I had watched this probably a week after I watched and posted about the previous one. Totally didn't realize that I never posted! Please keep that in mind as my memory is pretty sketchy after all the months that have gone by. Hoping I don't mix things up with some of the other movies.
What did you think of the movie?
5 out of 5 stars from me! I really love this one. It's probably my favorite because you get to see the fun aspect of being a wizard and attending a wizarding school as well as advancement in the ongoing plot with Harry and Voldemort.
What expectations or theories did you have that either ended up right or wrong?
Regarding theories, that's hard to answer since it's been so long since I first saw it and since I've seen it so many times now. As with all the films, I had every faith that it would be good so my expectations were definitely met!
Who was your favorite character and why? Least favorite?
Cedric was my favorite as well. As Ariel said, he was definitely a Huffelpuff personality! He seemed sweet and mature and sometimes had this adorable shyness.
I don't really have someone I dislike, really, but as far as a character whose actions made me like him least, probably Crouch Sr. It's so frustrating when people with authority just don't listen or believe people and bullheadedly continue to make their own decisions and continue to ignore adamant warnings regarding Voldemort and his return.
What scenes or situations did you like best? Least?
All the game scenes. So fun to watch! The whole graveyard scene, though heartbreaking, was really well done also and really got me in the feels.
As far as least, there's not really anything I don't like in the series but if I had to come up with something, it would probably be one of the things that I liked best which was the games. Don't get me wrong, I loved them, but I keep finding myself asking, why are they letting kids play these games that have a history of people losing their lives? If this was college, that's one thing. That would be adults making the conscious decision to put their lives on the lines. But these are kids and kids have a tendancy to think themselves invisible so they don't tend to think things through in a mature, experienced way, nor do they probably have enough education of magic and the magical world to get out of really tough scrapes.
Lol, okay, a bit of a tangent but it does tend to cause me distraction during those scenes when I'm always thinking, "why are they letting children do this and why didn't the parents have to sign a permission slip or something?"
What were some of your favorite quotes?
Same one Ariel said with the whole Malfoy ferret scene. So great! Been too many months since I watched to recall exactly which other ones I really liked in this one.
How do you rate this movie compared to the rest in the series?I liked it even more. It's really great to watch both the story and the children growing and it feels like the content of the storytelling matures along with the children. The ending really makes me feel like it's time for childhood innocence to come to an end as the threat of Voldemort is very real now so therefore, it's exciting to know that things are going to become more intense and interesting.
If you've read the book, how do you rate this movie compared to the book? What did they leave out? What did they change?
This was actually the first of the series that I read. Actually, I audiobooked them all. I really love Jim Dale. He's an amazing narrator. It's been way, way too long since I listened to it (I believe it was shortly after the 3rd film was in theaters) so I cannot even begin to remember if they left anything out. I do feel like the games were brought to the screen very well.
I had actually planned to never read/listen to the books because I wanted to be totally surprised by the films by going in completely spoiler free but as each film was released, I became more and more antsy pants for what happens next and just couldn't wait anymore after the 3rd film. So crazy to think how the wait between films felt like an eternity and here we are, almost a decade after it's completed and now we're starting on a new prequel adventure within the wizarding world. Crazy!
What do you think of the movie now that you've seen the whole series?
It still remains one of if not my favorite of the series.
Did you find anything new you didn't catch the previous time(s) watching?
No. I've seen it too many times to catch anything. As to what Ariel said about Crouch, Jr., I was a huge 10th Doctor fan before this film came out so it was already ingrained in my memory that he's Crouch, Jr. The two characters are so different that the craziness of seeing Tennant as Crouch, Jr. is burned in my memory, lol!
How did the movie stand the test of time?
It's still amazing. Doesn't feel dated at all!
