"So I know the difference between a driver and a putter. That's a good start, right?"
"Just, uh, be careful where you hit it,"" 'cause we only have so many balls."
"Yeah, that's a good place to begin," Placing his hands on his hips, Jack nodded in approval of what she knew about the game thus far. He was definitely no expert at golf himself, however being a teacher had become his second nature from years in his practice leading future aspiring surgeons to successful careers. Grinning to himself, he glanced down briefly at his shuffling feet before peering back up at Gwen, driver in hand in her assumed stance. For someone who got looped into a game that she didn't want to play in the first place, Jack appreciated her willingness to contribute to his shenanigans. They all needed this breather, after all.
"Now bend your knees slightly," Jack smoothly strolled up beside Gwen who had the basics down pact and just needed a few more pointers, "Lean from your hips slightly and line the club with the ball - yeah, that's right," Jack spoke in encouraging approval as he directed Gwen through the process. Jack didn't think when he moved behind Gwen and gently reached his arms around her to help her position the club down to the ground beside the ball, his teacher's mode had completely taken over at that point, "And now, you're going to turn your shoulders to bring the club all the way up-," His hands placed over hers, Jack assisted Gwen in lifting the club over their heads at about one hundred and eighty degrees, "-Shift your weight into the direction of the ball, straighten, and fire away-," The impact that the golf club made with the ball echoed through the green valley as the little white ball went flying through the air.
"See? First shot and you're already a Drive master," Jack was thrilled with delight in his bubble of bliss. He closed his lips together in a radiant grin as he tilted his chin to look at Gwen. A wave of euphoria captured him for a moment as his eyes locked with hers, before realizing that he was still holding her - and the club. Gently releasing Gwen, he nonchalantly brushed off the moment in an attempt to not make things awkward as he turned his head over towards Hurley.
"Sorry about the ball, man. Want me to go get it?" Jack shrugged apologetically as he broke Hurley's initial request of wasting balls.

"Now bend your knees slightly. Lean from your hips slightly and line the club with the ball - yeah, that's right...."
As Jack began his golf tutorial, it barely occurred to Gwen to be self-conscious about his closeness or his hands covering her own on the club. She was too busy trying not to screw up the shot and embarrass herself. Jack acted as if this sort of hands-on teaching was routine to him, nothing of significance. She might even dare to say it felt safe with his arms around her. And how rare was that feeling in this place? So rare that she had only felt it once before, with Sebastian, but then he'd disappeared.
Dismissing that thought for another time, Gwen closely concentrated on the motion of the backswing and then the follow-through, delighted that she'd managed to connect with the ball at all. She watched as it arced upward, then returned to the ground and continued rolling.
"See? First shot and you're already a Drive master."
"Yes, ha ha, I did it!" she beamed, looking up at Jack and seeing the same joy on his face. The happy, carefree moment passed too quickly, though, as he seemed to remember himself and pull away from her.
"Sorry about the ball, man. Want me to go get it?"
"Well, it's in the fairway, I think," Gwen observed. "So maybe I'll go get it on my way to the green." For whatever reason, she felt comfortable enough to trash-talk her opponent and display some completely unearned bravado. After all, Jack must have known he would win this little game but she felt sure he would be a gracious winner.
"Nah, you're good," Hurley replied, nodding to a nearby bucket of balls.
"Your go, doctor," Gwen prompted, handing over the driver. "Show the amateurs how it's done."

"Your go, doctor,""Show the amateurs how it's done."
Jack nodded in thanks as he retrieved the golf club from Gwen, returning the flirty grin in their banter war before turning his body towards the open landscape. The course field resembled a scene straight from Jurassic Park, and with their luck all they needed to add to this island crashing venture was a couple of T-Rexes. As if Polar Bears and mysterious monsters weren't the least of their worries. He didn't want to lose any more of Hurley's golf balls, so he imagined one from thin air before lining his club up just above the grassy floor. Jack's gaze dipped from the landscape down to the club as he shuffled his feet hip width apart before looking up again to narrow his sight in on where the imaginary ball was targeted to land. Then, bringing the club upwards behind his head, he brought it down to swing over the tips of the blades of grass and across his body making a whooshing sound that echoed through the valley.
"Looks like I still got it, " Jack grinned to himself, impressed at his perfect swing before turning back around to Gwen and Hurley who watched from the sidelines.

"Looks like I still got it."
Hurley tentatively took hold of the offered club for his turn. "So, just so you know, I'm better at designing the course than actually playing it," he said. He tried to remember what he'd learned from observing the both of them, not keen to have Jack's arms around him giving guidance. He balanced a ball on the tee and stuck it in the ground before him. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he brought the club back over his head and then swung it back around, connecting only with a patch of grass.
"Um, okay, that one was just practice," Hurley proclaimed sheepishly. "Let me try again." On his second swing, he managed to hit the ball but instead of sending it upward, it was more of a line drive down the hill.

"Looks like I still got it."
"Oh, very nice," Gwen remarked, offering a small golf clap in response to Jack's shot. "Almost like you knew what you were doing."
"So, just so you know, I'm better at designing the course than actually playing it. ... Um, okay, that one was just practice. Let me try again."
Gwen cringed a bit in sympathy, as she was sure she would have done the same thing without Jack's assistance. "Well, at least the ball's going in the right direction. You're well on your way to par. Or a bogey, at worst," she offered as encouragement. Keeping to her promise to caddy, she threw the golf bag over her shoulder and began to make her way down the hill, trusting the fellas to follow.
Finally spotting her own ball, Gwen set the bag down and took out one of the irons. Not that she really knew the difference, it was just one of the ones that wasn't a driver or a putter. She set her sights on the flag with a brightly-colored Hawaiian shirt waving in the breeze and lined up her shot, keeping in mind that this swing wouldn't require as much force as the one from the tee. Also, it was a solo effort.
She swung the club and watched the ball fly toward the hole, landing wide left of it and rolling beyond. "No, no, no," she protested, but the little bugger insisted on ignoring her words and her hand motions trying to coerce it to the right.

"No, no, no,"
"Nice try," Jack winced in disappointment for Gwen, still sporting a half amused grin. The men had followed Gwen down the hill from the starting point once she began to high tail her way to the ball that had gone astray. The moment that the ball began to veer away from the hole, Jack had an inkling that a one shot for Gwen would be out of the question that turn. Though, he couldn't help but to inwardly chuckle at Gwen's natural charm as she attempted to motion the ball into the hole with hand gestures and pleads then things didn't go as planned, "Close enough now for a hole in one."

"Dude, I've watched 'Caddyshack' like a dozen times," Hurley remarked. "It's not helping." He selected another club from the bag and went to find his own ball further up the hill. Finally locating the white sphere among the green grass, he took his stance and lined up his shot. He drew the club back and then swung it forward, connecting with the ball and driving it ever closer to the hole. "Eh, I shoulda' stuck to backgammon," he sighed. Though his happiness at being able to distract Jack and Gwen from their worries was worth a subpar performance on the course.

"Nice try. Close enough now for a hole in one."
"A hole in four or five, you mean," Gwen groaned. "It's still possible that I'm an excellent putter." She walked over to rejoin them with the bag and stood back to spectate when Hurley chose his club and took his second shot. They were now both on the green but still further from the hole than Jack.
"Dude, I've watched 'Caddyshack' like a dozen times. It's not helping. ... Eh, I shoulda' stuck to backgammon."
"You told me Walt always beats you," Gwen said. "Where's the fun in that?" Hurley had said that the child had an uncanny ability to bend the dice to his will. It was probably just luck, but now Hurley said he was thousands of dollars in debt to Walt. Thankfully there was no money on the line today.
She walked over to Jack as he surveyed the landscape. "Here we are with Jack Shephard, looking very confident in his approach to the first hole," she commented in a hushed and professional tone. "He's well on his way to a birdie if he doesn't let that second shot get away from him."

Jack grinned as he listened to Gwen and Hurley's playful banter. Bending over the bag, he reached in to grab one of the irons from the bag. It was all fun and games, however Jack couldn't help but to admit that he had a competitive side to his nature. After going through Med School, one would have to be competitive to rise above the rest of the class to obtain the best placements on the surgical team in L.A. Lining the club of the iron with the ball, he pulled serious face as he focused in on the alignment to score himself a decant spot for the ball.
"Here we are with Jack Shephard, looking very confident in his approach to the first hole,""He's well on his way to a birdie if he doesn't let that second shot get away from him."
Jack threw a playful grin over his shoulder to Gwen, admiring her professional commentary skills. Reigning himself back into the game, he let out an exhale before tapping the ball moderately. The ball went flying through the air, bumping Hurley's ball out of the way and landing right behind Gwen's.
"Not bad at all," Jack nodded to himself before throwing his glace back over to Gwen once more, "Your move."

"Not bad at all. Your move."
"Hey, that's not cool, dude," Hurley protested, as Jack's ball had connected with his and managed to knock it even further away from the hole. "Isn't that like a scratch or something?" But since the rules of pool didn't apply to golf, he realized he'd have to suck it up and deal with the even longer putt that was now before him.
After obtaining a putter from the bag, he lined up his shot and tried to think about all those southern California nights spent playing mini-golf. This was basically the same thing, just minus the waterfalls and windmills. He swung back and then followed through, willing the ball forward. It continued to roll in the right direction but came to a stop several feet short.

"Not bad at all. Your move."
Gwen returned his grin but then shook her head in amusement at the emergence of Jack's competitive side. Well, that was to be expected of a highly respected surgeon, and someone who had repeatedly been called upon to put the other alpha males on the beach in their place. But the game wasn't over yet.
She watched Hurley take his shot and where his ball ended up. "Well done, mate," she said, taking the putter he offered. "Better to undershoot than over." She took a stance over her ball and tried to line up her shot. After several glances back and forth to judge the distance as best she could, she finally took a swing. For a while, it seemed to be going in the right direction but as it neared the hole, it hooked to the right before rolling to a stop.
Gwen sighed in annoyance, then approached Jack to hand him the club. "Alright, Doctor, if you make this, you win the pack of emergency M&M's I have hidden in my carry-on," she challenged.

"Alright, Doctor, if you make this, you win the pack of emergency M&M's I have hidden in my carry-on,"
"Challenge accepted," Jack verbally sealed the deal before lining up to putt his shot into the hole. He was so close, yet it was still anyone's game even though victory was nearby for him. Not that they were officially playing yet, this was all just a practice run. Yet it did tend to bring out his competitive side, especially when being challenged by his flirty opponent. He lightly tapped the ball and sent it high tailing for the hole. Jack held his breath as the ball slowly inched closer and closer to a hole in one...suddenly, a large gust of wind swept the valley, sending his ball over to the side of the hole.
"Damn it!" Jack uttered in disappointment before turning to Gwen, "Well, I guess someone gets to keep their emergency stash," He chuckled lightly in lieu of the disappointing turn that the game took before walking back to the side to allow for the next player to take the stage.

"Damn it! Well, I guess someone gets to keep their emergency stash."
"Whoa," Hurley remarked as Jack's ball also took a turn away from the hole. "Sorry, dude, the island must be against you." He took possession of the putter and walked over to where his ball was resting. A quick but short swing sent it heading toward the hole, knocking against the flagstick before sinking into the ground. "Yes!" he hissed excitedly before retrieving the ball. "Four's not bad."

"Damn it! Well, I guess someone gets to keep their emergency stash."
"Phew, that's a relief," Gwen exhaled, releasing a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding. Maybe she was starting to care about winning as well. Or at least, not losing her emergency chocolate rations.
"Whoa. Sorry, dude, the island must be against you. ... Four's not bad."
"No, not bad at all," she commented, taking the putter as Hurley handed it over. "Let's see if I can manage the same." Clearly, there was a small but definite incline going toward the hole, so she needed a little bit more force but not too much. She pursed her lips in concentration and took a couple of practice swings, finally connecting and sending the ball rolling. For a moment, it looked like it might be too slow and run out of steam, but in the end it toppled into the hole the same as Hurley's had done.
"Yes, brilliant!" she cried, stopping to high-five Hurley before collecting her ball. She then handed the club over to the doctor with a genuinely encouraging smile. "Four's the lucky number, Jack."

"Yes, brilliant!" "Four's the lucky number, Jack."
"Nice one," Jack grinned at Gwen's enthusiasm as excitement beamed from her smile, proud of her in game accomplishment, "Guess most of my player's luck rubbed off on you guys. We'll see if fourth time's the charm," Of course their practice run was all in fun, however Jack realized he needed to oil up on his putting skills. He felt a little flustered as something seemed to be throwing him off his game. Or someone for that matter, with a charming smile and chocolate bribes. Gwen and Hurley fell silent as Jack lined his club up with the ball and with one final, fourth tap the ball sank into the hole with the other two.
"Well I guess that's game," Jack went to retrieve the balls from the hole, handing one to Hurley and the other to Gwen, "You sure you still wanna be on caddy duty?" Jack shot playfully in Gwen's direction with a grin as he gently placed the golf ball into her hands.

"Well I guess that's game. You sure you still wanna be on caddy duty?"
"Nah, dude. You still got a whole 'nother hole. Think I'm gonna' sit this one out. You two should keep playing, though."
They could have just called it a draw, put the clubs back in the bag and gone back to work. But Gwen was enjoying herself for the first time in ... well, a while. And as long as no one needed urgent medical attention, why not stay out here for just a little longer?
"I think, in the interests of quality control for Hurley's work," Gwen stated, "we should probably go ahead and play the next hole. And if anyone needs you, they know where to find you. A doctor out on the golf course -- such a cliche, Shephard." She clicked her tongue and shook her head in mock disappointment, hefting the bag onto her shoulder and walking past him.
Once she'd joined Hurley at the tee, she allowed him to place the ball on the ground and hand her one of the drivers. She focused her attention and tried to remember everything Jack had showed her before about how to swing the club. Everything other than the feeling of his hands on hers. Gwen took a deep breath, tried to settle into a correct stance, swung the club back in an arc, and then swung it forward. The ball didn't travel very far down the fairway, but at least it was still in the so-called fairway.
"Your turn, Coach," Gwen said, stepping aside to allow Jack to make his shot.

"I think, in the interests of quality control for Hurley's work," "we should probably go ahead and play the next hole. And if anyone needs you, they know where to find you. A doctor out on the golf course -- such a cliche, Shephard."
"Fair enough, I don't want to disappoint anyone by not living up to the cliché after all," Jack nodded his head in agreement as they picked up their pace towards the next hole. Thoughts about his job back on the beach and the people who may need him crept in spontaneously now and again. He was happy to have Gwen to remind him that taking a break was completely acceptable. Letting his guard down for relaxation time for too long worried him slightly, as that tended to be when shit could hit the fan at times. Facing the fact that he simply could not fix everything grew harder in his leadership role. Yet, he had to try and relax. Everyone would be here soon anyways. What was taking Linda so long?
Jack found his stance beside Hurley, placing both hands onto his hips. He watched as Gwen retrieved the club from Hurley with care, before getting her head back into the game. Jack grinned to himself as he could see the wheels turning in her brain, remembering all the intricate details of honing the skill to make a great shot. Her club traveled behind her momentarily as she swung it with forceful motion to hit the ball, landing on the fairway.
"Your turn, Coach,"
"I'll try my best," Jack winked at Gwen amidst the light, competitive ribbing that he was enjoying. Fixing the handle of the club between his palms, his feet spread hip width distance apart once more in front of the little white ball that perched itself onto the tee. He didn't put too much thought into this fun swing as the brought the club back to drive the end of it into the ball. He didn't send it flying to hard, but just enough to bump into Gwen's ball, sending hers travelling closer in the direction of the hole.

"I'll try my best."
"Oi, this isn't billiards!" Gwen protested, once she and Hurley had stopped laughing about Jack's tee shot colliding with her own. "Hurley, I feel like you should put something in the rule book about this. Not that I don't appreciate the assist."
But her smile faltered as she saw someone approaching over the hill. The bespectacled, nervous chap in dark pants and a plaid shirt who'd already been pestering Jack all morning with one health concern after another. She was almost certain this was not one of Linda's recruits.
"Hey, Doc!" the man shouted. "There you are. Somebody said you went this way. Listen, that rash of mine, it's starting to spread. It's like the size of a grape...." His prepared speech seemed to be cut short as he took in his surroundings. "What are you guys doing? Are you playing golf?"
Gwen cleared her throat and straightened her posture, moving ever so slightly in front of the golf bag as she exchanged a conspiratorial glance with her medical mentor. Like teenagers caught somewhere they shouldn't be, but feeling very little remorse about it.

"Hey, Doc!" "There you are. Somebody said you went this way. Listen, that rash of mine, it's starting to spread. It's like the size of a grape....""What are you guys doing? Are you playing golf?"
Suddenly, the groups attention pointed to a wild Sullivan that suddenly appeared from the bush. Jack held his golf club loosely in his hand by his side, relaxing his shoulders he turned to Gwen and Hurley and bore a laid back smile on his face before returning his gaze back to the confused hypochondriac. Jack felt that he finally got back the feeling of what it was like to take a break, even if it was just for a while. He had almost run himself into the ground taking care of everyone else that he forgot to take care of himself.
"Yeah," Jack confirmed and couldn't help but to smile. Jack almost felt laughably ridiculous, to be crashed on an island surrounded by grief, monsters and rashes and here they were - playing a round of golf. Yet, grief, monsters and Sullivan's rash could wait just a while more. For now, they all needed to enjoy this escape because tomorrow would always be uncertain, "You wanna play?"

"Yeah. ... You wanna play?"
Gwen felt her posture stiffen, ready to be reprimanded by another unhappy customer. Only in this case, she didn't have the option of handing out extra pretzels, complimentary sodas, or a voucher for dinner. She exchanged an anxious glance with Hurley as they awaited the man's reply to Jack's offer. He had sought out the doctor's opinion on everything else so far, so Gwen hoped that was still the case.
"Can I?" Sullivan asked, hesitantly.
"Of course!" Gwen replied with a beaming smile. "It's part of the all-inclusive Oceanic island experience. Be one of the privileged few to play on this new course designed by our very own Hugo Reyes," she boasted, placing a hand on Hurley's shoulder. "And for one day only, a private lesson with our club pro, one-time Pebble Beach champion Jack Shephard." She grinned at the doctor as she handed the driver she had used over to Sullivan.
He accepted it with a short laugh. "Eh, I guess I can give it a shot. Not much else going on. Hey, you ever been to Augusta, Doc? Beautiful! The pictures don't do it justice." And just like that, the man's rash and other concerns seemed to fade.

"And for one day only, a private lesson with our club pro, one-time Pebble Beach champion Jack Shephard."
Jack returned the sweet smile from Gwen that was shining his way for a moment before their new competition was handed a driver. Jack wasn't entirely sure what to expect from this afternoon or even if Linda had managed to round up anyone else. He just knew that this slice of relaxation was like a breath of fresh air and a calm in their storm. He stood in place as Sullivan grabbed the driver and found his place amongst their small yet growing golf crew.
"Eh, I guess I can give it a shot. Not much else going on. Hey, you ever been to Augusta, Doc? Beautiful! The pictures don't do it justice."
"Can't say that I have, but I'll take your word for it," Jack nodded towards Sullivan as he watched the man place a ball down and line it up with the end of his driver. He was pleasantly surprised that he wasn't getting drilled about remedies to cure the rash that had him concerned. Yet, Hurley's golf course seemed to be the cure of worries at the moment as they all forgot about their troubles for a moment to enjoy a laugh and some fun. "Nice one, man," Jack commented as Sullivan sent his ball flying through the air, "Who's next?"

"Can't say that I have, but I'll take your word for it. ... Nice one, man. Who's next?"
"Well, with Hurley out, I think we're all on our second shot," Gwen advised. Hurley nodded in agreement and was kind enough to take over bag-hauling duties as the other three headed down the hill. "So, Mr. Sullivan, you must be rather serious about this game. The Masters certainly isn't an easy ticket to get," she remarked, partly out of curiosity but partly to keep him from needling Jack any further.
Sullivan waved his hand dismissively. "Ah, I did the taxes for one of those ESPN anchors," he replied. "Guess I got him a good enough refund that year, he wanted to thank me. I doubt I play as much as the doc here."
"Still, I would welcome your input," Gwen prompted. "With this distance to the hole, do you think seven- or five-iron?"

"With this distance to the hole, do you think seven- or five-iron?"
Jack stood in between Gwen and Sullivan as they immersed themselves into conversation. Which was fine by the Doctor, as he felt a relief that he was able to take a backseat every now and then thanks to grace given by friends, and in this case, his cute and bubbly health care assistant. His gaze panned from Gwen to Sullivan as she picked his brain for some golfing advice, and Jack was no professional but he knew his way around a course or two from those doctor's luncheons. Jack grinned to himself and decided to save Sullivan from his painful hesitation.
"Well, the five iron will get you pretty far if you get a lucky shot. Though, the seven iron is fairly easy to master," Jack nodded at Gwen before turning his head over to Hurley, "Hey, Hurley, bring the bag on over? Gwen needs an upgrade," Jack motioned over Hurley with a gesture of his forehead to come over to where they stood.

Sullivan nodded in apparent agreement. "Yeah, you should be good with a mid-iron like a 5 or 7. Too bad this person didn't pack some hybrids; we could have all used some 'rescue' clubs. Am I right, Doc?" he joked, chuckling at his own golf pun.
"You know, you've both been terribly un-helpful," Gwen sighed, obtaining a random club from the bag after Hurley had set it down. "And given our current circumstances, I'd rather not rely on luck." She planted her feet before the ball, taking a couple of practice swings, then finally hit it further down the grassy slope. It landed quite a ways shy of the hole, but at least having a long putt ahead of her was better than overshooting it completely.
"Jack, you're up," Gwen remarked, returning her club to the bag. "Could you try not to hit mine this time, please? I fear the doctor thinks we're playing croquet," she confided in a clearly audible whisper to Sullivan.

***Bennett, Boone, Charlie, Kate, Linda, Shannon arrive from F3 - Area of Survivor's Camp***
Arriving a short time ago with the crew from the beach, Kate had already settled into spectating. Gwen, Hurley, Sullivan, and a few others from the caves already looked well settled into playing, waiting on Jack to take his turn, so Kate was fine with just observe. This was the most excitement--good excitement, not the dangerous sort that seemed to be the only kind up to now--that they'd had since ending up here.
Everyone seemed lighter and happier than she'd ever seen them. Carefree, even. Arms lightly crossed, her gaze mostly held on Jack while an amused grin unknowingly stayed on her lips. He and Michael, both with comically serious expressions, were quietly discussing something she couldn't hear from her place, but the way their eyes wandered to the golf bag a couple times, she figured it was regarding the choice of clubs. Most already in the game seemed too absorbed to notice new arrivals.

As the other survivors had followed Linda's lead and began to arrive at the all-new golf course, Gwen found herself back in the role of "air hostess," even though they were firmly on solid ground rather than 30,000 feet in the air. She greeted those she already knew and welcomed those she didn't quite know. It was a comfort, a well-practiced act, that was also a distraction from whatever relationship might be forming between her and the handsome doctor.
As Jack conferred with Michael over his next shot, she walked over to where Linda was standing beside her brother, Charlie. "I admit I had my doubts," Gwen began, "but you and Hurley seem to have found the perfect way to get people's minds off their troubles. Well done, Miss Pace."

"I admit I had my doubts," "but you and Hurley seem to have found the perfect way to get people's minds off their troubles. Well done, Miss Pace."
Standing with her bother Charlie and the rest of the group they had reunited with, Linda smiled as she looked to the side to bring into view the face to match the familiar, cheery voice. Gwen always had the brightest things to say, and Linda was aware that it was apart of her job. However, Linda appreciated the ray of sunshine Gwen brought to the group as she openly showed her true, caring colors on repeat. " It was mainly Hurley. I simply helped," Linda gave a short shrug of her shoulders as she didn't like to take much credit. She was just happy to be apart of something that didn't contribute to their doom and gloom of their unavoidable situation.
"Speaking of help, which club do you reckon I should I use? There's a jar of peanut butter on the line and Charlie seems to think he's got this in the bag." Bending down, Linda picked up one of the clubs from the ground as a spirited grin spread across her face, speaking loud enough for her brother to hear her playful remark.

This is a problem, man.
"Yeah," Jack nodded his head seldomly as his complexion had grown rather serious, as if Michael who was standing before him was bearing some tough weight for him to carry.
I mean, I know what I'd do, but it's got to be your call.
Standing in one place, Jack paused for a moment in contemplation, as if the entire world was dependent on his next move before making his final decision, "Okay, give me a seven iron."
You got it.
Jack couldn't help but to crack a slight smile as Michael departed for a moment, only to bring him back the iron that he had requested. Michael was a fun guy, and Jack appreciated his sense of humor whenever it made an appearance. He had gone through so much with Walt the past couple of weeks that Jack was relieved that Michael was taking some time for himself with the adults.
Placing the club of the iron next to the ball, Jack raised a hand up to his forehead to shield the sun out of his eyes before calling out to Hurley, Gwen and the group of spectators that seemed to be growing by the minute, "Hey, heads up over there!" Jack stretched the handle in his hands backward for a wide swing, followed by a swift hit of the ball as it traveled through the air. The ball bounced a few times before finding a temporary place to rest on the green, "Your shot," Jack looked to Michael and grinned before handing the club over to him.
As Jack and Michael approached the ball sitting on the green, they came closer to the crowd that had gathered. Everyone appeared to be worrying about nothing except for having a good time - Bennett, Boone, Shannon, Linda, Charlie - Jack reveled in the moment as it was refreshing to see everyone dawning smiling faces. Jack's eyes finally locked with the familiar, freckled brunette and as he saw her he could feel the spirit in his chest lift. An uncontrollable smile stretched across his face as he walked up to greet her, "Hey," Jack greeted her with a softness that his tone only found when he spoke with her above everyone else, as he found a place right beside her while Michael took his turn "When did you show up?"
