The Shadowheart course was set towards Newhall, which left Madison to rejoin her crew in the dining area.
Halfway into the trip, the engine overheated and set a fire.
The crew puts it out but the damage is done and they are stranded, floating in space. Without the engine, the ship's systems started to fail...

*Jeb, Sal, Mads enter from Bridge*
The pods doubled as shuttlecrafts, she had two and they each fit three people. "Get her settled in," Madison jumped into the main seat and started the systems, the oxygen felt nice and her head didn't feel light anymore. "Sal," She walked over and knelt down, cupping her face in her hands. The fever had taken Sally again, she was burning up and Madison couldn't help but worry. "Just hold on a little while longer, help's coming." She turned to Jeb and reached up to place a gentle palm against his cheek. "Sit, relax and take a load off. You earned it," Leaning in she placed a kiss on his lips and sighed, all they could do was wait.

Madison was knelt down next to Sally, fingers running through her hair for comfort. Her own comfort came from Jebediah, she was leaned against him for comfort. Jeb had been a great comfort for both women, he was certainly just as important and necessary.
Madison felt the ship jerk, they were either hitting debris or that was the recuse ship. "Hold on, Sal," She hoped it was the rescue, Sally needed more than comfort. Madison craned her neck to give Jeb a kiss before standing up and slipping into a seat.

The feeling of Madison's hand through her hair was nice, it gave her peace. The pain was almost nonexistent now and she knew that was a bad sign, "Hold on, Sal,"

If they were in the Captains good books, as much as one could have good books out here that is, then it was good enough for him. His trusted her and Sally through and through.

"I trust my friend, Inara. She is an old friend and I trust her completely," She looked over at Sal and took a breath, "plus, we have no choice. We don't accept their help, we might lose Sally and that is not an option." She leaned over and stroked Sally's hair, "On top of that, Captain Malcolm Reynolds- he fought for the Browncoats. If that is the same man, then we can trust him."

Jeb didn't know much about what went down during that war, doing time has that effect on ones upkeep of current events but one thing he and just about everyone knew was the comradery between Browncoats; a family through thick and thin.

Jeb knew better than to question any history there, it was their business and he would learn of it if the time was right that is if there was anything more than serving together.
"Save your energy Miss. Whitewater, just rest and relax."

Madison knew that Sally was strong but this was something she couldn't fight. She was strong physically but she knew Sally had trouble fighting with her head, "Maybe you're right but I think it is time to see if our guests have arrived. She'll be fine here," She pressed a kiss to Sally's forehead, "Don't you move a muscle or else." She saw the corner of Sally's lips twitch into a smile, "She still sasses me from her sick bed, no respect." She sighed.

Mal and Zoe followed behind Wendy as she led the way, ready for any surprises that might await them. Mal took a look behind and saw Simon and Kaylee right behind Zoe, being cautious. When they reached the Escape Pod, Mal gave it a knock and called out.
"Captain Madison?" He motioned for Zoe to be ready, she nodded.

"You have been a saving grace to us, Jebediah, I think we would truly be lost without you." She leaned in and pressed a kiss to his lips before pulling away slightly. "Good deeds must be rewarded... but sadly those must wait until a later time." She could heard footsteps getting closer, a smile appearing as a voice sounded.
"Captain Madison?"
"Captain Reynolds," She released the hatch and a nice gust of air filled the cabin. "Welcome aboard, Shadowheart. Thank you for your assistance," She extended her hand for him and smiled when he took it.

Jeb stood between Madison and Sally guarding over her, his eyes darting darting over the crew at the airlock, taking particular note of their firearms. Jeb stood staunchly his arms at his sides at the ready just in case things went south and the captain was wrong on this occasion. Though he trusted Madison he also never forgot his need to protect them which meant that sometimes they needed protecting from themselves no matter how much one trusted a fellow Browncoat.
"Mister Reynolds." he gave a small curt nod though he was ready for the worst there was no need to forget manners besides it is most likely that his Captain is right about the whole situation.

From the moment they arrived at the pod door, Wendy was observing via all her senses, including her sixth senses. She saw Mal's nod to Zoe, felt his wariness. Zoe's wariness was very low, barely registerable though her loyalty to Mal had her unquestionably following his orders. She seemed to have confidence in Inara's word that this Captain Madison could be trusted. Mal, on the other hand, may trust Inara believed Madison could be trusted but that didn't sway Mal much from his natural distrust and negative outlook on everyone and everything. Simon always had an underlying worry over his sister which, at this moment, was only slightly elevated. Wendy imagined this was how he always felt when separated from River. Apparently Simon had enough confidence in Inara's reassurance that Madison could be trusted. He was mainly exuding worry over the injured stranger on the other side of the door which made her respect for him as a person and as a doctor increase all the more. River was in the best hands she could be.
The pod door opened and Wendy took a quick read of the people within while niceties were exchanged.
"Captain Reynolds," "Welcome aboard, Shadowheart. Thank you for your assistance,"
"Mister Reynolds."
There was fleeting pain and disorientation between bouts of consciousness from the injured woman. Captain Madison shared the same confidence as Inara had, the two apparently with a healthy trust in each others' word. The man who spoke up next shared the same wariness as Mal, though not as deep. Wendy doubted anyone had such a dark outlook as Captain Malcolm Reynolds.
The thing that seemed to dominate the two men was the feeling of being readily on the defense. Wendy decided to help save time for the benefit of the injured woman. She stepped between the crews of the two ships, putting a calming hand up toward each. "Look," she began, looking back and forth between both parties, particularly the men. "Both of you are only worried about reacting if the other attacks. Neither is having thoughts of being the one to start something." She gestured toward the injured woman. "She is not doing well. Timing is critical." Wendy's attention went to Simon. "She's slipping in and out of consciousness. I'm getting more and more..." she paused, trying to think of how best to describe the feeling, "empty darkness from her."

Simon had been more than happy to hang back, letting the armed folk enter the strange ship first and make their introductions. He couldn't blame Mal or Zoe for being wary, nor this other captain and her crew, but these conversations could certainly wait until aid had been rendered to those that needed it.

"Likely oxygen depravation," Simon concluded, agreeing with Wendy's assessment. "May I?" The request was merely a formality, though, as he moved past Madison and Jeb to the injured woman in the shuttle beyond them. He didn't need Wendy's heightened senses to see that she was in a bad way. The pulse in her neck was weak, her skin was pale, her breathing was shallow and ragged, and that was all before he got to the wound in her leg. "Blood loss certainly isn't helping matters. We need to get her back to the infirmary, quick as we can," he instructed.

"Likely oxygen depravation, May I?" Time was critical and Mal was about to stand down, when Simon took the first steps and headed into the shuttle.
"Tell me, are your crew as misbehaving as mine?"
"Blood loss certainly isn't helping matters. We need to get her back to the infirmary, quick as we can," He took a peak into the shuttle and caught sight of the woman, he nearly dropped his gun.
"Go, hurry." He hadn't seen her in years, before the war. Before everything...

"Easy." She whispered.
"She is not doing well. Timing is critical. She's slipping in and out of consciousness. I'm getting more and more...empty darkness from her." Madison did not like the sound of that, in fact, she would much rather continue this conversation in the safety of Serenity.
"Likely oxygen deprivation, May I?" Madison nodded, even though she really didn't need to. she could see Mal's annoyance and couldn't help the smile that formed on her face.
"Tell me, are your crew as misbehaving as mine?"
"That is how we go in this predicament, Captain Reynolds. One too many bar fights with Sal and now here we are. She has her troubles and it's been a struggle since we found each other again. We both fought for independence and Sally continues to struggle with her demons."
"...We need to get her back to the infirmary, quick as we can," Madison watched as something of recollection came across Mal's face, like he was seeing a ghost.
"Go, hurry." Did he know her?

Jeb didn't reaffirm with the Captain nor did he address anyone else after he was polite enough with the foreign ships Captain. Instead he knelt down and scooped Sally up in a slow careful manner as if she were a crate of valuable fragiles.

Seeing as this ship was running on bare minimum life support, that meant the infirmary of Serenity. Wendy's mind went straight to River, who they'd left in that general vicinity. The high levels of emotions running rampant in the entire group due to the current situation was overwhelming, even for someone practiced in dealing with it.
Wendy placed a hand on Simon's arm, speaking calmly. "I'll go clear the area," she said, the look in her eyes conveying her full meaning. Out of respect, she looked over at Mal and gave a firm nod out of recognition of no objection from him. She figured he wouldn't have objected but would have gone ahead all the same if he had.
"Lead the way Doc."
The sound of the man's voice faded away as Wendy rushed ahead of group.
***Wendy exits to Serenity - Simon and River's Bunk***

Simon nodded at Wendy's statement and watched as the man of this ship's crew picked up the injured woman in his arms. "Just try to keep her stable," he advised hesitantly, not wishing to annoy the man but also unable to help his medical concern. "It's not far to our infirmary. Straight across the cargo bay, then down a few stairs." Simon walked ahead of Jebediah and Sally to make sure that the coast was clear. As if remembering her presence, he walked quickly back to address Madison. "I'll do my best to help her," he stated before continuing on the path back to Serenity.

"Kaylee, get this boat up and running. We'll leave the door open to keep air flowing." Kaylee made a remark about how she appreciated it and headed off for the Engine room. Mal sighed and led the others to the Infirmary, he really hoped Sal would pull through.
