"Yah, hello. Well, I have a tenacious memory for faces, so - uh, you two are not here for the battle, I presume?"
"Oh, no, no, we very much are," Sophie insisted. "I've heard a lot about your star fighter there." She glanced down at the ring where the fight was proceeding in the woman's favor. "Mostly from another colleague of mine that she put in hospital. Don't worry, I'm not here looking for liability."
Since she had removed the concern of legal proceedings from the table, Sophie expected their host to become a little more hospitable. But he still seemed rather unwelcoming, and the stern, stocky woman who stood by his side even more so. "But I am here to help you make money," Sophie informed him. "Or more accurately, to help you make money for me. May I?" She gestured toward an empty space on the plush couch beside him.

"Oh, no, no, we very much are,""I've heard a lot about your star fighter there.""Mostly from another colleague of mine that she put in hospital. Don't worry, I'm not here looking for liability."
While the blonde woman spoke, the Grandmaster's gaze followed hers down at the ring and back to them. He still had a wary look upon his face yet seemed a little bit more at ease after her last words. Still, there was this unanswered question of them inviting themselves without actual tickets, same as why they walked up here to talk to him.
"But I am here to help you make money,""Or more accurately, to help you make money for me. May I?"
At that, the Grandmaster's features suddenly brightened up again. Money was definitely their number one problem, so any help with that was more than welcome. And since he, due to having his minions for everything, tent to have a naive or rather shortsighted view on things, especially bureaucratically-wise, his attitude towards the new arrivals was changing immediately with that offer.
"Uh, yes, please," the Grandmaster answered the request with sudden hospitality, earning a questioning look from Topaz, yet he would ignore that. He was the Grandmaster, after all. "So," he spoke up again once they were seated, even having turned his full attention to them by now. "How can you help us with that?" He would not ask for something to give in return as long as that got not put forward.

"Uh, yes, please. So, how can you help us with that?"
Sophie smiled and took a seat as the emcee's tone and posture shifted into something far more accommodating. "Well, in case you were unaware, the previous owner of this building had some difficulties with the Greek government. Among the assets that they didn't seize was this place, which I subsequently purchased at a sizable discount," she explained. "This little underground fight club of yours is clearly bringing in the crowds but not the profits. A bit of marketing infrastructure, a few payments to the zoning board to look the other way, and I can change that. Which makes me your new best friend."

"Ah-a, yes yes yes," the Grandmaster nodded, yet rather uninterested, and, honestly, he hadn't been aware and was seeing no sense to get informed about that nowadays. Instead, they just shall come to the point; especially since he was missing a great fight for this.
"This little underground fight club of yours is clearly bringing in the crowds but not the profits. A bit of marketing infrastructure, a few payments to the zoning board to look the other way, and I can change that. Which makes me your new best friend."
"Ah.. ha...," he replied with confusion on his features, raising one hand to his chin. This was not his kind of business, but it sounded like it was hers. Suddenly, the Grandmaster smiled as he clapped his hands together. "Good. Let me know what you - uh, what you need to help us."

Nebula promised the Grandmaster that she would make her fights fair. Weapons such as electricity wielding batons had been banned after one of her previous opponents nearly fried to death to the point where their club almost got exposed, even though the spectators had been roaring admirably about it for weeks on end. When Nebula fought, there was never a dull moment. Crowds returned when they heard her name broadcasted in the programming, just dying to see what she would do next. Lucky for her, the rules posed no threat to the use of her built-in bionic features. A loud scream, what some may say was Bone Wrecker's battle cry, emulated through the ring. The cringing sight was granted an eyeroll by Nebula. Some of these earthlings needed antics to amp up their performances, even strange costumes at times. As for Nebula, it was all about the fight. So when the raging lunatic began to charge at her, Nebula stood her ground and stared at him with a rather bored expression as if she had had enough of the tea party. When Bone Wrecker came close enough to grab her, Nebula sealed the first move as her bionic arm shot up from her side and grabbed her opponent by the shoulder. She swung him up in the air, over her head and slammed his back hard into the middle of the ring. The crowd rose to their feet at the sound of impact, screaming and cheering in Nebula's favor. Unfazed by the shouting and loud noises rising from the crowd, Nebula walked a couple of steps over to Bone Wrecker who was now shaking in pain and terror. His eyes grew large as he noticed she was coming back for more. Stepping over him, Nebula grabbed the squealing man with both hands as she knelt over and began clock him in the face left then right. Blood began to spew as Nebula showed no signs of slowing down.

"Good. Let me know what you - uh, what you need to help us."
"Oh, I'm not asking much at all," Sophie replied, with a casual wave of her well-manicured hand. "I'd say 10 percent of advanced ticket sales, exclusive broadcast rights, and...." She winced in pain as the self-appointed Bone Wrecker was clearly on the losing end of this fight already. Nebula moved with such anger and yet calculated efficiency, that Sophie had to sit in silent awe. Even with the extent of Ryan's injuries, she began to wonder if perhaps the woman had gone easy on her injured employee. She could definitely find room for such an asset on the Pandion Preserve's payroll.
"...And a chat with your champion," she concluded, a pleasant yet determined smile upon her lips.

"Oh, I'm not asking much at all,""I'd say 10 percent of advanced ticket sales, exclusive broadcast rights, and...."
The Grandmaster was fine with what he heard. Money shall not stand in the way of this, especially since she promised to help them to profit. His understanding of any bureaucracy was bad enough anyway to weigh up the pros and cons of an arrangement like the one at hand. However, her 'and' and especially the following pause, with this look towards the stage where Nebula was still fighting for him, was what brought back a bit of the Grandmaster's distrust, after all; Or maybe not exactly distrust, but rather this feeling of not wanting to cooperate.
"...And a chat with your champion,"
"That depends," he replied with his features a little less on ease, yet still professional; Or as professional as seeing himself.

"That depends."
"Depends on what?" Sophie inquired. She didn't think her request that difficult, but she tried to be considerate of the Grandmaster's position. No doubt he had to deal with people of questionable motives regularly, and she was only just starting to build a foundation of trust here. Plus he was still in sole possession of all the leverage right now.
"Physically speaking, you can see that I'm no threat to you or your fighters," she offered, "and financially speaking... well, if we were indeed to go into business together, it wouldn't exactly be in my interests to do them any harm. Would you like me to leave Colin here as collateral?" she asked, with a wave toward her bodyguard who had been busily eyeing the grumpy woman at the Grandmaster's side. "He's strong, loyal, and a surprisingly good cook."
"It's true, sir," Colin confirmed. "My mother was Italian; she'd disown me if I ever used store-bought pasta."

"Depends on what?"
The Grandmaster was just going to launch into an answer when the woman went on anyway. She was not exactly interrupting her, but it was still a move he didn't appreciate; Continuing talking without giving the other one time to reply to the question first.
"Physically speaking, you can see that I'm no threat to you or your fighters,""and financially speaking... well, if we were indeed to go into business together, it wouldn't exactly be in my interests to do them any harm. Would you like me to leave Colin here as collateral?""He's strong, loyal, and a surprisingly good cook."
Oh, it was not that he thought of them to be any harm to his champion, at least not in a physical way, but instead, would he simply like to know about everything that played out between his fighters and other people. On Sakaar, it had been easy to prohibit by simply locking away his prisoners with jobs in separate cells... rooms. But here on Earth, everything was different to handle. So complicated.
"It's true, sir,""My mother was Italian; she'd disown me if I ever used store-bought pasta."
With that, they actually managed to distract the Grandmaster from his distrust for a moment. "What is pasta? Uh - never mind," he quickly added with a wave of his hand. He was still interested in this pasta thing but also wanted to get this business done so that he'd be able to enjoy the rest of the show. "Okay, granted. How much time will that interview take?" the Grandmaster asked in the woman's direction again, after all, making it sound like they were reporters who liked to write an article about his star.

"What is pasta? Uh - never mind."
"Wait, 'what is pasta?'?!" Colin repeated in disbelief. "Only the best, most versatile, and most satisfying food on this planet. Boss, I told you this guy was an alien."
Sophie cut her compatriot off with a silencing glare, hoping that his words hadn't damaged this already delicate negotiation. "As you can see, Colin is also quite passionate about the things he values," she noted, "And can be counted on to be discreet about anyone's current immigration status."
"Okay, granted. How much time will that interview take?"
"Splendid!" Sophie beamed. She'd made plenty of so-called elevator pitches and knew she'd be able to get the point. Especially since this Nebula woman didn't seem like one for idle chitchat. "I'd say five minutes should be sufficient....?"

The Grandmaster was looking rather confused between the woman and her companion when this pasta conversation expanded. Also, did this guy just call him an alien?
"Splendid!" the woman was leading it back to business then. "I'd say five minutes should be sufficient....?"
"Okay, great. But, with my champion, there's no guarantee that you'll profit from only five minutes. She's... uh, let's just say, she doesn't like to talk a lot," the Grandmaster explained on the quiet.

With one massive blow to the cheek, teeth and blood were strewen all over the ring and Nebula's opponent was finally knocked unconscious. The crowd roared on their feet, chanting Nebula's name over and over. Nebula didn't so much react to the crowd's adoration for her, but she fed off of their chaotic energy. Bringing herself to her feet, Nebula was angry that her opponent had been beaten so fast and verbally showed her aggression through her actions.
"That's all you got, weakling?! Get up! Get up and finish this!" Nebula threw her hands up in the air, screaming and shouting over Bone Wrecker. More than anything, she was angry and frustrated that the Grandmaster had yet to find an opponent strong and worthy to go up against her otherworldly set of strength and skills. This was all child's play, and she needed a new challenge. Something bigger than beating up earthlings in a matter of seconds. As one team dragged Bone Wrecker away to get him medical attention, another team grabbed Nebula in an attempt to drag her off the ring. Growling, Nebula shook them all off. With a dirty scowl, Nebula showed herself out of the arena and headed back towards the warehouse room to get her aggression out before wailing a fist into anyone else.

"That's fine, I just need her to listen," Sophie agreed. With the Grandmaster's permission, she left the platform to follow the retreating form of the triumphant fighter. She noticed that Colin was trying to offer a bite of his protein bar to the Grandmaster's right-hand woman, who still regarded him with scorn.
The din of the crowd began to fade as she walked to a far corner of the warehouse that seemed to be Nebula's living quarters-slash-training room. Well aware that the champion was likely still riding the high of adrenaline in her veins, if indeed she had veins, Sophie was careful to approach slowly and calmly. "Well, this is about the saddest green room I've ever seen," she sighed. "You really must re-negotiate your contract."

The slam of the door behind Nebula echoed through the tiny room. Exhaling heavily, Nebula paced angrily back and forth as she replayed the fight over in her head. Not even five minutes was her opponent down and out. How in the hell was she supposed to raise an army through this agreement when all of her prospects were sent to the hospital after every fight? Thanos was still out there and her sister had abandoned her. She couldn't even place her trust in anyone useful or worthy on this weak and wasteful excuse for a planet. The solemn thought that she had landed herself back to base one crept in, and it was the tip of the iceberg that led to a sudden cry of rage before wailing her bionic fist into the concrete wall.
"Well, this is about the saddest green room I've ever seen," "You really must re-negotiate your contract."
Nebula released her fist from the wall, leaving a deep imprint of her knuckle as cracks had been sent in all directions through the concrete. Her furious, deadpan expression slowly turned from the wall she faced to the blonde woman who stood in the middle of the room, announcing her arrival. Nebula stared at the blonde women momentarily, reading her from top to bottom. This woman was here with an agenda, Nebula could sense it, and she didn't want any part of it.
"I told Grandmaster I don't deal with the vile vermin of the underground Press," Nebula growled in the woman's direction, "Go get a story from someone else. I have nothing to say to you." She turned away and walked towards a counter with tinkering tools. Grabbing one, Nebula began to inspect her bionic arm for spots to tune up.

"I told Grandmaster I don't deal with the vile vermin of the underground Press. Go get a story from someone else. I have nothing to say to you."
"Oh, but I have many things to say to you. Firstly, congratulations, well-played," Sophie began, pointing toward the ring they'd just left as she walked further into the room. She cast a wary glance at the deep imprint of Nebula's fist in the concrete wall and reminded herself to tread carefully, lest she end up on the receiving end of that punch. "Secondly, I'm not a reporter; quite frankly I'm insulted you'd think me one of those parasites. And thirdly...I thought you might be looking for a challenge. Someone a bit more on your level than that Bone Saw, Bone Crusher, whatever his name was."
Sophie leaned back against the counter, still giving Nebula her personal space yet indulging her own curiosity. Now that she was closer, she could see that the woman was a sophisticated combination of organic and bionic material. Like a robot, but far more advanced than anything even Tony Stark had built. One who apparently handled her own repairs and felt little to no pain, as she observed Nebula apply the tip of a red hot soldering iron to a bit of wiring in her arm with a hiss and a slight waft of smoke.
"What are you, by the way?" Sophie wondered aloud, her brows furrowed in confusion. "You're not Chitauri, certainly not Asgardian. The blue skin makes me think Kree but if so, you're a long way from home, love."

Nebula hadn't been paying much attention to what the woman had been gawking on about. She might not have been a reporter, but she was here for a reason. She probably wanted something from her, just about the same as everyone else who walked in and out of her life. Nebula's patience for other co-existing life forms was growing rather thin these days, so she pretended the woman was out of sight and mind as she prodded and tightened her arm. She would have continued to ignore the woman and move on with her sad, fight club life. That was, until the woman said something that struck a slightly emotional cord with Nebula. She stopped the work she had been doing on her arm and turning her head to the side, Nebula hesitated as she didn't know what to say to this woman. The muscles in her neck flexed as she finally turned her chin over her shoulder to address the woman's concern, "I've been modified a multitude of times, that I've seemed to have forgotten what I truly am. All I know is that I'm a weapon, used over and over and over again at the expense of other's plans," Nebula's sorrow turned into hatred really fast as she snapped a growl in the woman's direction, "And you? Have you come to use me too?" Nebula quipped in a defensive, accusatory tone as she swiveled her body around to directly face the woman.

"Having seen what you're capable of, that wouldn't be very smart of me, would it?" Sophie answered. This woman, alien or robot or otherwise, was shifting from self-doubt to regret to anger in a matter of seconds. And having felt equally lost at one point, Sophie had no wish to take advantage of that. Only to direct it to a more productive outlet.
"You know, we're not so different," she continued, "apart from the obvious. I was once a weapon for Queen and Country, used over and over to fight the battles of men in suits who didn't have the stomach for it. Then I decided to go into business for myself. Which brings me to the point of this little chat.
"Thing is, I'm a man down because of you," Sophie explained. "One of my best mercenaries stepped into the ring with you and ended up in hospital. I didn't believe him when he said a little blue girl did that. I thought it was the painkillers or the head injury talking, yet here you are. So this ... absence on my payroll could be an opportunity for you."

Nebula had laid particularly low the past while, rising to victorious claims in the Grandmaster's Fight Club as she beat one fighter after another like a revolving door. The truth was, she had been screwed over so many times in her life and after what happened with Andro, she was fearful to trust anyone anymore. Her guard was all the way up as she gave the blonde woman the time of day. Nebula had listened to her words as she tried to level with her on a personal level, but Andro had also done the same. And look where that landed her.
"And what makes you think I'm interested in any opportunity you have to offer?" Nebula snapped in her direction. She didn't need any handouts, favors, or anyone feeling sorry for her. After all she had been through, Nebula had rested on the fact that the universe had marked her a lone wolf and there was nothing she could do to change that.

"And what makes you think I'm interested in any opportunity you have to offer?"
"Hmm, well, how should I put this....?" Sophie sighed, crossing her arms while she pondered. "Through a series of events, I recently became the owner of this building, including that wall you just damaged. Now, I can remain hands-off on this little arrangement between you and the so-called Grandmaster. Let the two of you continue to run your little fight club and make sure the city continues to look the other way.
"Or," she countered, "I can have this warehouse bulldozed, sell the lot to the highest bidder, and toss you both out on the street. That is, after I make a call to the relevant government agency to inform them there's an unregistered alien lifeform who poses an imminent threat to innocent citizens. They take such things very seriously these days."
Sophie fixed her with a glare of her own. "Blackmail is a messy business, Nebula. I try to avoid it. But I'm not above using it to get what I want."

Now, I can remain hands-off on this little arrangement between you and the so-called Grandmaster. Let the two of you continue to run your little fight club and make sure the city continues to look the other way."
Nebula straightened upright slowly as the woman mentioned she was the owner of the building. Not necessarily in a submissive way, but out of respect. If this woman was telling the truth and that this was her establishment, Nebula was aware that she needed to exude some level of honor. Especially for allowing this little hobby club to run under her roof. Nebula remained silent, yet gave the woman a look as if to say that her attention was caught and that she was listening with the fullest intent.

"Blackmail is a messy business, Nebula. I try to avoid it. But I'm not above using it to get what I want."
Taken aback slightly, Nebula appreciated that this woman being so bold in her ways as to not beat around any sort of bush. Yet, she did not expect this woman to walk in and blackmail to throw her onto the street. Without the fight club, Nebula knew she would truly be out on her own. No Andro, no Gamora. No one. Once upon a time, she thought she wanted to live the life of a lone wolf. Never had Nebula been so wrong. "And you want...me? Why me?" Nebula questioned the woman, just as she had insecurely questioned everyone who had walked in and out of her life. They all wanted something from her. But at least this woman wasn't hiding it.

"Well, everyone's fueled by something, aren't they? Love, money, power, fame," Sophie replied. "Then there's the rest of us, who want to hurt the world as much as we've been hurt. And I must say, you've got a mean right hook." She only meant to suggest that she might have found a kindred spirit in Nebula, and hopefully it would be enough to lure her in the door for the full sales pitch.
"Of course, I could be wrong. Being the Grandmaster's show pony might be your ultimate goal. But if it's not...." Sophie reached into her purse, withdrew a business card, and held it out to the other woman. "Then we should talk."

"Of course, I could be wrong. Being the Grandmaster's show pony might be your ultimate goal. But if it's not...." "Then we should talk."
Nebula looked to the little card that the woman held between her fingertips. A job was a job, she belonged to no one. Not anymore. As she came to think about the woman's words, Nebula figured the competition was growing rather stale. Her position as a 'show pony' had been overdone. She was sure that the fight club could use a new spark to shake things up, anyways. Her body language remained frozen as her large, black eyes shifted from the card over to the woman, "You said you needed a mercenary...what's the job?" Nebula questioned the woman, insinuating the fact that the proposal had finally peaked her interest.

"You said you needed a mercenary...what's the job?"
"Well, your boss didn't give me much time with you, so..." Sophie's voice trailed off, satisfied that Nebula was at least interested in learning more about the offer. "Let's just say it pays well and you get to inflict as much damage as you want." She laid her business card on the counter and made her way back to the door. "I look forward to working with you, Nebula," Sophie concluded confidently, before letting herself out.

"Let's just say it pays well and you get to inflict as much damage as you want." "I look forward to working with you, Nebula,"
Just as the story was getting good, the blonde woman closed the book. Nebula kept herself collected as she continued to allow her gaze to narrow in on the woman who was making a swift exit out of her propositioning. She was a natural in persuasion, as not everyone could capture and hold Nebula's interest long enough to not suffer a broken jaw. The clicking of the woman's heels faded down the hall, leaving Nebula alone once more. But this time, with swirling thoughts of a necessary career change. Nebula knew she not only needed a breath of fresh air, but a challenge. If she stayed with the Grandmaster, she knew that her metal parts would begin to rust. Then what good would she be when it would be time to finally face her father in battle? Flicking the card upwards between her fingertips, Nebula peered down to read it's contents.
Sophie Briggs, Nebula read the woman's name which was accompanied by a phone number. She stared at the card for a moment longer, however her mind had already been made up just as Sophie had exited the room. Grabbing a duffle bag, Nebula stuffed the few belongings she had acquired over time of her residence on Earth and headed out to tell the Grandmaster she was leaving - and to find a payphone.
