long pause before she continued her interruption. "And I'm damn good at my job."
Creed opened his mouth but then closed it again. He was going to continue but he had forgotten what he was going to say. She was going on a bit, had he struck a nerve? Good... "We're about to question the Magneto. That doesn't make you a little nervous?" she asked. Rather than answer her he circled back, "You like dodging questions. Okay what, he's good in the sack? Never mind, you're right. I don't have anything in common with him either." He smirked but turned his back on her as he surveyed the latest room.
They stood in a large lab of some sort. A lot of people must work down here but right now it was just the two of them. Well them and this great 'Magneto'. "So if you like your job so much I imagine this is a pretty important assignment. What's it worth to you? If I can extract something from this Magneto how about you and me make a deal."
Victor let that hang in the air for a moment, but not enough time for her to try and bite his head off. "Just a chat, off the clock. And you can take the credit for all this." He gestured ahead towards their unseen yet expectant host. Lifting his right hand he started examining his sharp fingernails with feigned interest as he walked forward past the desks.

"You like dodging questions. Okay what, he's good in the sack?
Maeve shot him a glare and didn't bother dignifying that with a comment.
Never mind, you're right. I don't have anything in common with him either."
Again she didn't comment as they'd approached the last security door at the end of a big lab. Behind this door was a small hallway that led to Erik's plastic cage. Security guards would check them with metal detectors before they could enter his prison. Maeve was careful not to wear jewelry or clothing that had anything resembling metal when traipsing about as her clone self at work. She'd been waiting for this opportunity and knowing her cloned projection didn't fully register as a normal human when tested, she had no idea how and if cloned metal would react to detectors and this wasn't exactly the right time to test it out.
"So if you like your job so much I imagine this is a pretty important assignment. What's it worth to you? If I can extract something from this Magneto how about you and me make a deal."
Her security card paused in mid air. Like the job? Not so much. But it was damn important and worth more to her than she assumed he could comprehend. His freely given comments and opinions framed him as a self-involved, self-preserving being. He'd never done or said anything that inspired one to believe he possessed compassion so attempting to appeal to his better nature seemed pointless. A deal, however, peaked her interest.
She turned to him, still not bending to any notion that he was on to anything and crossed her arms as if she was just humoring him, waiting for him to finish wasting their time so they could get on with things.
"Just a chat, off the clock. And you can take the credit for all this."
Maeve quietly studied him as she thought over the offer. "Fine," she said with a sigh of resignation. "Deal, but you'll just be wasting your time," she persisted. When she turned her back on him to slide her card, the hint of a smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. 'Good luck getting anything out of Erik,' she thought with confidence. The man was probably more stubborn than she was.
They were stopped by the two security guards, as described, for the metal detection test. One of the men started to greet them warmly, until he looked down at her ID badge and saw her name. His smile dropped and his expression turned serious. She could see all thoughts of any niceties drop from his mind. Apparently, word of her reputation had trickled even to the basement levels.
"Miss Charbonneau. Welcome," he said with a respectful nod. She merely kept a stern expression and gave a short nod. "Please empty your pockets and place any metal items in the trays, then step over here to be scanned."
She dropped her ID badge and key card, the only items she had on her person, into the tray and stepped to the spot he'd indicated, following his instructions to hold her arms out as he ran the metal detector around her with nervous intimidation.
Erik was right there, on the other side of the plastic wall. It took all her willpower not to look; to stand there and act disinterested and impatient while the guards did their job, scanning them both, then moving all items and metal to a small room which was then sealed air tight before any move to touch Erik's cell was made.

Victor had a feeling she wouldn't say no. She could, but she was an opportunistic sort. Curiosity got the best of her. As far as she was concerned a quiet rendezvous wouldn't cost her anything. She could think that all she wanted. He smiled as she turned her back on him. "Good."
The last door opened and on the other side was two guards and beyond, a long plastic hallway? Suspended in a massive, cavernous room. He couldn't see the top or bottom. He was impressed. The old man's predecessor had spared no expense in his hatred of mutants. Perhaps one in particular? The very man he could see looking back at him now... Magneto. Maeve was going about her last checkpoint. Paying the man no mind. But Creed bore through him. And the scrutiny was reciprocated. This would be interesting...
Once the woman was through, the guards turned to him. They said nothing. He didn't recognize them but they seemed to expect he knew the drill. He started to laugh. "Seriously?" They didn't look amused but they did see the absurdity of it. "You guys should take a seat." Victor went through all his various pockets in a juvenile fashion rather than just removing his coat. Which he did do, eventually... Then his belt and his boots. He enjoyed that thoroughly. Finally came his dog tags. "You let anything happen to these, and I will wrap you in all this shit and throw you into that cell." The trinket fell into the dish as he turned back to his companion. "Shall we?"

Maeve waited impatiently, arms crossed as Victor unloaded his pockets and removed various articles of clothing. A slight raise of her eyebrows when he produced dog tags was the only change in her expression.
..."You let anything happen to these, and I will wrap you in all this shit and throw you into that cell."
It took all of Maeve's willpower to not laugh at that mental image, let alone crack a smile. Being a stone cold bitch was not always an easy act to pull off.
"Shall we?"
Maeve made to take a step before she was stopped. "Uh, ma'am?"
She let out an annoyed sigh. "What is it?" she asked as she turned back to the guard who'd been stuck checking Victor. He was pointing to Victor's wrist. Right. The Mutant Detector Block. Preoccupied with coming face to face with Erik was messing with her concentration. The Blocker wasn't needed on the basement levels anyway as these floors were meant to imprison and test on mutants.
Maeve moved to stand in front of Victor and held out her hand expectantly, waiting for him to raise his wrist so she could punch in the code.

One of the men cleared his throat before they could proceed. He looked over with annoyance as well as Maeve. Only he was allowed to cause problems. She seemed to have a reputation though, they seemed to be... afraid of her? Victor made a mental note to touch on that later.
The guard gestured to his wrist and he had forgotten about the band she had placed on him in the lobby. Holding out her hand she waited. He looked from her towards the man again, waiting at the end of the long catwalk. Raising his voice although he didn't know how much good it would do, he bellowed, "This is why I can't have nice things!" He was just trying to get his first impressions out of the way now but it would have been a handy gadget for them to forget he was in possession of. With a sigh he dropped his wrist into her hand.

"This is why I can't have nice things!"
With her head bowed as she punched in the code, she allowed herself to sneak an amused grin before schooling her features again.
The band opened and she dropped it into the tray of the waiting guard, not bothering to spare him a glance. When they started moving away from the guards, she spoke again. "So, dog tags, huh?" The incredulity was obvious in her voice.

Something peaked her interest and he didn’t even need to do anything to work for it that time... Maybe he had read her wrong. “Don’t act so surprised.” He said with a smirk. His expression then turned serious. “I’ve been taking orders for a long time. Guess I just got tired of it.”
A lot of thoughts flooded into his mind, all the different colors he had worn, commanders he had served. Men he’d bled with. They were all dead now. He’d outlasted them all. Save one. He shook his head, an amused grin spreading back across his face. “You like a man in uniform?”

Victor Creed. Taking orders. Again she gave him an incredulous look. She wanted to comment on it but they were nearing the second door; the one that would put them in the same room as Erik. She'd have to log that away to explore another time.
“You like a man in uniform?”
The corners of her mouth quirked ever so slightly, giving away her answer even from a profile view. Hell, what woman didn't appreciate a man in uniform?
The fanciful musings of men in uniforms had Maeve sobering. She was annoyed at herself for having slipped into casual conversation and banter, particularly with a coworker (of sorts) at the very place she needed to be most cautious and on her guard.
Maeve turned to pin him with a steely glare a few steps from the door. She kept her voice low to avoid being overheard, reverting back to her flinty-edged tone as she took out her annoyance on him. "Reign it in, Tiger,” she warned. “We've got work to do. And wipe that damn grin off your face,” she said with a flippant gesture at his expression.
"Completely unprofessional," she added in an irritated grumble before opening the final barrier between them and the infamous Magneto. That one was aimed partially at herself.

By now Erik had turned back to his usual activity - rigidly staring into the camera's eye. Whatever had triggered the alarm somewhere on the upper level, it seemed to have not meant for him. Again. So what? He had time. Plenty of it. He could wait. In the meantime driving them crazy with his obstinacy. Eventually, the door's locking mechanism drew his attention away from the camera and the imagined staff behind, that he hoped he was driving nuts with this. Erik sat up a little to prepare himself for another of his favorite activities - rigidly staring into Stryker's eye. Even though that kind of activity was inwardly most of all driving himself nuts. About not being able to do more than this. Not being able to kill that human scum. But he swore, if they ever would get sloppy as for their safety arrangements, he'd be the first human to pierce with the first metal object he could find. There was shown only a short eyelid twitching on his face when he realized it wasn't Stryker this time. Well, not Stryker himself at least. They all were Stryker. They all were human scum. So Erik's gaze remained harsh and rigid, watching his two guests, especially the man.

Maeve secretly took a deep breath to settle herself and finally let her eyes settle on Erik. She’d seen him many times, but this was the first time he was actually seeing her. It was both familiar and surreal at the same time. She pushed away the self conscious curiosity of his initial thoughts when first seeing her.
Her usual cold, hard demeanor wouldn’t do in an interrogation setting. Her best bet was to first try the open and approachable method so she gave him a friendly yet professional smile. “Mr. Lehnsherr,” she began, purposefully taking a seat in the same chair she always used. Her chair. “My name is Maeve Charbonneau and this is Victor Creed.” She motioned to the man built like a tank with noticeable features that gave away his mutant genes. “We’re just here for a friendly chat.”

“Mr. Lehnsherr,”, the woman suddenly drew his attention, although it had been only his eyes wandering in her direction. Oh, she could save this false smile of hers. Friendly, yet false. Erik kept up with the rigidly look of his own, which raised to one of deathful immense when she dared to take a seat in one of the chairs at the little table. Her chair. “My name is Maeve Charbonneau and this is Victor Creed.” Erik not even wasted a wandering of his eyes to the man still standing in the middle of the room. His teeth were grinding in his jaw, actual seeable. “We’re just here for a friendly chat.”"Better spare your breath. You're probably Stryker's newest watch-dogs if you don't know I'm not giving any interviews, not to mention a friendly chat.", Erik, at last, stated with a silent hiss.

"Reign it in, Tiger,” Maeve barked at him. He was actually startled. One minute she seemed to be enjoying the thought of him in uniform and the next... “We've got work to do. And wipe that damn grin off your face,” she said with a gesture at his expression. "Completely unprofessional," she added in a grumble as her steam seemed to fizzle out. "So are we still going out or not?" He added as he couldn't resist.
Before any more could be said they where through the next checkpoint and that was it. Nothing between them and the 'dangerous mutant' but air. “Mr. Lehnsherr, my name is Maeve Charbonneau and this is Victor Creed.” She motioned in his direction. “We’re just here for a friendly chat.” Magneto didn't let her finish, "Better spare your breath. You're probably Stryker's newest watch-dogs if you don't know I'm not giving any interviews, not to mention a friendly chat."
Victor took a menacing step towards their host, "You might want to rethink your manners. Try again." He could dig the good cop, bad cop routine. Dibs on the bad cop. "Unless you really don't want to have a friendly chat, then you can talk to me." He smirked and those canines protruded past his teeth down over his lower lip.

Eventually, the scowling looking man managed to draw Erik's attention away from Maeve and the thought that she was angering the hell out of him with only the fact in which chair she had placed herself. It was still angering the hell out of him, but did he try to swallow it down. What could he do about it anyway? There was absolutely no way he would allow himself to show any hint of someone actually was paying him visits once every week. Erik rather would have taken that secret to his grave, along with every single information about the Brotherhood. But he knew they wouldn't kill him all too soon. Not before they would have made him talk. Just the trouble was he wouldn't. Erik didn't show any sign of intimidation, as the man was speaking up to him. "You might want to rethink your manners. Try again.""Unless you really don't want to have a friendly chat, then you can talk to me."He had already assumed the mutant gene at this man's core. Though that gene really seemed to have been rotten very deep at his core, if he didn't consider himself too good for working together with Stryker. "You actually know the side you're on?", Erik suddenly asked with the same rigid expression on his face as always, not reacting to the given advise just now. He didn't need any advice from a mutant like this anyway. A disgrace to his species.

Maeve knew Erik wouldn’t say a thing about the Brotherhood, let alone their location. But she knew how he felt about their kind and the importance of them standing together. The key was to get him talking. If she could do that, then most likely Stryker would allow her to take over or at least join in these interrogations. Even though she knew no amount of talking or persuasion or trust gained by any individual associated with Trask could get him to talk, Stryker obviously believed there was, otherwise, she was sure he’d have resorted to threats and torture. Maeve feared that might not be far off as when Stryker has passed the task to her since he was busy putting out a fire, she did get the impression he was growing tired and annoyed with it himself.
Erik’s statement was a stark reminder of his fierce beliefs. It had led to many heated debates during her visits as Sim so she thought she’d try a new angle that might make it hard for him to hold his tongue, especially if it didn’t relate to putting his Brotherhood or mutants in general at risk.
“Perhaps he doesn’t,” she answered for Victor. Maeve casually leaned forward and foldered her hands on the table. “Perhaps no one has ever attempted to persuade him or explain the importance of unity.” Something she’d attempted to bring up with Victor earlier but couldn’t pursue due to the limited capacity of the role she was playing. “Please, by all means,” she offered openly with a gesture between the two men, hoping Erik wouldn’t be able to resist one of his mutant unity tirades.

Erik came up with a joyless chuckle all of a sudden, even though that was for a short moment only. Once his features had become more serious again, he stated: "Nice try. You're good. Better than your boss in fact." Then he leaned a little forward to give her that rigid look of his again. "But not good enough. You think I'm naive enough to not look through this?" Erik let this statement to stand open in the room, while he leaned backward again. He was sure both of them knew exactly what he was talking about. Clever move, that he had to admit though. Almost as if this woman would know him and his habit to get lost in dedicated speeches about the mutant gene... Eventually, Erik turned his attention back to the mutant man. "Okay. Go on. Make me talk." He folded his hands on the top of his knees, continued watching him with rigid eyes. And there was another thing for him to admit: Despite his aversion he indeed somehow felt some kind of need to talk to this man about the terribly wrong side he had chosen. But not in front of a human being anyway.

"Nice try. You're good. Better than your boss in fact." "But not good enough. You think I'm naive enough to not look through this?"
Not the least bit intimidated, Maeve lifted one arm to rest her elbow on the table and her chin in her hand, meeting his rigid look with a clever smile that confirmed he was spot on. She was not going to belittle his intelligence by denying it nor by giving the impression that it was ever her intent to think she could fool him. She was trying to convey that she was willing to openly talk and listen which might also give the impression that despite being "human", she might also be able to be swayed.
'I got you to say 24 words so far, stubborn man,' she thought with private triumph. That was damn near chatty compared to what Stryker had said he'd gotten out of the guy.
"Okay. Go on. Make me talk."
'25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30. Sweetie, you are talking,' Maeve mentally added with amusement. And this was just the start. She logged this moment away to rub in his face if there came a time that she could. She'd been right. His stubborn pride in mutant kind could definitely get him to talk but she knew there was nothing that could get him to betray his kind.
Maeve also knew when to hold her tongue. She remained quiet and let the "mutants" talk. She had shifted to turn her attention to Victor, giving him an expectant look. 'Don't screw this up, big guy. Maeve had gotten the ball into play and now it was Victor's turn to run with it.

“Perhaps he doesn’t... Perhaps no one has ever attempted to persuade him or explain the importance of unity.” Victor deflated somewhat as they started ignoring him, Maeve even talking for him? But his 'fellow' mutant wasn't having any of it. "Okay. Go on. Make me talk," he finished with a strong disinterest, on the surface anyway.
Victor looked from one face to the other. Both of their expressions betrayed them. He didn't profess to be able to read minds but he knew very well that they both thought they were in control of the situation. There was a lot going on behind their eyes. Behind those masks. "You both rely an awful lot on your brains but where has that gotten you? Locked in a room with a predator who is higher on the food chain." He shifted his gaze back and forth between the two as he talked. "You think you know who or what I fight for? Go ahead, I'll humor you." He made no motion to take a seat, Victor just crossed his arms and waited.

"You both rely an awful lot on your brains but where has that gotten you?" At the wording both Erik's eyes met with the woman's again, for only a little moment though. "Locked in a room with a predator who is higher on the food chain." And who was that supposed to be, he thought motionless. Himself? The mutant being one of Stryker's donkeys? "You think you know who or what I fight for? Go ahead, I'll humor you."
And yet again Erik's eyes wandered over to Maeve, who was remaining a silent watcher by now. He came up with another of his joyless chuckles. This was a trick and they still seemed to believe he would take the bait.
"You know what?", at last Erik spoke up again, leaning back again, maybe an unknowingly move to underline his drawback from this actual conversation or at least the start of one. "I don't care. If you like to bootlick that scum of humans, I don't need to know the reason or if there is one at all, and not only the chance of an easier life. I mean, honestly, what kind of life..." Pause. And then another chuckle was following his words, while one hand ran through his by now wild grown hair before he turned to Maeve again. "This isn't working." But inwardly a little bit of anger was rising up. Anger about this interview had become different from his latest with Stryker.

"You know what? I don't care. If you like to bootlick that scum of humans, I don't need to know the reason or if there is one at all, and not only the chance of an easier life. I mean, honestly, what kind of life..." Anger was welling up inside him as Magneto trailed off. This guy was unbelievable. Victor laughed an utterly cruel sound. Then he paused, but his smirk grew wider. If this was getting under his skin then he would be furious not laughing. It was kind of his thing, he would admit it. That anger wasn't coming from him, but he could feel it. As one would read a mind, he could feel those emotions people thought they had buried beneath the surface. Creed was getting to him. Time to ramp it up.
"You're funny, oh I've given out my fair share of licks." His height easily allowed him to raise one of his boots up and place it on the tables edge right between Erik and Maeve. "I especially love the sound of someones back breaking under these boots right here." With that he shifted his weight forward and sent the table crashing against the wall. "I bet you fantasize about licking Strykers boots though, anything to get a taste of freedom again! Sure as hell aren't getting any help from the brotherhood now are you!?" As he poured through his sentence his voice got louder and louder until he ended shouting in the mans face. Calming his expression he stood back up straight and crossed his arms. "Where are they now?" He chuckled again, a more resigned sound. Victor pitied the man before him, the emotion plain on his face. "They don't give a shit about you."

"You both rely an awful lot on your brains but where has that gotten you?" "Locked in a room with a predator who is higher on the food chain."
Well that kind of sounded like a thinly veiled threat. One that included her. It seemed Maeve's approach along with Erik's response had irked Victor. Now she was starting to feel a bit irked herself.
"You think you know who or what I fight for? Go ahead, I'll humor you."
Maeve had automatically turned to see Erik's reaction just as Erik had momentarily looked back to her. There was a serious edge to her previous mood of friendly and open that said she wasn't all too thrilled with Victor either at the moment. When Erik gave a humorless laugh and started to talk again, she grudgingly had to admit Victor's tactic worked.
Though she wasn't 100% sure if it was a tactic or if he was merely being himself, threats and all.
"You know what?" "I don't care. If you like to bootlick that scum of humans, I don't need to know the reason or if there is one at all, and not only the chance of an easier life. I mean, honestly, what kind of life..." "This isn't working."
Maeve crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair, about to comment that she thought things were going wonderfully. But the rumbling base of Victor's menacing laugh sent a shiver down her spine and made her forget her words.
"You're funny, oh I've given out my fair share of licks." "I especially love the sound of someones back breaking under these boots right here."
Maeve scooted back, her arms reflexively shooting up to protect her head as she tucked herself into a ball away from the flying table. It had taken all of her willpower to hold on to her projection and not reflexively phase out and ruin everything she'd meticulously worked up to.
"I bet you fantasize about licking Strykers boots though, anything to get a taste of freedom again! Sure as hell aren't getting any help from the brotherhood now are you!?" "Where are they now?" "They don't give a shit about you."
Maeve had slowly uncurled as Victor continued. She was seething mad and it was partially given away on her face but mostly in the way her eyes were shooting daggers at Victor's back. She felt as if her presence was forgotten for the moment so she kept herself in check and bit her tongue.

"You're funny, oh I've given out my fair share of licks." Oh, I bet so, Erik thought with no emotion shown on his face, while he was listening to the man's testosterone loaded speech. What an asshole. "I especially love the sound of someones back breaking under these boots right here." He also bet it was the other's purpose to somehow frighten Erik with crashing the room's only furniture. But instead of fear, he got another rigid look from him. Erik didn't fear a man pathetic like this. If Frankenstein had decided to send his monster this time instead of coming down here by himself, then it seemed he had to deal with it.
"I bet you fantasize about licking Stryker's boots though, anything to get a taste of freedom again! Sure as hell aren't getting any help from the brotherhood now are you!?" Erik remained calm on the outside, though his teeth grinding in his jaw was one visible sign of the anger actually brewing inside. Never would he do anything for Stryker, but to pierce a sharp object right into his head. And if he had the possibility, something would have pierced into this man's head here right now.
"Where are they now?""They don't give a shit about you." Once his conversation partner's temper calmed, it did calm his as well. For now, he couldn't do more than swallowing down his anger real hard anyway. But he better not will come across him down the road. Erik had no god damn idea where his people were now, yes, but he still had trust in them. And never would he betray his own people. Never.
After a long pause of silence and staring, Erik raised his voice again, slowly leaning forward. "You think this would intimidate me? Go ahead, I'll smile at you." A slight mocking smile indeed was playing on his lips. He actually wasn't willed to join in this man's little mind games, but if he had to, he would.
