I gave it three stars as well, though I'm really more of a 3 1/2. It wasn't as good as some of the others but it did get me in the feels with the funeral scene and poor Hurley. Plus we got to get more of a peek of the Others!
At first I actually didn't believe it to be Walt on the pc, chatting with Michael. Well okay, was wrong with that at least. ^^'
I don't think it really was Walt talking on the computer. I think maybe they had Walt right there in case they needed to ask him questions so that they could convince Michael that it was Walt he was talking to. Seems like they've had Walt locked up the whole time, what with the testing talk and "the room" Miss Klugh threatened to put Walt back into.
Still hate Michael! Even though his acting has to do with his son, I won't be ever able to forgive him for killing Ana and Libby... Also, he became such an egoistic asshole in my eyes! The way he talked to Hurley, WHILE there were digging Ana's and Libby's grave!!! Btw why Locke didn't go to the funeral?
I hear you. I'm so not liking Michael either. On the other hand, to play devil's advocate, I can kinda sympathize, especially after the last flashback scene where Miss Klugh promised that he and Walt could safely leave. What would you do if you were in his place? I know I would have tried everything I could and honestly, I don't know if I could have gone so far as murdering someone. I don't have a kid though so I don't know the kind of drive that would give you. I think Michael is more obsessed with keeping his child safe than the average parent because he couldn't be there for his son growing up. During the 3 minutes he got to see Walt, Walt told him they were doing tests on him and definitely eluded to the fact that they were hurting him. It's also the first time Walt said he 'I love you' to Michael as he was dragged out. Also, consider that these Others seem to have all the power over everyone. They may seem like simple people but they have outsmarted and outmaneuvered the survivors at every turn. They are also holding all the cards.
Yes, the way he talked to Hurley was very pushy and harsh but Michael was so desperate to get Hurley to go. He absolutely had to have the four people on that list go with him otherwise the Others would NOT give Walt back. Like Miss Klugh said, you have to bring these four, NOBODY else. If he failed to, then everything, including taking the lives of Ana Lucia and Libby, was for nothing.
I don't know why Locke didn't go to the funeral but he's got that look to him again, like he found his faith and/or purpose. I'm sure we'll see in the next episode where he wandered off to!
Haha, Eko is so great at speaking to someone (Michael here) without really making clear what exactly he is talking about. Most of the time he let his conversational partners back with an interrogation mark around their heads. xD
I agree! It's especially fascinating to watch Eko and Locke have a conversation.
It was actually funny, how they integrated scenes we've already seen in past episodes here. And above all the fact, how close the group really was to Michael at some point. o.O
I really love when they do that in the show; show us different angles of a scene. It's so neat to get a different perspective!
I don't really get why the hell that church building thingy is so important to Charlie...
I don't either! I guess it's because Charlie used to be pretty religious and now that he's fighting to not start using again, he needs something to fixate on as well as his faith to help him through it. I think it also gave him a purpose and he's always felt like nobody would let him have a purpose. Remember the whole helping with moving to the caves? Jack and everyone just kept telling him to go and relax, they got this and he finally blew up about it. He just wants to feel needed and like he's contributing in some way.
I liked how Locke observed Charlie throwing away the drugs in silence. :-)
Me, too! And Claire is starting to let him in again. Thankfully, he seems like he's getting better. He got a little crazy for awhile there.
Somehow I knew Sayid would find out about Micheal's plan, or better say, about what he had to do or at least was told to do...
I'm not surprised either! Sayid was an interrogator and Michael's been acting really weird. It's a good thing everyone else is so distracted with everything that's happened, though I did notice Kate shooting him a strange look and Jack did a little too, though I think he's passed it off as fatherly distress.
I hated, that Michael in the end got what he wanted... and this thought has nothing to do with Walt's safety.
But where would the fun be in them not falling into the trap?
Plus like I said, Miss Klugh made it clear that this was the ONLY way Michael would get his son back.
Alrighty, so on to the other stuff that I didn't touch on above.
It was sweet that Charlie gave Claire that vaccine and even tested it on himself first. Crazy! Still though, I wouldn't trust that stuff. Who knows exactly what it is and what it does. They keep talking about a sickness in the past but so far, I haven't noticed anything. I'd not use that. I'd hold onto it until maybe we started seeing signs of a sickness.
Speaking of Sayid finding out about Michael being compromised, I'm wondering if Eko knows also. He suddenly told this story to Michael about a boy taking the life of a dog in order to save his sister. He said that the boy didn't really have a choice and would be forgiven if he were truly sorry for what he had done. It's a strange story to all of a sudden tell but if Eko really did figure it out, I think even he would have had some major anger to get over first. He really had an emotional bond with Ana Lucia.
I think we now know that that girl is Alex, Danielle's daughter! Remember in Hunting Party when we saw it from the different angle, Mr. Friendly said, "Bring her out, Alex!" and we saw a guy bring Kate out so the writers fooled us into thinking we were wrong. But now, from this new angle, we see the real Alex talk that other guy into taking Kate out.
It didn't dawn on me until I read the Finding Lost book on this episode how strange it was that they took Michael's blood. They dress and act like they're primitive and their dwelling looks about the same so how do they have the technology to not only take blood, but test it? There is the Staff station so I assume they would have the technology needed there but still, it didn't seem like they were the kind of people who would have had a doctor or someone capable of doing blood work.
Miss Klugh's questions to Michael were interesting, especially the "has Walt ever been some place he shouldn't be?" as if she knew that he might have the capability of astroprojecting like he did to Shannon. How would these Others even know about that kind of stuff? Very interesting! Who exactly are these Others? Were they part of the Dharma Initiative mentioned in the orientation films? If so, why do they seem so different from the people we saw in the footage?
Speaking of the Others, why do they specifically want Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Hurley? What is it about those four? I just can't pinpoint what's special about them or something about those our that are in common.
Yes! The boat! Where'd it come from and if there's anyone on it, who?? And how many? Is it the Others playing a trick? The Others did have at least one boat that we saw.
Favorite scenes/quotes:Sawyer: You and Freckles -- before you found him you all were gone all night.
Jack: We were caught in a net.
Sawyer: What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Jack: It means we got caught in a net.
Sawyer: Is that what they're calling it these days?
~Later~
Sawyer: I screwed her.
Jack: What?
Sawyer: That's how she got my gun. Ana, she jumped me. [Jack looks puzzled] We got "caught in a net".
[Vincent drops a Virgin Mary statue at Charlie's feet]
Charlie: Are you kidding me?
Sawyer: [to Jack] You're about the closest thing I've got to a friend, Doc.
