*** Logan and Jean enter from the X-Jet ***
Like a self-appointed tour guide, Jean had been sharing points of interest in the mansion from the cargo bay all the way to the guest room. Not that Logan showed any particular interest. She consoled herself that he was just tired and ready to get some sleep. Frankly, she was looking forward to crawling into her own bed as well. She opened the door to the room and stood aside to let him enter.
"So there's bathrooms and showers back down the hallway," she continued, "and there's a kitchen downstairs, if you're hungry. The dining hall is downstairs, too, but it won't be open again until breakfast. We have pizza on Fridays," she added with a proud smile. She proceeded further into the room, letting the man get his bearings as she perched hesitantly on a bench by the wall.
"But it doesn't take a telepath to know that you don't plan to stay long," Jean remarked. "Where would you go?"

Logan was half-listening to the sightseeing tour Jean was giving him while they walked up to the guest room. It was not even because out of no interest, but because he was tired and above all looking forward to being alone for a while. This whole mission had not only put him to kind of a social test, but it also had made him realize how lonely deep inside he actually was. And even though he didn't like to admit, not even to himself, he had started to like this place. Not the place, but the people.
"... The dining hall is downstairs, too, but it won't be open again until breakfast. We have pizza on Fridays", eventually, Logan allowed his guidance to overlie his thoughts again. FriDAYS she said. "But it doesn't take a telepath to know that you don't plan to stay long," At that, his head turned back into her direction, finding her perching on a bench by the wall. Well, pizza was definitely a plus. "Where would you go?"
"That depends on whether your professor will be able to help me or not." That had come out more personally than intended. Logan sighed. What the hell? This girl was a fucking telepath. She would be able to read everything on his mind anyway; not that he thought she would actually do so right now.

"That depends on whether your professor will be able to help me or not."
"Well, you might want to take a number," Jean replied with a slight laugh. It seemed the Professor suddenly had a full plate with the recent arrivals of Peter and Hope and Maeve and now Erik. Not to mention the young mutant girl that had accompanied Logan on his trip from Africa. "I don't think Mr. Lehnsherr will be here for long, though. He and the Professor don't exactly have the same idea of how people like us fit into this world," she informed him. Admittedly, it was an understatement, and she had no idea how long the uncomfortable truce between the two would last.
"Ororo would probably be happy if you stuck around," she offered. "New house, new people -- it can be tough at first. And I'm sure there would always be work for you here. The way you handled those guards, I mean, we don't have anyone to teach us close combat. Well, there's Colossus, but hitting him is like hitting a steel wall. A real steel wall."

"I don't think Mr. Lehnsherr will be here for long, though. He and the Professor don't exactly have the same idea of how people like us fit into this world,"
"To me, they seem like a quarreled couple.", Logan threw in jokingly but without a smile, while he left his luggage unpacked and instead made himself comfortable on the bed.

"To be honest, we've just met as well. It's not like she'd be happy with me around or that she'd know me in the first place. Don't even know myself.." The last words had come out more like grumpy whispering to himself, though they had come out for some reason. It wasn't really like he was keen to talk... or was he?

"To be honest, we've just met as well. It's not like she'd be happy with me around or that she'd know me in the first place. Don't even know myself...."
"Hang on, I thought I was supposed to be the uncertain, soul-searching teen around here," Jean remarked, faking a pout as she stood and leaned against the bed post. She had pegged Logan as a man of action, one that needed a mission or an objective to prompt him to stay. But maybe the mansion could offer something deeper, some sense of peace. "But still, you were there to help her when she needed it," she said of Ororo. "Other people probably could and did walk away."
Well aware of the sharp and shiny claws lying just beneath the surface of fists that were damaging enough on their own, Jean took a chance and sat down slowly on the bed beside him. "This is the best place for her to learn more about her powers, how to control them without hurting herself or anyone else," she advised. "Having to do something like that on your own is hard. But you already know that, even if you chose to be alone."

"But still, you were there to help her when she needed it,""Other people probably could and did walk away."
"I had a car to get fixed. So what I did was clearing a debt.", Logan instantly replied matter-of-factly and at the same time shuffling off any praise. He was not that kind of guy she wanted to make him sound like he was, or did he just not want to be? No, he'd come here for self-serving reasons and nothing else. So, she could slip the card of the Samaritan to someone else.
Logan's features softened a little when she sat down on the bed right beside him. "This is the best place for her to learn more about her powers, how to control them without hurting herself or anyone else,""Having to do something like that on your own is hard. But you already know that, even if you chose to be alone."
Did he really choose to be alone though? Once again his features hardened. Every once in a while, there were coming pieces of memory, feeling like no more than a dream, back to him. Of a memory with someone on his side. Well, ridiculous. He was a loner, probably always had been, and always will be.
With a grunted sigh, Logan raised from the bed. "I'm glad she's allowed to stay. This school really seems to be the right place for her." Not sure if there is any place feeling like the right place for ME though, he added only in thoughts, as his look turned out of the window to watch some students for a nightly stroll.

"I had a car to get fixed. So what I did was clearing a debt. ... I'm glad she's allowed to stay. This school really seems to be the right place for her."
"A lot of lost people tend to find their way here. It's one of the Professor's powers," Jean mused, thinking back on her own journey from where she had started, to her room and comfy bed waiting down the hallway. "Anyway, I'll let you get some sleep," she said as she got to her feet. "And thank you, again, for being there to catch me when I fell. It's been a long time since I...since I lost control like that. So now I guess I'm in your debt."
With a playful grin at turning his words around on him, Jean walked backwards toward the doorway. "And don't forget, pizza Friday!" she reminded as she raised a hand and with a flick of her fingers, pulled the door closed behind her.

Logan hadn't reacted with more than a slight nod to all her last words. Not only was he feeling like he shouldn't get too used to these people, but also was he dog-tired. Even if this place wouldn't become a place to settle down, for he was almost sure there wasn't such a place for him, he appreciated a bed and a room with nobody around looking at him like he was a freak.
And pizza Fridays honestly didn't sound too bad. What actually was too bad though was that a Friday had just come to an end. He would have had no objections to late pizza...
