Another really strong installment that gets 4 stars that I'm so tempted to give 5!
This one really delves into yet another place that the MCU is heading; space! Realms and space. I can't wait!
I liked the scenes from the past. Amazing how they can make people look so young. I remember when information was first being released about the movie and hearing that Ego, the Living Planet would be in it as Peter's dad. It's amazing how well they do bringing these characters to the screen that sound like they wouldn't translate well.
I loved the opening. The angle of the fight was hilarious and original, all concentrating on baby Groot dancing around with the fight as a background and baby Groot just barely missing danger while the others seem to get hurt while stepping in to help him.
Speaking of, Ego's planet was so beautiful. Well, except for the cave with the bones of thousands of his own children. Yikes. He really was beyond any humanity.
Peter's reaction when Ego says he's the one that put the tumor into his mom's brain was really perfect. It snapped him out of the trance and immediately is blasting Ego with bullets. Man, the emotional scar of Peter losing his mom is really still deeply ingrained in him.
Ego really took a dark turn. He seemed so wonderful. So perfect. I almost hoped there'd be someone else showing up as a main villain.
Oh man, Yondu. At least the third time I've seen this and I still totally cried. The funeral was so beautiful and Rocket's reaction when he saw that everyone showed up, that they still liked him after the things he'd done just made me cry more, dammit. Poor Peter lost both his parental figures.
Gamora and Nebula's relationship was also done well. And Mantis and Drax. The whole crew is unique and because of that, it creates interesting dynamics between them. It's fun to watch and to see how much they all care about each other.
My only complaint about the whole thing is Sylvester Stalone. That man cannot act worth shit and always has an expression like he smells, well, shit. Perhaps the stench is coming off his acting, lol. Sorry, he's just completely awful to me. The few times he was on screen took me completely out of the movie.
Stan sighting: He was on that planet talking to some aliens! Fans have had the theory that Stan is a Watcher and that's why he appears everywhere. Not just as a funny cameo, but with an actual purpose. Well, it seems like they were right! Either that or he's working for the Watchers. I'm not sure what the Watchers look like or if maybe the guys he was talking to were the Watchers and he was reporting his interactions to them.
Stingers: So many!! 1. Kraglin trying to learn how to use Yondu's telekinetic arrow and Drax gets hit with it. Lmao! That was so funny!
2. Starhawk is regrouping his old team which are the original Guardians of the Galaxy.
3. Ayesha reveals a new pod with a specimen that will be the greatest creation of their people yet. She named him Adam. It's Adam Warlock! An extremely powerful character in the comic books. I hear we won't be seeing him in Infinity Wars or any of the other MCU until the next Guardians movie. We'll see! I wonder who they'll cast as him?
4. Teenager Groot! Actually, I'm so not a fan of teenaged Groot. He's so not adorable. He's just like every other annoying teenager you wanna smack upside the head.
