5 stars from me! They did a really great job of pulling off such a crazy connection as a plane from Eko's past crashing on the same island Eko ends up crashing and Eko really got me in the feels when he cried over his brother and later, prayed over him as the plane burned.
Finally we got to see the monster! And also finally, I can call it by it's actual name! Smoke Monster! It's been hard for me to remember that I can't say Smoke Monster until now. It was weird just saying "the monster" when, since this episode and on, myself and fans have all called it the Smoke Monster.
So what exactly is the Smoke Monster? We don't quite know yet. We know that the first time Locke saw it, he thought it was beautiful and the second, he was scared. If you run the scene where Eko comes face to face with it on slow motion, you'll really learn a lot more. While the camera is panning behind the Smoke Monster, you see flashes. On slow motion, you see that these flashes are of Eko's past. So the Smoke Monster seems to have the ability to look into your mind and see your thoughts, emotions, and important things of your past. Based on that, I'm guessing the first time Locke saw it, it showed flashes of all the wonderful moments of Locke's life and the second time, the really, really bad things.
It seems like it's reading the person to see what kind of a person they are, pulling out your sins and your good deeds. In the flashes for Eko, it showed the church, the lady who was selling the statues, his brother Yemi, the man he shot as a boy, and other things that we got to see in Eko's flashbacks.
Makes you wonder if it has any link to the Others who had made a list of people that Goodwin claimed were "good." But still, we don't know exactly what is considered as "good." Good person in general or good for some type of purpose? And do the Others have any connection to the Smoke Monster at all?
Eko is such an amazing character. He had an incredibly difficult childhood. He shot an innocent elderly man when he was just a boy to save his brother from committing murder, thereby putting himself in the hands of those bad people who raised him to be a monster. Adewale is such a great actor, especially when it comes to expressions. You could clearly read what he was thinking, especially when Claire mentioned Charlie has a Virgin Mary statue. The recognition and importance of something you wouldn't think would be that big of a deal had such a huge impact and right away, you wonder what's going on. Then later, he is really scary and intimidating when you see him stomping toward Charlie. Damn, he can be scary when he wants to be! Gentle, quiet, soft spoken one minute, intimidating and forceful the next.
I really like the little touches like in the flashback, when we see Eko leave a bloody handprint on the inside of the plane door before he's shoved out and on the island, as he's climbing in, he looks over and sees his hand print. They also had a great idea to make the other guy easy to identify. Goldie, which is what the guy with the gold tooth is known as, is the man that Eko said saved his life. He was one of Eko's guys that we saw in the flashback, flashing that gold tooth in a smile and he's the one that pushed Eko out of the plane. If he hadn't, Eko would have crashed and died on that island long ago.
I really like the way the writers do the collage of scenes showing different people and weaving them all together. Usually it's with a song but for this episode, while Eko is reciting Psalm 23 over the burning plane, they show Jin bringing Sun over to introduce to Ana Lucia and they offer her a fish. The scene was much more powerful that way than if we would have heard the actual dialogue between Jin, Sun, and Ana Lucia.
Oh, and also, I can start saying Jesus Stick! Yay! Lmao!! That is one of my favorite quotes from the show. I laugh so hard every time Charlie says that line.
What the heck is going on with Charlie? He was really funny at the beginning of the episode, singing and annoying Jin into shooing him away but then, he just starts lying left and right. Those damned drugs still have such a hold on him. He's even lying to Claire, claiming he didn't know what was in the statues. I don't think he's using again though. I just think that it gives him some sort of comfort to have the drugs at hand but it's still a very bad idea to actually have them at hand. If things go bad and he breaks down, they're easily accessible. Thankfully, Eko burned the plane and all the rest of the drugs besides the one he handed Charlie but geez, Charlie had like, six other statues already hidden in that tree. I wonder how many times he's trekked out to the plane? But then again, he seemed genuinely lost that last time when he was leading Eko to the plane so I guess he grabbed all those the one time he was their with Sayid. That's kind of better, thinking it was a split second decision rather than premeditated trips back and forth.
He definitely shouldn't have lied to Claire and I don't blame her for kicking his ass out. He flat out lied to her face several times and didn't own up to the fact that he was lying until it was a last ditch effort to get himself back in her good graces. Too little, too late, buddy.
It was funny to see Sawyer squirming. He is so uncomfortable with people liking him.
What in the heck is going on with Michael and that computer? Is it really Walt he's talking to? If so, how did Walt get his hands on a computer and how does he know when it's his dad that happens to be at it? Also, how did the screen clear just in time for Jack to walk around to look at it? So crazy. Then again, Walt seems to have abnormal abilities or is simply smart enough to figure someone else showed up since his dad stopped responding. Still though, I'm dying to find out what's going on!

I gave this episode 4 stars. It was a good one and I really like Eko, but there were better ones in the past, so I had to make that decision. But I do agree, that the connection between Eko's past and the plane with all that heroin on board, which was found some episodes before, is great! At the beginning I was quite sure, Eko would be the younger brother, who was forced to kill that guy. But then, it was Eko anyway, who had to do... poor boy. The guy would have been killed anyway, so it was at least kinda "heroic" to do it, to preserve his young brother from doing it. Really sad though... Eko is such an awesome character with so much different sides I think. On one hand he is that calm man, who seemed ti have find something like his inner peace, and on the other hand he can be pretty tough and almost relentless, for example in the scene, in which he cuts the two drugman's (I know that drugman is actually no word ) throats. But he is so extremely cool on his both sides! I'm pissed about Charlie still lying at Claire. I feel sorry for him, but also can understand Claire, especially because of the baby, as long as she can't be sure, that Charlie is taking drugs again. Oh and I really wonder, if he is using again or not, maybe just owns the heroin. I really hope so. Be brave, Charlie. But "oh no" to the ending scene, in which we saw, that Charlie owns more of that heroin statues... I loved the scene with Eko and Charlie! How Eko talked to him and didn't believe in Charlie's lies right from the start. Man, this guy is so cool. Whoaa, but what was this black cloud of smoke suppose to be? The island is so freakin crazy! A smoke monster? Oh ok, then it's just a monster out of smoke and no further mystery behind? Oh man, and I really should watch more attentive, as it seems. If I haven't just forgotten about that important detail, I really haven't seen, that the smoke monster showed something of Eko's past to him. Awwww how cute Kate and Sawyer are together! How she cuts his hair and tells him, that now everyone likes him. So Sawyer, you have to try harder making people hate you, lol! Oh and there was another cute Skate scene, but I don't remember exactly, as it has been a while ago I watched this episode, just did some notes to write this. ^^ I made notes about a mirror or something. Well, don't remember, as I said. ^^' I wonder, if it's really Walt, whom Michael was writing to at the computer. Why would the others let him get such a chance? Or maybe they even told him to do that to lead the group to them? It was only a little scene, but I liked to see Jin and Sun giving food to Ana, who everyone else seem to avoid. It was very great done, how Eko said that prayer with just the right background music. All scenes are always so well done in Lost. --------------------------------------------------- Favourite quotes:Charlie: "You gonna beat me with your Jesus stick?"

Oh, there's definitely more to the Smoke Monster than we know! We just know now what it looks like. Those little puffs of smoke the characters randomly saw going by are now explained. There's more to it than that. It looks like smoke which is why it became known as the Smoke Monster but since when can smoke grab you and drag you away, like it did to Locke? Since when can smoke seem to be able to dig into your memories and project important things onto itself? Since when can smoke seem to be alive and thinking? Oh man, we are just scratching the surface.
