5 stars from me as well! God, I love this show SO MUCH! So many feels and Evangeline gave such an amazing performance throughout.
Jin and Sun! Yay! <3 I totally hear you. I remember thinking what a horrible, horrible man he was and now I totally love him and he and Sun together. It amazes me every time how good the writers are at character development. They can take a character, make you hate him or her, and then work their magic and suddenly, you find yourself really liking this person and forgiving the things that made you hate them. It's all about perception and getting to know a person. It's so easy to hate when you don't know much about a person. But then open up the story of their past and see how they became the person you see, you start to sympathize. When they finally take a good look at the person they've become and finally accept the past and let it go and get on the path to redemption, they go through this change for the good. Sure, it's horrible being stranded on an island with some scary things and scary people but all in all, their time has really done a lot of good for some of the characters. Jin and Sun would be in the same unhappy situation if they'd have landed safely in L.A.
I cracked up when Hurley gave Jin a thumbs up, lol!! Gotta love Hurley!
Yah, yah, a point for Team Skate when Sawyer said "I love her" but you've also gotta take into account that he was really out of it and delusional. We can easily assume he's talking about Kate and heck, maybe he was, but he's been out of it for days so even if he did mean Kate, we can't be sure he really meant what he said. He's been passed out since before they got back to the camp so he doesn't even know he's back with his original group. Then again, he could very well know subconsciously as the people that had been watching over him talked to him. Either way, I don't think he'd remember anything said to him or what he'd said, accept for the last thing Kate said as he was waking up.
It also scared the heck out of me when Sawyer suddenly woke up and grabbed her by the throat, talking like he was Wayne. Crazy! Was it really Wayne talking through Kate or was Sawyer just having an attack of delusion? All he really said was "Why'd you kill me?" but he didn't specifically say that he was Wayne and he didn't specifically say 'Kate'. He could just as easily been having hallucinatory dreams of dying and somehow connected Kate's voice as a part of it. Then again, it's much more fun to think that it was Wayne talking through Sawyer. After all, we've seen some crazy things happening on this island! That black horse we thought Kate might be hallucinating was really there as Sawyer saw it too and she's definitely convinced it's the same one that enabled her to break free from the Marshal that first time when the Marshal swerved to avoid hitting it. Sayid and Shannon saw Walt.
The question is, was the horse really real or something the island manifested after diving into Kate's memories? If it was real and it was the actual horse from that day she escaped, how did it end up there? Did the island bring it or are the Others way more crafty than we thought? The latter doesn't seem possible. That would be way elaborate to know such a little detail as that black horse.
Ugh, Kate's dad, Wayne, is disgusting. What a horrible person. It's bad enough that he knocks her mom around but then he hits on her? What a pig. Then we find out that he's not really her step-dad but her actual, biological father and that he KNOWS he's her biological father and is still hitting on her... What a disgustingly horrible man. I don't blame Kate for blowing his ass up. Was it the right thing to do? No. But I can still sympathize. She was attempting to save her mother but try saving someone who doesn't want to be saved and it will only backfire on you, as it did here. Her own mother turned her in. Was she wrong to do that? Well, not entirely. Yes, it was her own daughter but you can't ignore the fact that Kate murdered someone. What would you do if you were in Kate's mom's position? Gosh, it's so difficult.
Shannon's funeral was so sad.
Sayid's words and seeing his pain made me teary-eyed. There are now three graves on Boone Hill. Yes, that's the official name of their grave sight. I know what you mean about Locke randomly looking like he's smiling at inappropriate moments but here, I think he was just squinting from the glare of the sun. Maybe he was smiling a little though. As sad as Sayid's words were, they actually were positive. Shannon left this world loved and a better person and I'm sure that Locke credits the island for that. Remember, he's all about the island and he talks about sacrifices the island demands and maybe he was thinking this was one of them while also thinking how the island did some good for Shannon.
I felt so bad for Kate in her flashbacks. She was trying to do good by her mom by getting rid of the man smacking her around and also taking out an insurance policy so that her mom will be financially taken care of. Everyone turned on her. Her mother, the man she thought was her real dad... but at least he let her have an hour to get away. He looked really sad for her situation and for what she'd done. His comment that he doesn't have murder in his heart was kind of a jab though and the fact that he knew Kate would kill Wayne if she found out Wayne was her real father was slightly scary. What does that say about Kate's character that this man who was like a father to her thought she was perfectly capable of murder?
Speaking of, did you notice the big easter egg when Kate goes into the army office to visit her dad? On the TV to the left, you see Sayid on TV!!
Jin finally got his handcuff off. I love how he went right over to Michael to show him and they exchanged this smile. Again, I was reminded of how much has changed! These two were at each other's throats at the beginning. Now they're really good friends.
KATE KISSED JACK!!! Huge point to Team Jate! Yay!!! Man is poor girl having such confusing feelings. It's obvious she's got feelings for both Jack and Sawyer and we heard her actually speak out her thought on how she feels about being attracted to Sawyer. Unfortunately, he reminds her of Wayne so it totally makes sense when we see her looking disgusted with herself when she does show those moments of weakness with Sawyer. With Jack, I don't think she thinks she's good enough for him. That's basically what she said when she went off on him before kissing him. She had a vulnerable moment when Jack did the good guy thing by holding her even after she just went off on him. She kissed him and the look on her face showed that it scared her how it had effected her. We haven't learned everything from her past yet but I think we all know that relationships are a complication, especially for someone constantly on the run. She likes Jack. He's a good guy but he doesn't deserve the life on the run that she has to live. Sawyer would probably be able to live that life but the problem remains that he reminds her of Wayne. That's a hard thing to look past and Sawyer will need to do a little self improving so that she doesn't see that quality there anymore if Skaters hope that they can work out.
I absolutely moved Mr. Eko in this episode! He is so great at the strong and silent type. He says so very much by saying very little and sometimes, without saying anything at all. I loved his reaction after the video when Locke asked him what he thought. Mr. Eko just calmly looks at him, stands up, and then walks away. Lmao! I should do that sometime after I see a bad movie.... my mom says "What'd you think?" and I be like, *stares back with an intense look, stands up, walks out of theater*
It's so much fun when Locke and Eko share the screen. So similar and so different those two are and it's fascinating to see the two interact. The way Eko looks at Locke, I believe he's got him all figured out. He sees a man with his same level of intense faith but the direction Locke's faith is in and the way he goes about embracing and practicing his faith is just not right. I see it in the way Eko is so quick to try and get a message across to Locke. Locke talks about the two pieces of the film being brought together in his usual philosophical way that I and most of the survivors have always found so deep and meaningful but now seeing it through the eyes of Eko and seeing some of the things Locke has done, we are seeing that perhaps Locke is misguided in his faith. Eko's faith lies in God while Locke's lies in the island. Eko sees that something is off and I really like to see him put Locke in his place with comments like, "Don't mistake coincidence with fate."
Wow, that ending! The writers are so good at throwing a last minute hook. Something you don't see coming and leaves you dying for the next episode! Michael at the computer, someone sending a message. Seems neat that he's communicating with someone and you only have a few seconds to wonder who it could be and where in the world they are when suddenly "Dad?" flashes on the screen. Holy crap! Is it Walt? Is it a trap? What's going on?! So excited for more episodes!
Favorite scenes/moments:Kate's breakdown with Jack, Jack comforting Kate, Jack and Kate kiss!!
Everything with Eko and Locke
Eko: Hello. I have something I think you should see. If you don't mind, I will begin at the beginning. Long before Christ the king of Judah was a man named Josiah.
Locke: Boy when you say beginning, you mean -- beginning.
Eko: Don't mistake coincidence for fate.
