Chapter 1-3
The room was dark and unwelcoming, a single beam of light shown on an altar. The sound of chanting could be heard from the darkness, becoming more and more intense. There was a body of a young girl laying on the stone slab, kicking and screaming as she pulled the ropes. She was begging to be released, “Roth, tu si!” Something was building inside her, her skin was starting to heat up and peel away. “come to us dark lord, oh ancient one.” The girl screamed one final ear-piercing scream and then she was still. The chanting stopped as a figure walked out of the darkness. The claw snaked out of the robes with a dagger in his claw and moved to the body. It cut the stomach open and reached into its cavity, pulling out it's inside and staring down into it. “The spell worked,” its voice was deep and booming when it spoke, echoing through the empty space. “The ancient one is coming, soon.”

Piper sat straight up in bed, sweat soaked her body. That was the fourth night she had that same dream and each time, it felt more and more real. The smell, the feel, the taste, it was sickening. It was six in the morning and Piper decided now was a good time to just get up, make breakfast for Phoebe and Paige and try to forget everything she had seen.
Heading downstairs she paused when she heard voices coming from the kitchen. Piper slowly walked in to see Phoebe and Paige already up, “what are you two doing up?” Both sisters were sitting at the kitchen table, drinking coffee and nibbling on some toast. Piper walked over and grabbed a piece from Phoebe’s plate.
“We couldn’t sleep, you?”
“The same, keep having this nightmare. A girl on an altar screaming and a demon talking about the ancient one.” She sat down next to Paige and sighed, both of them looking at each other and back to Piper. “What?”
“We’ve had the same nightmare.”
“For the last four nights?” Phoebe and Paige nodded. “Leo!”

Leo groaned as the jingle sounded in his head, he really didn’t want to get up. He pulled himself from the bed, the bed of the enemy. He couldn’t believe that he let himself get tricked into bed. Grabbing his pants, he pulled them on and started to look around for his shirt. “Where do you think you are going?” Leo found his shirt just as Cole’s voice rang out, “I’m not done with you yet.”
“The girls are calling, I have to go. Whitelighter duties come first.” He pulled on his shirt and took a step back from the bed.
“Sometimes you have to do things for you.” Cole stood, completely naked from the night’s previous activities.
“Not when you’re a whitelighter,” Before Cole could get his hands on him, he orbed out and into the kitchen of the charmed ones.
“LEO!” Piper jumped as Leo orbed in behind her.
“Enough with the screaming, Piper.”
“What took you so long?”
“I was sleeping, we whitelighters do that. What’s wrong?”
“Nightmares,” Paige smirked.
“You called me down for a nightmare?” He chuckled.
“This is serious.” Piper looked at Phoebe for help, before pouring herself some coffee.
“We’re all having it, not just Piper. The same nightmare over and over, it has to mean something. Right?”
“Tell me everything about the dream.”
“Nightmare, dreams are pleasant and full of things I want. Like chocolate, a promotion, and sex.” Phoebe smirked and took a large sip of her coffee, “Not daggers, death, and demons.” The girls explained all they could about the nightmare, Leo listening and giving his input.
“As usual, all I can do is talk with the elders, see if they know anything.”
“Thanks, Leo.” Piper could tell something was going on with Leo, he looked a bit distracted. “You okay?”
“Yeah, fine. You know me.”
“Yeah, that is why I’m not buying it. But if you say so,” Leo was gone before and orbing up to the elders.
As Leo thought, nothing turned up from the elders. It looks like the girls would have to figure this one out on their own. “They said they’ll keep looking.”
“Yeah, sure they will.” Piper found the elders useless, she didn’t know why she bothered. “Paige is researching at magic school. Phoebe is-” and at that moment Phoebe rushed by and headed for the door. “Phoebe, the book of shadows, nightmares, where are you going?”
“I got a deadline, if I don’t get this done, Elise is going to kill me. I’ll be on it as soon as I’m done, I promise. Love you, got to go!”
“Love you too,” she called after her, “guess we need to pay the bills with two incomes.”
“See, Brightside.” He kissed her cheek, “I’ll let you know if the elders find out anything. I got to go.” and he was gone in orbs of light.
It had been a long night and Leo found himself a P3, having a few drinks. He sat nursing his second beer when he felt an all too familiar presence. “Seat taken?”
“Go away, Cole.”
“Just saw you sitting here alone, figured you’d need someone to talk to?”
“Not going to happen, go bother someone else.”
“Whiskey,” He told the bartender with a wink. “I just stopped by for a quick drink and saw you sitting here all alone.”
“I know why you’re here, I am not putting in a good word for you. If you want Phoebe back, talk to her yourself.”
“I’ve moved on from Phoebe, I have no interest in her.” Cole waved his hand dismissively, “She is old news and she wants nothing more to do with me.”
“I wonder why,” Getting up, he walked off to help one of the bartenders who dropped a tray. While Leo was busy, Cole waved his hand over the drink with a devilish smile…
Later that night, Leo stumbled his way outside. When he hit the cold air it helped, but he still needed to lean against the building for support. He felt different, a strange overwhelming feeling and it wasn’t a nice feeling.
“Hey, let me help you.” Leo sighed, Cole, of course, it was Cole.
“Go away, I’m fine.”
“You don’t look fine, let me get you home. Make sure you orb to the right place,” He smiled and wrapped his arm around his waist. Phasing him into the room, he got him into bed and into his pajamas. “All tucked away, water and aspirin are by the bed.”
“Thanks, it’s strange. I didn’t know whitelighters could get drunk.”
“Strange, well I’ll leave you to it,” Cole smirked and left, part one of his plans was in effect.

Piper had let her job get in the way of everything in her life and she just couldn’t allow that anymore. She might be a charmed one but she needed a life outside of magic, demons, and death. After Prue, Piper became the older sister and that came with more responsibility. Phoebe took her role as the middle sister well and convinced her to give Paige a chance and she was glad she did. It was nice to have Paige around to show Phoebe just how tough it was to be an older sibling.
Tonight Piper was going out with her friends. Most of her friends had kids now, but every weekend they left the kids with the husband’s or a sitter and went out for some fun. “Phoebe,” Piper slipped on her shoes and headed for the door. “Phoebe, I know you can hear me,” she called out again.
“I have a Deadline, whatever it is will have to wait.” She called out from her bedroom.
“Like hell,” Piper headed down the hallway and to her room. “No, no deadline. P3, you promised.”
“I know, I know I did but I’m late and-”
“Five years,” Phoebe looked up and confused, “that is how long since I had a day just for me. So damn your deadline, because I deserve to have a night off once in a while. You promised so either get Paige to do it or you’re it. I mean it, I have this one night and I am going to take it before the next demon tries to attack.”
“You’re right, you deserve that I’m sorry. I’ll see if Paige can-”
“Sorry can’t, I got an interview,” Paige calls out from down the hallway
“So that settled, you need to be down there to make sure everything runs smoothly. It’s open mic night,” She smiled and handed Phoebe the keys.
Phoebe hated open mic night, it was rare to see people with talent. Piper did book one act, a local singer. Who Phoebe is looking forward seeing. Aria Woods, the talk of the town and people couldn’t get enough of her. She sat in the back office after all the business end was finished, she put the manager in charge from there and typed away on her laptop. She started to drift off, she had been so run down since the nightmares started. They were so vivid, it was like she was there. The knock on the door had her jump to attention, “Yeah.”
“Hey, your sister called again. She wants to know why you’re not answering the phone.”
“Tell her I am busy making sure the club opens on time.”
“So you want me to lie to my boss?”
“Yes, I just need to finish one more thing and I’m all yours.” The bartender smiled and closed the door. As promised she finished her work about a half an hour before the club opened. She would proofread it during a break and send it to off to be reviewed. “See all yours,” She grinned and got the open mic area ready.
“You Piper?” Phoebe spun around to see a woman with short dark hair and a dazzling smile.
“Phoebe, I’m her sister and you’re the special guest tonight?”
“Yes, Aria Woods, pleasure.” There was something about this woman, something Phoebe couldn’t put her finger on. She was practically tingling but she pushed it aside and flashed a toothy grin.
“Right this way,” she led them behind the stage area. “Everything Is set, if you need anything from our tech guy just let me or him know. I have a room for you to relax in before the show. Typical dressing room set up, or if you want you can hang in the area by the stage with the open mic singers.”
“I might pop over but I appreciate the private room, I like to warm up before I sing.”
“Great, I will leave you to it.” She didn’t want to bother her, so she left to finish getting things done.
Phoebe ended up working behind the bar, helping the bartender with the rush. When she talked with the customers most of them were here because of Aria. She was amazed at the turnout, she knew Piper would be happy she missed it. When the bar slowed down she went back to the office to finish her paper. She finished just as Aria was being announced, she headed out to watch from the doorway.
The first few bars of ‘It can’t be wrong’ by Frank Sinatra start to play.
Wrong
Would it be wrong to kiss?
Seeing I feel like this
Would it be wrong to try?
Phoebe froze, the air around her thick, heart racing. Something compelled her to the stage and she started to make her way through the crowd. Pulse quickening, breath heavy she pushed right to the front.
Wrong
Would it be wrong to stay?
Here in your arms this way
Under the starry sky
Phoebe stared up into those eyes, willing her to just look down and connect. She wasn’t the only one captivated, half of the club stopped in mid-conversation to listen to her. Finally, she looked down into Phoebe’s eyes, something building as she sang the next verse;
If it is wrong
Then why were you sent to me?
Why am I content to be?
With you forever
On the word forever, something shot through her and snapped Phoebe out of it. She stumbled backward and sprinted to the back room, closing the door and started to pace. “What on earth was that? Oh boy, what was that? Okay, Phoebe, this is new and confusing and it will all make sense when you calm down.” Closing her eyes she leaned against the wall and took several deep breaths. She never heard the door open, she only heard a low hum and her pulse started to quicken.
“You missed the end of the song.” The voice was In her head and she couldn’t shake it. “Let me finish, you’ll feel better.” She hummed the first few bars before the last verse and then continued to sing.
So, when I need you so much
And I have waited so long
It must be right
It can’t be wrong
At the last note, Phoebe turned to face the voice, seeing Aria standing there with a curious smile. “It’s never worked on a woman before, I’m intrigued.”
“Okay,” A small laugh escaped and she sat down on the chair to catch her breath, “what’s going on?”
“I wish I knew, it’s odd. I feel connected and that has never happened before. Not even with a man and I’ve seduced thousands,” Aria moved forward and Phoebe felt her heart beginning to race.
“No no no, you stay right over there.” Phoebe pointed near the door and backed up. “I said over there,” but Aria didn’t listen, she closed the distance. Phoebe’s breath caught in her throat, It happened every time Aria got near her. Her hand brushing across Phoebe’s cheek, it made her head swimming and her legs weak. “W-who are you?”
“You knew who I was the moment you heard me. Say It, don’t be afraid.” Aria whispered in her ear.
“Siren.” Aria’s lips were close to Phoebe’s now, her body pressed as close as it could to the wall behind her.
”Relax,” Aria breathed, “I only kill men and that is rare. Unlike my kind, I don’t follow my instincts often. I find leaving a trail messy, don’t you agree?” Phoebe found her head nodding, not even thinking. “Besides that, I don’t think I could kill you if I wanted too. You have power, deep, rooted, I know who you are without question. The power of three, I knew it as soon as I saw the sign out front. Subtle,” She chuckled.
“Let me go so we can figure this out, I can’t think when you’re so close.” Phoebe hoped that Aria was just as curious and would move back without question.
“Alright,” Phoebe could breath when she backed off, she could feel Aria’s hold break. “Better?” She was finally able to take a breath in without feeling weak.
“Yes, no more using your powers on me, or I call my sisters.”
“Maybe you should because I don’t think I could stop myself from reeling you in. it is in my nature.” Aria said playfully.
“Stop it.” Phoebe sighed and sat on the other side of the room.
“I’m not doing anything, I’m sitting here. You’re feeling what is left over, your body is aching for me and will for a couple days. Sorry,” Aria smiled.
“Great, why can’t I meet a nice human? Always a demon or a supernatural being of some kind, I’m really starting to think my family is cursed.”
*~*~*~*
Earlier that morning, Leo woke from his night of drinking. He felt like death but luckily next to the bed were some aspirin and water. He knew they were from Cole. He couldn’t deny he needed them, but before he could even take them he noticed he wasn’t alone. Slowly he pulled back the covers to reveal Cole, “What are you doing here?” Cole was already awake, smiling.
“Don’t you remember you called me?” Cole reached out, running his hand along Leo’s bare chest. “I tucked you in and left, an hour later you called out to me and I came back.”
Leo slowly sat up and took the aspirin and water left for him. “I think I would have remembered,” He was sure this was some kind of trick, why would he call for Cole?
“You keep denying what we have, it’s not good for you. You should be honest with your feelings.”
“This coming from a demon,” Leo pulled away, “this won’t work, I’m a whitelighter and you’re a demon. It’s against the rules,” Leo realized he was naked, “did you take advantage of me in my drunk state?”
“More like you ripped my clothes off, I got the marks to prove it.” Cole smirked, “and when did you ever care about rules. Come on, give me a chance. Sure I’m a demon but I’m not like I use to be. I’m a changed man, you know that.”
“I’m not sure and I have to go, duty calls.”
“I’m going to prove to you that I changed, Leo.”
“Right, leave so I can get ready for the day.” Cole nodded and grabbed his clothes, shimmering home.
The rest of the morning was uneventful, but luckily not many of his charges needed him today. Only one was in any serious danger, he couldn’t sense the demon but maybe it was a darklighter? He got his charge to safety, “If it comes back, call me again and I’ll come.”
“Thanks so much, Leo, I don’t know what I would do without you.” Sharon was a future whitelighter, Leo was sent to protect her from those willing to end her life. “Are you sure I can’t do anything for you?”
“The only thing I want is for you to be safe. Are you going to be okay?” He placed a hand on her shoulder.
“I’ll be okay, I promise.” Leo nodded and orbed out and headed off to check on Piper. He wanted to see if any more nightmares surfaced.
“Piper?” He started to walk around the downstairs, peering into the room. He smiled when he saw Phoebe sitting in the sunroom. She had her headphones on and she was typing away “Phoebe,” he waved and she caught sight of him and smiled.
“Hey, you look terrible. Are you getting the nightmares too?” She looked concerned but he just smiled and shook his head.
“No, just a long night. I came to see if you had anything new for me, anything else I should tell the elders?”
“No, same dream. I can’t even think straight, It’s affecting my job, are you sure they don’t know anything else?”
“I’ll try again, wanted to check in with Piper and Paige first.”
“Alright, see you later and try and get some rest too. We all can’t be sleep deprived,” She smirked as Leo orbed off.
He landed right outside of Piper’s room, knocking. He never just orbed into the girl’s personal space anymore… not after last time. When the door opened he smiled, “Hey Leo,” She smiled big and gave him a hug.
“Hi, just wanted to check in and see if anything new came up.”
“No, same dream. Paige said the same thing to me this morning, just do what you can and get the elders butt in gear. We’re at a crossroads here,”
“I’ll go check now, just hang in there.”
“Leo, are you okay? You look a bit run down, I didn’t know angels could get run down,” she smirked and leaned against the door frame.
“Yeah, just a long night and I didn’t either. I’ll be fine an-” Leo heard the jingle and smirked. “Elders are calling, maybe they found something. I’ll let you know,” and he orbed out.
Cole sat at his desk, flipping through some papers. A client sat on the other end going on and on about something. “Mr. Turner, are you listening?” The man on the other end looked annoyed with him.
“I know all about your case. I assure you we won’t lose. So rest easy, Mr. Jacobis.” When he finally got his client out of his office he tried to sense where Leo was but couldn’t find him. He figured he was somewhere he couldn’t follow. He wondered how long it would take to break Leo down, break him down until he got him right where he wanted him.
“You allow yourself to be distracted by the whitelighter and our plans will never come to fruition.”
“I didn’t summon you, Seer.” The seer appeared, short, beautiful braided black hair and a scowl on her face. “Go before someone sees you.”
“Very well, but the window is closing. If you do not continue down the path I foretold, the window will close and everything will be for not. Remember the mission,” and she was gone as quickly as she came.
Paige actually didn’t have a job interview, she had a date and no way was she going to work. This was her first date in months and she wasn’t going to bail. Knowing her sister she would have been forced to do P3 if she told them it was a date. Halfway through the date she wished she had chosen P3, this guy was boring and all he talked about was himself and his job. She didn’t even wait for the entree, she just dropped a ten on the table. “You know what this isn’t working,” She left him dumbfounded and never looked back. She was having the worst luck with guys and she decided it was time to call a timeout. she was going to focus on her magic and nothing else.
Paige orbed into her room and hid, keeping out of sight until Phoebe left for the club. She stayed hidden for a couple hours until she heard the door downstairs close. She watched Phoebe get into her car and drive off and she now had full reign of the house. For the few hours she hid away, she orbed the book into her room and tried to find anything on an ancient one. Nothing, she couldn’t find anything about it. “He has to be somewhere,” she took the book downstairs and into the kitchen, making some food while she looked it over. She was tempted to take a nap while the sun was up, but she didn’t want to risk it. She was too freaked out from last night’s nightmare and she was wired from the coffee she had this morning.
After making herself some lunch, she decided to try her hand at some potion making. Standard demon potions were running a bit low, plus, this was her chance to master her craft a bit more. She was grateful that Piper kept on her about potions, she loved it a lot more than she thought she would. She mastered it quickly, once she took it seriously.
When Leo orbed out of nowhere, she jumped and orbed out for a second. “Leo!”
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you.” He looked around at the potion mess a bit concerned. “Did you find something?”
“No, just making some potions, stocking up. I have a feeling we're going to need them soon. So, making a whole bunch of standard ones and some with a bit more kick to them.” She smirked and held up a deep red vial. “This one is a little bit of everything. Did you find anything?”
“No, the elders are still looking, they don’t know anything about this nightmare you’re having.” Leo sighed, “They are a bit concerned, a new evil, a cryptic message.”
“Well whatever comes our way, we’ll be ready for it. We’re the charmed ones, right?” Paige smirked.
“If anyone can defeat this thing, you girls can.” Leo heard Sharon’s call and instantly become concerned, “I have to go, one of my charges are in trouble.”
Leo orbed and appeared in Sharon’s living room. As soon as he got there he saw the demon tossing energy balls. He was huge, deep black skin with blue markings all over his body. “Hey!” He knocked into the demon, distracting him long enough to grab Sharon and get her out of there. He appeared back at the manor and checked over Sharon to make sure she was okay. “You okay?”
“Yeah, he came out of nowhere. I can’t keep doing this, I can’t run for the rest of my life.”
“You won’t have too, you’re going to be safe here.” Leo sighed, “Paige,” A few seconds later she came around the corner, smiling. She paused mid-step when she saw the girl, something was familiar but she brushed it off.
“Who’s this?”
“Sharon and we have a demon, get some potions ready. In case he follows,” Paige nodded and grabbed a couple vials from the kitchen and returned. “I don’t know how strong this demon is, I don’t know if those will work. We might need the power of three,”
“One way to find out, if it doesn’t work we run and call for Piper and Phoebe. Until then, we’ll take care of it. Don’t worry, we won’t let anything happen to you.” Paige smiled, hoping to give her a bit of comfort.
Leo got Sharon some water and sat her down as they waited for the demon, but he never came. “Maybe he’s not coming?” Sharon wondered why but she wasn’t grateful.
“Either way, until it is safe you shouldn’t go home. Leo, think the elders will let her stay up there until I get a hold of Phoebe and Piper? Once they get home we can orb to Sharon’s place and see if the demon left something behind to scry with?”
“Guess we’ll find out,” Leo smiled and held onto Sharon’s hand, “Okay, hold on tight.”
Paige tried to call Phoebe but she didn’t answer her phone. When she called Piper she sighed when she heard the annoyance in her voice. “Does this call have anything to do with our nightmare?”
“No, but we got a demon, it’s after one of Leo’s charges. Leo said he looked powerful and we might need the power of three for this. I can’t get a hold of Phoebe, where are you and I can come get you. We need to go to her house and see if he is there. I looked in the book and didn’t see him anywhere, so we might be playing this one by ear.”
“Just one night, why can’t I have one night. Just meet me at P3,” and Piper hung up the phone.
