Marvel's Falcon and the Winter Soldier will get a limited series on Disney's streaming service Anthony Breznican
October 31, 2018 at 01:48 PM EDT Fans always love it when the heroes barely can stand each other.
Marvel Studios is planning a limited series based around Anthony Mackie’s Falcon and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier, which means sparks will again fly between Captain America’s two best pals, who have never been more than frenemies.
The show has signed writer Malcolm Spellman, best known for Fox’s Empire, to draft a series around the two characters, sources confirmed to EW. This is part of a number of Marvel-focused shows planned for the upcoming Disney streaming service, which is set to launch next year, according to Variety, which first broke the news.
It’s unclear whether the original actors would return, but that kind of continuity is part of what has made the Marvel Cinematic Universe so enthralling for fans. These programs would have the direct involvement of Marvel Studios maestro Kevin Feige, unlike Netflix’s Daredevil and Jessica Jones, which have a more tangential relationship to the larger MCU.
Other shows planned for the service include a series focused on Loki and Scarlet Witch, and Disney hopes to develop more from fan-favorite characters who haven’t yet had their own standalone movies.
On the set of Avengers: Infinity War, Mackie distilled the love-hate relationship between Falcon and Winter Soldier, who was Cap’s childhood friend from the ’40s, become becoming a brainwashed super-soldier assassin and then finding redemption again.
“I think he and Winter Soldier have come to an understanding that Winter Soldier’s an a–hole and he’ll never trust him,” Mackie says.
Sounds like a good start for a show.

Premiere date has been moved from 2019 to Fall 2020. Now that Endgame has been out long enough to not have to hide spoilers, I'm kind of surprised they haven't changed the title to Captain America and the Winter Solder.
Daniel Brühl is returning to reprise his role as the villain, Baron Zemo.

This looks fun!! I always loved the two characters and thought that I would like to see more of them!
I love how the TV shows now are showing us what happened to the characters after the whole Thanos arc.

So excited for this! Mackie and Stan are equally adept at comedy and action, so it seems like they're going for a lighter tone (which totally worked for "Guardians of the Galaxy"). Also seems like Daniel Bruhl's character is back to finish what he started in "Civil War." "How old are you?" Bucky: "Well...."

A lighter tone is much appreciated! Oh!! Daniel Bruhl is actually one of the few German actors I like!

Great first episode! I'm really looking forward to getting to know the character Falcon better as the series progresses. He's been there alongside the other Avengers through the series, yet I feel like this show will give us a closer look as it centers him in all of his glory. I absolutely am digging the setup for Bucky and his story for the show and I can't wait to see what happens to him and to the connections he is making amends with. I'm also looking forward to seeing the moment where Bucky and Falcon meet and team up, I've been watching interviews with them and the two actors just have some great chemistry. The Marvel movie level action scenes are just a real treat. So many questions from the cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to see episode two!

Loved the first ep! Feels like we barely scratched the surface but that's expected with just a first ep. The action was incredible! I can't wait to start meeting the antagonists and to start seeing what the storyline will be start to piece together. I especially can't wait for Falcon and Bucky to start sharing scenes! Those two are so freakin' entertaining together!
Crazy how the new "Captain America" actor is Kurt Russell's son. I joking said to a coworker, "So wait. Another of Ego's kids.... the step-bro of Star-Lord, is the new Captain America?" XD Seriously though, that poor actor is getting such a heard time right now, but I'm sure he expected that when taking on the role where he'd be the new "Captain America". Nobody wants a new one, really. We all want our O.G. Cap, but if we can't have him, we'd want the man Steve chose to take his place.
Who is this rando taking on Cap's name? Why did the powers that be choose him to be the new icon? Did they give him super soldier serum? Or is this new Captain America supposed to only be a symbol? Are we converting him back to what Steve was in his early days? Just some guy putting on a show like the government or military's dancing monkey?
Can't wait to find out! I also wonder if he's going to end up being nice or if they'll be making his character a real asshole so warrant people's huge dislike of him being chosen. Either way, #NotMyCaptain XD

EPISODE 2 EASTER EGGS
I've been behind on my easter egg vid watch followed by a rewatch of the ep! Just did episode 2. Really appreciated all the background I learned from the vid. I picked up on mentions and references that just went by me because I didn't know what they were and therefore, didn't know how important they were.
Biggest is Power Broker. A big villain in the comics. They mentioned him (or her) but it went over my head. I do wonder who it could be and if we've already met him or her. I also wonder if John Walker aka Wannabe-Cap, has super soldier powers. In the comics, he does, but I know the film and TV adaptations do not always follow the comics.
The way he jumped from that plane, it totally looked like super human strength. There were a couple other instances, such as when he lifted himself off the back of that truck. The last part, looked like he half launched himself. He seems to downplay anything special about himself whenever we see him, which happens to be the times Sam or Bucky are there and therefore, maybe he's hiding it from them? We also saw in that interview how be quickly brushed off some comment about him being special with a smooth segue into some speech about what he stands for. I'm thinking it's a government secret. I could just be looking for things that aren't there, but even before I watched the easter egg vid and knew that he'd gotten the super soldier serum in the comics, we did notice a couple times when it seemed like he had superhuman strength and agility.
John Walker had been acting like a really good guy whenever we saw him, going out of his way to try to be friendly with Sam and Bucky, seeming all noble and genuine in his private talk in the locker room with that woman (wife? girlfriend?). But then he let a little of that asshole/potentially power trip side show when he told Sam and Bucky to stay out of his way.
Hey, dude. Sam and Bucky are free agents doing their thing. YOU'RE the one showing up in places they already were!
I'm thinking he's gonna end up being a bad guy. Most likely not THE bad guy, but definitely not the type worthy of taking on the mantle of our Steve Rogers. Viewers already didn't like him out of the gate, cuz, let's face it, he's #NotMyCap and he's not Sam, who should have picked up the shield and the title. Trying to pull everyone back from that automatic dislike before we even got to hear a word out of him is not easy. I don't think we're meant to like him. I think he's gonna go bad or crazy...
Alrighty, I'm babbling now cuz I'm really tired so I'll wrap it up. XD

EPISODE 3 EASTER EGGS
Just finished rewatching ep 3! Appreciated the video once again. It pointed out some things I'd missed and the view on how Steve Rogers vs John Walker's view of the uniform and shield was great.
We're definitely seeing a darker side to John Walker! I wonder what Sharon is up to. I wonder if she's working for the Power Broker, for real or undercover pretending to be on his or her side. I did, for a second, wonder if maybe SHE might be Power Broker, but I don't think they'd do that.
I loved seeing yet another fictional place made up in the comics. Madripoor looks so pretty with all its neon lights. It has a look that's sort of a combination of Las Vegas and New York.
Alrighty, I'm keeping this one really short cuz it's passed my bedtime. Can't wait for ep 4 at midnight tomorrow!

"You were rich this whole time?!" "I was a baron of Sokovia until the Avengers destroyed it."
I mean, to be fair, Sam and Bucky weren't there at the battle against Ultron but I guess they're guilty by association. Daniel Bruhl's Zemo has been such a pleasant surprise; he instantly made the show ten times more interesting. Good to see the Dora Milaje as well. It makes sense that they would want to keep tabs on the guy who murdered their king.
It took me a while to really understand the premise, so maybe that's why I'm just enjoying watching Zemo steal the show from the two title characters. So five years ago, the Blip happened and half of humanity was wiped out. All this new space meant people were allowed to move around and settle where they couldn't do so before. Then suddenly everyone comes back, and they want their old homes, jobs, etc. back. Which leads to overcrowded refugee camps that are having to rely on a corrupt GRC for resources. And Karli wants things to go back to the way they were with no government, no borders, anarchy basically (?). See, I despise Antifa in real life and I'm not gonna' have much sympathy for these terrorist Flag-smashers. Sam can whine "She's just a kid" all he wants but she knows what she's doing. And frankly, I'm not that horrified by what John Walker did. Should he have used Cap's shield? Of course not. But they killed his friend and have made it clear they'll keep killing until the world is remade the way they want it to be. You can't defeat fascism with more fascism.
Anyway, I love Torrez; he's adorable, so I'm happy to see him in any future version of the Avengers. Sharon's got major issues, but I suppose that's understandable since helping Cap cost her everything. And maybe she is secretly working for Nick Fury. No idea who the Power Broker is, but the Screen Rant guy's guess that it's Zolla's brain in a robot body is as good a theory as any.
But if I may rant for a moment 'cause I know this is a safe space -- the racial profiling scene made me so angry. There was absolutely no reason to include it apart from the writers proving how "woke" they are. Police officers have every right to ask for your ID, especially in a drug-riddled city where they'd want to know if you belong in that neighborhood. A white guy like Bucky is a helluva lot more suspicious on the streets of Baltimore than Sam would be. There were any number of scenarios that would have put Bucky and Sam in a jail cell together if that's what the writers needed to happen. The fact that Marvel chose to push this BS narrative that "all cops are racist" is lazy and just straight-up wrong. Sorry, but I'm really tired of being lectured by self-righteous people who can't be bothered to do a ride-along with officers and see what they have to put up with every day.

I actually don't care much for the plot around that terrorists or revolutionary people as well, and took me also a while to figure what they actually want. So, same here as for primarily enjoying Zemo and also the little Bucky/Sam fights in the beginning. I also agree as for not being shocked about what John Walker did. I just still can't stand the character, idk. XD
And ranting is okay. I can totally see where that comes from and totally understand you're being pissed about this picture they continously give about the police, especially in these times and what's happening in our real world currently. So, don't feel sorry about ranting.

So, after the latest episode I gotta admit that I started sympathizing with John Walker. I know most of you doesn't see it that way but I feel actually sorry for him. If it were somebody else, an Advenger maybe, who would have acted that way, people would sympathize as well I'm sure. Either way, great acting! Now I'm looking forward to see more of him even.
The whole episode felt long stretched to me though. And as much as I loved the Zemo/Bucky scene, it's kinda lame that they just lock him up again. But I know most people see that different as well. However, he had helped them out a lot and the one who acted like wanting to kill him then was not himself but Bucky. I know, for reasons. Still. XD
I hope that we'll get more to see than just a fight between Sam, Bucky and that flag smasher group in the final.

I'm pretty grateful for these "Easter Egg" videos. I never would have known that Sharon Carter hired the French guy to deliver the weapons case to Karli. I feel like the writers have been too focused on virtue-signaling and not presenting a coherent storyline with clear exposition. But that's probably just me. I sympathize with John Walker as well. I think it's interesting that Sam and Bucky decided to follow him to get the shield back instead of, I dunno, following the murderous extremists who just killed an American soldier and who have made it clear that they intend to kill more. They treated John like crap from the first second he showed up just because he wasn't Steve. He was trying to do the right thing, to fulfill his duty to the country and to the legacy of the shield. I guess because he lied to Hoskins' family to give them closure that makes him eeeevil, but I can't bring myself to hate John. And I'm quite curious what the future could hold for him and Julia Louis-Dreyfus' character. I figured she was Hydra but could also be working for the Power Broker. I also think Zemo's exit was a letdown. Maybe Bucky decided the Dora Milaje would never stop coming for him, so he needed to take care of that distraction. At least we know he's on the Raft now and ready to cause more trouble. Training montage -- always fun. Sam and Bucky taking turns tossing the shield -- also fun.

EPISODE 4 REVIEW
Thanks so much for sharing the Screen Crush vids here, Kristi! I've just been too busy to look them up, watch them, then do my rewatch. I finally found a moment to do that this evening.
The Screen Crush vids are making me appreciate the show even more. The writers put so much thought into everything. So much symbolism. I mean, geez, even choosing Baa Baa Black Sheep for Zemo to sing was thought out. I thought he just chose a random a nursery rhyme as a way to put the kids at ease. I also got a better understanding of who the Flag Smashers are and what it is they are wanting.
Just finished rewatching ep 4. While I do understand the reason John Walker went on a rampage and used what's symbolically a defensive object as a offensive one, it was completely wrong of him. Yes, Karli did kill his partner. That was wrong, too, but it had been an accident. Their goal had been to kill John Walker. They were in the middle of a battle. I watched the scene really closely. Karli was surprised at the unfortunate outcome. It hadn't been her intention.
John Walker has clearly had an issue with ego and craves power. He's obviously jealous of Bucky and others with the serum and has expressed that on a few occasions. He thinks because he's been chosen to be the new Cap, that he's entitled to be enhanced and he's been growing more and more bitter about the fact that he's not a super soldier. He had been showing signs of mental instability. The super soldier serum doesn't just make you superhuman, it also enhances who and what you are. I noticed that Walker's negative attributes were suddenly magnified. I knew, in that short moment before he threw the shield and it embedded into the wall, that he'd taken it, just based off his enhanced anger and bitterness.
He let that rage fuel him when he went after that guy for revenge. But even that guy (sorry, the names escape me) tried to make one last plea by saying "it wasn't me!". It wasn't, and Walker knows it was Karli. But still, he gave in to his rage, let it take control of him, and he did something that's probably the darkest thing I've seen in all of MCU. I couldn't help but think the entire time of how horrified Steve Rogers would be to see the symbol of Captain America and the symbol of his shield be used in such a way. They were not in the middle of a battle in that moment. Walker should have detained him, called it in, and had the proper authorities take him in. It's what the real Captain, Steve Rogers, would have done. Hell, it's what probably any of the Avengers would have done, despite the fact a partner was killed. That Flag Smasher was at Walker's mercy. He was already defeated, holding his hands up, pleading. Yet Walker brutally slaughtered him.
That scene along with the final shot of Walker holding the bloodied shield was horrifying and polarizing. It was also just so brilliantly done. I do give Russell props for his acting skills. He subtly does this thing with his head, a sort of tilt and roll that hits his mental instability is getting the better of him and that he's gonna either open his mouth and let slip something he usually wouldn't say or is about to let his mental instability fully take control and gets violent.
So seeing the person John Walker always was and now seeing those negative aspects magnified, I do not sympathize with him at all. I do feel really bad for his partner. It was a sad, unnecessary, accidental loss. I think John Walker taking on the Cap mantle has unleashed his negative aspects that he'd been managing to keep under control when he was just another soldier sadly scarred by war.

EPISODE 5 REVIEW
That fight scene between Bucky, Sam, and Walker was so great!
While seeing Walker at his hearing, that's where I started to gain some sympathy for him. The same people who had sent him off to war to serve our country, then chose him to take up the Cap mantle are now turning their back on him, disavowing any connection to him, stripping him of what he is owed for putting his life on the line for them and our country. And you know the reason isn't because he snapped and did something wrong; it's because he made them look bad. So how do they fix their whoopsie of parading a man out who isn't of the right mind to take on such a weighty symbol? They shun him and put all the blame on him. Take everything away rather than offer help to someone who clearly needs it. He should have been able to keep what he'd rightfully earned for his service AND they should have funded the therapy he needs.
Now he's just gonna spiral worse into darkness as they pushed him to embrace that rage that the serum magnified. It's not the losing a partner in battle that I sympathize with; it's the massive injustice of how they so easily turned their back on him and pushed him out, now as a new symbol of complete fault for what had gone down.
Sorry, I'm not putting this as eloquently as I'd like. My brain is mush on work nights.
Anywho, I loved the training montage and like that video said, I also never thought about how scary and terrifying it is to see that shield flying at you. Rogers handled it so well that I never saw it as dangerous until I saw that thing coming at Sam as if it was gonna take off his head, lol!
I loved Bucky and Sam's reluctant partnership has turned into this quiet friendship. Just silently working alongside each other on the ship, Bucky annoying Sam every now and again by getting all flirty with Sam's sister.
Regarding Sharon Carter, I have no idea if she's a good guy or a bad guy, or a good buy deep undercover as a bad guy... And this new Val, aka Madam Hydra, I believe they also referred to her as in the easter egg vid, she's going to be interesting! The other team's Nick Fury. I wonder if her blank card, white on one side, black on the other, is actually just blank or if there's a way to reveal something hidden on it. It'd actually be pretty funny if it was just blank. The business card of someone who wants to leave no traces. XD
Judging by the comic book history the easter egg vid revealed about Zemo, I don't think this'll be the last we see of him.
Alrighty, off the bed! Can't wait to watch the season finale at midnight tonight!
