"Sometimes you spy a strip of land and I like to imagine what adventures may lie there, or who might call it home. And sometimes..."
"Eric?" Rapunzel looked away from the young man's face to follow his gaze over the ocean. Were those ships? Still a distance away but Rapunzel could tell that they did not fly the purple and yellow flag of Corona. Quietly she affirmed, "Those are not my parents' ships..." The look on Eric's face and the silence of his tongue set Rapunzel on edge. There was something wrong. "Eric, should we be worried? Who do those ships belong to?"

Prince Eric
He squinted but pulled up his spyglass to get a good look at their company.
"Those are not my parents' ships... Eric, should we be worried? Who do those ships belong to?"
Without looking away he took a moment longer and sighed. "Those ships fly the banner of King George," he said flatly. "There are no color's we could raise to dissuade pursuit from the likes of them..." He lowered his glass and watched a moment longer. They were gaining and there was a pair of them, frigates both.

"Those ships fly the banner of King George," "There are no color's we could raise to dissuade pursuit from the likes of them..."
"I don't understand..." Rapunzel began hesitantly, "Why would King George have ships in Corona? We do no trade with his kingdom but we're not political enemies either." In the few years that she had been back at the palace, her father had been teaching her quite a bit about Corona's neighboring countries and politics. After all, she was going to be Queen someday and she had a lot of catching up to do. Everything she had heard about King George pointed at a selfish, untrustworthy ruler but to out right sail uninvited into a well-guarded kingdom and pursue a ship just seemed to be of very bad judgement. The two ships flanked their vessel on either side. This would be interesting.

Prince Eric
"I don't understand... Why would King George have ships in Corona?
Eric saw her wheels turning and he knew she wouldn't buy anything but the truth. "As long as we're being honest?" A lengthy pause followed as he thought just how much of the truth was needed. Then it dawned on him that she had said those were not her parents ships... The Dark One had not specified if she was alone in that tower but he had to assume her "parents" were of the upper class to own ships... "We've crossed paths over the past months and they have good reason to be here, it would not have anything to do with Corona..."
The Captain shouted for stations. The bell tolled and the crew snapped to it. They were in deep water so the lower gun deck would be useless. Eric gritted his teeth, without the 16 pounders they would have to make do the best they could. "Run out the guns! Dismantling shot, if you please Mr. Larsen!" He turned back to Rapunzel. "We are going to hope the wind is in our favor Rapunzel, perhaps you would prefer to remain in my Cabin?"

"Run out the guns! Dismantling shot, if you please Mr. Larsen!"
Rapunzel's eyes widened as the deck exploded into a flurry of activity. The crew ran to and fro, in accordance to the directions their captain was yelling out to them. Though she didn't know for certain what Eric had ordered, once the men began rolling out the canons she had the general idea. And the distinct feeling that it was going to end badly. They would be outgunned and even if they were only to try to debilitate King George's ship there would be retaliation. There had to be another way...
"We are going to hope the wind is in our favor Rapunzel, perhaps you would prefer to remain in my Cabin?"
Suddenly her eyes locked on a target aboard one of the adjacent ships. A face that she recognized. Though they were not allies, the two kingdoms were cordial enough to have small bits of interaction through different celebrations and events. At the time, Rapunzel had not enjoyed her meetings with the gentleman at all. Even she, who always tried to see the good in people, found him to be a philanderer who cared little about anything other than getting gold for his kingdom. But now she was glad that she hadn't let Eugene follow through on his threat to break his nose.
"It is very nice to see you, Prince James, but I must wonder what you are doing flanking our vessel." Her voice carried across the water and she was pleased to see that the mention of his name had captured the young prince's attention. His eyes scanned across the deck before they fell on her with surprised recognition.
"Princess Rapunzel! What are you doing onboard with this band of pirates?"
The disdainful way that he said pirates hinted that he had wanted to use a different word that even he would not with a lady present. "That is not of your concern, sir, but I assure you that it is palace business. Now I must ask you to leave us to our task."
The prince looked conflicted, not wanting to put his kingdom in a bad situation with the powerful Corona. "I'm afraid I cannot do that. These thieves have raided from us for the last time. They must stand trial for their crimes."
Rapunzel shot a look at Eric. This would be more difficult than she anticipated.

Prince Eric
The enemy was upon them. The guns trained up at the frigate's sails. All that stood between them and the smoke and fire was his command. The men were ready. Eric lifted his hand but before he could drop it, the signal, Rapunzel called out to George's ship off to the starboard side.
"It is very nice to see you, Prince James, but I must wonder what you are doing flanking our vessel."
He froze. The only sound that of the wind and sea. Then came the enemy captain's response.
"Princess Rapunzel! What are you doing onboard with this band of pirates?"
He was unnerved by the fact that this was no normal foe. Prince James, the King's own son out to exact his father's brand of justice. But it was his words not his steel that took Eric's breath away. Princess Rapunzel!
"That is not of your concern, sir, but I assure you that it is palace business. Now I must ask you to leave us to our task."
He could see his own thoughts mirrored on the faces of his crew that stood closest. He turned to Rapunzel and could only stare in amazement. What had he gotten into? He was between her parents now, a King and Queen and the Dark One. He could not think of a positive outcome for himself now. If he succeeded the girl would be lost. And he would bring a world of political trouble against his father, the very one he had set out to save. If he failed she would still be gone and his own life and his father's were forfeit.
"I'm afraid I cannot do that. These thieves have raided from us for the last time. They must stand trial for their crimes."
Rapunzel turned to face him at that moment. She looked to him for aid in her negotiations. Eric had to act fast to avoid a fight. He decided to take a stab in the dark. "You may have grievances with us Prince James, but this is no pirate vessel! It sails under the command of the King of Corona. We have indeed been requisitioned for official business. You have little choice but to stay your vengeance or be responsible for an act of war!" He took a knee before the Princess and his men did the same. He prayed the display would be enough to placate that arrogant Prince.

As the crew dropped to their knees, Rapunzel brought her gaze back to the flanking vessel. Biting back a giggle at the cod-fish like look that appeared on Prince James' face, she straightened her shoulders and called back, "He speaks the truth. I am sure that my father would not be please to hear how you have detained us already from our mission. Time is of the essence."
Prince James, quickly regaining his senses, seemed none too pleased himself as he told his men to stand down. "You can't hide behind the crown forever, pirate scum. You have not heard the last of me." With a final polite, but forced, nod at Rapunzel, the two ships set off. Rapunzel let out the breath she felt like she had been holding since the encounter began.
"That was close," she said to Eric as George's ships began to fade into the distance. "Whatever did you do to make King George so angry with you?"

Prince Eric
"You can't hide behind the crown forever, pirate scum. You have not heard the last of me."
The captain's eyes narrowed at the derogatory accusation. That man had best be grateful for Rapunzel's presence. Eric was not a violent man but he would be happy to make James pay dearly for that remark. Outgunned or not. "His day's of speaking so harshly to anyone he has to share the air with are drawing to a close," he said as he watched the ships pull off their pursuit. With a look from him, the men stood and proceeded to stow the guns and get the ship moving at full sail.
"That was close... Whatever did you do to make King George so angry with you?"
Eric leaned against the rail and tilted his head in Rapunzel's direction. "Ours is a small land, Princess." He politely emphasized her title. "Having a King like George for a neighbor has never been easy. I'd suppose he would have just liked to swallow us up but even he is not in a place to carry out such a bold venture just yet." Eric wasn't used to being so forthcoming but he just couldn't lie to the woman. She brought out the best in him he thought. He had been starting to forget what that was like...
"For our part... We were in need of supplies and decided to relieve George of his burden. The local's had been paying into the stores without so much as a scrap of grain in return when times got hard. We took only what we needed but made sure the storehouse was made available to the villagers nearby when we chased his guards into the woods. He left them to the food and dispatched those warships to take it out of our hides instead. About as generous as he gets I would imagine, but he had little choice."

"That's...that's terrible." Rapunzel whispered, horrorstricken. How could such a powerful man let his own people starve? She made a mental note to mention it to her father upon her return. Perhaps he would have a way to help the people of King George's kingdom. It wasn't lost on her that Eric was beginning to open up so she decided to push him a bit farther.
"You know, you don't act at all like I expected a pirate to. What land do you come from?" She knew it was risky, actively asking for information like that. Eric might shy away from her completely. But her curiosity was getting the better of her and if they were to spend this entire voyage together, she would like to know a bit more about her traveling companion.

Eric
"That's...that's terrible." Rapunzel whispered.
She seemed very introspective then turned her eyes towards him once more.
"You know, you don't act at all like I expected a pirate to. What land do you come from?"
Her inquiry made him think of his past. Of growing up in the palace. Things seem so much simpler in retrospect. Before he knew it he was letting her get a glimpse of that past that raced through his mind's eye. "I wasn't always as you see me now... My family has called Chillon Castle home for the last 200 years. It is a coastal kingdom so just about all of its citizens are skilled mariners. It seemed only natural to want to..." he trailed off.
He could feel his blood drain from his face as he realized he may have said too much! He had let himself get carried away with thoughts of home, of happier times. It was not a hard thing to do normally but it didn't help he felt the need to get so much off his chest. He wished he could continue but he had never been so torn. He needed to keep who he was and who he had left behind separate. After a long moment with his thoughts he sighed. "How to be able to go back? To amend life's grave mistakes... An age old question I am sure." he spoke more to himself than to Rapunzel at that point. He gave her a somber smile and then slowly began to turn to take his leave.

"I wasn't always as you see me now... My family has called Chillon Castle home for the last 200 years. It is a coastal kingdom so just about all of its citizens are skilled mariners. It seemed only natural to want to..."
So he was a prince. A prince turned pirate. Rapunzel knew she should have been more surprised but somehow, she wasn't. Something in his demeanor spoke of royalty, she just hadn't noticed it until he had pointed it out. As if he had just realized he had made some grave mistake, Eric's face turned ashen. Immediately, Rapunzel felt bad for coaxing him into admitting something that he hadn't wanted to.
"How to be able to go back? To amend life's grave mistakes... An age old question I am sure."
She wasn't sure if he was still speaking to her but as he began to walk away she called his name, "Eric?" It only took a few steps before she caught up to him and she took his hands in her own before looking up at him. "You can't go back. Believe me, I can't begin to tell you how many times I have wished that my life had been different. Until I realized that everything that has happened to me, every choice I made, has shaped who I am. Without all that, I wouldn't be me. Without the choices you made, you wouldn't be you. And even if you don't believe it, that would be a sad thing." She paused, letting him take that in before continuing, "But there is always a way to make things right in the present. It may not be the clearest answer, but it is there and I know that you will find it." She began to walk back towards the cabin but stopped suddenly, looking back over her shoulder, "I, for one, am grateful for the choices you have made. Otherwise, we probably would have never met. And I'm glad to know you, Eric."

Eric
He hadn't gotten far before Rapunzel called to him.
"Eric?" She caught up to him and took his hands in hers, looking up at him. "You can't go back. Believe me, I can't begin to tell you how many times I have wished that my life had been different."
His chest tightened, how can it be that everything he heard spoke of the betrayal he dealt to this pour woman? Rapunzel kept his gaze held with her own as she went on.
"Until I realized that everything that has happened to me, every choice I made, has shaped who I am. Without all that, I wouldn't be me. Without the choices you made, you wouldn't be you. And even if you don't believe it, that would be a sad thing."
He did believe it, with every fiber. And his resolve was weakening... Or strengthening. He did not know which...
But there is always a way to make things right in the present.
To make things right... The answer was clear to him. For the first time he found the strength to make the decision he felt was right. Since he had run from his responsibilities he finally understood the lesson he was meant to learn. It wasn't about him being on high for all to see and obey. He had not wanted that but he didn't understand then... What it meant was to be what was needed by those who relied on you most. That was all that his father had wanted for him to know. And he had turned his back on it all. Not again, he thought! "You are right Rapunzel. I need to make something right at this very moment. Mr Rand!" he shouted to the helmsman. "Turn this ship around, if you please. We are going back!"

"Back? What? Eric, what is going on?" Rapunzel was throughly confused as the ship began to turn back towards the city of Corona. This made no sense "What about your father? We have to try to heal him." The men were running about the ship, steadying it for their sudden roundabout. Maybe she had said that wrong thing? Maybe Eric didn't want her help anymore because she had pried too much? But why, after everything he'd done to find her, would he suddenly just throw that all away? She fully turned back to face the young pirate captain, hoping that he'd explain.

Eric
"Back? What? Eric, what is going on? What about your father?" Rapunzel exclaimed as the ship reversed it's course.
She needed the whole truth. And it pained him now for he knew she would surely despise him for it. But it was more important that she be safe. "Rapunzel you do not deserve what would befall you should we continue on that path," he said slowly as he met her gaze once more. "It's true that my father was dying and in my desperation I made a deal with one so foul his wickedness can only be surpassed by one in my eyes. Me. The Dark One saved his life but in exchange he had need of you, of your powers. I did not know you or what his full need was, but I had no choice. For what is done can be undone, and my father's life and my own exist now only by his mercy. But that neither excuses or changes anything." He let this sink in.
As so many emotion's must be boiling up within her he just wanted to get everything out while she would listen. "You were a prisoner your whole life and that is not to be your fate again." He wanted her to be free, mind, body, and soul. He would not employ guilt to justify anything he had done. Even though he knew Rumpel would find him and his fate was sealed. There was no were he could hide. The saving grace was she did not resemble her former self. She could return to her parents and her husband and endure. "I am sorry for everything Rapzunzel." Suddenly Eric felt a change wash over them. It was not the feeling of one having come clean however. It was the wind. It stopped and the sails that had a moment before been full, now hung uselessly from the masts above them. Something was very wrong.

"What a touching speech, Captain!", suddenly a sarcastic creepy voice sounded from above them.
Of course something was very wrong. Something went very wrong to be exact. Rumpelstiltskin had observed them for a while, sitting on a mast... and wondering about the ship's course.
With a strange tone in his voice, undefinable if he was amused or angry, he sayed: "Actually... I did not know my castle was on that way." Rumpelstiltskin pointed at the course the ship was reversing to. Getting cold feet on delivering a foreign girl after bandied some little words? What kind of a coward this Eric seemed to be... more than he ever could have been. But that times were past anyway. Now he was the one, the others greatly feared. A grin appeared on the Dark One's lips, as he thought about this. "So, tell me, my son...", he continued, leaning over the mast to watch at the Prince urgently. "What is this about?" A surrounding gesture with his hand accompanied his words, pointing downward at them.

"Rapunzel you do not deserve what would befall you should we continue on that path," "It's true that my father was dying and in my desperation I made a deal with one so foul his wickedness can only be surpassed by one in my eyes. For what is done can't be undone, and my father's life and my own exist now only by his mercy. But that neither excuses or changes anything."
A blossom of fear immediately opened in Rapunzel's heart. Not at Eric's admission but at the idea that there really was someone out there who needed her powers badly enough that he would hang two lives in the balance to get her. How very fortunate she felt that he had sent a good man to retrieve her. While she did feel the smallest hint of the sting of betrayal, Rapunzel knew that Eric had his reasons, all of them good, and that it was much easier to agree to that kind of desperate situation when not having a face to put to the life you were meant to capture. If the situations were reversed, if her parents or Eugene had been in danger and that was the only option to save them, Rapunzel was not sure that she wouldn't have made the same choice. But ultimately Eric was showing his true colors in turning the ship around. He was a good man, as she had thought and she didn't wish to see his life ended in order to save her own. There had to be something that they could do that would ensure both their safety.
"You were a prisoner your whole life and that is not to be your fate again." "I am sorry for everything Rapzunzel."
But before she could assure him of her forgiveness, an eerie stillness feel over the deck. Goosebumps appeared on Rapunzel's forearms, even without the aide of wind or breeze. The chilling voice cut through the dead air like a blade, causing Rapunzel to start and frantically look for its source.
"What a touching speech, Captain!"
The blossom of fear gained grip on her heart as her eyes fell on the strange looking man up in the ship's riggings. Any doubt as to who this man was rapidly dispelled. Subconsciously, she drew back towards the young pirate captain who's name warily slipped from her lips even as her eyes were trained on the golden skinned man above. "Eric..."
"Actually... I did not know my castle was on that way." "So, tell me, my son...", "What is this about?"
There was no mirth in the grin that he sent in their direction. It was obvious that they had been caught in the act of escaping.

Eric
The captain felt very cold despite the warm sun as he heard that familiar voice rain down on them.
"What a touching speech, Captain!"
Eric forced his eyes up to the lines above them. He was reluctant because of the confirmation he was afraid he'd see. He had hoped he was just hearing his own vivid fears playing out. As if the nail in his coffin, Rapunzel reacted in a similar fashion. Sure enough there it sat. The last person he wanted to see...
"Eric..." she said as she drew back towards the young pirate. Her eyes were set on the man above.
"Actually... I did not know my castle was on that way," the Dark One taunted from his perch as a grin appeared on his lips. "So, tell me, my son...", he continued, "What is this about?"
Eric's first real step was drawing his sword. "I think you know very well what this is about." The Prince's own words did little to back up his action but there was no turning back, not now. Not for him. He moved closer to Rapunzel, putting himself as much between them as he could. "Her power's are gone and she can't help you. It's too late. You won't be taking her!"

"I think you know very well what this is about.", the Prince replied, drawing a sword against him.
Rumpelstiltskin uttered a high voiced laugh, feeling amused about this little light of a man was threaten him. "You really think your little toothpick would impress me?", he made him wonder. He didn't make a secret about he was at an advantage. Besides that, everyone knew that anyway. Everyone knew the Dark One and his irrevocable deals. So even this wasn't able to be broken. Again a grin was showing on his lips. Just as Rumpelstiltskin wanted to give another derision, the Prince preempt him.
"Her power's are gone and she can't help you. It's too late. You won't be taking her!"
Rumpelstiltskin nearly started to laugh again because of this lie, as his view past to the hided woman behind. The grin died away. Only now he realized the meaning of the Prince's words. He not seemed to be amused anymore...
And then all of a sudden his magic brought him right in front of Rapunzel, urgently watching her short brown hair, touching the magicless hair-ends. No. That was not possible. That was not part of his plan. Of their deal. No, no, no! This moment Rumpel was too angry to pay attention to Eric. He would get what he deserved, soon enough.

A gasp escaped her as the stranger disappeared from the mast only to materialize right in front of her. No longer did he seemed entertained by Eric's attempt to protect her and his sudden seriousness only served to provide more worry. Reflexively, she jerked her head away as he began to grasp at her short brunette hair. His attentions unnerved her. But if her power was all that he wanted, perhaps they would make it out of this yet.
"It's true," she confirmed Eric's claim, "My hair was cut long before Eric found me. It has been over three years since I escaped that tower and I've possessed no magic since. So, I am sorry but I don't think that I can help you Mr....umm..." Rapunzel's voice trailed off with the realization that she didn't know this man's name and she fumbled remembering what Eric had referred to him as. "...Dark One."

Eric
In the blink of an eye The Dark One was amongst them. The captain spun around and whipped his blade out to the side. He did not want to appear threatening at that moment. The prince did not want to cause any harm to Rapunzel. Rumpelstiltskin's hands ran through her hair, his expression began to simmer. His eyes did not hide the fire that burned within. Eric needed to find a way to placate the beast.
"Wait!" he exclaimed as an idea manifested itself. Eric turned to Rand and motioned for him bring the chest. The helmsman ran below and returned dropping the spoils from the tower before them. "That is everything we found from the tower. Including the strands of hair. Surely that can serve you best. Take it." The captain said, hoping they would be left in peace.

"It's true, my hair was cut long before Eric found me. It has been over three years since I escaped that tower and I've possessed no magic since. So, I am sorry but I don't think that I can help you Mr....umm...
Rumpelstiltskin raised his eyebrow, kept watching her.
"...Dark One.", she ended her sentence.
Three... Years...? Rumpelstiltskin was angry about he was in the lack of knowledge this time.
"Wait!"
Just as he wanted to touch her hair again, like it has to be proved a second time, the Prince's words sounded in his ears... let him looking inward.
"That is everything we found from the tower.", Eric exclaimed, pointing at a chest, his helmsman was dropping behind him. "Including the strands of hair. Surely that can serve you best. Take it."
"Oh! Is that so?!", Rumpelstiltskin suddenly turned around, raising up his voice to an overstated level. Part of his amusement came back to his face, as he slowly approached the Prince. When he was only a handbreadth away he stood still. "Open it!", he commanded. Of course Rumpel knew the cutted hairstrands wouldn't hold any magic anymore, as it was the magic inside Rapunzel. Not only the hair. But he enjoyed letting the Prince in the believe he could be satisfied with that. Does he really thought breaking a deal with him would turn out all right for him?! As if...

"Oh! Is that so?!", Rumpelstiltskin turned to face him. The Dark One approached the Prince. "Open it!", he commanded.
Eric slowly laid his sword to the deck and knelt before the chest. He cocked his head to the side to keep the man in the corner of his eye. The captain did not know what to expect but he complied, undoing the latch. As he lifted the lid back Eric stood and backed away. He kept the chest to his right and Rumpelstiltskin to his left. He was tense but tried to remain outwardly calm. "There. It's what you came for isn't it?" the Prince had a bad feeling about the sudden amusement returning to the Dark One's face.

Rumpelstiltskin put his head askant, as he watched Eric opening the chest. Of course he felt the tense within the Prince. And of course he enjoyed it.
"There. It's what you came for isn't it?"
What he came for? He must be kidding! Eric was the one should have came for something... to fulfill his part of their deal. Rumpel ignored the Prince's watch and turned to the now open chest. But instead of knelting before it to have a look inside, he used his magic to let the content hover right into his outstretched hands. Just a little moment his eyes had a look to his side, watching Eric with a dark grin. That coward shall see for what he is capable.
"Well...", Rumpel sayed, while he was turning the hairstrains in his hand. Magicless. Useless. As much as both of them, he thought angry inside again. "I bet you are foolish enough... to think this" Rumpel threw the hair overboard, just with one little move of his hand, let the magic help him out. "would misleading me... am I right?"

"There. It's what you came for isn't it?"
Anxiously, Rapunzel held her breath as the hair rose out of the chest like a snake out of a basket. She was slightly awed by the show of magic as the man turned it every which ways, seeming to examine the long bundle of dead brown hair. Her eyes darted nervously to Eric, knowing that this had to work as it was all the had to give him.
"Well...","I bet you are foolish enough... to think this" "would misleading me... am I right?"
Her heart and hopes sank just as quickly as the hair, now fighting a futile battle against the waves. It seemed their battle was just as futile. Something inside of Rapunzel snapped at that and she found herself facing the man once again, this time with a fire in her voice, "We are not misleading you! Even if Eric had brought me to you, the situation would remain the same. My magic is gone. Long gone before you ever made a deal with this man to find me. He has indeed not broken any deal with you, as here we both are, aren't we? He procured the girl with the magic hair for you and it is by no fault of his that I am no longer of any use to you. The woman for you to blame is as dead as the hair you tossed into the ocean." She didn't know where this surge of bravado came from, as stupid as it was, but it seemed that once she had started that she couldn't turn it off. "Well, Dark One, here I am. How does that make any difference to you now?"

Rumpelstiltskin didn't expect the next words would come from behind. From the useless woman with the cutted hair. Slowly he turned around. His hand was still lifted, in the move, which has thrown the dead hairstraines overboard. Wordless he listened to Rapunzel's speech. After she ended up with her digression, Rumpelstiltskin slowly turned away from the Prince and approached the young woman.
"Oh right!", he finally spat out in a sarcastic way again. "It does not! I saved your friend's fathers life in return to hear your sweet little words, deary. So why should I not be satisfied? ...Any... idea?" His last elongated words were attended by an angry tone. There was a time even his patience came to an end. "No?", he asked another time, not giving her the chance to react. His hand, still lifted, now moved in her direction. "So that is..." ... Suddenly Rumpelstiltskin stopped. There even is Magic inside... It was like he would straight look through Rapunzel. A vision came into his mind, let him see Rapunzel with a young man, laughing, loving. The cry of a baby echoed through his head. A Baby with hair as bright as... Ice. A Baby with... magic.. inside. ... Rumpel's view became clear again, now watching Rapunzel with a knowing smile. A smile, unfilled with any sign of happiness. "Well, little deary", he started, while his eyes grazed her belly. "Here... you are.", he played with the choice of words Rapunzel has given him before. A highvoiced giggle followed his words.

"Oh right!" "It does not! I saved your friend's fathers life in return to hear your sweet little words, deary. So why should I not be satisfied? ...Any... idea?"
As he rounded on her, true anger in his voice, Rapunzel's confidence begin to fade. It was a stupid decision. Her words had gotten away from her and she had awakened the sleeping beast. The words that had come so freely before now felt stuck in her throat but that mattered little as the Dark One left no time for response.
"No?", "So that is..."
The raised hand, the one that had just wielded such power, turned in her direction. She closed her eyes, her body tensing as she fully expected some force of magic to cast her overboard or turn her into something unpleasant or just evaporate her completely. Silently, said her apologies. To Eric, for not being able to stop this. To her parents, for not coming home. To Eugene...Eugene. A warm tear slid down her cheek as she realized that she would never see Eugene again and somehow that hurt more than anything else the Dark One could do to her.
She waited for the blow. First one second...then ten...then thirty... She waited but it never came. Cautiously she opened her eyes. Was he taunting her? Giving her hope only to snatch it away? But as her vision cleared, she saw that he simply stood before her, staring at her with a disconcerting smile spread across his taut lips. Like he knew something that she didn't. Like he had won.
"Well, little deary," "Here... you are."
"What are you..." she had barely breathed the words out when it hit her like a sackful of frying pans. Little dearie, he had said. His gaze was no longer aimed at her. It was aimed at her midsection.
A baby. She and Eugene were going to have a child. How could this be? Though they had talked of children in their future, they hadn't been trying. For a brief moment, Rapunzel's heart swelled at the idea. She was going to be a mother. And her child was going to feel such love. She would have everything that Rapunzel hadn't. She would-
The reality of the situation came rushing back. Her heart painfully thumped in her chest. There could be only one reason that the Dark One would show such interest in her child. Magic.
"No," Rapunzel choked out, slowly backing away, "No, you can't have her."

Eric
The Prince truly felt like a broken man. His last offer, his last card to play, floated away on the tides. There seemed no way to stop the creature before him. Eric was being backed into a corner. He could find no words despite how deep he searched within himself. The moments slipped by until he realized things continued to unfold around him. The Dark One had once again advanced on the poor girl he had failed.
"Well, little deary... Here... you are." he said to her with that ever present smile on his lips.
The Captain could see he was not making eye contact though. Odd since he loved nothing more than to intimidate everyone around him. He was staring at Rapunzel' stomach... What was he getting at? It didn't take long for Eric to figure it out, Rapunzel seemed just as surprised. She was with child. Her expression went from being utterly happy and proud of her unborn baby to terrified as their reality brought her revelations back around.
"No," Rapunzel uttered as she slowly backed away, "No, you can't have her."
Two lives now hung in the balance. He could not just stand by, despite how with every word he spoke he rolled the dice. "Rumpelstiltskin!" shouted the Prince. He waited to make sure he had the Dark Ones attention before continuing. "If you seek a new source of that power, hear me out. There are other ways than the maiden's hair. I will find it for you in exchange for a new deal. I know were to start. You can take me at my word for you know by now I care little for myself. I do not offer this for my own well being. All I ask for is their freedom. For Rapunzel and her child." Eric was grasping at the air now but all rumors had a grain of truth. He would try anything for her. He made eye contact with Rapzunel as he tried his best to give her an encouraging smile.

"What are you..."
Rumpelstiltskin wordless watched her changing face expressions, as she realized a baby in the situation of hers wouldn't be such a happy message. His eyes stared at her urgently, knowing that he has already won.
"No,""No, you can't have her.", she suddenly choked out, slowly backing away from him.
An elongated "Hmmmm" left his lips. Amused. Playing with her fear for some little moments. "Actually...", he finally started to clarify, raising up his finger. "I have no interest in taking away her." With the raised finger Rumpelstiltskin pointed at her belly. The next words he just whispered to her, so that Eric wouldn't be able to hear them. "Just what I want is..."
"Rumpelstiltskin!", a shouting sounded from behind, let him pause.
Oh yah, the Prince! He almost forgot about he was here, too. With a big grin he slowly turned around. "I hear you.", he just gave back, curious about what he thought could in the end turn out all right for him? With a broadening grin word by word he was listening. After Eric ended up with it, made eyecontact with Rapunzel to give her an encouraging smile, Rumpel wordless approached him again. Without attracting attention his right hand made a little move, evoked some magic. meter after meter Rumpel came closer, the rope ends of the canvas sidled up to Eric, just as it were snakes. Then suddenly, before anyone could have noticed or took some action against it, the ropes captured the Captain on his own mast. Rumpelstiltskin now stood right in front of him. Greatly amused. "Offer me a new deal, my son?", he asked obviously impressed by his courage. "And you really think I could yield to your conditions?" With a fast move he grabbed him on his collar. "But do not forget... You tried to break a deal with me. No one does. No one did. And no one... ever... will!" The last words came out in anger again, surrounded by the jarring sound of his voice.

Eric
The Captain faced off with the Dark One, daring him to refuse his deal. Suddenly he thought Rumpelstiltskin was retreating from him. Had he done something right? Before he could even let slip a sigh of relief, Eric felt pain explode through his body as he was ensnared by the rigging and it was he who was being pulled away. The Prince slammed into the main mast and there the rope, seemingly of its own accord, tied him firmly in place. He knew better though, the lines were now extensions of the Dark Ones will.
"Offer me a new deal, my son?" he asked Eric. "And you really think I could yield to your conditions?"
Like lightening he was by Eric's side again, grabbing him by his collar.
"But do not forget... You tried to break a deal with me. No one does. No one did. And no one... ever... will!" Rumpelstiltskin said as the beast's last words frothed with anger once again.
Eric struggled slightly but tried not to make a big show of it. "I will not break this oath, same as I did not break our last deal. What has happened was beyond either of our control. Let me have this chance to make things right. For all of us!" the young pirate said as he looked from Rumpelstiltskin to Rapunzel and back again.

"Oh! I see...", Rumpelstiltskin spat out, almost cut in the Prince's words. It was unsure if his current state of mind was amusement or anger. Maybe it was both. Rumpelstiltskin came closer to Eric's face, kept watching him urgently with the big creepy eyes of his. "I think you still do not get it, do you?", he snapped at him, holding him tightly. "The hair is not the point. The course of your ship is it, deary..." With his free hand Rumpel pointed around. "It is an ease for me to undo my part of our deal." Suddenly Rumpelstiltskin raised up his voice, so that also Rapunzel was able to understand every single part of his next words. "I think I will start with your father. You know, it is just a snap for me..." With a dark grin he raised his free hand again, ready to snap his fingers. Out from the corner of his eyes he watched Rapunzel, anxious to get interrupted by her. He already had a new plan to get what he wants...
