I gave it 3 out of 5 stars. A great ep but not up to par to the last couple of eps!
First off, if you have the DVDs, there's a fun little easter egg on the home screen of the disc of this episode. It has the beechcraft as the background and if you just let it sit for awhile, the beechcraft will fall.
I think the only thing that kinda bothered me about this ep was that it didn't seem quite right that Shannon would go so far to kill Locke. Maybe it's not only the loss of Boone but her guilt over how shitty she was toward him. She never got to make it up to him. When you see more of her flashbacks in future, you see how different she was. She was definitely the kind of person who would feel incredibly guilty over her treatment of him.
It was sad that she couldn't say anything during Boone's funeral. I don't blame her though. I don't know how anybody can say a few words when it's someone close that you lost. I'm too much of an emotional mess. That on top of being a horrible public speaker and hating to have so many people watching and listening to my every word makes me extremely uncomfortable. But you can see on her face and in her eyes that she's hurting and when you see that it's her that stole the key from Jack's neck, you realize that there was also the look of seething inside during the funeral.
Oh man, that scene when Locke returns during the funeral and speaks, the way everyone looks at him is just amazing! The whole cast is just great. You can see this mixed look of surprise, anger, disbelief, accusation just shooting arrows at Locke. And later, when Locke is getting Boone's blood out of his shirt, the way that Walt looks at him and walks away is also really great. Good job, kid!
Jack looked like death walking. He was so pale and drawn, clearly exhausted and still drained from giving so much of his blood to Boone. He is such a stubborn mule that I was glad Kate gave him a sleeping pill, lol! Seriously, the man is gonna kill himself just out of pure stubbornness!
All the scenes with Turniphead were so funny! Hurley singing to him, Charlie following Sawyer around when he realized Sawyer's voice made the baby stop crying, Sawyer reading from some car magazine and Claire walking up like, "what the heck is going on" and Charlie shushing her and waving her to join them.
I didn't find the flashbacks that spectacular in this one. I felt really bad for Sayid's old friend. I know Sayid has been harboring feelings for Nadia but for him to go so far as to talk his friend into being a suicide bomber is crazy! Then again, that horrible CIA woman and that Australian equivalent ASIS guy really used him. They used his feelings for Nadia against him so I can kind of understand why he went through with it. His friend was obviously still in a lot of pain over the loss of the woman he'd loved and finding out Sayid had used him for a woman just pushed him over the edge. So sad.
We learned Sayid's reason for his flight, at least; to find Nadia who the CIA had told him was living in Irvine, CA. That's actually really close to me, btw.
If it wasn't for the CIA and Australian ASIS equivalent guy saying his friend's body was going to be cremated, Sayid would not have been on Flight 815. He would have left the day before that flight and who knows, maybe he'd have been reunited with Nadia by the time the plane crashed.
I still don't know why Locke feels the need to continue lying about the hatch. I wonder what's going on in that head of his. I'm so glad that Sayid called him on it and is forcing Locke to take him to the hatch. Can't wait to see where this goes!
Favorite quotes/scenes:Everything with Turniphead
Agent Cole: Noor Abed-Jazeem
Sayid: Nobody calls her Noor.
(Almost exactly what Nadia had said to him. I like when they give that wink to something that happened in the past.)
Charlie: I can take care of Turniphead for a while.
Claire: (looking surprised and slightly insulted) Turniphead?
Charlie: It's just that I'm calling him until you give him a name because... his head... it's like a turnip.
Locke: I know what it cost you to do what you did. Thank you.
Sayid: I did ti because I sense you might be our best hope of surviving here. But I don't forgive what you did. And I certainly don't trust you. And now, you're going to take me to the hatch.
