I was going back and forth on a 3 or 4 stars for this ep and finally decided on 3. Gotta be a little more strict with giving out so many 4's and 5's and for this ep., there really wasn't much progress in the overall story.
We got to see a bit more of Hurley's past, why he was in the mental hospital, etc., but it didn't do much else besides shed that light on why he'd been there. It was interesting though to see Dave almost convince him that the island was not real and that Hurley was in a coma, especially since so many people watching were guessing that this whole show is taking place in one of the character's imagination/dream/hallucination and no matter how many times the producers and writers kept saying that's not the case, people didn't listen. This was their way of poking fun at that ridiculous "it's all a dream" guess.
There was an old show that did that once where it ended and it turns out it was this autistic kid looking into a snow globe and imagining the whole thing. It was total outrage for the fans and everything thought it was completely ridiculous, including the show runners of Lost. That's why they said there's no way this is all a dream, lol.
Before Dave jumps, he says "see you in another life." You know, I didn't realize how many times that line has been said by so many different characters!
The only really good part were the Henry scenes, of course. Not saying the rest of the episode was bad, but it was just alright.
Libby is such a nice person. She really does like Hurley and is genuinely trying to help him. It was good that Hurley opened up to her, showing her his stash and then watching him tear it all apart. Sure, it's totally wasteful and they could have given it all away to the other survivors but how do you explain suddenly appearing at the beach with a bunch more food? Libby and Hurley didn't know yet about the food drop.
Speaking of, Libby totally took the words right out of our mouths when she said something about the island not wanting him to lose weight. That they destroyed all that stuff and then boom, a palette of food falls from the sky.
Oh, and the part where Hurley beats the crap out of Sawyer was so freakin' great! He really had it coming, with all the horrible nicknames he's called Hurley since the beginning. It cracked me up to see Jin smiling, genuinely pleased to see Sawyer getting his ass kicked and then later, seeing Kate tease Sawyer about it.
Gah, "Henry" is so freakin' great! Even now, when he's been caught in a lie and just continues to lie and get caught over and over again, it's amazing to watch. You can't believe a word out of his mouth. But then he goes and tells Locke that he didn't enter the numbers and push the button and that the clock just automatically reset. Why is it that after all this lying, I find myself questioning if that is true or not? Who knows!! "Henry" is a master manipulator. People who do that, where they tell lie after lie after lie, can be really smart and be doing it to throw you off. You start to think the person is ridiculous and stupid to keep lying and getting immediately caught but what if they're doing it on purpose? Here we are, starting to lower our level of warning on this guy, thinking he's nothing put a petty liar and really bad at it, just brushing his antics aside and rolling our eyes, making us forget sometimes how very clever that wonderful weasel is.
How about when Sayid and Ana Lucia are questioning him? Ana Lucia brings up "the guy with the beard" (Mr. Friendly) and "Henry" claims that Mr. Friendly is "nobody." All this time, I thought Mr. Friendly was in charge but now it seems maybe he isn't? Who is this guy that "Henry" seems to be so afraid of? Some guy who seems to be immensely worse than Mr. Friendly to have "Henry" claiming that Mr. Friendly is a nobody.
Another interesting comment "Henry" makes is to Locke when he says that "God can't see this island any better than the rest of the world." It almost slipped right past me but then I got to thinking. There is definitely something strange about the island. Yes, the plane was 1,000 miles of course when it crashed, which might explain why they haven't been found by rescue parties, but what if it's more than that? Look at how many people seemed to have ended up on that island and not one of them have been rescued. Danielle and her whole team, Desmond, the real Henry Gale, flight 815... whoever the man and woman whose remains were in the cave were, whoever was on that Black Rock ship that was marooned centuries ago.
It seems everyone there got there by accident. Well, we don't know about the Others though. Have they always been there? Did they get marooned there also and have taken over in that time? Did they travel there on purpose?
Omg, the ending! Libby was at the same mental hospital as Hurley at the same time! Why was she there? That's why Hurley thought she looked familiar. It seems like they didn't talk though while they were there so I'm not entirely sure if Libby remembers him from there? Or does she? If so, why wouldn't she tell him?
Can't wait to unravel more of the mysteries!
Favorite quotes/moments:Hurley kicking Sawyer's ass while everyone watching with satisfaction
Charlie: (watching Eko constructing a structure) What are you making?
Eko: (referring to a log) Hold that end.
Charlie: Is it a Starbucks?
Hurley: Did either of you see a guy run through here -- in a bathrobe, with a coconut?
Charlie: No. Saw a polar bear on roller blades with a mango.
Libby: Where are you going?
Hurley: Back to the caves. No one lives there anymore, so I won't bother anybody. I'm just going to live alone and be one of those guys -- you know, the crazy guys -- with a big beard and no clothes who's naked and throws doodie at people.
Libby: (kisses Hurley) And that was real.
Hurley: Maybe you should do it one more time just to be sure.
