5 out of 5 stars from me. So good. So freakin' good! Terry O'Quinn is such an amazing actor. They should have handed him an Emmy as soon as this ep ended.
Talk about an emotional roller coaster! There were a lot of moments that made me bust out laughing but toward the end, I was teary-eyed and had goosebumps of emotions and at the very end, total intrigue.
There was a really neat symbolism set up at the beginning of this episode and you don't really realize it until you see what happens and usually until you watch again as you may have forgotten something that seemed unimportant. Remember how Locke was talking about the game Mouse Trap to that little kid? One by one, you build the trap and then when you opponent reaches the spot, you spring the trap. Anthony did just that to him. He built the trap, starting with sending his birth mother to initialize it all. Then there was the fake stories and bonding, giving a false time so that Locke would just happen to walk in on him during dialysis. Telling him that he's glad his mother had found him now before it was too late and then boom, the cage falls down as Locke offers to give him one of his kidneys.
Man, my heart totally broke for Locke as realization dawned on him and especially when he stood outside the locked gate as that beautifully emotion-filled background music accompanied. God how I hate Anthony. And we thought Jack's dad was horrible.
I remember thinking we were going to find out what landed him in a wheelchair. When that car backed out as he was chasing his mom, I thought, "omg, is that is?" but no, he got up and then at the end, when he was angry and broken, driving and hitting the roof of his car, I thought, "omg, he's gonna get in an accident" but nope. Actually, I hadn't even realized that the timing wasn't right. He said he's been in a wheelchair for four years but this episode's flashbacks took place years before that. I was too caught up in the show to realize that.
Supposedly people said that the car that backed out and hit him was the same kind of car that had hit Michael and people had assumed it was maybe the
exact same car and driver but there was nothing else ever said or confirmed about that. I'm thinking it was just coincidence and/or cars that looked similar.
Locke's dream/vision was creepy as hell! Teresa falls up the stairs. Teresa falls down the stairs. Teresa falls up the stairs... It was part glimpse into the past and part glimpse into the future. There is definitely something extraordinary about the island.
They found the beechcraft! Wow, so many people have crashed or shipwrecked there. Is there a reason for that or is it just random? A plane from Nigeria and it's cargo was heroin. Lol, Ilona, remember your comment about Charlie staying clean cuz there's no drugs there.... probably? Congrats on thinking like a Lostie cuz guess what, not only is there drugs but it's exactly the stuff that Charlie had been on. Oh man. Let's just hope Charlie never comes across it.
The scenes with Jack and Sawyer were hilarious! Sawyer totally deserved it and it's a rare opportunity that you get to get a little payback with him. It was so satisfying and hilarious to watch and I think it helps to humble him when he starts getting too... Sawyerish.
So many questions!! Boone switched the power on in the plane and it actually worked! Not only that, but it seems like he actually got a hold of someone! I remember when this aired, we couldn't figure out what exactly the person on the other end was saying and we weren't even sure if there WAS another person on the other end. It had almost sounded like Boone echoing back at himself like a kind of feedback. This was all off TV, mind you, before we had the DVDs with closed captioning. We couldn't tell if it was Boone's voice feedbacking back as "We're the survivors of Oceanic 815" or if the voice said "There were no survivors of Oceanic 815."
When Jack asked what happened, why did Locke lie and say that Boone fell off a cliff? Why did he hide the fact that they'd found a beechcraft? When someone is that badly injured, it's important you give details. If you fall off a cliff, that's one thing but if you happened to be inside a plane or vehicle, that could be different since you could end up more damaged or with different types of injuries with things falling on you, hitting you, etc. Locke just took off right away. Why did he do that?
Man, he really put all his faith in the island. He fully believed in the goodness of it, like he did of his father, and then suddenly, the island inexpicably takes away his ability to walk. Well, he thinks it's the island controlling these things but it might not be. Maybe the crash did knock something into place but it's starting to revert back. Who knows. I'm not a doctor, lol. After that flashback, you can really understand why he is so upset at being let down. The raw emotion and pain as he's yelling at the island and crying as he pounded on the hatch was so emotional. Then suddenly, a light shines through the window. What the...?! Damn I love this show SO MUCH!
Oh, and big points to Team Jate on this episode! Lol, Jack went out of his way to not only bring Sawyer down a peg but probably also to turn Kate off of Sawyer with the prostitute and STD questions, lol! And then when she says thanks for helping Sawyer, he says he didn't do it for Sawyer. Awwwwww!! JATE!! <3 <3 <3
Favorite quotes/moments:All the Jack/Sawyer scenes
Locke's emotional ending of the flashbacks and at the hatch.
Jack: Look, Kate, I'd like nothing more than to check the guy out and make sure he's okay. But we both know all I'm going to get for my trouble is a snappy one-liner. And if I'm real lucky, a brand new nickname.
Jack: You picking up on a little Korean there, Michael?
Michael: Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know how to say "faster" and "idiot."
Jack: Have you ever had sex with a prostitute?
Sawyer: What the hell has that got to do with anything?
Jack: Is that a yes?
Sawyer: [sighs] Yes.
Jack: Have you ever contracted a sexually transmitted disease? [Sawyer doesn't respond.] I'm going to take that as another yes. When was the last outbreak?
Sawyer: Go to hell, Doc. [Sawyer exits.]
Kate: I know he deserved it, but...
Jack: He needs glasses.
Jack: You, uh, you've got, uh, you've got hyperopia.
Sawyer: [panicking] Hyperopia? That's, uh, what is that?
Jack: You're far-sighted.
Hurley: (seeing Sawyer in his new glasses) Dude, it looks like someone steam rolled Harry Potter.
Kate: So, did you know before or after you asked him about his latest outbreak?
Jack: Well, I'd answer that, Kate, but, you know, doctor-patient confidentiality.
Kate: Of course. Thank you for helping him. I know it was probably the last thing you wanted to do.
Jack: I didn't do it for him.
